CAPTAIN’S REPORT Whilst we see a future that will require us to be agile and think differently, one thing remains certain; ‘As Members, you are the heart of our Club and our priority is to ensure you are all at the forefront of our future decision making’. CAPTAIN Bevan Roberts

Members, It has been an honour to serve this great Club as Captain for the past two years, and a total of eight consecutive years on Committee of Management. We are fortunate to have such a hardworking and passionate Committee and team of staff who play an integral part in the efficient running of Glenelg Golf Club. They have not only made my job as Captain easier but continue to make this role an extremely rewarding one. The 15-month period since our last Annual Report has seen much progress and considerable change to our Club and golf course. The uncertainty brought on by the Covid-19 global pandemic, has made this last phase of the financial and membership year considerably more challenging. Despite invariably being forced to deal with their own challenges during this time, we thank all our Members, who remain united in their support of the Club, through renewal of their memberships and utilisation of the food and beverage services.

4

Our financial position at the time of compiling this report is solid, with zero debt. The position in which we find ourselves would be the envy of many Clubs around the Nation, given the uncertain times we have just traversed, and that also lay ahead. We are currently drafting long term cash flow plans to tie in with a new strategic plan, a process slightly delayed due to COVID-19. However, these strategic matters feature as a priority on the agenda for the coming year. The net result for the 2019/20 financial year was very much skewed given the recently adopted change from a December year end, to March. The recorded loss of $630,982 for the 15-month period is severely distorted given it incorporates only 12 months of membership income. A more accurate comparison can be derived from the budget in which the period finished with a positive variance of $64,152. On the golf course, the 2019 Glenelg Pennant sides continued to be a force to be reckoned with! Congratulations to our Glenelg Golf Club Simpson Cup team who won for a fourth consecutive year. Unfortunately, we couldn’t push for a record equalling five in a row this year due to COVID-19, however, Team Glenelg are in preparations for a strong 2021.

Glenelg Golf Club Incorporated

ABN 94 199 789 857

Congratulations also extends to our Women’s A1 team who returned the Sanderson Cup to Glenelg after three years. To all the other winning teams and those who represented our Club, it really was a year of domination for Glenelg. Everyone involved in the Pennant Program deserves our acclaim for their outstanding individual and collective achievements. Whist the Queen Sirikit Cup is covered elsewhere, it is worth noting in this report that the ‘whole of Club’ performance at this Event was absolutely outstanding. Course Superintendent Tim Warren and the entire course staff continue to produce a magnificent golf course week in, week out. Even with a global pandemic thrown into the mix, the playing surfaces continued to be presented at an extremely high level. Amongst the regular routine, numerous projects have taken place, most notably bunker access improvement. The team have done a tremendous job reshaping the bunkers to ease entry and exit points for Members, whilst improving the visual impact of the golf hole. The golf industry continues to recognise our Club, with consistent high scores in the Conditioning, Memorability and Ambience categories. In the 2019/20 Golf Digest Top 100 Golf Course rankings, Glenelg Golf Club rated 37 in Australia, down one position. However, this represented a strong result given two brand new courses entered the top 20 this year.

Our regular Tuesday volunteer group deserve our admiration and sincere thanks for assisting the course staff and completing numerous jobs around the Club and golf course. Their contribution to the Club, in many ways, is invaluable. The Club was again awarded Best Club Reception Venue in Australia by the Australian Bridal Industry Academy, for a third consecutive year. A great achievement that further enhances our reputation and the Glenelg Golf Club brand throughout the state and country. A big thank you and well done to our hospitality team, who recently, willingly turned their hands to our Club renovation works during the Covid-19 closure. By the look of the revamped Clubhouse, coupled with this exceptional team, I expect we will see many more awards head our way.

Following the unexpected resignation of David Brooks, we have seen the appointment of our new General Manger, Robert Vincekovic. Robert has led the Club, his team of staff, and Members, through these unprecedented times with great maturity, foresight and determination. I believe that I speak on behalf of all the Members when I say that the communication and leadership through this uncertain period, has been outstanding. Robert continues to enthuse his team, highlighted through the outstanding renovations undertaken during the Clubhouse closure. It is also great to see Robert out and about chatting to Members and guests, forging relationships with Members and garnering a deep understanding of our great Club. We look forward to maintaining a long period of management stability going forward.

A golf club is all about the Members and I would sincerely like to thank you all for your support, encouragement and input over the past 24 months. The Glenelg culture remains strong and it is you, the Members, that make our Club a special place and the great Club that it is. I hope you and your friends have enjoyed golf at The Bay as much as I. Together we will continue to grow, evolve and prosper through the current, unprecedented world situation and come out the other side even stronger. I have thoroughly enjoyed the Committee experience. With our great golf course, fabulous Members and current team of management and staff, I believe our Club has a wonderful future. Glenelg Golf Club truly has the potential to become the number one golfing facility in South Australia and I wish the Club and future Committees every success.

