At the outset a warm welcome to all our new students! You have just begun a new and exciting chapter in your lives. I encourage you to make the most of what the university has to offer. You all are now a part of a family which places great importance on academic excellence and service to the society.

Now is also the time for our new students to embrace a wider, richer, more international and multicultural world view – because regardless of where you are from, you all share a common destiny of a successful future. Embrace differences and be open to them, stay true to what is right, and prepare yourself to be a global citizen.

Global citizenship means feeling a sense of responsibility for the impact that your choices will have on others – locally, and across boundaries of nation, race, and religion. It means learning about other cultures and taking up new languages. It means becoming independent-thinking, culturally-aware individuals who are prepared to make a difference in the world. I hope you will be generous in sharing your home cultures with your classmates, and that your time with us at Galgotias will be intellectually and culturally rewarding. The future awaiting you will be more internationalized than for any previous generation. As it is, we already have a culturally diverse student population at Galgotias University. And we definitely intend to increase the number of international students further.

We are all geared up to provide you an innovative teaching and learning environment that creates new academic bases and nurtures outstanding graduates. Our focus is on studentcentered approaches to teaching and learning that is geared towards ensuring that you emerge not only with high level of communication and problem solving skills, flexibility to adapt to new situations and the ability to become future leaders in your chosen fields, but with sensitivity to societal issues. We are putting emphasis on producing graduates with hands-on approach to science, engineering and technology and industry- based learning experience.

We all endeavor to encourage you to develop ethically, intellectually, socially, and physically.

For this, engagement with learning is essential, because it is engagement that leads to sustained interaction and practice. Coaching, instruction, and feedback become critical to ensure that you develop good habits and increase your proficiency. Increased competence typically leads to motivation to engage further.

I urge you to aim high, dig deep, increase general knowledge, and broaden experience during your studies. Try moving your goal post outside your comfort zone. Do not be content with just the mediocre. Do not settle for second best. Ask questions until you truly understand the subjects. Do not be afraid to expose your inability or even stupidity. Do not be afraid to fail but do not get bogged down with failures. We learn wisdom from our failures more than from our successes.

I am confident that these activities will advance your success, inspire you to make life-long positive contributions to society and promote an inclusive environment. You are among the best young men and women we have in the country. So get prepared and make the most of it.

28th September witnessed our Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ashok Saxena, addressing the faculty members of the Galgotias University for a quick session on essentials that go into the making a good faculty member. The four pointer agenda talked about: 1.

A Good class room teacher who is always well-prepared A friend and a counsellor to the students A good researcher and a scholar A good campus citizen and a good colleague

Prof. Saxena focussed on the first two important points of the four points that define a good teacher. A good teacher is one who is always prepared with what is to be taught in the class and also takes care that the class does not become monotonous with only the subject matter. Lively anecdotes, stories, jokes suiting the environment can be related to the students to bring them back into the loop and keep them interested throughout.

Sticking to the curriculum and not digressing from the topic except when the information is really useful and providing adequate study materials beyond the textbooks through handouts or websites addresses which will be helpful to the students make one a concerned teacher. A good teacher is also the one who is unbiased in the assessment of his students. He should know to keep personal feelings and obligations separate and adhere only to his professional values. An understanding of his class through proper eye-contact and movement is imperative as it gives him a hold over his class.

Moving on to the second point he emphasised that a good teacher is also a good human being and treats students as younger brothers/sisters; in other words, as people who need our love and support and assurance of our faith in their abilities. We should never make comparisons and understand that students differ in their brilliance and abilities but each one can blossom if guided with care and concern. A good teacher gains respect by giving it. As it goes Respect is earned not demanded, therefore, teachers who respect the individuality of students and treats them with the respect deserved by any individual, command respect in turn by the students. 

Guest Lecture by Prof. Karmeshu, JNU

14-09-2012 Friday, Department of Computer Science and Engineering organized a guest lecture on ‘Information Theory’. The lecture was delivered by one of the most eminent scientist in systems modeling, Professor Karmeshu.

He is presently Dean of School of Computer and Systems Sciences at Jawaharlal Nehru University. He is a standing committee member of National Mission of Education through ICT. He is President of Indian Society of Mathematical Modeling and Simulation. He has extensively contributed to the area of stochastic modeling and simulation of Innovation-Diffusion, Computational Neuroscience and Performance Modeling of Communication Networks. For his outstanding contributions to mathematical modeling, he was awarded Dr. C.M. Jacob Gold Medal of Systems Society of India in 1990 and the most prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award for the year 1993.

The objective behind the event was to motivate M.Tech students and the faculty members towards the quality research in different engineering domains. The Organizing committee of the event consisted of Dr. Avadhesh Ku-

mar,Dean of Planning and Chief Proctor, Mr. Prabhat Kumar Yadav, Assistant Professor CSE, Mr. Sudheer Kumar Sharma, Assistant Professor CSE. In the audience Prof. Sham Tickoo, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University, and Dr. D.K. Jha, Dean of School of Engineering, were present along with the faculty members and M.Tech students.

In the lecture Prof. Karmeshu mainly focused on the concepts of Probability theory and Information theory. He emphasized on the fact that in general people think that the probability of occurrence of any event is the ratio of number of favorable event by total number of event but the important axioms of probability theory which is somehow missed from the books is that all the event should be equally likely then only one can defines probability as a ratio of favorable by total number of event. Then he discussed the contribution of Claude Shannon who is also known as father of Information theory. Shannon obtains the information gain due to the occurrence of any event in terms of probability of the event and is given by negative of logarithmic of probability of the event and this result revolutionizes the whole area of communication systems. According to him this result is as powerful as general theory of relativity. He shared experience of his research work being plagiarized by one British Professor, Dr. D. D. Kouvatsos. Plagiarism is the biggest crime in academics it is basically the murder of the research. He urged the students never to involve in such type of practice as it will spoil your whole academic career. The lecture was truly motivating and informative as far as research is concerned.

At the end Dean of Planning and Chief Proctor Dr. Avadhesh Kumar gave sincere regards to Prof. Karmeshu on behalf of Galgotias University for such a motivating and informative lecture to M.Tech student who are at the first step of their research life.

Installation Ceremony of the Rotaract Club The Installation Ceremony of the Rotaract Club in Galgotias University sponsored by Rotary International Delhi South End took place on 21st September 2012 followed by the Inauguration event of the Blood Donation Camp at Campus I and II of Galgotias University.

Where in, the respected Chief Guest Rotarian Mr. Lovy Khosla, President Rotary Club, Rotarian Mr. Ajay Narain, Rotarian Mr. Rajan Suri, Director GBS Dr. Renu Luthra, Director GCET Dr. R.Sundresan and Rotarian Mr. Manoj Goyal, Rotarian Mr Bahl and other guests were welcomed by presenting them bouquets.

