k r a P & m u se u M w e Renfr Nestled in beautiful acres of green, Renfrew Museum and Park lies on a 200-year-old historic farmstead, located on Route 16 in Waynesboro. This gem of Franklin County is a beautiful location for an outdoor wedding and ceremonies as well as engagement photographs and nuptials! The location has an intimate feel, with a shaded raised patio behind the museum and a stone wall along the back of the museum yard creates a natural auditorium. Guests can enjoy the spacious property and scenery as they watch the happy couple say “I Do.” Renfrew Museum offers a variety of packages, including full day uses of their pavilion and outdoor area for wedding ceremonies. The museum grounds can also be rented for other get-togethers, including reunions, fundraisers and more. The park also contains a local play area for smaller children and the visitors center nearby as well offers a look at the past of Renfrew. Prices for wedding services at Renfrew Museum and Park are available by visiting their website at renfrewmuseum.org or by calling 717-7624723.

The Historic Royer Farmstead This farmstead, built in about 1812 by Daniel Royer, was a working industrial and dairy farm that he worked with his wife and 10 children. The Royer-Nicodemus House is now the center point of Renfrew Museum and Park. The home and 107-acres owned by the Nicodemus Family was willed by Emma Geiser Nicodemus and sister Hazel Geiser to the Borough of Waynesboro as a museum and park. Emma wanted the area to be named Renfrew to remember two sisters with that name who tradition says died on the property. With renovation and resoration, the area has been expanded to include a Visitors Center in the Victorian period barn, several restored outbuildings which include the smokehouse, milkhouse and Fahnestock farmstead with its barn and house. The park is open dawn to dusk year-round and the museum is open Tuesday through Saturday.

Say yes to the dress! There is perhaps nothing as synonymous with weddings as the wedding dress. These beautiful, sweeping dresses can be shorter, decorated with lace, decorated with beading or be lined with satin, taffetta or silk. Did you know:

White wedding dresses were made popular by Queen Victoria in 1840. The queen’s dress, a white gown with lace, was widely published and many brides chose the color after her.

work by Maggie Sottero, Morilee, Rebecca Ingram, Sottero & Midgley, and Allure Bridals gowns. Jackie Moore, sales manager and bridal sales consultant has helped many brides come in to find their gowns and has seen some styles return often. “Sleeves return often,” she said. “And many women come in looking for a wedding dress with a vintage style. They want a classic bridal look.” The biggest thing in for this year are beautiful backs on wedding dresses, Moore said, and this includes “sheer illusion backs with buttons” to create a striking look.

As well as more modern fashions, some old favorites are also returning, said Amy Gibson, bridal sales consultant at J&B. “Ballgowns are coming back,” she said. “Brides are into the idea of romantic and flowing dresses. Styles always cycle, like lace and also, straps are coming back after many years of strapless dresses being popular.” During a consultation and fitting, brides are given a spot with a consultant and from there, can try on dresses that pique their interest. Also, they can choose veils, shoes and other accessories. The consultants recommended brides bring any undergarments they would like to wear when trying on potential wedding dresses, as well as having an idea of a potential budget range and an open mind to try on different styles. And in terms of white dresses, 10% of brides now are choosing the bright whites, the consultants said. Champagne, ivory and light gold colors are big favorites in wedding dresses in the last few years. “The dress is really the centerpiece of your wedding,” Moore said. “We can help brides find the perfect fit for them that will fit every type of wedding.” As well as bridal dresses, the shop features men’s choices for weddings, groomsmen and proms, with traditional and more modern styles and colors. Their wide range of styles for all occasions is sure to please everyone in the bridal party. Have wedding party members out of the area? No problem. J&B can fit out-of-town groomsmen with coordination from the store so the wedding planning go on from all over the country! To make an appointment or any questions, call J&B Bridals at 717- 2630138.

Something for everyone in Franklin County!

Weddings bring friends and families together. It is a good time to catch up and make memorable moments. Take a few hours to explore and enjoy Franklin County--the history, arts and entertainment, recreation and natural beauty, wonderful foods and warm hospitality of

charming communities like Chambersburg,Greencastle, Mercersburg, Shippensburg, Waynesboro and all the places in between. Historic and beautiful, Chambersburg is the seat of justice for Franklin County. Settled in 1734 by Scots-Irish immigrant Benjamin Chambers, Cham-

bersburg has long been known for its excellent location. Majestic Memorial Fountain marks the crossroads of the historic Lincoln Highway-U.S. Route 30-and Route 11. Raided, invaded, and devastated by Confederate firing of the town in 1864, the fountain and the bronze sentry are memorials to the soldiers of the Civil War and all Franklin County veterans. A trip to the Chambersburg Heritage Center, 100 Lincoln Way East, will put the county in perspective and give a good view of the county’s classic architecture. A tour of the Old Franklin County Jail and John Brown House on King Street are must-sees for history-buffs who like to experience history up close. The kids will like a stop at the