QUEEN SIRIKIT CUP The 2019 Queen Sirikit Cup represented the 41st staging of this iconic women’s amateur teams’ event and just the fourth time that it had been held in Australia since first played in 1979. It was hailed a success in every aspect of the Championship with the players, team officials and delegates from the 14 competing countries, together with officials from the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation and the R&A, greatly appreciating the wonderful support that the Club provided.

FINANCE The period ended the 31st March 2020, saw some significant changes to the way the Club is required to report income and expenditure, and the contents of the Statement of Financial Position. With the substantial changes to the Accounting Standards that would impact the Club during this period, it was an ideal time to align the Financial Year of the club to the membership Year of the Club. This change involved an amendment to the Club’s Constitution, which was passed with Members support at a Special General Meeting in November. Therefore, the reporting period in this Annual Report includes the 15 months from January 2019 to March 2020. This change to reporting periods has meant a close comparison to prior year’s performance is not an accurate measure, and when reading the result, one needs to factor in the 12 months of Subscription revenue against 15 months of Operating Expenses. Accounting Standard changes in relation to revenue recognition, saw the requirement to report all annual incomes within the membership year they relate. Changing the financial year allows that to occur, as previously annual incomes were included in the year the annual fees commenced. The change to revenue recognition also impacted how the Club is required to report Entrance Fee income, with the Entrance Fees to be spread over a period of expected membership. This change was required to be made retrospectively, meaning an Entrance Fee Accrual was created from prior year’s retained earnings, and will be apportioned over future years.

Position as a Lease Liability. The corresponding entry was the creation of a Right of Use Asset for the reporting of the Lease equipment that the Club has exclusive use of. The treatment of these items has also involved a change to the expenses reported. Where we previously recognised a rental expense for these items, we now recognise depreciation and interest payments. It was not a requirment that these changes be adjusted for prior years, so only the current period report is impacted. Accounting Standard changes in relation to Financial Instruments also saw the need to change the way the Club is required to report shareholdings in Glenelg Golf Links Limited. Previously these shares were carried at cost. The new standard requires them to be carried at fair value. The reporting adjustment was required to be changed comparatively, this meant a change was made to the 2018 figures. The adjustment has been brought to account through Other Comprehensive Income and a corresponding reserve has been established in Equity.

The period ending 31st March 2020 reported an operating loss of $630,982. Total equity increased to $11,250,124. The Club’s cash position increased by $316,844, with $449,882 available at period end. Cash flow generated from operating activities was used to fund the Club’s capital expenditure programs for the year. The timing of the change of year end, the later invoicing of Annual fees and the beginning of Covid-19 restrictions, saw an increase in drawing of the loan facility, with additional funds being retained in operating accounts in case short term cash flows were required. The current available loan facility remains at $2,200,000 with $1,210,000 of the facility being drawn down at period end. New operating leases were entered into for Course equipment, at the completion of existing ones. A new hire purchase agreement for course equipment commenced, with two golf cart agreements reaching completion. Overall, the Club’s total debt level increased by $550,164 to $1,674,115, driven largely by the change in reporting

requirements for operating leases to be included as a liability. Pleasingly, by the 17th April 2020 when Annual renewals were due, the interest accruing loan facility was completely offset, with the only outstanding debts relating to future rental payments of operating equipment. Capital expenditure for the year was $508,269. The project for technology upgrades was undertaken with the implementation of Northstar, which replaced the existing membership, hospitality and accounting programs that had been in place for over 10 years. At the same time, new point of sale terminals were installed in the hospitality areas and the Member card system was introduced. The project will continue to evolve through the 2020/2021

year. The beer selections were completely refreshed and with that came an upgrade to the cool room chilling and tap systems. The Member’s Lounge bar began to see some upgrades with a change of cabinetry and a new wine fridge. The kitchen also saw the addition of a hot box to assist with managing the needs of our busy Clubhouse. The practice range saw an upgrade with irrigation and hitting bays completed earlier in the year, and later in the year the addition of the range servant machine. The course saw the addition of an excavator to their fleet, a new roller, and the replacement of the grinder. Various other pieces of essential equipment were replaced or upgraded through the leasing program. Total net income for the period was $3,523,128, an increase of 5% over

the prior period, representing 15 months of trading income against the previous 12 months of trading income. Membership income continues to positively increase on prior years, with $2,763,178 of income reported for the period. Subscription income increasing 2.9% over the prior year. Entrance fees increased over prior years with the impact of the reporting changes being included. This change equated to approximately a $20,000 negative impact against the actual new Entrance fees invoiced for the period. Golf Operations tracked comparatively well to the prior period, reporting a $283,150 surplus for the period. Green fee income continues to be a positive contributor to the bottom line, with trade days contributing to

