SHOWS & EVENTS

Staged or informal, large or small, Washington Revels celebrations are loved by all ages. There are always opportunities for you to join in on the singing and dancing. Come along and revel with us! For upcoming shows and events, please visit our website: https://revelsdc.org/shows-events/

For nearly 40 years, Washington Revels has presented seasonal celebrations throughout the Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. area. We use performance, education, and community engagement to revive, sustain, expand, and celebrate cultural traditions — in music, dance, storytelling, and drama — that bind people together in spirit and joy. Washington Revels strives to illustrate the world’s common humanity, connecting all people in a community that stretches across ethnic, cultural, and religious divisions, and through time. Our diverse programs include The Christmas Revels, spring celebrations, programs for Black History Month and Juneteenth, community sings, programming for families and children, and many more events throughout the year.

The Christmas Revels

A Medieval Tale of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight Matinees and Evenings | December 9-10 and 15-17, 2023 GW Lisner Auditorium, Washington, D.C.

For our 41st holiday production, we travel to Camelot during the age of knights and courtly love, to experience the mystery and magic of the natural world. In a vibrant retelling of the medieval tale of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, a Christmas feast in the court of King Arthur is interrupted when a stranger proposes a daunting challenge—and a mysterious quest—to the monarch and his Knights of the Round Table.

Hail the festive season with carols ancient and familiar; haunting melodies and romantic ballads from the French and English tradition; and a raucous mummers’ play “en Franglais.” The Washington Revels chorus, ages 8 to 80, will be joined by early music specialists and the Washington Revels Brass to portray the lords and ladies of King Arthur’s Camelot and the mysterious Green Court of the Lord and Lady Bercilak, as the tale of Sir Gawain unfolds in an evening of beauty, magic, and celebration!

Tutorials, Events, Group Activities

Photoworks faculty are available to provide one-on-one or group tutorials/classes tailored to the student’s needs. These could include working through a project (exhibit, book, etc.), developing a personal style, introduction to film photography (e.g. to a school group), or a deep dive into a particular topic (photo history, studio technique, alternative process, etc.). Please contact Karen Keating; karenkeating5002@gmail.com to discuss your interests and needs.

Building on its 50 year history at Glen Echo Park, Photoworks is a unique community of photographers drawing from the DMV area. We provide a personalized atmosphere where students develop their photography talents and skills, and seasoned photographers gather to share experience and hone their craft. Professional faculty teach small classes in digital, film, and alternative processes leading each student through the technical and aesthetic approaches to photography in support of their interests and goals.

We also will be adding classes/activities/events to our catalog in response to current events, emerging opportunities, and community requests. These could include movie nights, photography-themed social events, pop-up classes and workshops, demonstrations and more. Please bookmark our events calendar to stay up to date.
