Through the integration done by HR, a comprehensive learning platform was established. Have a GOOD Speech!

Designed by HR, the course invites top-tier lecturers to GHQ to give speeches. Outstanding past lecturers include: Lan-Shen, Fang, Grandpa@ Mars, Lucifer Chu, Wen-Hua, Wang and Tze-Cheng, Kuo. The topics ranges from creative thinking, communication skills, leading & management and work philosophy. This is a place where Gamanians may gain experience and creative thinking through lectures and speeches.

Gama Gonna Talk

Apart from inviting guests to give lectures, Gamanians also love sharing their own work experiences and views with fellow colleagues. In the initial Gama Gonna Talk 1.0, directors and supervisors shared their management concepts and work philosophy, later in the Gama Gonna Talk 2.0, Gamanian staff talked about their growths and learning experience. Internal Education Training

Based on the concept of Gama Private School, each year Gamania arranges a series of professional cross-disciplinary courses for Gamanians to enroll in. Last year 5 topics of courses were designed: Problem Solving & Logic Thinking, Work & Time Management, Communication Skills, Briefing Skills and Project Management. The duration of each course varies, some longer course will even take place outside of Gamania.

External Education Training

For the courses that HR has not designed but needed by Gamanians, they need to arrange on their own. Normally these types of courses are more subject-specific like language learning or program software etc. The demand for such courses is not common as cross-disciplinary courses but Gamanians may still apply for such learning opportunity through HR. Once the application is approved, Group will allot subsidy for the tuition.

Induction Training—quickest way to becoming a Gama Warrior Every Gamania newbie needs to go through this learning process—induction training. GHR designed the induction training based on the concept of MMORPG. The content includes: company introduction, legal common sense, information security knowledge, game industry, PDP performance management, family experience camp and new joined staff forum. All new joined staff needs to complete all trainings within 3 months upon reporting to duty. In addition, the Gama tutor and Gama angel systems also help the newbie to get on board smoothly.

External Instructors—Opening One can tell by the various learning channels and strictly selected lecturers that Gamania really places its utmost importance in learning. For exam, “Jave a Good Speech” invites celebrities in the creativity field for speeches; HR hand picked exceptional Management Consultant Company such as Excellent Consulting Company and HIC to conduct internal training. Gamanians may become more and more professional through these learning channels.


Interests and attitudes are not to be taken lightly Observing the culture and trends in GHQ, you can sense that in addition to the pursuit of knowledge, Gamanians also love sharing experience. Gama Gonna Talk 2.0 for example is a learning platform for both the lecturers and audience. Group HR will provide 2 months training for internal instructors, once certified, Gamanians may become candidates of internal instructors. The system provides a stage for Gamanians to speak out their minds and learn and the instructors may also grow from this experience. Regarding this kind of course arrangement Cindianne, manager of HR said, “we don’t’ have a definite topic, but Gamania instructors possess of many hidden talents and experience often bring fellow Gamanians exciting stories.” As one of the instructors of Gama Gonna Talk, Emily Liu, Education Administration, GTW said, “The content of my lectures are mostly work-related, though not difficult, the sharing of work attitude is something very important and worth spreading.” Since end of 2007, HR started building up the Gama Gonna Talk system, as of last year, the system was upgraded to Version 2.0. Inviting colleagues to share their experience and knowledge, Cindianne said, “as long as time is not an issue, almost all Gamanians confirms the invitation upon asking!” We can feel from what she said that in GHQ, everyone is passionate about learning.

GGS ( Gamania Global Seminar ) Sometimes working in Gamania would make you feel as if you’re taking classes in the university. In Gamania, Gamania Global Seminar (GGS) is regularly held for academic exchange. Starting in 2004, the GGS has been held annually to share and exchange information on market analysis, marketing results and IT exchange. But undeniably, GGS is a sharing experience and a place where Gamanians and learn and better themselves.

Professional and Diverse Learning Apart from the "general knowledge course" designed by HR, there are other in-depth training courses in respective department due to attributes and demands from work. More interestingly, various learning sharing sessions are hosted across departments. During these sessions, we can see that Gamanians not only enhance their own professional expertise but also love sharing these knowledge and interests to fellow partners. G!Voice's feature report on these "under-thetable" learning sessions.

Brand Center: Workshop Workshop is a sharing session held by Brand Center every Monday. The topics range from brand, advertising, marketing, strategy, design and work related observations. The past sessions include topics such as " The Fun Theory" design sharing, summary of establishing a company vision by Harvard Business Review, "10th Anniversary Exhibition of Eslite" and "UI Thinking". Though the topics vary, the contents were both exciting and informative. Gamanian newbie, Pan recently joined Brand Center, she said, "I used to work for Mercedes Benz in the States, even they don't have a regular learning and sharing session like this."