The event started with a mesmerizing Saraswati Vandana performed by our rotaractors and the Lighting of the Lamp

by Chief Guests.

Which was then followed by an ear-pleasing music piece presented by our rotaractors in honor of the chief guest and the other dignitaries.

Further to share the experiences and report of activities of the year gone by i.e., 2011-2012, an informative speech was delivered on behalf of the Outgoing Secretary of Rotaract Club, Mr. Chinmay Joshi.

Finally, the time came when the new Rotaract team of Galgotias University were to be pinned and assigned posts for the upcoming year 2012-2013. Rotary dignitaries, Mr. Ajay Narain, Mr. Rajan Suri, Dr. Renu Luthra, Mr. R.Sundresan, Chief Guest, Mr.Lovy Khosla and Mr. Manoj Goyal were requested to do the honors.

Workshop on IBM DB2

This event was then followed by handing over of the Award for the Best Rotaractors to Mr. Chinmay Joshi and Mr Apoorv Kumar Khare. An acceptance speech by the President Rotaract club and introduction of the new team of office bearers was done followed by the club announcements by the Secretary Rotaract Club.

The event successfully ended with the speech of the chief Guest, Mr. Lovy Khosla in which he thanked fellow members for their dedication towards the club and a formal vote of thanks by Mrs. Vinnie Mathur by presenting mementos to the chief guest.

The whole event ended with a national anthem beautifully sung by all the Rotarians and Rotractors.

A huge response was received by the donors at blood donation camp with the collection of about 300 units of blood.

So, in the nutshell Rotoract club proved once again that “Humanity Has No Boundaries”. Our sincere thanks to Rotarian Rahul Mehra for his constant support and guidance.

In order to enhance employability and make students Industry ready, a 3-day IBM DB2 9 workshop was organized at the campus of Galgotias University from 18th to 20th October. 80 students from MCA and M.Tech along with 5 faculty members participated in the workshop. The workshop taught relational database concepts while also provided students with critical, hands-on database skills on IBM’s DB2. Shortly certification will also be conducted and successful students will be identified as IBM Certified Database Associate. Conduction of IBM DB2 workshop was a first step in the direction of setting up IBM Software Centre of Excellence (CoE) at Galgotias University.

Galgotias students once again have managed F1 operations – this time as Racing Marshals in India’s biggest Motor Racing Sporting Event. 70 students of Galgotias University went through a rigorous training to get selected as racing marshals. Marshals are typically F1’s unsung heroes; they are the people who put themselves on the line to ensure the safety of the drivers. Galgotians worked in pit and paddock areas, assembly areas and race control, doing everything to see the event runs efficiently. It was a fabulous experience for students to become part of the event. Everyone was highly delighted and thankful for being Galgotians as by virtue of this they have been given this opportunity to not just manage F1 operations but also watch their favorite drivers do battle on the track very closely.

FORMULA 1 :A REMARKABLE EXPERIENCE

Later on we received a confirmation mail that we were selected as marshals. On knowing this we realized that a different exposure was knocking our door, starting on 22nd till 28th Octo-

ber 2012. A regular training from morning 6 o’clock departing from campus 1 till 7 o’clock in evening. A new learning took place at BUDDH INTERNATIONAL CIRCUIT. Walking on the track made me enthusiastic and I felt like riding one of the Formula 1 car.

We were eagerly waiting for the final race. “ I just wanted to wave a flag or to be an intervention marshal on the track.”

Those shouts and regular mails of chief Officer Mr. Sudev Brar trained us how to do the team work, running fast towards the pit lane after all the races just to get the autograph of every racer, the cheer for the KARTHIKEYAN in front of “HRT F1 TEAM” section just to meet once, standing infront of exit gate just to get one glimpse of SCHUMACHER and guess what got a autograph got a click with him. What else would you ask when SEBASTIAN VETTEL walking infront of you just checking out the track stopping him for the clicks. And the final race began, the sound of starting the engine, those burning tires excited the whole environment. 60 laps*5.125km which makes the total distance of 307.249km and all of the above the top speed of 315 kmph made my whole day remarkable.

At the end 2012 AIRTEL GRAND PRIX podium presentation started, the three drivers were awarded the trophies Vettel, Alonso, Webber and the whole event ended with the opening of champagne and the round of celebrations.

The Examination System at GU With the addition of several new faculty members in the Galgotias University family, it became imperative to apprise them of the, attendance requirement, examination system and the marking structure for the students followed here in GU. Dr. D.K. Jha, Dean, executed this through a lecture meant to acquaint the faculty members with these particulars before the commencement of CAT I. During on of the weekly FDP sessions held on every Fridays, Dr. Jha addressed the faculty members and spoke about the attendance criteria, examination and grading pattern.

The attendance criteria was made clear emphasising that 100% attendance was expected from the students, however, a minimum of 75% will be acceptable with documented proofs explaining their absence from the university. Students having less than 75% will not be allowed to take the CAT/SEE (as will the case be).

Dr. Jha explained the grading system of the theory and Lab exams. He told the audience about the concept of HOT questions which literally translate into High Order Thinking Questions and why they were needed in the question paper. He also threw light on the grading system and the relative grading system followed at GU and made it clear that there is no scheme of re-examination, be it CAT or SEE for the students who fail to turn up during the scheduled exam.

Seriously, on hearing this initially I didn’t even know what a marshal has to do. Gradually we went through a couple of training sessions. I got too excited during these sessions and developed an interest for FORMULA 1.

Rules regarding malpractice, seating arrangements, absentee students, answer sheet entries etc. were also patiently explained by Dr. Jha. This lecture ensured that the new members of the GU teaching fraternity are aware of the policies of the exam cell and with their work contribute to the smooth functioning of the university.

Independence day is the day when we pay homage to our Great National Leaders and Heroic Freedom Fighters. The 65th anniversary of our Independence was celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm in Galgotias University.

On 13 August,students of Campus I and II reverberated the atmosphere by their talents. Literary club organized some literary activities like poem recitation and speech competition.

An energetic and mesmerizing dance performance was given by Studio-D the dance club. Kalakriti, the drama club put forth an act depicting the plight of common man against corrupt politicians. The atrium of Campus II was filled by the golden melody Sarfaroshi Ki Tamanna and the Music club held the audience spellbound by the sweet notes of Maa Tujhe Salaam and Hum Honge Kamyab. On 15 August,the official proceedings began with the hoisting of the national flag by Dr. Sundresan along with Dr. Luthra and Dr. Jha . Sweets were distributed to everyone .It was followed by National Anthem sung by everyone present. The voices of students filled with pride, patriotism and nationalism created magic in the atmosphere.

