LOKI OF ASGARD WAX FIGURE

Loki, God of Mischief, is teleporting straight to Madame Tussauds New York in Times Square after an official debut at New York Comic Con. The Loki figure is inspired by his character from the quintessential ‘Battle of New York’ sequence featured in Marvel Studios’ The Avengers (2012), making New York City the perfect home for The God of Mischief. To celebrate the arrival, Madame Tussauds placed the Loki figure in front of Grand Central Terminal, an iconic view immediately recognizable by Marvel fans as the site of the battle and one of the most historic New York City landmarks. The notorious Asgardian trickster is sporting his classic headpiece, glowing scepter and green and gold cloak. No, this Loki is not shape-shifting, but strikingly based on the likeness of English actor Tom Hiddleston.

“We’re so excited to introduce everybody’s favorite villain, Loki, into the Hall of Heroes,” said Madame Tussauds New York Marketing Executive Ben Shapiro. “The Loki figure will live around the corner – but never in the shadow – of his brother and frequent foe Thor. We know fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be beyond thrilled to encounter the mischievous Prince of Asgard at Madame Tussauds New York.”

BLOOD MANOR IS BACK

One third of all Americans say autumn is their favorite time of year. And why is that? It’s not the pumpkin spice lattes! We all know the real reason: Halloween! Yes, it’s time to visit Blood Manor, New York City’s premiere haunted attraction.

This year, Blood Manor has even more scares and thrills for the truly die-hard Halloween fan. Don’t miss these haunted halls with old favorites like “The Crypt” (where no one rests in peace) and all-new frights like Maggot Invasion, Hannibal’s Hell, and Killer Clowns (oh, yes, we went there!). 75% of this year’s show is new or refreshed.

One new feature is a haunted battlefield, a nod to the history of Blood Manor’s location at 359 Broadway. In the late 19th century, the building housed the studio of Matthew Brady, the first “celebrity photographer” known for his daring Civil War photos and pictures of famous people. In fact, the portrait of Abraham Lincoln on the $5 bill was shot right in this studio.

LIFE & TRIALS OF RUTH BADER GINSBURG

BLACKMORE’S NIGHT AT PATCHOGUE

The year is 1996. The setting: a snowy winter in Massachusetts. Inside a lodge, nestled around a fireplace, a guitarist plays some beautiful acoustic tunes, and a singer with an ethereal voice joins in. They play throughout the night, creating songs of myths and fantasy inspired by nature. All of this is occurring while the guitarist, none other than famed stringsmith Ritchie Blackmore, is working with his band Rainbow to record their last CD Stranger In Us All.

Here, in this moment miles away from it all, Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night are using their secluded time around the fire in the middle of winter to create, some beautiful music, a new genre, inspired by many melodies of the Renaissance period, and Blackmoreized into contemporary music. They call it Renaissance/Folk/Rock. This is the sound of

THE BLUES PROJECT AT SUFFOLK THEATER

The Blues Project was formed in Greenwich Village in the mid-’60s by guitarist Danny Kalb (who had played sessions for various Elektra folk and folk-rock albums), Steve Katz (a guitarist with Elektra’s Even Dozen Jug Band), flutist/ bassist Andy Kulberg, drummer Roy Blumenfeld, and singer Tommy Flanders. Al Kooper, in his early twenties a seasoned vet of rock sessions, joined after sitting in on the band’s Columbia Records audition, although they ended up signing to Verve, an MGM subsidiary.

The eclectic résumés of the musicians, who came from folk, jazz, blues, and rock backgrounds, was reflected in their choice of material. Blues by Muddy Waters and Chuck Berry tunes ran alongside covers of contemporary folk-rock songs by Eric Anderson and Patrick Sky, as well as the group’s own originals.

The Blues Project is alive and well, with Katz and Blumenfeld leading a powerful new lineup that also includes three young and talented members: Chris Morrison on lead guitar, Scott Petito on bass, and Ken Clark on keyboards and vocals. Opening October 15th Long Island’s own Chris Milo.

They will be performing at the Suffolk Theater, 118 E. Main St. Riverhead on Friday October 28th. Tickets are $45-55 Call 631-727-4343.

AVENUE PROFILE: TOM PEKAR

When Tom Pekar was a little boy at Christmas, he didn’t want the usual bikes or trains. He wanted musical instruments, and hoped Santa would hear his requests.

He must have done something right, because today, 40 years in the business, Tom juggles more balls than a circus performer. He is in three bands, E3, Yankee Rebel and The Nacho Brothers, plus sitting in with many groups. He is the main booker at the popular Red River Inn in Yaphank and runs open jams there along with a Tuesday open jam with Bobby Rondinelli at Katies in Smithtown.

What drives this man to super perform? Simple, an incredible love of music.

Tom has been in bands since the 80’s, including The Fury. With degrees in music, he teaches advanced guitar, and plays out an incredible 25+ gigs in thirty days. He recently did 60 shows in 92 days.