Gamania Forum If you want to know the latest trends and knowledge about design and creativity, Gamania Forum is the place to be! Located in SPACE 17 on the 17th floor of GHQ, Gamania Forum hosts the best lecture series inviting international creative minds and toptier designers as guest speakers such as top designer, Stefan Sagmeister and chief designer of C.i.Boys, Richard. Gamania Forum is a major exchange platform for creativity and design.

HR: Thematic Sharing Session HR's thematic sharing session is held at least once a month. You may share anything you'd like with colleagues here such a book you've read recently, or a new concept. There are two objectives for this sharing session: 1. to provide new knowledge and information to other and 2. to practice on the communication skills through briefing. HR colleagues also make full use of this opportunity to enhance their professional knowledge, topics such as "International HR Trend Seminar", "Recruitment Feedback", "How can HR use media more effectively?" are great ways for HR to improve themselves upon.

R&D Subsidiary: Monthly Update The love for sharing and learning does not only limit to Gamania Group, its R&D subsidiaries such as AliBangBang Digital Games, Playcoo, Seedo Games and Red Gate Games, also love to learn and share about game products. Playcoo even hosts trial for new game products to analyze the trend and player's preference. The art and program design units of Seedo Games will each hosts sharing session to share experience on the latest art or program software.

Features Education Administration Division: education training + discussion Education Administration division is a sub-division of Gamania Service Department. They task is to train the new joined staff and turn them into professional customer service personnel with top service quality. The first two weeks of this three week training focuses on professional subjects such as work attitude, system procedure and customer correspondence guide. The last week is actual field practice. In addition to these required courses, EduAdmin also hosts forums and invites senior customer service personnel to share their work experience and thoughts with the new joined staff. Edu-Admin trainer, Emily Liu said, "It is very easy to be weary of doing customer service, therefore these courses aim to buoy their enthusiasm for service and passion for work."

R&D Technology Center: Technology Sharing Conference R&D Technology Center always looks for the most useful and latest technology. They integrate these important tools and use them in the team. Therefore, their sharing conference mainly focuses on the application of the latest technology or tools with occasional sessions on problem/ glitches solving of online game. Gilbert Hsieh, Director of R&D Technology Center said, "We strive to understand every issue thoroughly before we start the sharing session to achieve best result, because what we discuss are mostly the latest technology, the sharing sessions are held from time to time." In addition, the center also sends out delegation to attend Game Developers Conference (GDC) annually to bring back the latest information to the team through exchange with international technicians.

Game Community Dept.: Monthly Update Game Community's monthly update usually takes place on the second week of every month. The content includes common interests and hobbies: Basic Cycling, Basic Surfing Teaching, Toy Collection Sharing and Introduction on Digital Camera, even the Types of Guppy was selected as the topic for the sharing. The variety and the depth of such sharing is truly impressive which showcases Gamanians' love for having fun and that fun encompasses all subjects imaginable. Wei Chang, 2nd Division of Game Community Department said, "This kind of sharing is very interesting. You get to know what your colleagues are into and it's a great way to bond. It is also very helpful in understanding the trends and expending horizon."

Gamania Clubs: Fun, Play and Hobby Cultivation Gamania encourages interest cultivation and learning, you can tell from how supportive it is to clubs. In the past there has been basketball club, wool felt club, martial art club, dance club, figurine club, yoga club, magic club etc in Gamania. Even though at the moment, there are just dance club and yoga club left, as long as there is someone initiates and someone participates, Gamania will give 100% support.

Gamania's Learning Spaces Although a large scale library has not been established, there are many other learning spaces located on different floors in GHQ. In addition to the more well-known space such as the Garden Court, what are the other learning spaces that you haven't discovered? Now take a ride with G!Voice and find out!

18F 1804 1804 is a small conference room located on the 18th floor and also the micro-library of Brand Center. The room is filled with all kinds of books including identification, space, product packing, design magazines etc. The furniture such as sofa, teapoy and lamp in room 1804 is also different from other conference rooms, Ahbin, director of Brand Center, collected all the furniture and made them into a cozy little brainstorming space.

17F SPACE 17 Speaking of the learning holy ground, one cannot but mention SPACE 17 located on the 17th floor of Gama island. SPACE 17 is an exhibition space open for all Gamanians to show their creativity and rhapsody. SPACE 17 not only hosts various exhibitions and activities but also invites experts of respective field to give speeches in Gamania Forum. It is a place that enriches and cultivates Gamanians ’ minds and a place to connect ideas.

