Create A Tropical Paradise In Your Own Backyard (NAPS)—Even if you can’t get away to an exotic locale this year, you can still escape to a tropical paradise—without ever leaving home. Thanks to a new crop of tropically inspired outdoor living products and accessories, converting your backyard into an oasis is easier than ever. “Tropical-inspired designs are extremely popular right now in outdoor living,” explains Adam Zambanini, vice president of marketing for Trex, the world’s largest manufacturer of wood-alternative decking and railing. “Combining warm, natureinspired hues and textures, these exotic looks are ideal for creating a luxurious, restful backyard retreat.” Here are some tips for transforming your outdoor living space into an exotic getaway—no passport required:

Lights, Color, Accents: Add ambience for cocktail parties or evening cookouts with dimmable LED deck lighting and create an inviting lounge area with comfortable, durable outdoor furnishings. Even if the budget is tight, adding vibrant pillows or tropical flowers and plants can serve as a quick and colorful pick-me-up. Take Your Cues from the Tropics: When it comes to decking and railing, look for colors that are rich and saturated and draw inspiration from exotic streaked hardwoods, such as the new tropical additions to the Transcend line from Trex. Offered in vibrant colors such as Spiced Rum (a warm, earthy umber) and Lava Rock (a rich reddishblack), these exotic wood looks lend themselves beautifully to a relaxing, resort-style setting. Go Green: Opt for eco-friendly outdoor living

products made of recycled materials, which both protect and enhance the environment. Wood-alternative decking (made from recycled plastic bags) boasts the beauty of tropical hardwoods, without the environmental stresses associated with importing these endangered materials. It also requires no sanding, staining or power washing, so you can spend more time enjoying—rather than maintaining—your outdoor living space. For more tips on designing an exotic outdoor living space, call (800) 289-8739 or visit www. trex.com. The site features helpful information along with user-friendly online tools, including a Color Visualizer and Deck Designer, which allow visitors to experiment with different products, finishes and layouts.

New Initiative Aims To Save More Lives From Sudden Cardiac Arrest (NAPS)—The nation’s leading emergency and resuscitation experts are working together to improve survival rates for sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). The Problem Sudden cardiac arrest occurs when the heart abruptly stops beating because of abnormal heart rhythms. Each year, an estimated 295,000 Americans die from SCA, as reported by the American Heart Association’s Heart Disease and Stroke Statistical Update. For three decades, there’s been no improvement in the national survival rate of 8 percent for SCA, and depending where you live, the survival rate could vary greatly. The Solution The HeartRescue Project is a new initiative to improve SCA procedures in three critical areas of response: bystanders, emergency medical services and hospital emergency rooms. To educate people and encourage the proper response to SCA, the Medtronic Foundation committed more than $15 million to initiate the HeartRescue Project. The project assembles the country’s leading emergency and resuscitation experts to expand successful response programs in five pilot states. The goal is to improve out-of-hospital cardiac arrest survival rates by at least 50 percent in five years in these states.

HeartRescue partners at the Universities of Arizona, Duke, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Washington and their partner agencies will coordinate proven protocols and high-tech treatments that show SCA is treatable. “There is a 500 percent variation in survival after cardiac arrest,” said Dr. Graham Nichol, a HeartRescue partner at the University of Washington. “Many people don’t realize that cardiac arrest can be treated. In many regions, bystanders, emergency response and hospitals are not working together to help the patient.” What You Can Do Success begins with public bystanders. Communities with higher bystander CPR participation have higher SCA survival rates. Bystanders can take the following three steps to increase survival rates: Recognize the signs of SCA and call 911, begin CPR and find an automated external defibrillator (AED). • Recognize the signs of SCA—If you see someone suddenly collapse, lose consciousness and stop breathing, that person could be experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. Immediately call 911. • Perform CPR—Begin hands-only CPR: Push hard and fast on the chest—about 100 compressions a minute. Let the chest rise completely between compressions. • Find an AED—Continue chest compressions until emergency personnel arrive. If possible, have someone

get an automated external defibrillator, turn it on and follow the directions. More Information You can learn more about this initiative at www.medtronic.com/foundation and www.heartrescueproject.com.