Each of his bands is unique...E3 is a high powered rock band, Yankee Rebel is an in your face Country band with great players, and he does the Nacho Brothers with Pete Colleta, an eclectic mix of music.

Tom says, “Music is almost spiritual. And what I love is the crowds. You make hundreds of friends and there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing familiar faces in the crowd at a gig.”

For those who question whether there is a music scene on Long Island, the answer is a resounding YES. You just have to know where to look, and any of Tom’s gigs would be a great starting point.

The Mets’ September collapse, and there is no subtle way of saying it any other way, depressed their fan base even though the team had clinched a playoff berth. The guys from Flushing went 2-6 against second division dregs at the Cubs, Nationals, and Marlins in what was supposed to be the soft part of the 2022 schedule. Even worse, the Mets’ 1-2 starting punch of Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer was unexceptional when it counted the most, in Atlanta when the Braves swept them. Mets manager Buck Showalter, who appeared to be a lock for 2022 National League Manager of the Year before Labor Day, may now have award voters rethinking their position.

The Mets did get some boosts from unexpected places last month, however noted Mets fan Jimmy Kimmel had his sidekick, Guillermo Rodriguez, run down the aisles of the Brooklyn Academy of Music wearing a Mets uniform, on the last day of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” being taped there. BOWLING

IT’S TOURNAMENT TIME:

As we go to press, the 2022/2023 bowling league season season is underway – which means that tournaments around Long Island are revving up as well. If you’re interested in getting involved in weekend tourneys, there’s something for everyone – seniors, youth bowlers, teams, duos, trios, you name it. Most tournaments offer cash prizes for finalists, as well as trophies, brackets, and other attractions. Here’s a look at some of the upcoming events about to take place throughout the region.

THE LI USBC TOURNAMENTS:

As always, the Long Island branch of the United States Bowling Congress – better known as the USBC, the national governing body for bowling in the United States – is readying its tournament se ries. The organization is dedicated to serving sanc tioned league bowlers and tournament players bet ter than ever before this season.

Here is the official list of tournament events sanc tioned by the LIUSBC this season.

• AMF Garden City Bowl: Classified Sweeper, October 16

• Coram Country Lanes: Senior Singles Handicap (50-plus), October 22

• Maple Lanes RVC: Senior Singles Handicap (50-plus), date to be determined

• Herrill Lanes (New Hyde Park): Senior Masters, December 3

• Herrill Lanes (New Hyde Park): 600/700 Club, January 28 and 29, 2023

Plainview native, Maxwell Jacob “MJF” Friedman sported a Tom Seaver jersey crooning “Meet the Mets” very much on-key to troll Philadelphia Phillies fans at a taping of an AEW card held on the campus of Temple University.

The previous week, AEW made a triumphant return to Arthur Ashe Stadium at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows for its “Grand Slam” event. MJF was in his usual aplomb with the microphone as he enjoyed insulting his latest foil, Yuta Wheeler, in a manner which would have made the late Don Rickles proud.

MJF’s female heel counterpart is Britt Baker, DMD who is an Orlando dentist in real life. I spoke with her the week before “Grand Slam.” Although she plays a wrestling villain, she refuses to use dentistry as a weapon to use on opponents the way Sir Laurence Olivier did in the 1976 Dustin Hoffman movie, “Marathon Man.” “AEW fans would know that would not ring true for me.” Dr. Baker urged everyone to regularly floss their teeth. “More people lose their teeth from gum disease than from cavities,” she warned. She did admit she does not always practice what she preaches. “I do not use a mouthguard in the ring, and I really should. I have chipped some teeth during matches.”

Professional wrestling historian, and Bayside native, Keith Elliot Greenberg, has just authored a book titled “Follow the Buzzards” (ECW Press), about how the various professional wrestling promotions, from the little independents to the behemoths of sports entertainment as the WWE and AEW, navigated the waters of the COVID-19 pandemic and political upheaval in the United States. While “Follow the Buzzards” is geared towards wrestling fans, this is as good a book about how a business has been affected by recent events as any I have seen.

• Herrill Lanes (New Hyde Park): 2023 Long Island Masters, February 18 and 19, 2023

• Port Jeff Bowl: Mixed Doubles Over And Under, March 12, 2023

• AMF Centerreach Lanes: Annual Champion ships, May 6 and 7, 2023

In our next issue, we’ll take a look at this season’s LIUSBC youth tournament schedule. For more information on how to enter these tournaments and all the info you need, log on to lisusbc.com, or find Long Island USBC on Facebook.

throughout Long Island. Grab one of the new, colorful flyers at most LI bowling centers and be prepared to participate in a busy LIGBT season.

THIS ISN’T JUST SODA & CHIPS: STRIKES & SPARES EXCITES

One of the nice things about indie bowling centers is that they try harder – and the newly renamed Strikes & Spares Cafe at Herrill Lanes is proof of that. The center’s new management has taken a humdrum snack bar and turned it into a place to enjoy actual restaurant quality food. We really mean this: The food at Strikes & Spares is worthy of a visit even if you aren’t going to bowl.

