This exhibit showcases the recent works of the recipients of the 2010 South Florida Cultural Consortium Visual and Media Artists Fellowship. The featured artists are COOPER, FriendsWithYou, Michael Genovese, Francie Bishop Good, Nolan Haan, Sibel Kocabasi, Beatriz Monteavaro, Glexis Novoa, Jonathan Rockford, Bert Rodriguez, Tonietta Walters and TM Sisters. This eclectic group of artists employs a vast array of techniques and media to explore a wide range of subjects. Some explore personal relationships, intimacy and identity, and some tackle broad socio-political issues, while others offer insights and critiques into art. Some look at the everyday while others delve in fantasy realms and some just want to have fun. This collection of highly accomplished artists is representative of the burgeoning and dynamic arts community that has thrust South Florida to the forefront of the contemporary art world. The South Florida Cultural Consortium, an alliance of the local arts agencies of Martin, Palm Beach, Broward, Dade and Monroe counties, assists visual and media artists through direct grants awarded solely on the basis of creative excellence to improve artistic skills and encourage career development. This exhibit, which is an essential feature of the fellowship program, enables these artists to be shown in a major exhibition in the flagship visual arts institutions throughout the region.