47% of total green fee income. The effects of Covid-19 impacted the final two weeks of March, which is normally a very busy period for visitors. Other accounting standards affecting this cost centre saw an increase to depreciation for the golf carts currently under operating lease arrangements, offset against other golf operations expenses. Hospitality operations saw an operating surplus of $195,303. Cost of goods for bar tracked similarly to prior periods, but an increase in cost of goods for catering and cost of wages being higher than prior periods. January and February are generally the quieter months of the year for functions and general trade, so to include two of these months in the one accounting period has skewed the percentages. Unfortunately, the total period saw a decrease in our function business revenue contribution, compared to prior periods, with function revenue contributing 40% of total hospitality revenue, down from 46% in the prior period. Covid-19 began impacting Clubhouse operations from early March with many functions being postponed, and all activities ceasing on the 23rd March 2020. Other income included the forfeit of two year’s catering levy unspent amounts, with the ending of the 2019/2020 levy at the end of the membership year. Total expenditure for the 15-month period was $4,154,110, an increase of 36% over the prior period, representing 15 months of operating expenditure compared with the previous 12 months of operating expenditure. Administration expenditure of $1,262,053, was recorded for the 15-month period. Prior period costs were lower than usual due to some extenuating circumstances, making an average comparison not accurate. Most significantly, staff levels were reinstated similar to pre-2018 levels. Bank charges

and merchant fees increased more than average, with the debt facility being held for the full 15 months, against only partial holding in 2018, combined with two membership renewals being conducted and an increase in merchant fees. There were increased costs for technology support for the changeover of systems and continued maintenance of dual systems during changeover. There were additional costs for the Club brought about by hosting the Queen Sirikit, as well as other needs based costs that are not recurring. Course expenditure of $2,291,750, was recorded for the 15-month period. The preparation for hosting of the Queen Sirikit in March 2019 saw a large increase in staff, maintenance and power costs as additional hours, course work and irrigation were required. This period includes a large reduction in stock from prior year, as stockholdings were reassessed, with changes to only record chemicals, fuel and high use machinery inputs. The impact of the new treatment of operating leases is seen through a significant increase of depreciation for the right of use assets, and the offset in the Other Expenses where rental payments were previously recorded. The inclusion of an extra summer quarter in the course expenditure also inflates the figures for comparison.

2019 HandiSkins competition winners: Trevor Wortmeyer, Rick Karolewicz, Don Shipway & Neville Brown

House expenditure of $626,623, was recorded for the 15-month period, this has tracked comparatively to prior period, when looked at as a per month average. The inclusion of an extra summer quarter sees higher than average utility costs, combined with the commencement of a new electricity contract at the start of 2019. Trade and other payables for the year end totalled $603,377, compared with $209,021 in 2018. With the different timing of year end being the biggest contributor to the variance.

GOLF COURSE The year was off to a busy start with the Club hosting a Blitz Golf Event in January and the Queen’s Sirikit Cup in March. Both of these events gave our staff a chance to showcase their professionalism and provided added experience in presenting the course to a highlevel tournament standard. Voluntary greenkeepers from Kooyonga, Royal Adelaide and Grange Golf Clubs worked with our team during the Queen’s Sirikit Cup. In addition, two of our greenkeepers worked at Grange for the Women’s Australian Open, furthering their skills and tournament experience. There was a handful of staff movements throughout the year with Chris Barns, Liam Doyle, Trevor Lawson and Matthew Sugg resigning. Two new apprentices, Jamie Gibson and Brayden Gaiter, as well as Cooper Harrison joined

the green keeping team. Ethan Sykes also joined us, replacing Liam Doyle as our Turf Technician. Simon Despoja became our full-time Vegetation Officer and Graeme Davidson joined our team as an Assistant Course Operations Manager. Graeme brings a highlevel of tournament experience having undertaken a Royal & Ancient scholarship which enabled him to work at the Singapore Open, The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Florida as well as The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. A number of our staff and committee attended a Tri-club interstate visit to Bonnie Doon Golf Club in Sydney. The visit was an opportunity to strengthen ties with Bonnie Doon and Woodlands Golf Clubs, see their facilities and their course management practices. This visit led to a trial of Zoysia grass variety in the redeveloped area at our practice fairway.

Simon Grieve was invited to present at the Australian Superintendent and Turf Managers Association National Conference in Brisbane. Simon presented on our experiences with the Aquifer Storage Recharge (ASR) system over the last eleven years of operation. The Australian Superintendent and Turf Managers Association asked us to host a workshop on indigenous plants and biodiversity projects at golf courses. The workshop was attended by staff from fellow Group 1 Clubs, as well as some Adelaide Hills clubs. Monina Gilbey presented on our biodiversity and vegetation activities. A review process of the Course Enhancement Plan was undertaken to provide feedback to Committee of Management as we work towards a new plan which will coincide with a Strategic Plan.

Course works included a new Greens Nursery adjacent to the 12th fairway and installation of mounding along the 18th fairway. Planting of the mounding and paving will be undertaken next year. The improved bunker access work also proved to be popular amongst the membership. A practice green was added to the practice fairway area. This green provides Members with another element to their practice at the range. Glenelg Irrigation was engaged to audit the energy and hydraulic efficiency of our pumping and irrigation systems. This allows us to assess the systems and pinpoint areas which need improvement. The systems are currently running beyond their economical lifespan and the next step is to plan a staged redevelopment of our irrigation system.