LIGBT – NEW FORMATS, NEW THRILLS:

The fifteenth season of the LIGBT (Long Island Generations Bowling Tour) will easily be its biggest ever – with new monthly series taking place, top payoffs ranging from $1,000 to $4,000, and other attraction and prizes that assure attendance will hit new participation records this season. We’d suggest making plans early; log on to ligbtour.com, or call (702) 530-0708 for complete information.

New for this year is the monthly sports shot series on selected Sundays at Herrill Lanes in New Hyde Park; a monthly house shot series, also on selected Sundays at AMF East Meadow Lanes; and 14 other tournaments taking place at top bowling centers

Yes, there’s burgers and hot dogs and fries – but they’re far better than traditional “bowling alley” fare. The expanded menu includes items such as homemade cookies (!), steak burgers and sliders (our favorite), chicken wings, Icee frozen drinks, and more new items than we have room to list here. Herrill’s bar area also has expanded drink offerings, with innovative new selections and clever bowling-based drink names.

The difference in the food service in this center is like night and day – we’re hooked, and we’ll bet you will be after your first visit.

College business courses should make this required reading for students.

In combat sports of another stripe, professional kickboxing, which was a mainstay of 1970s broadcast television (I remember watching it on ABC’s “Wide World of Sports” back in the day) has been revived with the advent of a new kickboxing federation, PKA Worldwide. It just signed its first fighter, Queens native Julio Cesar Carlos, who has had a successful career as a chef at numer ous upscale Manhat tan restaurants.

I recently spoke with sportswriter Chris Altruda who covers the sports wagering industry for the digital publication, Sportshandle.com. Altruda told me New York State coffers should easily exceed the $500 million in tax revenue, which former governor Andrew Cuomo promised for 2022, which is the first year in which betting on sports teams has been legal in the Empire State.

Altruda added while the National Football League is the big kahuna when it comes to wagering, some smaller sports have become favorites of those who use gambling apps on their smartphones. “Tennis has done very well because bettors can wager on the next point, game, set, or match. In Colorado, many folks bet on table tennis matches, also known as ping-pong, being played overseas.”

The New York Jets have had serious problems at the offensive tackle for

years which were exacerbated by draft ing the perennially injured Mekhi Becton for the University of Alabama two years ago. Becton is out for the entire 2022 sea son, and his fellow tackles George Fant, Duane Brown, and Max Mitchell are all on the injured list as well. All of which made news of the passing earlier this month of one of the best offensive blockers in Jets history, Marvin Powell, at the age of 67 all that much more poignant. Powell was a College Football Hall of Fame inductee because of his spectacular play at the University of Southern California which captured the attention of Jets scouts. The Jets drafted him in the first round of the

1977 NFL Draft. He remains one of their few first-round draft picks who was not a bust.

Fox Sports last week debuted its documentary about one of its air personalities, Hall of Fame inductee David Ortiz, simply called “David Ortiz: Legend of the Fall.” On November 8, HBO Sports will present its documentary on arguably the best player in baseball history titled “Say Hey, Willie Mays!” The Mets retired Mays’s #24 during their Old-Timers” Day ceremony in late August.

JAZZ & BLUES

CHARLY REYNOLDS “TONIGHT IN TEXAS”

Rising country star Charly Reyn olds released her single “Tonight In Texas,” along with the visualizer. Broken hearted never sounded so upbeat in the tune written by Reyn olds, Nicole Croteau and Matthew Morrisey. A blend of authentic coun try and today’s modern sensibili ties, “Tonight In Texas” confidently makes a case for Charly Reynolds as an artist in the mainstream mix.

Built on a glitter-tinged, clip-along beat, the single resonates with a younger generation of female coun try fans while feeling just as com fortable to fans who grew up on 90’s country. Reynolds’ sound bridges that gap the same way Martina McBride did before her. “Tonight In Texas” has already garnered early support from Spotify and YouTube. The single is the follow-up to Reyn olds’ catchy upbeat summer anthem “Rodeo.”

In conjunction with the new single, Reynolds has teamed up with Texas leather com pany Callahan LeatherPress for custom “Tonight In Texas” air flairs. The circular leather air flairs feature a pressed “Tonight In Texas” logo and comes in two scents including leather and baja cactus.

PARTON & CLARKSON REIMAGINED “9 TO 5” DUET International icon Dolly Parton and global superstar Kelly Clarkson collab orate on a compellingly inspired duet version of “9 to 5,” arriving via SMACK Songs/Atlantic Records ahead of the highly anticipated Still Working 9 to 5 documentary. The GRAMMY Award-win ning artists teamed up with the film’s ex ecutive producer Shane McAnally, Sasha Sloan & King Henry to reimagine the classic song into a melancholic yet inspi rational anthem over 40 years after the original’s release as the fight for work place equality persists.

