MISSION STATEMENT Children with deformities are almost always alienated from society and restricted in their potential. Children with facial deformities, such as cleft lip and cleft palate, are further marginalized because of the dramatic nature of these abnormalities. Operation Rainbow Canada reaches out internationally by providing reconstructive surgery for these children and by sharing skills with local physicians. Operation Rainbow Canada volunteers, supported by donors, proudly represent Canada and promote understanding of the needs of developing countries.

MISSION UPDATES

April 2010 Baru Sahib India Mission

COMPLETED MISSIONS 2010

FUTURE MISSIONS

Twenty-two ORC team members completed a highly successful mission to Baru Sahib India in April of 2010.

An ORC team is scheduled to provide reconstructive surgery and medical services to indigent persons and children in Linyi City, China from October 27, 2010 to November 8, 2010.

In total, 112 patients received surgery, including 30 locals. The surgeries included cleft lip (12), cleft lip repair (13), cleft palate (12), cleft palate & lip repair (12), burn cases (21) and others (12). The paediatric doctors screened 54 paediatric patients on top of the other screened patients (160), for a total of 214 screenings. Dr. Rai concluded that the team, although large, worked well together and each team member’s commitment contributed to a wonderfully successful mission. A set of 12 recommendations was made for a future mission to Baru Sahib, including a plan for a strong educational component, some VISA and equipment considerations as well as communication and post op recommendations.

Giving the Gift of a Smile….a Lasting Legacy

Operation Rainbow Canada also hopes to provide reconstructive surgery, assist and carry out educational and scientific activities related to the care of sick or injured, and promote health by providing hands on training for the local doctors, nurses and other health care workers in other underdeveloped areas of the world as well.