Make Your Home “Bone Healthy”: Simple Tips To Help Avoid Falls At Home (NAPS)—Did you know that one out of three adults age 65 and older falls each year, putting themselves at risk for injury and even broken bones? And rates of fall-related fractures among older women are more than twice those for men. Avoiding falls is important for people of all ages, but it is especially important for the nearly eight million women who experience postmenopausal osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a disease where bones become brittle and are more likely to break. For women with postmenopausal osteoporosis, a fall may mean fractured or broken bones. That is why taking precautions to avoid falls is key to staying healthy. With a few simple steps, you can help make sure your house is safer for bone-healthy living. Making changes in your bathroom, living room and kitchen—such as removing throw rugs—can make a big difference. Also, staying alert and focused, remember to wear well-fitting shoes with good treads and using night-lights are all easy ways you lower your chances of falling. “Every year, more than 80,000 people fall in their homes and end up in the emergency room,” said Barbara Dehn, nurse practitioner at the Women Physicians Ob/ Gyn Medical Group, Mountain View, California. “Doing things like cleaning up spills right away or removing cords from open spaces can help avoid the accidents that cause fractured bones.” Along with helping to make your home safer, there are other key components to good bone health. Exercising and eating a balanced diet with the recommended amount of calcium and vitamin D are part of a well-rounded

such as once-monthly Boniva. This is a prescription medicine for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.” Indication Boniva is a prescription medicine used to treat or prevent osteoporosis in women after menopause. Boniva helps increase bone mass and helps reduce the chance of having a spinal fracture (break). It is not known how long Boniva works for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis. You should see your doctor regularly to determine if Boniva is still right for you.

bone health routine. There are also medicines you can take to improve bone health, so it’s important to talk to your doctor about a treatment that may be right for you. “As we get older, we need to do everything we can to keep our bones strong,” said Dehn. “If you’ve been diagnosed with postmenopausal osteoporosis, then ask your healthcare provider about a medicine that may increase bone mass,

Simple Tips for Around the House Bathroom: • Install grab bars • Use nonskid bath mats and remove throw rugs (in the bathroom and anywhere in the home) • Use night-lights Living Room: • Keep floors free of clutter (in the living room and anywhere in the home) • Avoid cords (especially ones that have frayed) • Be sure all carpets and area rugs have skidproof backing or are tacked to the floor Kitchen/Laundry Room: • Clean up spills immediately • Put away dryer sheets • Avoid climbing on counters to reach items at the back of a cabinet

Identity Security At Your Fingertips (NAPS)—A recent international consumer survey conducted online by Harris Interactive shows that more than 42 percent of e-mail users in the U.S. have seen an increase in spam messages over the past year and they are most fearful that spam will lead to viruses and identity theft. What To Do There are, however, several steps you can take to address these threats. Here are a few to consider: • Watch out for social networking spam. Spam posing as a message from a popular social network can be hard to spot. Always log in to your social networking site to reply to messages and add friends, rather than clicking on links from a suspect message. • Know how to respond properly. Instead of responding to a spam message, you should report it to your e-mail service provider. You can typically do this by clicking on the suspect message and marking it as “spam.” • Don’t click on links from e-mails you can’t completely trust. If you receive a message containing Web links that appears to be from your bank or a shopping site, instead of clicking on the links, go directly to the bank or shopping website to perform any activity. • Keep your computer operating system and security software up to date. Even if you have good security software (anti-virus or anti-malware), it can’t protect you if it’s out of date. Enable the software to automatically update from the Internet. • Install a dedicated anti-spam application. Simply having anti-virus software installed on your PC won’t protect you from spam messages. Be sure to install a separate anti-spam filter so only legitimate messages arrive in your in-box. • See about new, free protection to keep yourself and your family or small business safe.

