Fresh Cuts for Rotten Genitals

Ancon (Locative Collage, 2022) The Repsol oil spill in Lima’s sea is the worst ecological disaster that the Peruvian capital has experienced in recent times. The spill of 6,000 barrels of crude oil occurred in an offshore infrastructure of the La Pampilla refinery, hours after the eruption of the underwater volcano in Tonga. The situation risked flora and fauna in two protected natural areas within more than 18,000 square km and inflicted serious harm to hundreds of fishermen’s families. A spokesperson for Repsol, denied it should accept responsibility for the incident. “We did not cause this ecological disaster and we cannot say who is responsible,” she told.

Burn The Congress (Analog Collage 2020) November 2020: Peru sinks into political uncertainty after Congress voted to oust President Martín Vizcarra from office. This happened while the country battled one of the world’s worst outbreaks of Covid-19 in the world. The political crisis left the country in the hands of corrupt politicians who were orchestrating a coup to obtain power. The impeachment took the nation by surprise but everyone took the streets.

Fast Fashion (Analog Collage 2022) Fast fashion relies on globalization and like all exploitative industries, is built on poverty wages and sweatshop conditions to generate huge profits with low production costs. From Bangalore to Leicester, the fashion industry is built upon the mass exploitation of those who work within its supply chains. These working conditions are no mere flaws of individual factories, but they are driven by an industry practice of pushing for the lowest price and shortest lead times in an eternal race to the bottom. These are the real fashion victims.

Fujimori (Analog Collage 2022) In 2022 Peru’s top court issued a ruling to release the former authoritarian president Alberto Fujimori from prison, where he has served less than 15 years of a 25-year sentence for committing human rights abuses during his dictatorship in the 1990s. This ruling was an insult to his victims and a blow to efforts to end impunity for the rich and powerful in Peru, where four former presidents face money laundering and corruption charges that could imprison them for several years. Fujimori has not acknowledged guilt in any of his convictions and has not paid any of the millions of dollars that he owes the Peruvian state as civil reparations, and now he walks like a free man. Victims’ rights to justice once again is inexistent in this country.

Keiko (Analog Collage 2021) Keiko Fujimori, Peru’s right-wing presidential candidate, has a criminal process for money laundering, organized crime, obstruction of justice and the public prosecutor is asking to put 34 of her cohorts in prison for laundering money. She leads the polls. . Let’s not forget that her father, Alberto Fujimori, while being dictator sterilized indigenous women, disappeared people, rigged the elections, cancelled the educational reform, bought the press, bought judges, shielded pedophiles, killed, tortured, and stole 6 billions from Peru.

Motherland (Analog Collage 2021) Autopsies performed on decomposed or even exhumed bodies can provide vital new information, depending on the extent of decomposition. Corruption is moral decay, so, in the eve of Peru’s national holiday, I performed an autopsy to learn more about my country. Sadly, I found violence towards women, overexploitation of our natural resources, clusters of bribery and fraud but also, lots of hope and optimism. This is my reinterpretation of the Peruvian Coat of Arms.

Terraforming (Analog Collage 2012) It was Carl Sagan who came up with the concept of terraforming. It’s the hypothetical process of deliberately modifying the atmosphere, temperature, surface topography or ecology of a planet to make it habitable by humans. Since we humans enjoy so much to live around our own garbage and filth, I figured out this is what it would look like if we ever manage to terraform any planet.

Talibans (Analog Collage 2019) The U.S. military departed the country on Aug. 30, 2021 a day ahead of schedule, ending a 20-year occupation and leaving Afghanistan in the Taliban’s hands. With Taliban gunmen controlling the streets of Kabul and other cities, dread has set in across the capital and elsewhere in Afghanistan.

Pope Francis (Analog Collage 2019) Pope Francis criticized couples who choose to have pets instead of children as selfish, arguing that their decision to forgo parenthood leads to a loss of "humanity" and is a detriment to civilization. And I totally get it from a marketing point of view because pets don’t expand the consumer base of the church but I think the pope should worry less about me having kids and more about stopping his mates from raping them.

Knife (Analog Collage on knife, 2019) About half of Peruvian women between the ages of 15 and 49 have experienced some form of violence from their partners. Peru reported nearly 16,500 cases of violence against women and girls between March and December; while calls into the country’s emergency sexual violence hotline almost doubled in 2019. In Peru it’s scary to be a woman.

CoronaYeezus (Analog Collage 2020) When Peru began a state of total lockdown in an effort to stop the spread of Covid-19 many religious people were convinced that the power of god would prevent them from catching the virus. They were proved wrong.

Constitution (intervened Peruvian Constitution, 2017) The current Peruvian constitution (1993) was born under the Fujimori dictatorship and only perpetuates the networks of corruption in the country, therefore, it does not represent the interests of the Peruvian people.

Animal Testing (Analog Collage 2021) Chanel Beauty sells its products in stores in mainland China where animal testing is mandatory for most imported cosmetics. As a result, Chanel pays and allows its products to be tested on animals when required by law. Other brands that aren’t cruelty-free: L’Oreal, Estée Lauder, MAC, Lancôme, Maybelline,Revlon, Marc Jacobs, Max Factor, Giorgio Armani, Tom Ford, Yves Saint Laurent,Sephora, Dior, Avon, Mary Kay, Dolce & Gabbana.