At the end everyone took part in the bright and exciting kite flying competition which was organised as a surprise!!!!!

CEO Mr.Dhruv Galgotia was invited as Guest of Honour on 11th August'12 at Great India Place Mall Noida and Worlds Of Wonder to plant a tree in his name at their premises as a part of their Independence Day Celebrations-STRINGS'12.

Linux Workshop

by Linux Users Group Noida

NOIDA Linux User Group organised a workshop on ‘Linux’ at Galgotias University on 31 August 2012. The workshop aimed at educating students about Linux, its usage and other key points about the world’s biggest open source Operating System.

Noida Linux User Group encourages Linux Activism in and around the city of Noida.

They plan to discuss about things related to the Linux platform and encourage people to embrace Linux as a free alternative.

“If you're a Linux enthusiast in or around Noida or a newbie who wants to give it a try, then Linux User Group is the right place to come.” said Arush Salil, member of the LUG, who conducted the workshop.

The workshop was a great success and hundreds of Galgotians took part in it. The students showed great enthusiasm and took great interest. The speaker explained the various intricacies related with the operating system with great expertise and quality. The students of B.Tech Computer Science were a highlight among all and took active part in discussions and other interactions. The 90 minute session ended with students thanking the speaker. NOIDA Linux User Group declared their delight on conducting their first successful workshop in Galgotias University and promised for more such activities in the future.

I-Robots: Workshop A two day workshop was organised on I-robots by the Galgotias University Enthiraan Club. Robosapiens in association with IIT-D conducted the workshop in which the students were taught about the making and working of robots.

Thirteen groups of four students each were formed and they worked on the coding and construction of the robot which can follow a path and detect any obstruction with the help of sensing devices.

On the second day, competition was held to test the students understanding in designing the robots so that they can bring laurels to our university in the main event i.e Robo Tryst 2013 at IIT-D in march 2013.All the teams fight hard but only three teams were managed to grab the top spots.

A team of seven student co-ordinators managed the whole event with their utmost sincerety and dedication as the result of which the event was well appreciated by the students and the concerned authorities.

NIF SOUVENIR LAUNCH BY DR. KIRAN BEDI An apostle of justice and integrity, an epitomy of righteousness , burning brightly like a candle and enlightening the minds of the citizens of the country. A women of substance, a woman beyond compare. Dr. Kiran Bedi is one such name that comes to the mind. Galgotias University got the honour of witnessing the aura of this great personality when she graced the campus for the souvenir launch of her NGO, “The Navjyoti India Foundation” (NIF).

Dr. Kiran Bedi (born 9 June 1949) is an Indian social activist and a retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. She joined the police service in 1972 and became the first woman officer in the IPS. She held the post of Director General at the Bureau of Police Research and Development before she voluntarily retired from the IPS in December 2007.

She is one of the prominent members of the India Against Corruption (IAC) along with Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal. IAC has been actively protesting against corruption and is urging the government of India to enact a strong Lokpal Bill.

Kiran Bedi along with 17 other police officers set up Navjyoti India Foundation (NIF) in 1987,NIF started with a de-addiction and rehabilitation initiative for the drug addicts and now the organization has expanded to other social issue like illiteracy and women empowerment. In 1994 Bedi setup India Vision Foundation which works in field of police reforms, prison reforms, women empowerment and rural and community development. Her efforts have won national and international recognition, and her organizations were awarded the "Serge Soitiroff Memorial Award" for drug abuse prevention by the United Nations.

Dr. Kiran Bedi was then invited on stage to address the gathering which was eagerly waiting for the same. She shared her experiences as the first women IPS officer, the controversies that had her name and the criticism she had to face. Talking about dealing with all of this, she said , ‘Sometimes the road seems long , my energy is spent .

Then lord I think of you and I am given strength’. She motivated the students to volunteer for the activities organized by her Foundation. Her childhood friend Ms. Shobha Mehta also narrated her childhood and teenage days with Dr. Kiran ,especially at the tennis courts.

She has also founded two NGOs in India: the Navjyoti Delhi Police Foundation for welfare and preventative policing in 1988 which was later renamed as the Navjyoti India Next in the array was the souvenir launch which was done by Foundation in 2007, and the India Vision Foundation for pris- Dr. Kiran Bedi and her team along with Mr. Dhruv Galgotia. Blood Donation Camp by Rotaract Club On 21 September 2012, Rotaract Club organized Blood Donation Camp at Galgotias University to raise awareness of the need for safe blood.

Every Blood Donor is a Hero The theme of the campaign, “Every blood donor is a hero”, focuses on the idea that every one of us can become a hero by giving blood. While recognizing the silent and unsung heroes who save lives every day through their blood donations, the theme also strongly encourages more to donate blood voluntarily and regularly.

Awareness Week “Every blood donor is a hero” considering it to be the vision for the Awareness week by Rotaract Club, we, the rotaractors took up the initiatives to spread awareness amongst everyone by conducting awareness programs. The rotaract team of Galgotias did splendid job by creating awareness among people.

The objectives of this campaign are to: • Thank and reinforce the self-esteem of those who give blood so they continue to do so regularly; • Inspire those who do not give blood but are in good health to start donating blood;



Encourage blood service staff to recognize blood donors for their “heroic” act each and every time they donate blood; and



Persuade ministries of health to show their appreciation of blood donors and provide adequate resources to move towards 100% voluntary unpaid blood donation’



Everyday heroes respond to an immediate need for blood for transfusion, whatever the conditions, even when it may be inconvenient, putting the needs of others above their own. Voluntary blood donors come from all walks of life, all regions, backgrounds, religions and ages.

By choosing to donate blood of their own free will, without any payment; these individuals perform a “heroic” act, a gesture of human solidarity with the power to save lives. Some of them do so many times over several decades. The theme also resonates widely in relation to other everyday “heroes” – such as fire fighters, policemen, rescue workers, civic leaders, and “champions” of social causes and community improvement.

More than 250 people donated blood voluntarily to mark the camp; refreshment & certificate of appreciation were distributed.

The Music Club organized the performance for I-Day on 13th August. The club members along with other students gathered in the arena of block-A during break and performed some of the patriotic songs and made the environment all around very ready for the very special day.

Such performance under the tri-color was enough to make people realize about the importance and legacy of the Independence Day.

In the Orientation week also Music Club performed on a grand scale. Many of the performances were done by Music Club and they really helped the freshers to know what they might actually be part of if they get in this club.

