Majestic Milan presents an alluring blend of medieval and modern buildings then there’s the Eternal City of Rome where stunning landmarks include the breathtaking Pantheon – a circular temple dating from 27BC and one of the best preserved of all ancient Roman buildings. Civitavecchia is a gem to explore with its well preserved Roman port and medley of architectural jewellery. We then set foot on heavenly Sardinia, a captivating island with a historic core where traces of early settlers such as the Phoenicians can be found. This morning a local representative will call at your hotel to give you a taste of the history of the island along with some hints and tips to get your sightseeing off to a great start. Perhaps head to Ajaccio, the island capital and birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte or alternatively, the commune of Bonifacio is an ancient fortress town with a labyrinth of narrow lanes crammed with historic buildings. First up today is the elegant spa town of Baden Baden, home to the Faberge Museum, the opulent Kurhaus casino and a funicular railway that climbs Mount Merkur affording amazing views. From here we travel along the Schwarzwald Hochstrase in the foothills of the Black Forest, Germany’s oldest panoramic road, reaching Mummelsee, the highest lake in the Black Forest. Today our ship glides us to Winningen where again you have the choice of staying on board and sailing to Cochem or cycling the seventeen miles to this traditional German village. En route you will pass storybook Castle Eltz, a romantic palace dating from the 12th century. Take time to visit the

incomparable Reichsburg fortress during your free time in Cochem. Monday. Our cruise continues to Boppard, a pretty town bursting with medieval charm. Continue sailing to Rudesheim or take to your bike and pedal the twenty-eight miles along the popular Rhine Cycle Path to this fun-filled resort. Tuesday. Depart Rudesheim early morning for your cycle or cruise to Koblenz forty miles away. Koblenz has a modern cable car that takes you up to an ancient fortress and is famous for its German Corner, a square watched over by a gigantic statue of Kaiser Wilhelm.