An integral part of our water supply is the ASR. Major issues with ASR2, one of our injection bores, led to a full audit of the system. As a result, we are developing a maintenance plan for the ageing infrastructure to continue to efficiently operate the system. Over 1000 native plants were planted in various areas of the course. Due to a very dry season last year there was a loss of some plants, even with hand watering through summer. In order to store our seedlings and start growing plants from seeds and cuttings, we re-established the plant nursery. We reconnected with Vicky Hagan, who formerly grew plants for the course, and started investigating a possible seed swap between golf courses.

areas were the reeds between the 6th and 7th and the 11th. The burn offs were helpful in reducing the density of the reeds, as well as reducing weeds and the weed seedbank. The Friends of the Golf Course have been very active during the year working on the first and third weeks of each month. They have assisted with staining and painting course signage, removal of weedy plant species, painting posts, and raking and dumping of pine needles and pine cones. Our volunteers have contributed over 500 hours of their valuable time. We appreciate the help of the Friends of the Golf Course and encourage other Members to get involved.

This year we experimented with ecological burning. The main focus

CLUBHOUSE, FOOD & BEVERAGE Our food and beverage offerings, again, played a key role in the financial success of the Club, particularly the activity generated through our function, events and corporate golf day catering. Glenelg continues to be considered the leader in its class for such events, being recognised once again as the Best Club Reception Venue, both in South Australia and Australia, at the 2019 Australian Bridal Industry Awards. The Club’s ongoing success on the local and National stage will see Glenelg inducted into the Australian Bridal Industry Academy Hall of Fame, at the 2020 awards ceremony. We acknowledge the considerable work and effort of Sales and Events Manager Lynn Kschammer, along with our dedicated hospitality & kitchen team, in consistently delivering the tailored service, exceptional product and memorable experiences that have culminated in our long-standing success at the very highest level!

the consistency of our product. The introduction of regular team meetings has also provided the platform for ongoing review and improvement of service standards. Negotiation of our tap beer contracts, and shifting to a multisupplier agreement, has seen the Club’s offering increase from a selection of 7 beers, across 12 taps, to 12 unique beers across 16 taps, including 3 ‘guest’ taps. This has significantly broadened the range and interest of tap beers available to our Members, guests and function clients.

New tap beer offerings with 12 unique beers across 16 taps, including 3 ‘guest’ taps

Newly introduced ‘Feature Producer Tastings’ were well received, and offered an opportunity for Members to engage with the people behind some exceptional commercial and boutique products, including wines, gin and beer.

Building on the foundations already laid, improving our food and beverage offering and Member experience, has been a key focus throughout the year.

As always, the annual wine dinner was a highlight on the calendar, and a sell-out event in 2019. New standards were set in the presentation of the Clubhouse, with Members treated to a setting that brought a little bit of the winery into the Dining Room, and a spectacular night of food, wine and commentary. Woodstock’s continued support of this event (and as the Club’s major wine partner) ensured it was an evening to be remembered.

Training for our front of house team, including barista and service training, along with beer education, has helped improve

showcasing an exceptional course, Clubhouse and outdoor ‘Village’ to thousands of spectators and patrons. Our general bar and bistro operations generated just over $1.7m in revenue for the 2019/2020 period. Function Operations generated $1.15m in revenue for the 2019/2020 period. With a net contribution of $195,303 to the Club’s financial position once expenses were offset. Our function business again was a major contributor to the Club’s financial performance with 346 functions, conferences, weddings and golf days held during 2019. With the wedding market constantly evolving, we continue to look at new ways to attract new and repeat business to the Club.

Refurbishment of our function spaces and bars, a revised approach to our marketing and function packages, along with the rebranding of our function venue to ‘Pinehill at Glenelg Golf Club’ are just a few of the measures currently being undertaken to ensure Glenelg Golf Club remains the industry leader.

MEMBERSHIP & GOLF We welcome all the new Members to the Club. We hope your golf scores are great and most importantly we hope you enjoy the Glenelg comradery and many wonderful experiences at The Bay over the coming years.

Membership interest and uptake has remained stable in 2019, compared to 2018. This year saw the re-introduction of the Clubhouse Membership, a nonplaying category offered to longterm Members who would like to retain a connection with the Club. This year there was a large uptake in new introductory memberships, especially The Bay Experience, with twice as many Members in this category compared to the year before. Since this category was introduced as a pathway into traditional membership, 2019 saw a strong focus to help guide these Members, through regular communication and special offers. Glenelg had a superb Pennant season, with Team Glenelg bringing home four flags after winning the Simpson, Bonnar, Sanderson and Women’s A3 Cups.

2019/20 Annual Report

It’s been 54 years since team Glenelg won both Sanderson & Simpson Cups, so a very special year for all team Glenelg. The Club continues to have a strong partnership with the Adelaide Football Club as the official golf club of the Adelaide Crows. We hosted another successful Adelaide Crows Golf Day, and Glenelg featured in 20 episodes of the The Crows Show on TV and online. Notable golf events include the sell-out Winery Golf Day, Volkswagen Scramble, Handiskins and the re-imagined Tuohy Trophy. Glenelg hosted an array of popular external trade and charity events including Adtrans, Youth Ops, Governors Cup, City Mazda and Minda Golf Day.

