What does Forth Sector do? Forth Sector believes that vocational activity and work is a good way to improve mental health and wellbeing. Forth Sector provides a personalised service to suit each person that aims to help you improve your employability skills. You can access a range supports and choose what you would like to do from: • Training • Support and mentoring • Help with job preparation and searching • Work experience/placements You will be assigned an adviser when you register and they will stay with you during your time at Forth Sector, meeting you regularly to offer support and advice and to help you set realistic and achievable goals.

Work Placements Forth Sector has set up businesses that seek to compete in their market, but are primarily there to provide work experience placements for people who have been out of work for a long time, or have not been in a work environment before. Doing a work placement can provide a number of benefits including: • Routine • Social contact • Build confidence • A current reference Forth Sector also arranges external work placements in local businesses that provide the same opportunity to gain experience with support from Employability Services.


Social Firm Placements St Jude’s is a long running laundry business with a Royal Warrant. Duties include Part of the Forth Sector Group operating washers and driers, industrial ironing and sorting and folding clothes. There may also be opportunities to assist with the collection and delivery of laundry from customers. The work in the laundry is physical in nature.

St Jude’s Laundry

The Scottish Soapworks manufactures quality soaps, bath and body products. Placements are based in a production unit in Craigmillar and involve making and cutting a variety of handmade soaps; mixing recipes for a range of body products and packaging the finished products. EES Logos use industrial embroidery machines to put logos onto garments such as school and club uniforms, work-wear, baseball caps/ties etc. Duties include using the computer to load designs, threading machines, putting garments into the machine, machine operation and packing orders. Forth Sector’s head office is the location of the senior management team, business development, finance and administration, human resources and employability services. There are placements in administration, marketing, finance, human resources and employability services. Duties vary.

External Placements Forth Sector has placements available in a number of local businesses and can approach other businesses to request a placement if you have a particular area of interest.


Training We offer a range of training courses and workshops in personal effectiveness and practical employability skills. These include: • Confidence building • CV building • Interview preparation

We also offer some accredited courses that lead to a certification including: • First Aid • Manual Handling • REHISS

Job Search and Career Support Your adviser will help you to work towards your employment and educational goals, and can help you to: • Explore your employment and educational options • Choose the right job, education, training or voluntary work for you • Improve your job searching skills, including CVs, application forms, interviews, on-line job searching and on-line applications • Settle into your new job if you achieve this whilst on Forth Bridge • Link into other organisations who can give you longer term support Your employment adviser will work closely with you to help you identify your plans for the future and how you can achieve these.

We will support you to: • Build confidence and gain experience • Choose the right type of job for you • Indentify appropriate training and education • Improve your job-searching and interview skills • Settle into a new job • Identify other organisations who can provide you with additional support

Who is this for? The Forth Bridge service from Forth Sector is free to people living in Edinburgh who are experiencing mental health difficulties or in recovery, and are currently unemployed.

Working Together At Forth Sector we believe that you are the best person to decide on what support, help and advice you need to improve your employability skills. Experience tells that when people with a similar goal get together to decide what they need a number of things happen; more good ideas are generated, people take action together, people develop friendships, and people start to help each other. We want you to tell us what services or supports we should be providing to meet your needs, and we are always looking at how we can help you to get your ideas across to us and to help to make them a reality.
