Downtown Miami should be a place where citizens and visitors identify with the city. The project aim is to create this link by placing a media library and meeting point for entrepreneurs to promote future public and private initiatives. The building would develop a program for the exchange of knowledge and ideas in the field of new applied technologies to respond to the new challenges of our society from different views (locally and globally) about science, business, art, technology, humanities... The building takes the form of an arc as a new icon for Miami. The project goes out of the limits and gets into the sea as a bridge between the present and the future. Symbol of the gate to knowledge that, would become a new agora for the city.

Downtown debe ser un lugar donde los ciudadnos y visitantes se puedan identificar con la ciudad de Miami. El propósito del proyecto es crear este vínculo ubicando una mediateca y punto de encuentro para emprendedores con el fin de promover tanto iniciativas públicas como privadas. El edificio desarrollaría un programa para el intercambio de conocimientos e ideas en el campo de nuevas tecnologías para responder a los nuevos desafíos de nuestra sociedad desde diferentes puntos de vista (ciencias, negocios, arte, tecnologías , humanidades...). El edificio toma la forma de un arco como muevo icono para la ciudad de Miami. EL proyecto se sale de los límites invadiendo el mar, simbolizando un puente entre el presente y el futuro o una puerta del conocimiento que daría lugar a una nueva ágora para la ciudad.

STATEMENT The building is a part of the living history of the movements for peace activists in New York. The new project should preserve it as a symbol of resistance, as a testimony of the work and actions that have been developed over the past. Given the rapidly changing values of the society we live in, seems important to remember that our convictions are rooted in the history of those who for years have worked hard for the defense of peace, freedom and equality. The architecture evokes the history and its prevalence gives strength and meaning to the values it represents. However, rehabilitation can not be reduced to a mere facelift making it necessary to adapt to the functional needs of the new program and new environmental requirements. The new project has respected the basic structure of the old building and its facades. Only one of the staircases was changed to improve communication and access to the building. The new staircase respects the directionality of the original structure and leads to a new free distribution of spaces and relations. BLEECKER St. FACADE [Fachada Bleecker St.]

Functional program: The entrance hall should facilitate public access to the new offices of the peace pentagon, fitting out a small area with a coffee shop where you can buy newspapers and books. The rest of the ground floor, except for communication and common services, shoud be used for commercial purposes in order to rent them. The basement will host the Muste Institute Library where exhibitions, assemblies, and meetings also could take place. The basement is open to the entrance floor by a double space that allows visual communication from the coffee shop and Lafayette street. The next two floors will host the offices for the tenants and organizations settled in a free disposition in order to permit inner interaction with a better use of space and an easier communication.Tenant distribution would be divided in proportion to their needs. The last two floors would be dedicated to the new Muste Institute for Peace Studies. The Peace Pentagon, in collaboration with the university. would become a center for peace studies. This post degree course would focus in the research about peace, poverty, development, international cooperation and activism. Students interested in such subjects would be in the perfect place to be able to collaborate as volunteers.
MEMORIA: El edificio es una parte de la historia viva de los movimientos activistas por la paz en Nueva York. El nuevo proyecto debe preservarlo como un símbolo de resistencia, como un testimonio del trabajo y las acciones que se han desarrollado a lo largo del pasado. Dados los valores cambiantes de la sociedad en que vivimos, parece importante recordar que nuestras convicciones están enraizadas en la historia de los que durante años han trabajado duro para la defensa de la paz, la libertad y la igualdad. La arquitectura evoca la historia y su prevalencia da fuerza y significado a los valores que representa. Sin embargo, la rehabilitación no puede reducirse a un mero lavado de cara por lo que es necesario adaptarse a las necesidades funcionales del nuevo programa y nuevas exigencias medioambientales. El nuevo proyecto ha respetado la estructura básica del edificio antiguo y sus fachadas. Sólo una de las escaleras ha sido cambiada para mejorar la comunicación y la accesibilidad al edificio. Dicha escalera respeta la direccionalidad de la estructura original y conduce a una nueva libre distribución de los espacios y las relaciones.

PROGRAMA FUNCIONAL: La entrada al edificio debe facilitar el acceso del público a las oficinas para ello se ha habilitando una pequeña zona con cafetería donde se pueden comprar periódicos y libros. El resto de la planta baja, a excepción de los servicios comunes, se alquilará para fines comericales. El sótano albergará la Biblioteca del Instituto Muste donde exposiciones, asambleas y reuniones también podrían tener lugar. El sótano está abierto a la planta de entrada por un doble espacio que permite la comunicación visual con cafetería y la calle Lafayette. Las siguientes dos plantas albergarán las oficinas para los inquilinos y organizaciones que estarán ubicados en un espacio diáfano con el fin de permitir la interacción interna con un mejor aprovechamiento del espacio y una comunicación más fácil para el público. La distribución de Inquilinos se dividiría en proporción a sus necesidades. Las dos últimas plantas se dedicarán al nuevo Instituto Muste para Estudios sobre la Paz. El Pentágono Paz, en colaboración con la universidad. se convertiría en un centro de estudios sobre la paz. Este curso postgrado se centraría en la investigación sobre la paz, la pobreza, el desarrollo, la cooperación internacional y el activismo. Los estudiantes interesados en estos temas sería en el lugar perfecto para poder colaborar como voluntarios.