doh-nuh-t company, who make fresh one-of-a-kind donuts made to order. Or, simply wind down at Roy Pitz Brewing Company and Beer Stube, 140 North 3rd Street, making craft beers since 2008. Old-fashioned charm and friendliness describe Greencastle perfectly. Located near the Maryland state line along the 1-81 corridor, Greencastle was founded in 1782 by John Allison, a personal friend of George Washington. First came the Baltimore turnpike and then the Cumberland Valley Railroad passed through town. Today visitors can glimpse vestiges of the era at the old passenger station along the high line at West Baltimore and Jefferson Streets and enjoy coffee, cocktails or more at The Highline Restaurant. Antiquers and ghost enthusiasts will love The Farmer’s Wife, 103 South Carlisle Street. Greencastle Antiques has a lot of hidden treasure, also ... sans ghosts. Allison-Antrim Museum is a heritage site that interprets ScotsIrish history and maintains a variety of exhibits, from rock and roll to baseball, the Civil War and Underground Railroad, and a collection of artifacts from the oldest, continuously operating drug store in

the United States-Carl’s Drug, which is still going strong. Kids will love Funcastle, 3054 Buchanan Trail East, with gocarts, mini-golf, batting cages, arcade and more. To visit Mercersburg is to step back in time. As the boyhood home of fifteenth president James Buchanan, Mercersburg offers rich colonial, Underground Railroad, and Civil War history. Settled

by James Black, a Scots-Irish immigrant, in 1730, the town was originally called Black’s Town. Take the historic walking tour of downtown, enjoy the wonderful early American architecture, and listen for the lovely 50-bell carillon of the Mercersburg Academy Chapel. Long Acres Alpaca Farm is a heavenly spot and home to award-winning huacaya alpacas. The views are amazing, and the alpaca are so sweet. While

Shippensburg is another lovely town, settled by Scots-Irish immigrants in the 1730s. Shared by Franklin County and Cumberland County, and named in Norman Crampton’s book, 100 Best Small Towns in America, Shippensburg is wellknown as a college town. Throughout all seasons and year after year, beautiful Old Main stands as a hallmark of the University and the town of Shippensburg. In the mood for a hike, step onto the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail at Shippensburg Township Park, 304 Britton Road, The trail travels 11 miles to Newville. Walk as much or as little as you want. Enjoy walking, jogging, biking, horeseback riding, and non-motorized uses. Be sure to see Rachel’s Country Store as featured on National Geographic’s show for a marvelous selection of Old Order Amish goods. The whole family will like Tiny World, a miniature display of a town, complete with a town hall, fire station, and school. It is viewable year-round but amazing to see lit from Thanksgiving to New Years. you are in Mercersburg, check out the outstanding Moon Dog Pottery shop just outside of town. Check the PA Opry’s schedule to see if you can catch a Branson-Style variety show at The Star Theatre.

A fine-looking old factory town, Waynesboro’s prosperity developed as industry developed. Laid out by John Wallace in 1797, the town was first called Mount Vernon, then Wallacetown, Waynesburg, Waynesborough, and finally Waynesboro in 1831. Part of the unique beauty of Waynesboro is in the difference of the palatial, Victorian-era homes and the simple houses of the working-class people. Toasts & Blessings Weddings give life to all sorts of memories. Any

part of the nuptials can create a special moment for the bride and groom, families and friends to recall warmly in years to come. A genuine toast or a certain blessing can bring lasting and personal meaning to your wedding day. Wedding toasts are as much a part of the wedding as I do. Traditional etiquette gives the first toast to the father of the bride, then the groom toasts the bride, and the best man toasts the groom. Today, traditional order is being replaced by a more contemporary order where the best man offers the first toast, followed by the maid/ matron of honor and can even include the mothers of the bride and groom. In fact, any member of the wedding party can offer a toast. Also remember, another chance for wedding toasts is the rehearsal dinner. The host of the dinner usually begins the toasts, and from there, everyone can join in the praises. Sometimes it is difficult to pull together feelings and thoughts in a concise toast. A good way to convey sentiment is with a well-suited quote. Here a few possibilities: The best thing to hold onto in life is each other. -Audrey Hepburn Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful and endures through every circumstance. -1 Corinthians 13:7 May all your troubles be little ones. -Irish proverb I wish you all the joy you can wish. -William Shakespeare’s” Merchants of Venice”

With a multicultural society, so many kinds of

weddings are possible, and honoring family heritage is a good way to add a little extra to your wedding. Or, perhaps the bride and groom have a special affinity to a foreign country or even plan honeymooning there. Then, sharing a blessing from that heritage can add special meaning. Here are a few some blessings from different cultures.

Wishing you A house full of sunshine, Hearts full of cheer, Love that grows deeper, each day of the year. -From an Old Welsh Blessing Now you will feel no rain for each of you will be shelter for the other. Now you will feel no cold for each of you will be warm for the other. -Apache Blessing May the raindrops fall lightly on your brow, May the soft winds freshen your spirit, May the sunshine brighten your heart, May the burdens of the day rest lightly upon you, And may God enfold you in the mantle of His love. -Irish Blessing May the best you’ve ever seen Be the worst you’ll ever see. May the mouse never leave your pantry With a tear-drop in his eye. May you always keep healthy and hearty Until you’re old enough to die. May you always be just as happy As we wish you now to be. -Scottish Wedding Blessing (translated from dialect) May God be with you and bless you. May you see your children’s children. May you be poor in misfortunes and rich in blessings. May you know nothing but happiness from this day forward. -Old Irish Blessing