Written and recorded by Dolly Parton and produced by Gregg Berry, the original “9 to 5” debuted in 1980 in tandem with the film of the same name starring Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. The song went on to receive an Academy Award nomination for Original Song and four GRAMMY Award nominations – winning two of the latter for Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance.

GIGI ROWE DEBUT ALBUM

Singer-songwriter GIGI ROWE has accomplished a lot in her career – securing song placements on TV and in video games, signing a major label record deal, authoring an illustrated children’s book, and creating a scripted kids audiobook podcast - but the release of her debut album is something she’s been preparing for quite some time.

Laura is out now on all digital platforms: https:// ffm.to/gigirowe_laura

From breathtaking ballads to pop-rock anthems, Laura, co-written and co-produced with PJ Bianco (Jonas Brothers, Bonnie McKee, A R I Z O N A, Kygo), reveals a voice that is all at once unique and familiar. In the past few months, Gigi teased the fulllength through a series of singles: “You Me and the Stars,” “Borrowed Time,” “Running from the Grave,” “Lonely Together,” “Color Outside the Lines,” and most recently “When The Time Comes.

FLORENCE DORE HIGHWAYS & ROCKETSHIPS

North Carolina–based Americana singer Florence Dore announced new fall tour dates in support of her recently released album Highways & Rocketships out on Propeller Sound Recordings. Dore’s backing band for the tour will feature the rhythm section of the legendary dB’s—Will Rigby on drums (also a member of Steve Earle and the Dukes for 15 years) and Gene Holder on bass—as well as Son Volt guitarist Mark Spencer. Dore’s forthcoming book The Ink in the Grooves: Conversations on Literature and Rock ’n’ Roll will be released October 15. Highways & Rocketships, Dore’s first solo album in 21 years, hits the sweet spot between classic rock, Americana and 1980s-vintage college radio. The hooks, ambience and arrangements are impeccable, evoking both modern-day pop sense and vintage blue-eyed soul and featuring contributions from some of leading lights of the past four decades of American indie-rock.

Florence’s tour is part rock, part talk and features straight-ahead rock shows as well as public talks about why rock matters and readings from her new book. Catch Florence and her tour Wednesday December 7th at Rockwood Music Hall Stage

HOUSEWIFE YOU’LL BE FORGIVEN EP

Toronto-duo House wife announced the release of You’ll Be Forgiven, their new five-song collection available via Hazel Street Records/The Orchard. Comprised of queer singer-song writers Brighid Fry (she/they) and Pas

cale Padilla (they/she), Housewife are continually growing and evolving as artists, and today debut their latest single ‘You’re Not the Worst’, co-written with Joe Memmel (COIN) and Gabe Simon (Dua Lipa, Lana Del Rey, COIN, mxmtoon) which they say is “one of the more direct and honest songs we’ve written.”

You’ll Be Forgiven represents a more experienced and sonically sophisticated iteration of the band. The album includes additional co-writes with Derek Hoff man and RALPH (I’m Spent), Hank Compton and Savannah Conley (Patrick Bateman) and Jackson Phillips of Day Wave (Bones, God Like You), which helped the burgeoning duo refine their voices and sound. The new music follows their 2017 self-titled debut EP and their follow-up 2020 EP.

BRIT TAYLOR’S “CABIN IN THE WOODS”

Country artist Brit Taylor’s new single, “Cabin in the Woods,” and video premiered on Wide Open Country and is available everywhere now.

Produced by Grammy winners Sturgill Simpson and David “Fergie” Ferguson, the not-quitebluegrass and somewhere-left-of-country-center song is an invitation to join Taylor on a drive back to her East Kentucky roots. It’s a foot-stompin’, hillbilly revival about loving the simple things in life and having friends along for the ride.

Released by Taylor’s Cut a Shine Records in collaboration with Thirty Tigers, “Cabin in the Woods” is an upbeat tune with a healthy dose of swagger. The mountain fiddle, twangy banjo, funky organ, slinky bass and drum groove take the listener back to better times while also transporting them to a far-out future on some front porch of a cabin where everyone gets along and only drinks the good stuff.

“Cabin”, written by Taylor and award-winning hit songwriter Jason White (Tim McGraw, Red Top Rag, Carrie Underwood, Choctaw County Affair), reflects a progression of Taylor’s life and music and is an introduction to the stand-your-ground, know-your-worth Brit Taylor of today. Following her journey to self-awareness in Real Me, “Cabin” reflects the person she found – and likes.

JENNIFER HARTWICK’S SOMETHING IN THE WATER

Vocalist, trumpeter and composer Jenni fer Hartswick has re leased her new album, Something in the Water, available via Christian McBride’s Mack Avenue Music Group imprint, Brother Mister Produc tions. Hartswick re leased a series of singles in advance of the album, along with a music video for “Only Time Will Tell.” She followed this with the New Orleans-influenced “By the River”which showcases her skill with brass arrangements as well as her commanding vocals.