OUR PEOPLE At the AGM on 27th March 2019 President, Helen McMutrie advised that Paul Grosvenor and Sid Kookana had been re-elected unopposed to the Committee of Management for a term of 3 years each. Mr Ian Symons stepped down as Vice-President and Mrs McMutrie thanked him for his 4 years of service. Mr David Lindsay was re-appointed as Vice-President for a further term of 1 year. In August 2019, Darren Royals stepped down from the Committee of Management and Scott Petherick was appointed in October 2019. On 27th November 2019 a Special General Meeting was held to further amend the Club Constitution. The current

Club Constitution was adopted in February 2000, with the Committee beginning the process of reviewing the document in 2018, with initial changes passed at the AGM in March 2018. As a result of this review process, Member approval was sought to amend three major provisions; The alignment of the Club’s financial year with the membership year of the Club, the means by which the Club communicates with Members, and formalizing the way in which Members can vote and the quorum required for referendums. The motions were all unanimously supported at the SGM in November 2019. The Women’s Sub-Committee continued to provide an actionpacked golf and social program for the Club’s women’s golfers.

A big thankyou to Women’s President, Cheryl Franzi who completed her term in October 2019. Annette Rieniets stepped into the Presidesnt’s role, and we welcomed Joanne Rice to the SubCommittee in the role of Women’s Vice-President. Sue Raggatt, Women’s Captain, Fiona Eblen, Women’s Vice-Captain and Meg Woods, continued in their roles. We are fortunate to have a Club full of Members who happily give their time and energy to undertake a myriad of tasks for the Club. Volunteers have been found managing pennant teams, refereeing, collecting pine cones and other course maintenance, gardening, coaching, marshalling, polishing trophies and not to mention all the wonderful helpers during the Queen Sirikit Cup. Our thanks goes to all those who

generously supported the Club in 2019. 2019 saw a number of changes, beginning with the appointment of our Clubhouse Manager, David Rice in April. Dave had barely stepped inside the door before being thrust into the new Northstar system installation. He made a number of improvements to the Clubhouse experience including food and beverage, new tap beer offerings and the new POS/ Member card system. David has been a rock for our entire team since commencing, as he took the reins and managed the Club extremely well between General Managers. Following a difficult year dealing with family health issues, General Manager, David Brooks left in November 2019. Robert Vincekovic was appointed and took up the role in January 2020,

and almost immediately was faced with navigating the Club through the ever-changing Covid-19 restrictions. We welcomed Matt Stone to the team as Assistant Accountant in July to assist Carly Clough, our long-term Finance Manager. Carly’s long-term tenure and diligent service to the Club over many years has been invaluable, particularly during recent periods of change. Carly has often worked in capacities well outside of her job description to ensure continuity of service and operations, for both Members and staff. Her constant focus on minimising any potential impact on Members, through periods of staffing changes, and changes to our back of house operations, has been greatly appreciated. The remainder of the Administration team has been

relatively stable with James Lorenz as Marketing and Membership, Tia Johnstone at Reception and Raeleen Day as the Membership and Administration Officer. Our hospitality team have adapted incredibly well to our new point of sale system, and willingly embraced new ideas and procedures to ensure a high standard of service. It’s incredibly pleasing to see a genuine attitude of putting our Members needs first among our team, and I’m sure that this is a big part of what makes Glenelg such a special Club to be a part of. Leading from the front, over many years in a casual capacity, has been Michelle Siebert, Sherylea Kemp and James Bridgen. Their hard work and service has recently been rewarded with full time positions.

Simon Grasel, was also appointed to the full-time role of Sous Chef, in early 2019. Simon has, largely, lead the kitchen over the past year, with Head Chef Matt Chapman incapacitated by injury. Building on the foundation laid by Matt, Simon has brought a new level of passion, creativity and quality to our food offering. Lynn Kschammer has continued her role as Sales and Events Manager. At the 2019 South Australian Bridal Industry Awards, Glenelg Golf Club won the State’s Best Club Reception Venue for the 5th time. The accolade comes just a few months after the Club received its third National award in the same category, at the Australian Bridal Industry Awards night on the Gold Coast. The State award will see our Club inducted

into the ABIA Hall of Fame at next year’s State awards ceremony. Well done to Lynn and her hard-working Functions team! As always, the Pro Shop team led by Shane Robinson have continued their exemplary service over the past 12 months. Sue Robinson and Sam Hughes have been the perfect support for Shane, particularly through the plethora of changes during the Covid-19 period. Together, the entire Pro Shop team have done an outstanding job, keeping the game of golf running with some sort of normality, with the best interest of Members, and always with a friendly attitude. Thank you. The Golf Operations Team of PGA accredited coaches and specialist Member services staff

