FRAME OF MIND

A resource pack on mental wellbeing Hi! My name is Beth and I'm 18 years old. Thank you for opening my resource pack! It contains a number of printable worksheets and related films by Fixers to use as part of your lessons. I’ve created these worksheets to help raise awareness, and open up discussion about positive mental wellbeing. in my experience, it's a subject that has been overlooked and under valued, especially in school.

Films Included: Volunteering Matters- a group of young people from Aylesbury aim to highlight the lesser known benefits of volunteering. Self Belief- 24-year-old rapper and music producer James Ellis has helped create this film to urge others to have self-belief and pursue their goals. Say No To Social Media Peer Pressure- Sarah Baker, 19, wants to show young people that they don’t have to give in to peer pressure, especially if it means doing something they’re not comfortable with.

Using the colour code below, take turns to discuss your colour's topic.

How you can avoid peer pressure

ORANGE:

An example of peer pressure

Motivation & Mindset

Having a positive mindset can, from my personal experience, help you cope better with stress, increase your productivity and lower anxiety.

Activity 1 – Scenarios Split into groups and spend 10 minutes discussing and listing ways to manage the following scenarios: You have a test tomorrow which you need to pass but you haven’t revised and you don’t have the motivation to study. You have a very lazy mindset and want to change, but you don’t know how.

You notice one of your parents lacking motivation to go to work.

You have a very creative mindset, but find that this causes you to take a long time to complete tasks as you focus too much on the detail.

Activity 2 – Match the Mindset

Here are 12 different mindsets, see if you can match them to the descriptions below. Fill in the left column with your answers. Fear Business Gratitude

Lazy Productive Growth

Social Dreamer Creative

Short-Term Follower Greed

Angry Envy Confident

Love being around people and exploring new cultures. Constantly want to improve themselves and love challenges. Let their fears hold them back and often feel ‘stuck’. Lack discipline and desire to do anything.

Obsessive about those with great lives and often jealous. Want to change the world and provide a service to people.

Believe anything is possible and can envisage the future in many ways. Allow others to make decisions for you and don’t have full control of life. Guilty of always wanting more and struggle to find happiness. Often say thank you and show kindness to those around them. Showing certainty in themselves and their abilities. Come up with unique ideas and possess skill. Often ‘addicted’ to things that only makes them happy for a small amount of time. Unable to control emotions and often blame others for their mistakes. Complete tasks quickly and pursue their goals.

Purpose & Goals Writing down goals can give you something to aim for, a sense of purpose and can keep your mind organised and focused.

Activity 1 – Goals Where do you see yourself in the future?

Where do you see yourself in one year?

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Where do you see yourself in ten years?

How can I make sure I reach these goals?

Activity 2 – Volunteering

Volunteering can be a great way of giving yourself purpose. Write down 5 places where you’d like to volunteer and why they appeal to you.

Where you would like to volunteer

Why it appeals to you

Strength & Mindfulness Activity 1 – Recognise Behaviour How would someone who is mindful react to everyday situations?

How would someone who is not so mindful react to everyday situations?

Now discuss each groups findings and how mindfullness can affect your own and others mental wellbeing.