The Music Club - Crescendo organized its first auditions for the first year students on 21st September. The audition was aimed to get new members in one of most popular clubs around campus. Though many students of second year came along, those were the freshers who actually made the audition grand. All were filled with that unique zeal and enthusiasm to get in the club and to get the feeling of being true Galgotian. During this quest for the new talent there were many hilarious instances, due to which this event was its highest level of entertainment. The Dance Club – Studio-D The Dance Club often goes hand-in-hand with the Music Club. The Dance Club also performed in the I-Day Celebration.

In the grand orientation week of Galgotias Studio-D was ready to burn the floor. Those were the head coordinators of the club, Mayank Srivastava and Robin Singh Negi along with the team who stunned the viewers with their moves.

Certainly the freshers enjoyed it to the core.

On 21st September Studio-D also organized the first audition for this semester. And once again those were the freshers who were in all mood to let their seniors know that they are not much behind their seniors when it comes to show the dancing talent.

If there is one club of which everyone waits the most is definitely the Fashion Club. It is the Fashion Club that brings the glamour to the Galgotias.

The Fashion Club had their great chances on stage in the Orientation Week.

The Fashion Club also hosted the auditions for this session on 21st of September and they definitely got some very young and energetic talent in their team.

Sports Events The two day sports event fully rocked the college atmosphere and ignited the sportsman spirit of the participants and auditions.

The event included games like volleyball, basketball, carom, chess & Table Tennis.

Prof. Balaji Rajagopalan , Pro Vice Chancellor , GU inaugurated the event by servicing the volleyball & passing the basketball.

The event was successfully conducted under the supervision of Mr. Aditya Gautam.

Many students came forward for showing their immense talent in their respective games.

VOLLEYBALL A total of 8 teams registered for volleyball.

The teams were CS-I , EC Tigers ,CS Killers , Spykars , MKB , Rathi Rockers , Lions Club , Apocalypse.

In the league matches EC tigers ( v/s CS-I ) , CS Killers (v/s Spykars) , MKB (v/s Apocalypse) , Lions Club (v/s Rathi Rockers ) succesfully made their way to the semis.

In the semis CS Killers & MKB grabbed their position in the finals by defeating EC Tigers & Lions Club respectivly.

Now, it was the time for the finals. It was exciting to watch the match between freshers & seniors, i.e CS Killers v/s MKB .More surprisingly the freshers made it. Yes, the CS Killers won the finals. The seniors appreciated the juniors and congratulated them for the way they played. Out of the three sets, first two sets were taken away by CS Killers by 25-17 & 25-19 respectively.

The Killers are: Manoj (c) , Mridul , Sumit , Kishore , Mohit , Ravi , Utkarsh , Rohan & Binoy.

The winning team, CS Killers won the winning trophy & a cash prize of Rs. 500. More importantly they won the hearts by showing their game.

TABLE TENNIS Table tennis attracted the maximum number of players. 75 students took part in the competition.

Mayank Singh, coordinator of the Table Tennis club along with the other members of the club organised the tournament with great zeal and effort. The tournament which continued for two days was fun to witness. It attracted great audience and entertained many.

BASKETBALL Basketball attracted 5 teams , ME-1 ,ME-2 ,EC-1,EC-2,CS-1.

Match 1 was between CS-1 & ME-2 in which ME-2 easily won the match. In match 2 & 3 ME-1 defeated EC-1 & EC-3 respectively, making their way to the finals. Again the final match was between our freshers & seniors. This match was bit controversial from freshers eye. ME-2 won the nail biting match from a single point. The final score was 34:33. Suraj of ME-2 was the highest scorer. He made 28 baskets & led his team towards victory.

ME-2, the winners won the trophy & cash prize of Rs.500.

The winning players are: Suraj (c), Dheeraj , Prashant , Nikhil ,Mohit , Puneet ,Pulkit & Gaurav.

CAROM The game of the carom had 6 competitors Neeraj , Vishnu , Surbhi , Ajay , Gutam & Mayank.

Though carom didn’t attract many players but matches were very interesting. Surbhi (batch 1, EC 1st year) & Gautam (batch 2, EC 2nd year ) reached the finals defeating the rest. The final match was surprising and shocking as the only girl among the participants grabbed the winning spot. She played tremendously well & won the first position. She received the winning medal & cash prize of Rs.250.

CHESS Chess is considered to be a mind game and the students of Galgotias University participated in this game with great vivacity. About 40 students took part in the competition. The matches were intense. A few players grabbed huge attention and played like champions. Nikhil Anand, Naman Agrawal and Dilnawaz Warsi being the best of them. The fierce battles of the sixteen pieces went on for several hours. Nikhil Anand and Dilnawaz Warsi made into the finals of the tournament.

This program initiated by IBM’s Career Education for Business Transformation (CEBT) focuses on the major areas of business transformation in which software plays a critical role. The unique feature of the program is a plan to set up an IBM Business Analytics Lab within our premises where IBM will provide relevant software and training to address the increasing need for multi-disciplinary skills for a global workforce. The trainer Ms. Vijaya informed the participants of the objectives of this exam and trained them in teaching the Preliminary and Vantage levels, which are generally required by students from the under-graduate to the post-graduate level. The faculty members thus trained are equipped well to pass on this learning to their students who wish to take on the ESOL examination and have their communication skills certified by the Cambridge University.

It was generally agreed by all the participants that the program left them enriched and taught them new techniques to build and maintain students’ interest and facilitate learning along with fun.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO MOTHER DAIRY PLANT The second semester MBA students were taken to -the milk and dairy giant, “Mother Dairy” for their Industrial Visit on 11th august , 2012. Mother Dairy was established in the year 1974 as a result of “operation flood”. The objective of the organization is “to serve the farmers and the consumers”.

80% of the earnings of the organization goes to the farmers who provides them with the essential raw material-milk.

Mother Dairy is well known for its milk and milk products like ice creams, mishti dohi, and kheer. It covers a wide share of market in Delhi and Delhi-NCR. Mother Dairy’s average sales of milk are 20 lakh ltr per day, which it efficiently distributes through its huge container vans. The marketing and distribution is done through its outlets and franchisees all over the city. The most interesting and innovative way of distribution adopted by them is through -wending machines. One can get as much quantity of milk just by dropping a coin in the wending machine.

These machines have been set up in its outlets and milk is made available to these outlets by the vans every day.

The milk undergoes 4 processing techniques before it reaches the consumers, which involves- Clarification, Homogenization, Standardization, and Pasteurization.The company started producing ice creams in the year 1994 and has a lot of takers for its varied flavors. It gives a tough competition to other brands like amul and kwality walls.

Coming to mother dairy and not getting ice creams was least expected, eventually all the students were given vanilla flavored milk and ice creams, which concluded our trip on a sweet note.

ADMISSIONS After schooling, every aspirant tries to seek admission in the best college or university. They look for a college, which has great academic background and is affiliated to a much established university. This thing does matter.