underwent some major changes in 2019. The departure of Head Coach Jordon Harkin paved the way for PGA Professional Sarah King to take on the demanding role of Head Teaching Professional of the Glenelg Coaching Academy. Sarah’s appointment was historical in that she became the first female to hold a Head Teaching professional role at a group one club in South Australia. Sarah’s appointment left an opening for a motivated teaching professional and we were very pleased when Braeden Kelly, who worked in the Pro Shop as a 17-yearold, and having just completed his PGA traineeship at Grange, applied and won the position. Since beginning his role in March 2019 Braeden has revelled in both the Member service Pro Shop work and thrived in the dynamic coaching environment at Glenelg. We also welcomed Harry Edwards (Pennant player and current Junior Club Champion) and Brad Bell (also a Pennant player) to the Pro Shop services team. The annual 50 Year Club Luncheon was held in November. Joining the previous long serving Members, new inductees to the 50 Year Club were Prue Henschke, Wayne Humphries, William Strangways, Jan Dale-Harris and Margie Roberts. Sadly, we lost a number of longtime Members during the year, including Rhonda Watson OAM who was a Life Member of 71 years, Bill (David) Barton, a Member of 60 years and Club Captain in 1990-91. We also, sadly, lost Tony Whitford, a 58 year Member and the Club Captain in 1988-89. Other longtime Members who passed away were Peter Wheatley (Member for 63 yrs) and Elliot Shea (Member for 68 years). We also remember Mark Halls, John Ward, Jack Calderbank, Peter Toogood, Colin Peters AM, Dennis Farrelly, Bing Oei and John Norman Smith.

FOUNDATION & HERITAGE FUND The Glenelg Golf Club Foundation is committed to supporting, promoting and encouraging participation in golf through a variety of projects that stimulate development and growth, especially amongst our junior Members. The reputation of the Club’s Junior Golf and Elite Player Development Program continued to be a positive asset to our Club.

The Trophy Presentation Night was a fantasitc way to wrap-up the end of seasn and celebrate our Members success out on the course.

In both January 2019 and 2020, our Golf Operations team ran successful Junior Development Golf Days, with coaching and golf followed by a casual BBQ in the Clubhouse with parents and friends. The Foundation supported Glenelg Golf Club Junior Members by contributing more than $8,000 towards tournament entry fees, travel expense subsidies, individual lessons, Junior Tigers and HighPerformance clinics.

Foundation Golf Day was generously supported by our Juniors, Members and Club partners

In October, the annual Foundation Golf Day was held. Again, it was generously supported by Members and Club partners, resulting in excess of $15,720 being raised. Total funds raised by the Foundation during 2019/2020 exceeded $30,640. Members are encouraged to 50 Year Club inductees William Strangways and Wayne support the Glenelg Golf Club Humphries with Bevan Roberts Foundation through ongoing fundraising initiatives and other activities. This will ensure we can continue to provide our junior Members with the best development programs in Australia, and develop and improve our infrastructure and facilities. No new activity was seen in the Club’s Heritage Fund during 2019/2020.

“Rhonda had an outstanding and distinguished golfing career. She was indispensable as a wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother (to two children), and great grandmother to five children”

A very successful season for #TeamGlenelg

Charley Jacobs, 18, Intermediate Member 2019 was quite an exciting year, I represented Australia for the first time in Florida in March, at the major champions invitational. In April, at the Australian Junior I finished 5th, which included my new personal best round of 7 under in the final round. In July I played in the IMG Junior World championships in San Diego, where I finished tied for 6th. My highlight of the year for sure would have been winning the Dunes Medal in November, one of the most nervous weeks of my life for sure, but also the most rewarding!! I signed with Iowa State University in November as well, I’m hoping to head over there in August - finger crossed!!

Charley won the Dunes Medal in 2019

I could not be more excited to be heading to college, and be a part of an amazing program like Iowa State, but I will be back at Glenelg for sure next June for Pennant!!

Jack Buchanan, 18, Intermediate Member 2019 was another exciting and rewarding year. Noteable successes include: •

Won SA Junior & Men’s Vardon series

Rep SA Junior & Mens state team

Glenelg Junior Pennant Player of Year

Represented Australia and team Adam Scott in Nick Faldo Major Champions invitational in US placing 11th

Represented Australia in Maylasian Amatuer and in Japan for Junior APGC

Winner JNJG International - 8 and was given exemption into first professional event - NSW Open

Masters of Amateurs T9

Jack won the Jack Newton Junior International Classic in 2019

The financial report covers the consolidated entity of Glenelg Golf Club Inc as the individual controlling entity and the controlled entity, Glenelg Golf Links Limited. The financial report of Glenelg Golf Club Inc and the controlled entity and Glenelg Golf Club Inc as an individual controlling entity comply with all Australian equivalents to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in their entirety except where compliance is not mandatory for non-corporate entities. The following is a summary of the material accounting policies adopted by the consolidated entity in preparation of the financial report. The accounting policies have been consistently applied unless otherwise stated. The financial report has been prepared on an accrual basis and is based on historical costs and does not take into account changing money values or, except where stated, current valuations of non-current assets. Cost is based on the fair values of the consideration given in exchange for assets. Unless otherwise stated, the accounting policies adopted are consistent with those of the previous year. During the 2019/2020 year a Constitutional amendment was passed to change the Club’s financial year to align with the Club’s Membership year being 1st April to the 31st March. The 2019/2020 financial year has therefore been reported for a 15 month period. The financial result for the period represents Subscritpion income for the 12 month period from April 2019 through to March 2020, with operating expenses relating to the 15 month period. This means comparatives with the current period are not based on the same length of reporting period. This will impact the current report and the 2020/2021 report. a)