Who Can Help A global leader in carrier-grade messaging security recently introduced the most accurate and easy-to-use free anti-spam software for consumers and small businesses. Available as a free download, the light-touch, easy-to-install application continuously filters e-mail and Web mail to eliminate spam and protect you against online identity theft or phishing and e-mail-borne viruses. Users now have the power to block, unblock and scan messages easily to determine their own level of protection and message delivery. Unlike many other consumer anti-spam products, which are simply add-on components to other desktop security suites, Cloudmark DesktopOne is a dedicated e-mail anti-spam product created by a company that addresses the needs of the most demanding service provider environments to protect over a billion user accounts worldwide. What You Get • Constant E-mail Filtering—It continuously filters messages to stop even the most sophisticated spam, phishing and e-mail-borne virus attacks, even when your e-mail client or Web mail isn’t open on your desktop or when you log on to your accounts remotely. • Fast, Easy Installation—It installs in seconds and detects existing e-mail accounts on the computer automatically so filtering can begin instantly. • Protection Against New Threats—It adapts to the newest messaging threats and automatically provides protection within moments of their emergence. The basic mode is free for individual users to filter one e-mail account into a single spam folder. Supplementing Your Health (NAPS)—Getting the best health care for the least amount of money is on the minds of many Americans these days. Fortunately, there are ways you can use nutrition to help support your health, and government agencies are working harder than ever to ensure the safety of consumers choosing to do so. Here’s how: You can enhance your health easily and inexpensively with the help of dietary supplements. According to the National Institutes of Health, “Some supplements may help ensure that you get adequate amounts of essential nutrients or help promote optimal health and performance. Scientific evidence shows that some dietary supplements are beneficial for overall health and for managing some health conditions. For example, calcium and vitamin D are important for keeping bones strong and reducing bone loss; folic acid decreases the risk of certain birth defects; and omega-3 fatty acids from fish oils might help some people with heart disease.” That may be why the number of Americans taking at least one dietary supplement a day is estimated to be more than 70 percent, according to a study published in The Journal of Nutrition. Multivitamins, fish oil and vitamin D are among the most popular choices. According to a study by The Lewin Group, significant health care cost savings could be achieved if more people took nutrition supplements. For example, if older Americans took enough calcium with vitamin D, it’s possible that 776,000 hospitalizations for hip fractures could be avoided over five years, reducing the need for stays in skilled nursing facilities. During those five years, $16.1 billion could be saved as a result. Government agencies have increased oversight. The supplements you get today in health food stores, grocery stores or online from major companies are manufactured under more government oversight than many people realize. Dietary supplement oversight by

the U.S. government has increased dramatically over the past few years, with new laws created and regulatory agencies taking action more often against companies breaking those laws. The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act defines supplements as a specially regulated food category. Several other laws also regulate dietary supplements, so now dietary supplement manufacturing is more closely regulated than most other food categories. Both the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) have been exercising their authority over the industry very vigorously. Every dietary supplement maker now has to have strict quality programs in place to follow, called “Good Manufacturing Practices.” The FDA also makes surprise visits to manufacturers to ensure they are following those rules. In fact, many experts say, any further regulation would lead to these dietary supplements costing as much as prescription medications. What’s more, these experts point to a proven track record of safety as another good reason not to regulate vitamins the way drugs are. “The dietary supplement industry has long supported reasonable regulation, with these rules now in effect: All manufacturers must follow FDA-audited Good Manufacturing Practices requiring safety and identity testing; only FDA-approved ingredients can be used; steroid precursors and other drugs are illegal in supplements; companies must submit all complaints of serious adverse events to the FDA, which now has authority to mandate product recalls,” said Neil E. Levin, CCN, DANLA, past president of the American Nutrition Association. Learn More You can get more information about supplements and which, if any, would be good for you from your doctor.