But actually, it’s not always about the reputation of the institute but also about the people studying there and the crowd over there. I wished for the former earlier, to get the reputed college and that the crowd doesn’t really matter. But, it does certainly.

During Delhi University Cut-offs mash, I’ve seen many students scoring above 90s and not even able to get admission. I feel shame for them as they will get into a good college but what after that? No knowledge no career.

College is not about getting just your graduation done but about excelling in a particular subject.

If you go through Google and look for the word graduation, you will understand.

The word “graduated” is actually used for the one who can answer 100 question of his subject correctly. Having a graduation degree is not just a call for your Post-graduation but it is a responsibility. Responsibility for supporting your family further and to get yourself supported for future career. A good job will specifically knock the doors of some real knowledgeable graduate instead of just a graduate person. There is a difference, a vast distinction. One should study for himself and not for others, as in the end there will be no one who will stand if you aren’t qualified enough to earn something. But, on the other hand if you are enough capable then all of them will want you to stand for them. Again, there exists, a vast distinction.

There is nothing that you can’t get a good job, if you’ve had not been in a good college. It’s a falsehood. And in a country like India, where there are hundreds of first-rate universities and with thousands of resourceful colleges; it can’t be like this. Doing a work conceptually and with full devotion is what one needs to outshine. It’s never about the headline of you graduation degree certificate specifying the university nor it’s about how much you score in your school time. But it’s about the knowledge you have gained in all these times and how you can apply to these and can make your work very resourceful and beneficial for yourself and also for others.

So, for now you don’t have to be feeling disguise for what you have lost in your life but have to be proud for all the chances that are coming your way.

THE ORIENTATION PROGRAMME: MARK OF ANOTHER MILESTONE

The rollicking days of the Orientation Programme at Galgotias University brought home so much of fun filled joy seeping through the alleys and lanes of our life that we have ploughed up through much of what we have gathered, learnt, understood, reflected on. This is not something to be left dormant underlying our own conventionalized postures of existence at Galgotias University. Rather this invites us to see through the nature of Orientation Programme in its own form of memorable significance. This is about the grounding of our first memory at an academic institution (for the session 2012-13) in its original formative substrate. Memory is more original than forgetting and it is perhaps more so in our trajectories of drifting academic life. Orientation Programme or the day itself anchors itself in the sequence and regenerates itself being refurbished on and on, if not without its own trenchant self-orientation through contours of time.

The lush green grass, a bright sunny morning and the contrasting colours of red and white welcomed the new batch of Galgotias University 2012-20-13 in the Orientation Programme. The programme was three-day long starting from 3rd September and ending on 5th September, 2012. As the new joyful faces, brimming with hope stepped in the campus, their seniors welcomed them with jest and good humour. The ceremony on the 3rd of September started in accordance with the Indian tradition-with saraswati vandana and lighting of the lamp. After prayers were offered to the goddess of learning in the temple of learning, the speech by the vice chancellor Dr.Ashok Saxena came up as a source of motivation to all the students. The speech by the Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Sham Tickoo and his discussion on the future plans of the University helped the parents to understand the high aspirations of

their ward’s university. Prof. Balaji Rajagoplan, Pro-Vice Chancellor, mesmerised the audience with his inspirational words. While Dr.Renu Luthra, Director of GBS had the audience charmed by her spell of words, the Chief Proctor of the University Dr. Avadesh Kumar discussed the anti-ragging guidelines and precautions taken by the University. The felicitation of the first year toppers then followed and thereafter, the Dean of School of Engineering and Technology, Dr. Deependra Jha addressed the gathering with his witty demeanour. The day ended tinged with lots of hope and excitement with the national anthem being sung.

The admission process for various courses at Galgotias University was set in motion with the commencement of counselling. The freshers were welcomed with a welcome kit containing the academic schedule for 2012-13, Galgotias University history and copies of newsletter ‘The G-Post’. The whole idea was certainly to help the freshers to feel at home and be welcomed. The senior students took the initiatives for preparing the orientation week and were also present there for any queries regarding admissions and other details.

The morning of 4th September, though greyed a little by the patches of dark clouds in the sky, was contradictorily high on grounds as the various clubs of the university and GCET showcased their talent. What constitutes a university ? A University is recognized by the students it produces, who spread the light of their Alma Mater with their achievements in the world. But more importantly they throw a light on the talent of the torch bearers of their institute, their faculty members who nurture them. Galgotias University is reputed to have the most deemed faculty members. In continuation to our efforts of introducing these torch bearers, we are presenting another four faculty members in this issue to our readers viz. Prof. (Dr.) Pranveer S. Satvat, HOD Department of Civil, Prof.(Dr.) Prem S. Vashishtha, Dean, School of Arts and Social Sciences, Prof (Dr.) Rasheed Ahmad Khan, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Dr. Pratima Walde , Department of Electrical & Engineering. , has obtained his B.Tech. (1988) and M.Tech. (1991) from GB Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar.

The Doctorate in Civil Engineering was conferred on him in 2007 by IIT Kanpur. He received various merit scholarships and research fellowships during entire period of his education including the most prestigious International UNDP Junior Research Fellowship for 1988-91.

Dr. Satvat has also organized about 14 International Seminars, Workshops and Conferences as well as delivered 21 Key-Note-Addresses. On many occasions he has received Best Research Paper Awards , and Best Teacher Award . His teaching styles are recognized by Dale Carnegie- Cambridge. He is Fellow- Institution of Engineers (I) and International Society for Environment and Development, and chaired the Executive Secretary, IE(I) during 1992-94.

He has guided 70 post-graduate and two doctoral scholars. Prof. Satvat is on Editorial Board of four International Research Journals, and published more than 200 research papers in research journals/ conferences.

He has isolated two new microbial strains- PSSH1 and PSSH2 in 2011.

His research interests include ionic liquid adsorbents, ecosanitation, ecosustainable management of e-waste and typical industrial wastes.

He had been Head, Mechanical Engineering Department for three terms of three years each. His areas of interest are Mechanisms, Automation, Vibrations & Mechanics etc. He has guided 14 Ph-D. scholars. He has supervised large number of M.Tech. dissertations. He has published 137 research papers in International / National journals and conferences. He has provided consultancy to many industries of his domain. He is member of many committees of Govt. of India, Board of Studies and Faculty committee of various Universities and Engineering Colleges. He has also contributed articles to books published by Oxford University Press, Columbia University Press, Kiel Institute of World Economy, Germany; National Academy Press, USA; etc. Dr. Vashishtha has served on several committees of Government of India (Planning Commission, Ministry of Agriculture) and Indian Council of Agricultural Research. He has been consultant to several international organizations such as World Bank, UNDP, ILO, IFAD and IFPRI.