17F Game Book Wall Walking into BU1 located on the 10th floor, the first thing you'd see is the ceiling-high book shelves that filled with game books. In addition to those game-related magazines, you may also see the most important product of BU1 — "Lineage" taken up much of the space. There are strategy handbooks, pertinent game packages and other spin-off products. Some BU colleagues even recommended a few comic books that they think may inspire the game. All colleagues are welcomed here; all you need to do is to return the books after reading. In this wall of books, you may find relevant knowledge about games and ideas that inspired the game. This place has clearly become the most important learning holy ground for BU1.

Three key points for creating a learning space: 1.Reference books There is a saying that goes, "Don't look for an answer in front of the desk and don't think you don’ t need books after you have the internet because there is a lot of professional knowledge you can't find on Google." The most essential equipment for a learning place is books, whether they are donated or bought, put them on the shelves and they will surely become the most important tools for work in the future.

2.Comfortable Furniture The spatial environment is a very important element when creating an ideal place for creative thinking. People tend to close up their right brain when they are nervous or feel restrained thus making it harder to be creative. On the other hand, ideas are usually created out of the blue when you are chatting with friends in a relaxing place. You need a comfortable place to read or brainstorm. A set of couch and sofa would be perfect for the setting but even without those, you can still sit on the ground with your pals and start having a fierce debate over an idea or a thought.

3.Department Feature To keep an upbeat mood during work and increasing creativity, each Gamanian ’ s desk is decorated in a manner that conveys distinct p e r s o n a l s t y l e . S i m i l a r l y, t h e learning place of each department also has its “unique style” written all over the place: from the books on the shelves, types of furniture and layout to the decorations on the wall, all of which are done specifically for the department to create an atmosphere that encourages brainstorming.

Don't Look for an Answer in Front of the Desk Gamania provides a wonderful learning atmosphere and comprehensive learning system for Gamanians to enjoy the work. In addition, Gamania emphasizes on enlightenment of the mind advocating people “not to look for an answer in front of the desk�. Gamanian also encourages staff to go out and expand horizon, to think through personal experience and to seek new knowledge through thinking and exploring.

EX.1 Cycling Around the Island The trend to cycle around the island was actually brought up by Albert who originally just wanted to change a mood, challenged himself and channeled this positive energy to work. Little did he know that his initiative was widely received in Gamania and many more colleagues followed suit. Our BU colleagues are among the avid fans of cycling. The arduous challenge just once again proved the motto of BU1, "We fear nothing!" Albert has accomplished the challenge of cycle several times

Gamania is a company that values culture greatly. To promote Gamania culture and make it more diversified, Gamania also visits other brands to understand the essence their brand cultures and stories behind their success. For example, the visit to "Coca-Cola Museum" , we've come to learn how a world renowned brand works its charm and its story or taking our overseas business partners to visit the traditional tilling, festivities and tribal experience of Taiwanese aboriginal culture.

Creating a Global Learning Organization Feature Interview with Linus, Director of HR Gamania loves learning so it can constantly accumulate energy. 2010 is a very important year for the globalization of Gamania Group. We must have a greater, more insightful vision towards talent cultivation and knowledge management during such expansion. Facing the coming challenge, what would Gamania Group prepare and do? What knowledge base needs to be established? G!Voice invited Linus Chang, Director of HR for a feature interview. He will be telling all Gamanians what our next learning milestone is.

Compared to other companies in the field, Gamania is the leading company in taking learning initiatives. In terms of corporate culture, Gamanians have acquired the consensus in "Encourage learning, sharing learning experience and on-going learning"; in terms of platform system, there are various learning channels in respective department and Group. The reason behind the building of such exceptional learning environment, Linus said, "The support from the Group and Gamanians open attitude towards learning are the main reasons." Gamania embraces and focuses on the idea of "learning", 24hr a day and 7 days a week, whether it's something professional like striving for excellence or something private like sharing fun things in life. Be it the integrated internal courses provided by HR, knowledge sharing among departments, annual GGS (Gamania Global Seminar) or regular club gathering and sharing, learning is everywhere in Gamania.