How To Find The Best Value In Higher Education (NAPS)—There’s no doubt that college can be expensive and it’s only natural to wonder whether a four-year degree is really worth the money. The truth is that some schools with private price tags can indeed pay the greatest returns. “There are lots of benefits to attending a top school like Lehigh, beyond an excellent academic experience. Those additional benefits include a supportive alumni network and a robust career services office,” said J. Leon Washington, dean of admissions and financial aid at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. “These benefits pay off, resulting in higher job placement numbers, successful admissions into the top graduate and professional schools, and higher starting salaries for graduates. In fact, Lehigh was in the top 15 on a list of best values in higher education, according to a study conducted by PayScale for Bloomberg BusinessWeek,” he added. To make sure that you’re getting the best return on investment for your tuition dollars, it may pay to keep these tips in mind when conducting your college search:

• Brush up on your statistics. Check how many students graduate in four years and ask for the school’s job placement numbers so you can see their outcomes. How many students get jobs within six months of graduation? What are their average starting salaries? • Evaluate the school’s career services. Choose a school that offers support such as career counseling, practice interviews and résumé critiquing. Keep an eye on how many job fairs and

networking events the college offers on campus. Take a look at the school’s job board and make sure it lists jobs in the industry and region in which you plan to work. • Explore internship opportunities. Seek schools that promote internships as a way to learn outside the classroom. Internships provide valuable professional experience and often lead to job offers. • Look for a strong alumni network. Successful alumni who are connected to the school can help students and recent graduates. The alumni are often eager to share their advice and experiences and they may even be more willing to facilitate internships or hire graduates of their own alma mater. • Check out graduate school choices. For some students, education doesn’t end with a bachelor’s degree. If you’re planning to pursue a graduate degree, look at the school’s graduate school placement statistics. Make sure students are going to the type of grad schools that you’d like to attend. With a little legwork and these tips, you can find a college that offers a degree with great value. College might seem like a big investment, but it’s an investment that can pay returns for decades to come.

IN THE UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT FOR THE DISTRICT OF NEW MEXICO No. CV 2011-00117 CG/LFG UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, Plaintiff, vs. THE UNKNOWN HEIRS, DEVISEES, OR LEGATEES OF MANUELA R. BESERRA, DECEASED; OCCUPANTS, WHOSE TRUE NAMES ARE UNKNOWN, IF ANY,