In August 2009, She joined the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Ashoka Institute of Technology, Varanasi, India, and served as the Head of the Department.

There she has organised various cultural and technical events. She has published various papers in national and international journals and conferences. She has 9 years of teaching and research experience. Her research interest includes power transmission system and management, deregulation, optimal power flow solution, and Artificial Intelligence application to power systems. In July 2012, she joined the Department of Electrical Engineering in the school of Engineering and Technology at Galgotias University, where presently she is working as Assistant Professor.

Interview with an International Student MR. MMUBWANGOLO NEHEMIE, is a 1st year BCA student at Galgotias University. He is citizen of Democratic Republic of Congo. The G-Post team interviewed him and what they found is presented here for the readers.

Q: Why did you choose to study at Galgotias University (G.U)?

A: G. U. is still in its growing stage and we hope to see better rooms in the hostel and food from all countries in the hostels, and a good variety of food in the cafeteria. Since we are international students, we have no knowledge of Hindi and therefore would like teachers and faculty members and other administrative staff to speak in English only, in the University.

This will create a truly international atmosphere at the university.

A: - From the information of Galgotias University website, we found that GU emphasizes on practical teaching together with theory thus providing industrial relevant knowledge .We also were impressed with the profile of faculty members at GU, espeQ: Would you recommend G.U. to other students? cially the international faculty.

Looking at the performance that Galgotias has achieved in its first year, we can deduce that Galgotias has a very bright future. So we chose to study at Galgotias University.

Q: How is life at G.U? A: It is academically a wonderful place. The learning atmosphere is fantastic. We have very experienced and highly qualified faculty members. There is fairness in academics and grading systems which creates a sense of academic safety. This is unlike what we have back home in our country. There is no politics or corruption in the academic systems.

Q: How are your fellow friends and the classroom atmosphere?

Making a decision and regretting it Right from childhood days, my parents tried to instil in me many life lessons that they themselves had learned the hard way. We too do the same to our kids so that we can protect them from regrettable but perhaps otherwise avoidable experiences. However, we learn, albeit unfortunately, that they must usually find out the best way through the school of hard knocks as much as we try to protect our children from their misconceived or premature decisions. Thus, what we do at home forms part of the school of growth and learning at home. In fact, both schools of thought coexist: Experts teach lessons to newbies and thus influence the latter’s potential decisions and on the other hand, people are also willing to be adventurous with their decision and risk the fate of an outcome. There can be a long debate on the merits and shortcomings of both ways of taking decisions. But, one thing is true: we take decisions and many times, regret it.

I recall several of my decisions taken at different stages (and of course, there are more to follow!). Needless to mention, few of them are quite regrettable. Making decisions is one of the most difficult tasks people face.

Why it is so? It’s probably because we have multiple choices available before taking any decision. If there is only one choice available before taking a decision and even if the outcome is bad, we would not grumble about it. But when the number of choices grow in myriad ways and directions, the difficulty increases exponentially. Here are some of the non-scientific decision making ways that I have come across:

I have made several decisions that I regretted afterward. I think all of us do the same. Many people emphasize the fact that there is no point to regret. It may cause stress to our brain and may hamper the future decisions.

However, we can't stop regretting if the decision we took was through a conscious effort. On the other hand, some make decisions to only regret it later. Does it mean that we should take a non-scientific route while arriving at some particular decision?

Because if we make the bad decision by some arbitrary and capricious method (such as flipping a coin), it is much easier to dump the decision and move on. What if we move on?

The problem is not only with too many choices available while making a single Decision based on experience: There is a decision, but also multiple associated problem with this kind of decision making. Visit of the Dean - School of Engineering & Technology to the USA (Champaign, Illinois 8-13 September 2012)

Dr. Deependra Kumar Jha, Dean of School of Engineering & Technology visited the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign to attend the 44th North American Power Symposium (NAPS) 2012. During his visit, he also presented his paper entitled “Estimating Electricity Supply Outage Cost for Residential and Commercial Customers” (Paper ID 2075).

NAPS is a premier international conference in the area of power and energy engineering held every year in North America and provides an open forum for participants from academia and industry to exchange innovative ideas and solutions. At the conference, high quality papers were presented in the areas of power systems and stability, distribution systems, micro-grids, climate and weather impacts, wind and solar integration, reliability, smart meters, load modelling and analysis, estimation and filtering, economics, and power electronics.

A NEW BEGINNING WITH NO START !

This is a question which many people pose now. ‘How do I use with the new version of windows as it does not have any start button?’

It’s equivalent to driving a car without a steering wheel.

These are a few points to be familiar with the new Windows 8.

Windows 8 is going to release on October 26 this year. It’s going to be released in 4 different editions. They are: Windows8, Windows 8 Pro, Windows 8 Enterprise and Windows RT (for tablets).

What’s so different in Windows 8 ?

The answer is the new user interface (UI). It was earlier known as the Metro UI but now, it’s just called Modern UI or Windows 8 UI. The Windows 8 UI is an icon-based interface which consolidates groups of common tasks and displays them aesthetically.

The advantages of Metro UI are: 1. Great Accessibility 2. Aesthetically pleasing 3. Improved Search feature 4. Dynamic Content So, when you’re logged onto the Start screen, you can just start typing whatever you want to search and the searching will automatically start. Searching has never been such easier.

There are large icons present on the start screen. They are called “Tiles”. They keep cycling and showing you more information. Also, it gives you the impression that the User Interface is responsive and “alive”, and has an added sense of depth.

Further, there are 3 new (tricky) features in Windows 8: 1. Charms: They come out when you hover around your mouse to the right hand side of the screen. They contain sharing options.

2. Apps Taskbar: It displays a preview of currently running apps. They come out when you hover around your mouse to the left hand side of the screen.

3. Right Click Context Menu: Like in tablets, upon right clicking in an app will display a bar at the bottom of the screen containing the traditional context menu.

Hence, it is advised here, to spend time with the new interface and you’ll find tiles to meet most of your day-to-day computing needs.

Orientation Program for MBA: The Second Beginning Orientation programs in the first year of any program of study are critical as they help the newly admitted students to learn about the curriculum, meet faculty and administrators and become familiar with the culture of the university with a view to galvanizing themselves into action when needed. So, when the School of Business announced a separate orientation program for the second year students, it left our senior students a bit amused. Initially, they thought that it would be a recap of their first year orientation with a high dosage of policy reminders. When the program unfolded, to their pleasant surprise, it was far from a repeat of what happened last year.

This program was more about the new exciting courses in the MBA program, team-building exercises, introducing them to the newly acquired learning management system - moodle and a discussion of the increased emphasis on experiential learning activities as part of the curricular and co-curricular activities.