Principles of Consolidation The Club controls the share capital of Glenelg Golf Links Limited. The consolidated accounts incorporated the assets and liabilities of Glenelg Golf Links Limited as at 31 March 2020 and the results of the Company for the period then ended. The effects of all transactions between the Club and the Company are eliminated in full. Outside equity interests in the results and group equity are shown separately in the consolidated profit and loss account and balance sheet respectively. The cost of acquiring shares in Glenelg Golf Links Limited have been accounted for as an interest in the land owned by that company and reflected accordingly.

b)

Financial Instruments Changes to accounting standard AASB 9 have impacted the way that the GGL shares are to be reported in the 2019-2020 Financial reports. Previoulsy shares had been recorded at purchase price. These changes were required to be retrospective, therefore the 2018 comparative figures have been adjusted accordingly. Financial assets and liabilities are initially recognised when the Association becomes a party to the contractual provisions to the instrument. For Financial assets, this is the date that the Association commits itself to the purchase or sale of the asset. Financial assets are initially measured at fair value, where the values in an active market are used to determine the value. A financial asset can be subsequently measured in three ways; amortised cost, fair value through other comprehensive income, or fair value through profit and loss. A financial asset is subsequently measured at fair value through other comprehensive income as it is irrevocably designated by Committee to be treated in this way, with fair value adjustments to be made against a reserve in equity. As the value of the shares do not impact the business operating performance, the fair value adjustment need not impact operating surplus/deficit. A financial liability can be measured at amortised cost or at fair value through the Profit and Loss. In relation to the Club’s loan and Commercial Bill facilities they are measured at the amortised cost and the effective interest rate method is applied. This means the interest costs related to the debt are expensed in the Profit and Loss over the relevant period.

GLENELG GOLF CLUB INCORPORATED NOTES TO AND FORMING PART OF THE ACCOUNTS FOR THE PERIOD ENDED 31 MARCH 2020 NOTE 1 - STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANT ACCOUNTING POLICIES c)

Property, Plant and Equipment Each class of property, plant and equipment is carried at cost less, where applicable, any accumulated depreciation and impairment losses. Property Freehold land is shown at cost. Building is shown at cost less any accumulated depreciation and impairment losses. Plant and Equipment The depreciable amount of all fixed assets including building, but excluding freehold land, is depreciated on a straight line basis over their useful lives to the consolidated entity commencing from the time the asset is held ready for use. The depreciation rates for each class of depreciable assets are based on the following estimated useful lives, expressed in years: Category Administration furniture and fittings Bar plant and equipment Catering plant and equipment Clubhouse building Clubhouse other Course buildings House plant and equipment Motor vehicles Office equipment Course plant and equipment Entrance road

d)

Useful Lives 5-11 8-11 7-11 40-50 7-11 4-25 8-11 4-5 5-7.5 4-11 15

Impairment of Assets At each reporting date, the Committee of Management reviews the carrying values of its assets to determine whether there is any indication that those assets have been impaired. If such an indication exists, the recoverable amount of the asset, being the higher of the asset’s fair value less costs to sell and value in use, is compared to the asset’s carrying value. Any excess of the asset’s carrying value over its recoverable amount is expensed to the income statement Where it is not possible to determine the recoverable amount of an individual asset, the Committee of Management estimates the recoverable amount of the cash-generating unit to which the asset belongs.

e)

Employee Benefits Provision is made for the association’s liability for employee benefits arising from services rendered by employees to balance date. Employee entitlements expected to be settled within one year together with entitlements arising from wages and salaries, annual leave and long service leave which will be settled after one year, have been measured at their nominal amount. Other employee entitlements payable later than one year have been measured at the present value of the estimated future cash outflows to be made for those entitlements.

f)

Subscription & Entrance Fee Income Changes to AASB 15 Revenue from Contracts with Customers came into effect from the 1st January 2019. Members subscriptions are to be recognised as revenue in the year they are applicable too. Subscription year is from April of the current year to March of the following year. Previously any subscription fees invoiced for the quarter of January to March of the following year were recognised as income in the year of initial invoicing.