Reprising her studio collaboration with renowned bassist and dear friend McBride, the singer and trumpeter interprets nine new tracks comprised of original repertoire and fresh arrangements of famil iar songs alongside her core ensemble and fea tured guests. Co-written with guitarist and album producer Nick Cassarino, Something in the Water presents a tender portrait of the human condition, brimming with humor and vulnerability.

Recorded at Sound Emporium alongside engi neer Joe Costa, and mixed and mastered by Greg Magers and Dan Shike, respectively, Something in the Water came to life in Nashville.

MEGHAN TRAINOR NEW ALBUM

GRAMMY Award-winning, star Meghan Trainor has released her new track “Don’t I Make It Look Easy.” Its anthemic energy resonates for many, especially mothers, who juggle so many things and yet make it look so easy. Lyrically it resembles a mission statement as Trainor sings, ““Don’t I make it look easy baby, when I do what I do? I’m fooling you!”

Earlier this summer, Meghan announced her fourth full-length album, Takin’ It Back, arriving October 21st, 2022 via Epic Records. This time around, she made a conscious decision to hark back to the signature sound she introduced on her 2015 full-length debut, TITLE, and bring it forward to today.

To bring the record to life, she worked closely alongside a “core squad” of Gian Stone, Federico Vindver, Sean Douglas, and little brother Justin Trainor out of her own home studio. Musically, she integrates doo-wop and classic harmonies into one anthem after another taking you through her journey into marriage, motherhood, and achieving a new level of confidence.

emotive sensibility of the songs’ lyrics appealed to him, the low-register singing suited Dan’s range, and playing this music fulfilled Dan’s lifelong passion for country. After visiting Music City consistently for 6 years, he found his impulses were spot on:

Dan has previously released 5 country singles which he tracked and recorded down in Nashville. His song “The Road” is an upbeat summer song with catchy hooks and country feels. To date, the song has amassed 500k streams on YouTube as well as 100k streams on Spotify.

Dan has recently finished up 5 new songs with Nashville producer Jimmy Ritchey (Jake Owen, Sam Hunt, Mark Chesnut, Joe Nichols). The record also includes performance credits from some monster A-list musicians such as Danny Rader (Keith Urban, Kenny Cheney), Shannon Forrest (Toto), Craig Young (Colbie Calliet), Charlie Judge and Sol Philcox. He recently opened for National act Rodney Atkins at Mulcahy’s.

Before entering the world of country, Dan had also played over 1000 shows, opening for diversely esteemed artists such as Berlin, Days of The New, The Tubes, and the New York Dolls. Dan’s songs have also recently been placed on the TV series The Young and the Restless.

KATY REA:THE URGE THAT SAVES YOU

Katy Rea’s debut album, The Urge That Saves You was recorded entirely live. The empath rock, hook-filled record provides plenty to cling to all while splitting off into cinematic, dark psychedelia. The seamless shifts transpire masterfully, a unique mark of Rea’s talents. Her lead vocal is intense, melodic, and endlessly dynamic. This coupled with the touching restraint of the talented musicians joining her who’ve played with the likes of Angel Olsen, Fleet Foxes, Widowspeak, and more makes for a timeless collection of what Rea calls “premonitions, prayers, and warnings.”

The record’s tracks reflect her life’s journey, but it isn’t always obvious. Rea prefers to use characters and metaphors to tell her stories.

The final track and lead single, “We Come Back,” brings the album home with an acceptance of past selves and a promise to ultimately come back as someone new to love. The vocals rise to a point of exaltation, the background brimming with what sounds like the leaving of ghosts. The drums end on a point of triumph with Rea’s voice wise with the tone of having made peace. “We Come Back”, is the heart of the album.

Once ready, Rea and her band recorded the whole record live out of Figure 8 Studios by Prospect Park in Brooklyn, including the main vocals, all in one go.

CRYSTAL ROSE “WORKING ON MYSELF”

Brooklyn’s Crystal Rose has released her R&B driven inner and outer conversation with the self, “Working on Myself,” that has received comparisons to Solange, Kali Uchis and Lana Del Rey. This song follows “Thought I’d Say”, the debut from her forthcoming album Anew due out December 2nd. For Crystal Rose, who is a first-generation American, she wanted to write a song emphasizing the importance of connecting to your roots, while conversing with and walking through generational trauma, that for many may become a roadblock for pursuing dreams and desires.

Singing and making music is really a do-or-die thing for Crystal Rose. To communicate through music, through singing, is what she has known she was supposed to be doing from a young age. She grew up singing with her mom in Filipino karaoke bars and in the church and loved it. It was here that her mom developed her stage name “Miss Christy”, and her ability to sing all of the classic country songs sung by Patsy Cline and similar old-time singers. Going to church with her mom, you will hear her above everyone else in the rows around you-Crystal Rose guarantees it- it’s a complete cathartic release for hermusic is clearly in her blood.