The metromover station due to its location, should be designed to become an urban and architectural element able to bind and link the existing urban fabric to the Bicentennial park. The architecture of the new station is intended as a visual reference easily discernible from the areas adjacent to the park. It is a sculptural intervention that evokes movement, and transparence, interacting with both, public transport users and outer spectators. The proposal tries to solve the problems of connection between the station and the access to new museums square. It also tries to extend the park beyond the metromover tracks in order to link the museums with the existing Arts Center at the other side of the highway.

La estación del Metromover debe ser un elemento urbano y arquitectónico capaz de unir y vincular la trama existente al parque del Bicentenario. La arquitectura de esta nueva estación se proyecta como una referencia fácilmente discernible desde las áreas adyacentes al parque. Es una intervención escultural que evoca el movimiento y la transparencia haciendo partícipes de esta experiencia tanto a los usuarios del transporte público como a los visitantes. La propuesta intenta resolver mediante rampas los problemas de conexión entre la estación y la plaza de acceso a los nuevos museos. Así msmo también se pretende extender el parque más allá de las vías del tram y establecer una nueva comunicación con el Centro de Artes ubicado al otro lado de la autovía. The orthogonal urban foundational system of ancient medieval town, sets the architecture of the place. The project has been ordered from these same guidelines trying to define three areas: -THE THRESHOLD OF THE OLD TOWN The Main Old Square is closed by a lattice and so regains its original proportions. This enclosure becomes a threshold working at the same time as an access to the new public space or as an entrance to the old city.

-THE AGORA The pergolas extend crosswise from the arcaded square delimiting the agora up to the facade of the townhall building. The monument of the king is located in the same place, without losing its main central role. As a counterpoint to this hierarchical arrangement, palm trees move sinuously along the longitudinal axis formed by the covered ramps defining the other side of the square. -THE STREETS Peripheral areas beside the square, broaden the streets emphasizing the existing urban fabric. The lines of trees and the clay paving help shape these transition zones that connect the agora with the urban facades. Behind the Townhall, the street has been designed as an outdoor parking for vehicles of the municipal services.

La trama ortogonal, como sistema fundacional urbano de la antigua ciudad medieval, configura la arquitectura del lugar. El proyecto se ha ordenado a partir de esas mismas directrices intentando definir tres ámbitos: EL UMBRAL DE LA VILA La plaza de la Vila se cierra mediante una celosía y recobra así su proporción original. Este cerramiento la convierte en un umbral, es al mismo tiempo, acceso al nuevo espacio público y puerta de entrada a la ciudad vieja.
VIEW FROM THE ARCADED SQUARE [Vista desde la plaza porticada]
EL ÁGORA Las pérgolas, que se prolongan a partir de la plaza porticada, se extienden en cruz delimitando el ágora. El monumento del Rei Jaume I se ubica, en el mismo lugar, sin perder su carácter central y protagonista. Como contrapunto a esta jerárquica disposición, unas jardineras-fuentes se ubican sinuosamente a lo largo del eje longitudinal acabando de definir el límite de la plaza con las rampas cubiertas del aparcamiento subterráneo.
LA VÍA PÚBLICA Los espacios periféricos, a los lados de la gran plaza, dan amplitud a las calles existentes remarcando el trazado de los viales. Las líneas de arbolado y el pavimento de adoquín cerámico ayudan a conformar estas zonas de transición con los frentes de las fachada. La calle trasera al edificio del ayuntamiento, se ha dotado de un aparcamiento exterior para los vehículos de los servicios municipales. VIEWS [vistas]

The degree project theme came out from the contest for the new Congress Hall and Auditorium of Peñíscola. The site was planned to be located at the end of a housing block in front of the lagoon park. The main facade line of the project moves backward in order to gain an entrance public space that also conforms a link to the existing park. Four volumes ordered the disposition of the building:
El tema del proyecto final de carrera salió del concurso para la nueva Sala de Congresos y Auditorio de Peñíscola. El solar estaba ubicado en el extremo de una manzana de viviendas enfrentadas al parque del estanque. La principal línea de fachada del proyecto se desplaza hacia atrás con el fin de obtener un espacio público de entrada vinculado también con el parque existente. Cuatro volúmenes ordenan la disposición del edificio:
1) Entrance hall and foyer. 2) administration and services. 3) Auditorium box. 4) Storage, dressing rooms, parking entrance and loading truck area.

The auditorium box was designed to be able to be configured for different purposes depending on the type of event taking place. In this way the auditorium can be divided in two smaller halls thanks to a mobile wall placed over the stage. Seats in the rear hall are removable, so a bigger stage can be possible if required.

La caja del auditorio se diseñó para poder tener una configuración flexible dependiendo de las necesidades del evento programado. De este modo la sala se puede dividir en dos más pequeñas gracias a un tabique móvil situado sobre el escenario. Los asientos posteriores son desmontables y permiten un mayor espacio escénico si es necesario.
