Priests and Temple: The Living Stone and His Holy Nation, 2.4-10

Bringing it Together

On 2.1-10: Scripture, something God's children are to long for as babies for mother's milk, provides the blueprints for God's glorious construction program, chiseling His people as living stones to conform to His Son, the Living Stone, a people bought back from spiritual adultery and divorce into a family relationship whose long-prophesied purpose is to be God's sanctified dwelling place on earth and God's sanctified priesthood for earth.

Pondering 1 Peter’s introduction (1.1-2.10). What are we, the church, for?

How does the priesthood/temple that is the Church carry forth its mission on earth?

Poetic Structure 1 Peter 2.21-25 (in ESV) 1 For to this you have been called 2 because Christ also suffered for you 3 leaving you an example 4 so that you might follow in his steps 5 He committed no sin 6 neither was deceit found in his mouth 7 When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; 8 when he suffered, he did not threaten 9 but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly 10 He himself bore our sins 11 in his body on the tree 12 that we might die to sin 13 and live to righteousness 14 By his wounds you have been healed 15 For you were straying like sheep 16 but have now returned to the Shepherd 17 and Overseer of your souls.