WHEELS & DEALS NOV 19 AT 8PM DECEMBER 17-23, 2022

Welcome back to your favorite part of every Good Times issue, TechnoBeat. NYC has some heavy hitting shows coming through I can bet my paycheck you don’t wanna miss. Avant Gardner is coming in heavy with some great shows in the next few weeks. The one near and dearest to my heart is the Wakaan Takeover on October 21. Headlined by Liquid Stranger, this is gonna be a night of wild and fun bass music. Joining Liquid Stranger on this stop is Jantsen going back to back with Tvboo, Buku back to back G-Rex, Shlump, Ravenscoon, Veil, and Tape B. I mean, come on. It’s not even fair how stack this lineup is and I’m jealous I won’t be there so I’m asking each and every one of you to go extra hard for me. After seeing a lot of these artists recently at Wakaan Festival, I am solidly hooked on their sound and energy. The creativity in the experimental bass scene is unparalleled and a force to be reckoned with.

You can follow that up the next night at the same place to get some of those house vibes with Sonny Fodera bringing the freshest of bops to your ears. From hard hitting bangers to straight addicting vocals, Sonny spans the face of house music bringing a little something to the stage for everyone. Whether you’re new to the scene or a diehard house head, make sure you take some time out of your day to check this man out.

On November 3 and 4, French producer and musician FKJ will be bringing his super unique style and vibes to Avant Gardner. FKJ is a multiinstrumentalist who plays drums, bass, guitar, saxophone, piano, and sings. His live performances are out of this world and he often improvs songs on the spot and is always building all of the tracks from the ground up right in front of you. He is one of the most talented musicians I’ve ever seen and you’ll be equally as addicted once you see this show.

On November 6, we have the Don himself making a stop at Somewhere Nowhere NYC: Malaa. One of the most iconic house producers to exist, Malaa has been making waves for years. And there’s so much more to be said about him, including his most recent album release. So let’s dive into that.

Who is Malaa you ask? It’s a question we’ve all been asking ourselves for what feels like an eternity now. Well, the mysterious Don of house strikes again, putting out his biggest “hit” yet with the release of his debut album, “Don Malaa” which hit streaming platforms everywhere, September 30th. The masked French producer called upon the help of a couple long time friends and collaborators to sweeten the face value. Co-founders of the Pardon My French coalition with Malaa, the world renowned

DJ Snake and future house pioneer Tchami, make their presence felt on the Don’s record, each with their own respective collaboration, along with the likes of Tony Romera, a frequent collaborator on Tchami’s Confession label.

The fourth track titled “Deep”, features DJ Snake with Yung Felix and has a sweet bouncy bass line with the bridge taken by a Snake led, synth heavy lead and is an overall groove you’ll find yourself bouncing to again and again. The seventh track titled “Discipline” with Tchami features a light but brooding piano melody in the opening seconds for the lead which then leads into a very uniform deeper drop in. Although a bit redundant, it helps cascade the listener into the second part of the album seamlessly. The album also includes the original explosive single, “How It Is” and collabs with Fivio Foreign, Jadakiss, and a notable, honorable mention, Ghostface Killah, which features A-trak scratching vinyl something wicked on the closing track, “Die Hard”. Overall a solid listen and a huge accomplishment for Don Malaa. This has been many years coming and it was well worth the wait. Go have a listen yourself and share your thoughts on the Don’s

debut album. It’ll be worth every minute and I guarantee you’ll slap that record on repeat.

That’s all the time for us now, but hope you enjoyed and feel free to reach out to richiegtechno@ gmail.com with any thoughts you have. Keep raging my friends!

DAVID CROSBY FIRST LIVE ALBUM

Two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fam er and co-founder of the Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash, David Cros by, for the first time ever will release a solo live CD plus DVD package & digital.

Arriving November 25th via BMG, the folk-rock legend and cultural force for over fifty years, continues his late period renaissance with the release of David Crosby & The Light house Band Live at the Capitol Theatre.

Far from just a solo live album/DVD, working with his first new band since CPR (Crosby, Pevar & Raymond), Crosby and The Lighthouse Band quickly discovered their chemistry took a collaborative leap during their 2018 tour together in support of Crosby’s seventh solo album Here if You Listen (2018, BMG) culminating in this live recorded set on the last night of the run.

Recorded and filmed at the historic Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY, in a particularly meaningful turn for Crosby, the sixteen track live offering includes an uncut gem with the song “1974” - a long-lost demo track that Crosby had floating around on his computer hard drive for decades.

VANILLA FUDGE ALBUM VANILLA ZEPPELIN

After recently releasing 3 remastered Led Zeppelin classics ‘Rock and Roll,’ ‘Immigrant Song’ and ‘Ramble On’ in the lead up, Vanilla Fudge released the remastered album Vanilla Zeppelin digitally via Golden Robot Records.

This is Led Zeppelin done “Fudge’’ style and fully remastered. Vanilla Fudge rolls these classics out in their own way, with some amazing and soaring organ interludes and adding their soul and funked up influence giv ing these songs a new life and identity of their own.

On October 15, 2006, Vanilla Fudge were inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame by Felix Cavaliere for their contribution to music history.