Upon completing the program, students readily acknowledged the benefits of going through it and thanked the faculty for organizing the program.

Germany Visit of Dr. Shyamal Kumar Kundu Dr. Shyamal Kumar Kundu is an Associate Professor of Physics, School of Basic and Applied Sciences, Galgotias University, Uttar Pradesh.

Dr. Kundu got an offer to join the research program at Jielich Research Center, Germany. He investigated the soft colloidal model systems by rheology to test new experimental concepts. In the dilute regime, he used high molecular weight star polymers and linear polymers separately dispersed in low-molecular weight linear oligomer matrices. Steady shear flow curves showed a pronounced shear thinning behavior starting at characteristic shear rate decreasing with increasing matrix molecular weight and matrix viscosity, respectively and it is comparable with the existing theory. For the microscopic structure and phase separation, he studied the small angle neutron scattering (SANS) in combination with rheology at D11 spectrometer at the Institut Laue Langevin (ILL), Grenoble, France.

The School of Business organized a three day orientation program for the second year students from 6th to 9th August 2012. The program started with the welcome address from the Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Balaji Rajagopalan. He presented the underpinnings of the redesign of the MBA program. The day ended with important tips on writing a good resume.

The layout of the orientation program specifically designed for 2nd year students provided a roadmap for the year ahead and important information on various resources that will allow students to make informed career choices. Overall, the orientation program for the 2nd year students was a phenomenal success. We do hope that such orientation program will help students build proper strength into themselves in order for them to project their dreams and ambitions into the proper direction.

Interview with newly admitted student Q. Tell us something about your academic experience here. How is the classroom atmosphere? How is your interaction with the teachers and fellow friends?

In GU, the faculty and seniors organized many events like quiz and debate etc. where we can show talent in various areas.

There are management clubs, quizzes and presentation organized by our teachers and it helps the students to develop their personality. Teachers understand the problems of students and try to solve them as soon as possible. In total, academics is fun and resourceful in Galgotias University.

Q. What are your future expectations?

Suman Kumari did her schooling from ARMY PUBLIC SCHOOL in Jammu and Kashmir and completed her graduation from Meerut. She is an MBA student at Galgotias School of Business Galgotias University. From the Office of International Relations ……

In keeping with the Chancellor’s vision of creating a world class university, the Office of International Relations at Galgotias has achieved some significant milestones in the past few months.

Thirty one Students from various countries like Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Djibouti, Japan, Bhutan, Iraq, Afghanistan, have been admitted as full time students at the University for the academic year 2012-13. This makes the ambience of the university truly international. For many of them, this is their first visit to India and they are gradually adjusting to the new country, culture, food and people. The International Office is helping with the transition and integration of these students into the systems at GU. A few of the senior students volunteered to be Study Buddies for the international students and help them take their first steps through the university campus and to settle down and make new friends. The International Office records its appreciation of these Study Buddies..!!

At the behest of the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Ashok Saxena, an Enhanced Learning Center has been set up to offer academic support to all international students. The objective of this centre is to offer help to foreign students to make their learning and their transition into a new academic environment easier. This centre will support the students throughout their study at GU, so that they can do well academically.

Another activity proposed by the international Office is the International Students Club .This Club aims to provide students from various cultural backgrounds a common platform to come together and work as a team. The activities of the club will enhance and promote international understanding and friendship among students and also provide an insight into the different cultures of the world.

The International Students Club is open to all GU students. Interested students may contact the International Office for more information.

Internationalization is indispensable for the growth of any educational institution. GU’s vision is to enrich the academic ambience of the university by sharing and learning from the expertise of foreign universities. Towards this end, GU signed an MoU with Purdue University, USA on the 1st April 2012. An Articulation program with Purdue university, Calumet Campus, USA called the Purdue Bound Program was officially launched on 14th September by Prof. Sham Tickoo, Pro Vice Chancellor. This will give the students of B.Tech (Mechanical Engineering) an opportunity to study at Purdue University, Calumet for the final year of their program and they will be eligible to receive a degree from both universities, Purdue and GU.

This MOU will give all the students of Galgotias University an opportunity to attend short term programs of 2-4 weeks at the University of North America in the USA . The program will focus on providing an Experience of America and include lectures, seminars, visits and tours as well as on- site instruction in the Washington D.C., Metropolitan Area, thus enabling students to gain knowledge and an experience with a global perspective.

In addition to this, the Regional Director of Anglia Ruskin University, UK, Mr. Austin Brown, visited GU and expressed a keen interest for Articulation Programs in the UK for students of GU. These international experiences are planned to make learning exciting and interesting for GU students so that the University grows into a centre of world class higher learning that can be compared to the best in the world.

Vice-Chancellor’s Visit to USA The Vice-Chancellor Professor Ashok Saxena made a two-week visit to the United States in October of 2012 during which he held discussions with Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas and with Columbia University in New York to promote collaborations with Galgotias University. He also attended the Board meeting of the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) where he was installed as a member of the Board for the 2012-2013 year.

ABET is the world’s premier organization that accredits engineering and technology programmes mostly in the United States but increasingly so outside of United States.

The collaboration programmes discussed with faculty and

officials of Georgia Tech and the University of Arkansas are designed to benefit students and faculty alike. If the programmes are approved by both sides, GU students will be able to transfer to these institutions after two to three years and complete the remaining degree requirements in those institutions and earn degrees from these prestigious universities. There will also be opportunities for students for short-term visits to those institutions as interns. The discussions also included a wide range of other topics including a Visiting Faculty Programme and also the possibilities of GU students participating in online degrees from those institutions as well as engaging in joint degrees in specialized fields such as retail.

In Pursuit to Excellence

Faculty Development Programme by Prof. Sham Tickoo On 19th October Prof. Sham Tickoo delivered a talk to the Galgotias University faculty members who were “In Pursuit to Excellence”. He began his lecture talking about the Teaching world which is two-dimensional consisting of teaching and research. A Teacher is mostly concerned with teaching and researching in his area of study further. However, Prof. Tickoo talked about the third dimension which was the Enrichment Activities.

Prof. Tickoo said that the best and the most important assets of an educational institute are Faculty, Management and Staff. He likened an educational institute to a manufacturing unit, where students taking admission are ‘raw material’, faculty members are like ‘tools and processes’ which give shape to the given raw material, graduating students are like the finished products and Management and staff are there to provide support to the above group.

He gave three techniques through which Faculty members can strive for their development: Teaching, Scholarship and Service. Faculty should not restore to the traditional teaching techniques but rather try to introduce innovative teaching techniques whereby encouraging students to learn theory through application of concepts. Questions should be encouraged which would eventually lead to informative discussions and help in clearing concepts and doubts. Apart from the faculty evaluation, peer evaluation should also be encouraged and also the external evaluation for an unbiased, third-person evaluation.