GLENELG GOLF CLUB INCORPORATED NOTES TO AND FORMING PART OF THE ACCOUNTS FOR THE PERIOD ENDED 31 MARCH 2020 NOTE 1 - STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANT ACCOUNTING POLICIES With the change of financial year to align with the membership year the need for this adjustment is removed and for this and future reports will reflect all income within the year it relates. Entrance Fees recognition - the cumulative effective method of initially applying AASB 15 and AASB 1058 as an adjustment to the openeing balance of equity at 1st January 2019 has been used, and therfore comparative information has not been restated and continues to be presented under AASB 118. Entrance Fee income has been adjusted to be apportioned to the expected average tenure of the membership. This has been applied retrospectively and brought to account through an adjustment to prior accumulated earnings. The impact is a reduction in Retained Earnings of $593,097 which is to be applied to future years, for new Entrance fees received 2019/2020, they have been put to a liability account to be apportioned over future years. A 10 year average has been applied to Provisional, Six Day, Weekday and Company member Entrance Fees. A 5 year average has been applied to Country and Casual member Entrance Fees. Junior and Intermediate Entrance fees are applied at time of invoicing as the spread of these payments is already applied. g)

Income Tax The Club is exempt from Income Tax in accordance with Section 50-5 of the Income Tax Assessment Act, 1997.

h)

Inventories Inventories are measured at the lower of cost and net realisable value.

i)

Course Redevelopment Expenditure

Expenditure incurred on redevelopment of the course is charged to operating profit as incurred. j)

Construction - Work In Progress Construction work in progress is stated at the aggregate of contract costs incurred to date.

k)

Cash and cash equivalents Cash and cash equivalents include cash on hand, deposits held at call with banks, other short-term highly liquid investmentswith original maturities of three months or less, and bank overdrafts. Bank overdrafts are shown within short-term borrowings in current liabilities on the balance sheet.

l)

Comparative Figures When required by Accounting Standards, comparative figures have been adjusted to conform to changes in presentationfor the current financial year. The change to AASB 9 “Financial Instruments” has involved a retrospective change to comparative figures in relation to the shares held in Glenelg Golf Links Ltd, where the shares have been adjusted to be carried at Fair Value through Other Comprehensive income.

m) Leases - Right of Use Assets The Change to AASB 16: “Leases” became applicable from 1 January 2019 for Leases with more than 12 months remaining. This has an impact on the previously noted Operating Leases the Club holds for Golf Carts and Course Equipment. This has involved the initial transaction to bring on a lease liability discounted to the present value of the remaining lease payments at the commencement date. The interest rate used for the calculations is 3.99% which is the interest rate applicable to the newest bank contract entered into during the year. Interest and principal are applied on an incremental basis for the remaining life of the lease. A corresponding Right-of-use Asset is to be recorded in the Balance Sheet based on the value of the lease liability recorded. This Right-of-use Asset is depreciated over the lease term or useful life of the asset, whichever is the shortest.

During the period there were no related party transactions.

NOTE 18 - CONTINGENT LIABILITIES The Club’s objection to the land tax assessment for 2018/19 was upheld and therefore no expense or accrual has been recognised in relation to 2019/20 land tax. The Club understands that Revenue SA intends to review the eligibility for an exemption from land tax at the end of each financial year.

NOTE 19 - AFTER BALANCE DATE EVENTS The Covid 19 pandemic will have a significant impact on the future financial performance of the club, with the impacts beginning in late March and an expectation that they will flow well into the new financial year. On the 13th March 2020 the Federal Government began implementing restrictions on the trading within the Clubhouse; this initially included restriction on patron numbers. From midday on the 23rd March the Federal Governmant enforced a complete Clubhouse closure. On the 24th March all hospitality staff were stood down indefinitely. The initiation of the jobkeeper program has enabled the club to maintain administration and course staff levels during this busy time from a membership renewal and course maintenance perspective, this program also enabled many of our hospitality staff to be brought back to perform adhoc duties. During this closure period the Course and Administration staff have been split into two teams in order to meet social distancing rules and ensure the continuity of member service should one team get effected by the virus. Fortunately, during this time golf for members has been able to continue, albeit with some changes to the rules of golf. Pairs rather than Fours and social golf only. With the course being restricted to members only. At this stage it is not known when we will be able to open the course to visitors and that has and will continue to effect the financial return from green fees and Corporate trade Days. Whilst the Clubhouse is able to begin trade at a reduced capacity from early June, it is unknown when full trade will be able to occur. Whilst many of our function bookings have deferred their functions to a later date, the economic climate and the ability for interstate travel may further dampen the function business recovery. On a positive note, the membership base has supported the club and very few resignations have been recorded to date. The Club made some adjustments to renewals, with the deferral of Catering Levy and the waiver of Administration fees for monthly instalment payments. This has led to a large swing to monthly instalment payments, which will impact intial cash flow injections. Continuous, financial modelling and expenditure review is being performed to ensure the club makes it through this time.

The committee members control the capital of the Club in order to maintain a good debt-to-equity ratio and to ensure that the Club can fund its operations to continue as a going concern. The Club’s debt and capital includes financial liablities, supported by financial assets. There are no externally imposed capital requirements. The committee members effectively manage the Club’s capital by assessing the Club’s financial risks and adjusting its capital structure in response to changes in these risks and in the market. The responses include the management of debt levels. There have been no changes in the strategy adopted by management to control the capital of the Club since the prior year. This strategy is to ensure that there is sufficient cash to meet trade and sundry payables and borrowings.