Vanilla Fudge celebrated their 50th year Anniversary in 2017 and are still rocking the world in the current day with one of their greatest hits ‘You Keep Me Hanging On’ featured in the Quentin Tarantino movie ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.’

YES ‘CLOSE TO THE EDGE’ 50TH ANNY

Prog rock pioneers and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees YES have revealed the dates and details for the U.S. leg of their “The Album Series Tour 2022,” celebrating the 50th anniversary of their 1972 iconic album, Close To The Edge. This marks the band’s first trek in the U.S. since 2019 and will wrap in New York at the NYCB Theatre on November 19th.

As with “The Album Series Tour 2022,” which started off in the UK this past June, the U.S. tour is dedicated to the late Alan White—the band’s legendary drummer—following his passing this past May.

Alan White joined YES in June 1972, just days before their “Close To The Edge” Tour began. Over the following 50 years, Alan would appear on every YES album including 2021’s The Quest. Following the global pandemic, he had been looking forward to this tour and re-joining his bandmates on stage, something he lived for, in the run up to his 50th anniversary of joining YES.

Alan’s good friend, drummer Jay Schellen, will join YES for the forthcoming tour, alongside Steve Howe (guitars & backing vocals), Geoff Downes (key boards), Jon Davison (lead vocals) and Billy Sherwood (bass guitar and back ing vocals).

The “Close to the Edge” show will comprise full production and a high-defini tion video wall directed by Andy Clark and featuring the artwork of Roger Dean.

STARS!!!!****

I often wonder if the concept of stars in the era of the iPhone, selfies, and live streaming has become obsolete, making star worship a thing of the past. The concept is the major factor in the entertainment business, especially so in popular music. The overload of available networks, and venues in which to introduce and grow the next breed of icons, makes the actual possibility much more limited.

I thought of all this while watching “Moonage Daydream”, the excellent documentary about David Bowie, which recently played to great success in theaters worldwide and is on its way to being a DVD just in time for the holidays; Bowie came along at the right time, a burst of color, classic rooted glam rock, a brilliant song writer and vocalist, and a magnetic looking image and persona that turned the hippie, dirtbag post Woodstock music world on it’s ear. Could such a thing happen now, with all the choices and a constantly splintered audience?

The answer is yes, and his name is Harry Styles, emerging from the decades past “Boy Band” phenomena from the late 1990’s. Styles first caught the eyes of modern day teeny boppers as a member of One Direction, the last of the boy bands to enjoy major worldwide success. He has become the one to continue successfully as a solo recording artist, a handsome face that will sell tons of teen fan magazines, and now an acting career, on stage and on film. While the likes of Bowie will never again be duplicated, the teen/screamagers ranks have their icon.

MTV

There’s a new on going discussion of the impact on the music business since MTV stopped being about music and embraced ‘reality’ shows, starting with the original edition of “The Real World” decades ago. In its original version, in the early 80’s, MTV actually saved the business which had taken a sharp decline after disco died. The new breed of young people are growing up in a ‘non music centered’ world. Before MTV, we had American Bandstand, Shing Dig, Hullabaloo, local shows like The Clay Cole Show, or Jerry Blavat from Philadelphia; now, music is an afterthought, and the lack of these sorts of shows will produce the first generation in 60 years where music is, at best,a side bar for the young. The singing competition shows, which have nothing to do with original music, are the closest that we have.

SABATON EP TRILOGY

Metal heroes SABATON make an exciting announcement: With their fascination for the stories of World War I, and two dedicated studio albums filled to the brim with stories from this conflict, the band from Falun has decided to dive even deeper into this topic with their newest release: The EP trilogy entitled Echoes Of The Great War. This new EP trilogy features new songs specifically about World War I, coupled with topically related catalog music.

With this WWI collection, the band aims to present this music in a different way, enabling listeners to familiarize themselves with these incredible war stories while simultaneously quenching the thirst for metal music.

Commenting on the new project, Pär Sundström states:

The first in the series, Weapons Of The Modern Age, is out now. In times of conflict, science is very much linked to the war system. The First World War witnessed some of the biggest leaps in scientific evolution, weaponizing land, sea and skies in ways never witnessed before. This EP sheds light on the powerful and devastating tactics used to fight the war, and kicking off this release is SABATON’s new track, “Father.”

SODOM - “40 YEARS AT WAR”

Legendary German thrashers Sodom celebrate their 40th anniversary as a band with the release of ‘40 Years at War - The Greatest Hell of Sodom’. A collection of 17 classic tracks, all newly recorded by the current Sodom line-up.

Says Tom Angelripper, “Our goal was to re-record one song from each of our previous albums. Not necessarily the most obvious ones, we wanted to go for rarities or tracks we’ve never or very rarely played live.”

‘40 Years At War – The Greatest Hell Of Sodom’, is a more than worthy anniversary album that sums up the band`s history in an unusual and highly ambitious way.