Furthermore, a faculty member should also frame the syllabus of his subject carefully. The syllabus framed should be contemporarily and practically sound. Pains should be taken to compare the syllabus with various national and international colleges and universities to ensure that the chosen syllabus is up to the mark regarding present times. Team activities and projects should be decided and allotted and the departments should have state-of-the-art labs to give the students that much needed edge.

Prof. Tickoo also emphasised the importance and utility of research. A good teacher is always a scholar and is devoted to research. Whether he works individually or in a team, sponsored or otherwise, on projects or on a book, his aim is to gather more and more knowledge in his field and related areas.

Conferences are also a good way to maintain pace with the topics of concern and therefore research on.

A good way to develop one’s skills is through the route of service. One must actively be involved in industry training- on site, in house or online; or organise and participate in seminars and conferences which provide good exposure. Being members of University’s committees, organizing and participating in competition or shows also brings one to the forefront, as does being a sportsman, keen on participating- winning or losing- but believing in keeping fit.

Orientation Programme for PhD Scholars Times of transition can be difficult in many ways, and starting a PhD is no exception, So, in order to ease the way and to help to settle in the PhD program, Galgotias University organized an orientation program for fall 2012-13 batch PhD Scholars on 24th September, 2012.

Vice chancellor Prof Ashok Saxena welcomed the scholars and assured them all help at Galgotias University. Prof Saxena shared his experience about the time when he was in their shoes and advised the scholars to put their

100% in the PhD program.

The Dean Prof D K Jha gave the brief introduction of the various Schools of the Galgotias University. Prof Jha discussed the requirement of course work which every scholar has to complete to finally register in the PhD program. He also stressed on the quality of research, which is expected from the scholars and encouraged them to publish their research in the leading journals across the world.

FRESHER’S PARTY-2012 The cold morning breeze wasn’t the usual but had a winsome significance for the Galgotians of 2012 batch. As they all pulled up their socks to witness the splendid and scintillating Fresher’s Party-2012.The Galgotias Educational Institutions maintained its legacy to provide its students with breath taking surprises. The environment was peppered with bonhomie and ebullience. The commencement of the event in the presence of some of the prominent personalities such as the CEO of Galgotias Educational Institutions Mr. Dhruv Galgotia, Prof. Sham Tickoo, Prof. Balaji, Dr. Sundersan, Dr. Luthra, Mr. Lakhani & Mr Luthra lamp lighting marked the beginning of this academic year’s first surprise. Saraswati Vandana raised deep reverence towards our rich Indian culture and rejuvenated souls.

Galgotian performers enthused and amazed the juniors completely. This was followed by an address to the students from Mr. Dhruv Galgotia, who in his motivational speech brought out the importance of conducting an event as such, and explained the motive that is fulfilled through this entertaining event. Students from all corners of the world, each year become a part of Galgotias Group of Institutions and, this event helps in

bridging gaps between the different environments and the diverse culture that these students come from. His esteemed words acted as a remedy for meritorious students who came from far flung areas, and being a young entrepreneur his perception made way deep in thoughts to act as guidelines in stepping the competitive world.

The cold and soothing air was jazzed up by some impeccable and magnificent performances from Galgotia’s Dance and Music clubs formally known as Studio-D and Crescendo club. It was time for neurotic freshers to open up with evangelistic seniors. An invincible and enchanting fashion show was presented by Galgotias Fashion club that raised the spirits of the audience and left them stunned. This was followed by a band performance which engrossed everyone to their melodious notes. It was that particular moment when serenity in air gave up, and Galgotians gravitated to the dance floor. Poised bodies grooved to the latest and most happening numbers in the town played by the heart throbbing DJ. Our sincere thanks to Raddisson Blu Greater Noida for being our Hospitality Partners, Fresca Juices for being our Beverage Partners, Great India Place Mall and Worlds of Wonder for being our Entertainment Partners.

Ms Archana Browne and Ms Shailja from GIP,WoW and Ms Shivani from Kingdom of Dreams were our esteemed judges for Mr and Ms Freshers.

For some it was academic year’s first party but for some it was an occasion to bid adieu to school life and envisaging themselves as stakeholders of this professional era. Though exhausted but with enraptured souls and elated spirits, Galgotians made their way back to respective hostels. But memories down the lane of this mind boggling party will stay intact in everyone’s heart to blossom every now and then.

Galgotias University at International Academic Conference – 2012 on ‘Economic Growth and Changes of Corporate Environment in Asia’

The Indian Law Institute (Deemed University), New Delhi organised Two days International Academic Conference – 2012 on ‘Economic Growth and Changes of Corporate Environment in Asia’ & Celebration of 50 years of the Indian Advocates Act and its Relevancy in the International Context on 22 September 2012 & 23 September 2012 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.

Hon’ble Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was the Chief Guest.

Dr. Ashok Saxena, Vice Chancellor, Galgotias University graced the occasion.

Dr. Pradeep Kulshrestha, Dr. Sanjay Srivastava, Dr. Parul Goyal along with students of School of Law, GU participated in the two day International Academic Conference and made best use of the occasion to understand the latest developments in the field of law.

IEEE Branch Chapter at Galgotias University An IEEE student branch chapter has started in Galgotias University under IEEE Delhi section with the objective to grow the research activities and professional networking. An event was organised by IEEE Student Branch on 19th of Sept, 2012 at Galgotias University in which the guest speaker Mr. Ayush Jain, chair, GOLD (Graduate of Last Decades- An IEEE sub group), Delhi section, discussed about the benefits of IEEE membership, research activities, networking with the experts of the designated fields and about the technical societies as Power System society and Communication society. He also motivated the students to be a part of the student chapter so that they can get benefited with professionals with their publications, conferences, meetings and discussions and other means of professional communication. Students from various branches of M.Tech & B.Tech had participated in this event.

Anupriya Asthana, a student of M. Tech. CE, second year is holding the position of student chapter chair of Galgotias University and a faculty from ECE department Ms. Rashmi Kumari is serving as the branch counsellor of IEEE student chapter.

An event was organized by IEEE Delhi section on 20th to 21st of October 2012 at NSIT, Dwarka, New Delhi. It was the first Delhi student congress with the objective to give a common platform to the branches to facilitate networking and co-ordination among themselves. It was an initiative to provide the mutual support to all branches and be benefited with the creative ideas of other branches as well as the problems faced by them. Main key feature of the two day session was full of creative and knowledgeable team building events, leadership talk and interaction with the India SAC team representative from Hyderabad and Delhi.