Establish Knowledge Management System Facing the global expansion Gamania Group plans to take on, Gamania is required to possess more professional knowledge in the field. What do these resources come from? Linus said, "This is by far HR's biggest challenge! And it is precisely because Gamania is the leading company in the digital entertainment industry. If we don't get it, it'd be hard to find someone else that does, let alone having them over to teach us something new. Therefore, HR’s approach for this year is to: greatly increase the proportion of internal instructor. Through internal learning, we may enhance Gamanians' overall professional knowledge and quality level." Linus also wishes to establish "E-Learning" scheme which provides systematic knowledge management to help facilitate many SOPs to be digitalized and become the standard courses. "E-Learning has been carried out by HR right now. We hope that in the future, this knowledge base will be complete and comprehensive, providing Gamanians more flexible time to do learning management." In addition, he thinks that E-Learning is beneficial to HR building talent pool system and determining the right people for future job promotion. HR will have a better idea on which people possess of adequate expertise to taken on crucial positions.

Human Resource vs. Global Thinking As Gamania Group getting more globalized starting this year, HR will loosen the restriction on the application qualification of language learning. "We used to be fairly strict on qualification review, but starting this year we will be loosening restrictions on such qualification. We are still going over the details and the official implementation will be announced around 2nd quarter." When asked about the other ways or thoughts of future organization learning, Linus said, "The long term objective of HR is to share Gamania to be the best learning organization. Though Taiwan headquarter has established a respectable learning system and environment, HR should work even harder on overseas Gamania branches." At the end Linus added that, "Everyone must have encountered something that he/she doesn't understand in life. But we're willing to learn and we know how to learn. To be able to establish a corporate culture based on this rationale is the main reason that Gamania can continue to grow."

I can barely remember the first time I played the Sims. All these years, the game platform has progressed from PC to iPhone application. This popular game has released its third version – The Sims 3. Not only has the quality improved, but the market strategy has changed based on the actual life of the players. Internet has surely become the major role of communication so let's take a look at how it works. In addition to keeping the pervious media commercials, Sims 3 has added three online interactive tools, SimFriend, SimSocial, and SinSidekick as their prelaunch activities which attracted great volume of people far from its existing players. The key feature of the Sims is, “Different characters and events will result in unlimited outcomes.” These three tools interact with one other and repeatedly passing on such information through a

relaxing and interactive process. SimFriend targets mainly at the existing players which consists of 120 characters with different personalities for selection. The characters in the game will communicate with the player by mails and request the player to solve some problems for them. There are many tasks such as “ You have solved 10 crises” or task that requests you to find the character a Mr./Ms. Right. Yet, these citizens may not always follow your

instructions, you have to get to know them and win their trust at first. The other one is the flash game – Simsocial, which is the light version of Sims and is available on Facebook. The target group is wider and you don’t have to be a member or a fan before joining in. However, this application is more like a tutorial guide. The graphic is dull and the progress of game is shown through large amount of text which is quite different from the original game and less attractive. SimSidekick is relative more interesting! It is an application that simulates the personalities of Sims. It will make different reactions according to the attributes of the website and different characters you select, such as a thief or chef. For example, a chef will cheer when you log on Facebook while the thief will boo you. “You gotta surf the internet even though

All these works can be uploaded to the official website and Youtube! The other feature of the Sims is Simlish, the official language in Sims. Some artists or players even modify their MV to dual-language version – English and Simlish. Interested? Just key in Simlish on Youtube website and you can find them. GHQ is known for hosting fantastic year-end parties and this year Orange House further challenged Gamanians' limit. Last year's "Flashdance-Gama Way" featuring nightclub style was succeeded by this year's "Extreme-Tai Style". Be it Tai-Ke, Nalakuvara1, worship team, country girls, tea-plucking women, pole dancers or betel nut girls, these are all indispensable role-play characters in this year's party. In addition to the feast, the show and the lucky draw, there was an important mission—to announce the new self-produced game video for 2010. This classified, never-before-seen video stirred up the crowd to a new high, over 1,000 Gamanians shouting with glee, excited to witness this glorious moment. 《HERO:108》Reissue Version The much anticipated animation, HERO: 18 will be launched in Europe and the U.S this year. The animations in both markets tend to present themselves as TV series where each episode has a sub-story line. Subsequently HERO: 18 adjusted the focus and revolved the plots around the inception of “Liang Mountain”. However, as early as in 2004, creative center in GHQ had launched three mini episodes of HERO: 18, featuring stories of the coming of Liang Mountain which varies from the version to be launched this year. The story that stems from the traditional Chinese literature classic, The Marshes of Mount Liang, is filled with quirky rhapsody with a unique visual ambience. The initial version can be seen as the prequel of the animation series. To give Gamanians a chance of collecting the original comics of HERO: 18, G!Voice collaborated with creative center to launch a series of reissue version starting from this issue.