NYC’S DECEMBER FALL

ENUFF Z’NUFF NEW ALBUM

Frontiers Music Srl announced the upcoming release of the latest album from Enuff Z’nuff, ‘Finer Than Sin’ on November 11th.

Now fronted by singer and bass guitarist Chip Z’nuff for their last three studio albums, including The Beatles’ covers album ‘Enuff Z’Nuff’s Hardrock Nite’, the band are still delivering their patented infectious power pop melded with hard rock.

Founding member Chip Z’nuff is once again joined by long-running members Tory Stoffregen (guitars), Tony Fennell (guitars), and Daniel Benjamin Hill (drums).

Originally formed in 1984 in Chicago, IL, Enuff Z’Nuff received their big break in 1989 when they signed to Atco/Atlantic Records. The band’s self-titled album was a monster hit and spawned two evergreen singles, “New Thing” and “Fly High Michelle”. Both received constant airplay on radio and heavy rotation on MTV, spending over 60 weeks in the Top 10. Enuff Z’nuff have soldiered on during the new musical climates of the ‘90s and ‘00s and continued to release over a dozen more studio records.

‘GRATEFUL DEAD MEET-UP 2022’

The 2022 Grateful Dead Meet-Up at the Movies is set to hit big screens with screenings across the U.S on Sat., Nov. 5. This highly anticipated fan event, “Grateful Dead Meet-Up 2022” is in celebration of the 50th anniversary of one of the Grateful Dead’s most iconic gigs from the Tivoli Concert Hall in Copenhagen, Denmark, on Apr. 17, 1972. The performance was part of the band’s legendary Europe ’72 tour and resulting blockbuster live album, which was released 50 years to the date of the Nov. 5 screenings.

Presented by Trafalgar Releasing and Rhino Entertainment, tickets for “Grateful Dead Meet-Up 2022” are on sale at www.MeetUpAtTheMovies.com.

This ground-breaking concert broadcast event was the Dead’s first major live concert broadcast anywhere, and a first in Danish television history. Now, fully restored and color corrected in High Definition with audio mixed from the 16-track analog master tapes by Jeffrey Norman, and mastered by David Glasser, Tivoli 4/17/72 features nearly an hour and a half of the Grateful Dead (Jerry Garcia, Donna Jean Godchaux, Keith Godchaux, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, Ron “Pigpen” McKernan, and Bob Weir) at a peak of their performing career.

DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE “RAND MCNALLY”

8x GRAMMY Award-nominated rock band

Death Cab for Cutie has unveiled new song, “Rand McNally,” available for exclusive, inperson listening anywhere the band has played throughout their storied 25-year career.

Of the track itself, Gibbard shares: “‘Rand’ was written for everyone we toured with back in the day, for everyone who let us sleep on their floor, and for past bandmates. I felt after all these years that they deserved their own folk song. But also a promise to keep going and keep creating.”

That track followed the release of lead single “Here to Forever,” which was the most-added song at AAA and Alternative radio upon its mid-July debut.

The first song to be released off the album – “Roman Candles” – arrived with a (quite literally) explosive one-take music video directed by Lance Bangs (Sonic Youth, Nirvana). “Roman Candles” was featured on NPR’s All Songs Considered, with host Bob Boilen highlighting its “two bursting minutes.”

COLDPLAY FROM BUENOS AIRES

Coldplay announced a special live broadcast of the band’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour from Buenos Aires’ River Plate Stadium. The worldwide live event will be shown in thousands of cinemas across more than 70 countries on October 28/29. The show will see the band perform classic hits from across their career including Yellow, The Scientist, Fix You, Viva La Vida, A Sky Full Of Stars and My Universe in a stadium bursting with lights, lasers, fireworks and LED wristbands - all of which combine to make Coldplay’s concerts such a joyful and life-affirming experience. This beautifullyfilmed feature presentation will be directed by acclaimed BAFTA-winning and Grammy-nominated director Paul Dugdale.

Tickets for the event - the first ever live worldwide cinema broadcast of a concert from Latin America – are available from coldplaycinema.live (where fans can also sign up now to get updates and information).

ROGER TAYLOR OUTSIDER TOUR LIVE

While it took Roger Taylor eight years and a pandemic to deliver his sixth and most successful solo album to date - last year’s warmly embraced Outsider - Taylor swiftly returns with another to add to his solo canon of work.

Taylor is to release a live album recorded during his hugely successful October 2021 Outsider UK tour which saw the Queen founding member perform a series of ‘intimate’ shows: “my modesty tour, I just want it to be lots of fun, very good musically”, said Taylor at the time of announcing his first live performances outside of Queen in over twenty years. Coming on Vinyl, as a 2CD set, and digital release, Taylor’s The Outsider Tour Live, featuring 22 tracks performed across his 14-date sold out late 2021 tour is available now.

With a smartly gauged set list blending the new material with irresistible Queen classics and a glorious revisiting of his six-album strong solo catalog, Taylor’s gigs proved a masterclass in how to thrill an audience by finding the sweet spot which marries the shock of the new and the hysteria of rock’s history.
