Monday 16 October – Monday 11 December An ideal beginner’s course for those wishing to broaden their critical understanding of contemporary cinema. Current releases are complemented by engaging discussion around a range of topics. The course takes place over eight consecutive Monday evenings, and is comprised of four film screenings and four seminars. Films will be in early evenings but exact times may vary, seminars will take place at 18.30 in GFT project room. Friday 25 – Thursday 31 August An ominous dream convinces 77-year-old Daya Kumar that his end could be near. He tells his son Rajiv, who feels compelled to take leave from his demanding job, drop everything and make the journey with his stubborn father to Mukti Bhawan, a guesthouse devoted to people about to die, in the holy city of Varanasi. As the days go by, Rajiv finds himself caught between his responsibilities to his father and to his boss, while Dayan starts to bloom in the hotel. Preceded by Panorama of Calcutta from the River Ganges (1899, 1m30s), the earliest surviving film of India from the BFI National Archive.
Tuesday 29 August (19.15) 10 years after the events of Terminator and Sarah Connor’s ordeal is only just beginning. Sarah must protect her son John, the future leader of the human resistance, from a new Terminator, sent back in time to eliminate John while he’s still a child. The duo don’t have to face this terrifying threat alone - the human resistance have managed to send them an ally… a warrior from the future ordered to protect the Connors at any cost. Wednesday 13 September (20.15) 45 years after Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour filmed ‘Live At Pompeii’ in the legendary Roman Amphitheatre there, he returned for two spectacular shows. The performances were the first-ever rock concerts for an audience in the stone Roman amphitheatre, and, for two nights only, the 2,600 strong crowd stood exactly where gladiators would have fought in the first century AD. His contribution as a composer, educator and founding member of the artist-run centre Western Front is undoubtedly extensive, but his legacy risks fading from cultural memory since his death from AIDS in 1993.