Defendants. ORDER FOR PUBLICATION THIS MATTER comes before the Court upon Plaintiff United States of America’s Motion for Publication (‘Motion’) (Doc. 4). Plaintiff requests service by publication upon Defendant THE UNKNOWN HEIRS, DEVISEES, OR LEGATEES OF MANUELA R. BESERRA, DECEASED: OCCUPANTS, WHOSE TRUE NAMES ARE UNKNOWN. The Court, having considered the Motion, the relevant law, and otherwise being fully advised in the premises, FINDS the Motion to be welltaken and will be GRANTED. A note and mortgage for the property commonly known as 905 56th Street NW, Albuquerque, N.M., 87105 was conveyed and assigned to the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, an agency of the United States of America, in December of 2004. (Doc. I at 2-3). Plaintiff states that the death of Manuela R. Beserra - the original mortgagee - operates as a default on the mortgage since the property is no longer the principal residence of any surviving borrower. (Doc. 1 at 3: Doc. 1-3 at 4). Plaintiff therefore moves to foreclose upon the property. (Doc. I at 3-4). Plaintiff states that there may be other parties who claim some interest or right in the real property, but that Plaintiff has been unable to determine the identity or location of such persons. (Doc. I at 3; Doc. 4). Therefore, pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 1655, Plaintiff moves to effect service by publication. (Doc. 4). 28 U.S.C. § 1655 provides that this Court may order any absent defendants to appear in this action. However, where personal service is not practicable, the Court’s order to appear must be published for a minimum of six weeks before such service shall be deemed valid. 28 U.S.C. § 1655. The Court finds that personal service is not practicable since Plaintiff has been unable to ascertain the identity or location of any defendants. IT IS THEREFORE ORDERED that Plaintiff shall publish this Order in a newspaper of general circulation in the county where the action is pending not less than once a week for six consecutive weeks; IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the above-named defendant enter an appearance or otherwise plead within thirty (30) days after the final publication of this Order in accordance with 28 U.S.C. § 1655; IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that if the above-named defendant fails to appear or plead within the time allowed, the Court shall proceed as if the absent defendant had been served with process within the State of New Mexico, but affecting only the property which is the subject of this action. /s/_____________________ THE HONORABLE CARMEN E. How To Prune Your Hydrangea (NAPS)—You prize your hydrangeas for their beautiful flowers. You also want to make sure you prune them at the right time to encourage the stunning blooms every season. But do you wonder whether or when to prune them? “The first step is to determine the variety of your hydrangea,” said Tim Wood, new product manager at Proven Winners ColorChoice. “This is fairly easy to do. If your plant produces big pink or blue flowers, it is a Hydrangea macrophylla. If its flowers are round and white—or pink in the case of the new Invincibelle Spirit—the plant is a Hydrangea arborescens. Finally, if the plant has large, conical flowers, which are often white but may also be green or pink, you own a Hydran gea paniculata.” Bigleaf Hydrangeas If you have Hydrangea macrophylla, also known as Bigleaf Hydrangea, Wood says you can relax. This plant requires little more than a trimming and only immediately after flowering. You should never prune it in winter or spring, because it sets flower buds the year before and if you shear it back, then you will cut off all of summer’s flowers. Newer reblooming varieties such as the Let’s Dance series from Proven Winners ColorChoice will also bloom on the current season’s growth, but you still want to leave the plant intact through spring so you can enjoy early summer flowers. Smooth Hydrangeas Hydrangea arborescens, also known as Smooth Hydrangea, are beloved for their adaptable nature and reliable blooms. You should prune it back in late winter

or early spring. These hydrangeas bloom on “new wood”—the current season’s growth. Pruning them back at that time encourages new growth, which produces flowers. Spring pruning will also result in a fuller, stronger plant that’s less likely to flop under the weight of its abundant summer flowers. Cutting the stems back to one or two feet will leave a good framework to support the blooms. Today, there are two new “Annabelle” Hydrangea arborescens with stronger stems, so they won’t flop after being established. Invincibelle Spirit Hydrangea is the very first pink-flowered form of “Annabelle.” Invincibelle Spirit continues to produce new pink flowers right up until frost, providing a beautiful display

across several seasons in your garden, from mid-summer to fall. Incrediball Hydrangea has the biggest flowers and the strongest stems of any of the “Annabelle” hydrangeas. Incrediball produces incredibly large white blooms as big as a basketball. Hardy Hydrangeas Hydrangea paniculata, sometimes called Hardy Hydrangea, also blooms on new wood. You should prune it back in late winter or early spring. You can cut it back to the ground or, if you want slightly taller plants, cut it back to one to three feet. This is a great job for one of those early spring days when everything is still dormant but it’s so beautiful and warm you need to be in the garden. A new variety of Hydrangea paniculata won’t require as much pruning to keep it smaller. The new Little Lime Hydrangea boasts the same colors and benefits of the famous “Limelight” Hydrangea though only reaching three to five feet fully grown. At one-third the size of other hardy hydrangeas, it fits well into practically any landscape. Little Lime produces bright cone-shaped limegreen flowers, later turning into pink, from mid-summer to frost. Fortunately, even if you make a mistake and prune at the wrong time of year, these plants will forgive you. You may not have flowers for a season but, with proper timing, you’ll see them the following year. Just remember to start by correctly identifying which kind of hydrangea you have. With just a little work, you’ll get beautiful flowers from your hydrangeas year after year. For more information on the newest hydrangeas, visit www. provenwinners.com.
