Social Issues in Pygmalion and the Importance of Being Earnest Society is composed of various people who hail from different backgrounds, races and socioeconomic statuses. People in society learn to interact with one another through social activities such as ceremonies, education and work. However, some society's people lack harmony to co–exist. The lack of peace and harmony among members in society leads to social issues. Social issues can therefore be defined as problems that influence certain people in society and are deemed as undesirable (Thomas and Azmitia). Sociologists identify these problems as those that undermine a certain group of people in society. Social issues have existed in society since time in memorial. Racism is one of the rampant social issues that continue to destruct our society. Due to the existence of these social issues, sociologists and humanitarians aim at creating awareness and finding solutions to these problems. Awareness has been raised through books, films and campaigns. Examples of plays that talk about social issues are Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw and Oscar Wilde's, The Importance of Being Earnest. With reference to both plays, we shall look at the social issue of class difference. It also makes up for some of the states that can't plant crops or do as much farming due to their environment and/or landscape. Another positive is if there is a loss of crops in other parts of the United States, Iowa could carry the weight of those lost crops but it can also be a negative because if Iowa is one of those states that is experiencing the loss of crops then that is a big portion of the corn and soybeans being planted for that year. Another negative would be only being able to farm for a certain part of the year because you only plant two crops which could lead to less jobs and a decrease in the state of Iowa's economy. The NAEP also presents the trend of "achievement scores broken down by type of community"(p.34) and from what Steinberg says, based on the data, there is no way we can fool ourselves into thinking that our "educational problems are limited to poor, minority youngsters attending inner–city schools" (p.35).

This fact alone puts us in jeopardy, for as the success of America's economy will more and more come to depend upon highly skilled employees, our competitiveness will be linked more to our ability to bring forth a highly educated work force (p.38). Because of this disengagement problem, America will fall behind on the international level because our students are ill–equipped. A social problem is normally a term used to describe problems with a particular area or group of people in the world. Social problems often involve problems that affect real life. It also affects how people react to certain situations. While differences in racial/ethnic prejudices have been explored extensively in past literature (e.g. Bobo and Zubrinksy's 1996, study of differential prejudices directed toward Hispanic and Black individuals), little U.S. research has investigated how attitudes toward lesbians, gays, bisexual men, bisexual women, and male–to–female (MtF) and female–to–male (FtM) transgender (henceforth "LGBT") may differ ( Marcus, 2015).

Social justice that is face among the LGBT is discrimination. Variations in family structures include single–parent families, step families, blended families, and intergenerational families. Lesbian, gay, and bisexual families experience a special risk of discrimination.A major problem gay people face is homophobia–an extreme and irrational fear of lesbian and gay people simply because they are lesbian and gay. LGB people are one of the primary groups at risk of discrimination and oppression (Kirst–Ashman, 2013).

Imagine having to work seven days a week, putting in more than forty hours, only to come back to an unstable living situation and still have barely enough to get by. For many people, they remain in this cycle of poverty for the rest of their lives. There is no light at the end of their tunnel, but instead more obstacles that they must overcome. Poverty, like other social divisions, is something that continues to plague society, and while it is most likely impossible to completely eradicate it, certain actions on the part of people who are not in poverty can be done in order to elevate those who within that state of poverty, and therefore improve the overall happiness. Poverty, as a social issue, needs to be embraced and accepted in order for its debilitating effects to be minimized, therefore improving the quality of life for all people. In Ascher's piece, the author doesn't necessarily highlight the experience of poverty, but more so how people who are not in those kinds of conditions respond to it, as evidenced by the two particular encounters that the author illustrates. There are two responses in dealing with those who are impoverished. One revolves the idea of isolation, in that people do whatever it takes in order to remove themselves from the presence of these individuals, and attempt to push these people out of society. I assume the audience to this response piece is quite diverse, as the amount of detail given can be shaped to suit many people. The reason for this assumption is due to the title; it contains the words "feminism" and "men's rights," and because of that it sparks the interest of all genders (Holding, 2013). In A scientist's view: equality, feminism and men's rights, Holding states that "the world is against men," to which he elaborates by using the example of a man who had been turned away from Legoland because he was not accompanying a child at the amusement park (Holding, 2013). Theme Essay – The Outsiders "The Outsiders" identifies the 60's, illustrating the violence between groups, often involving a group's social class. For instance, the violent tensions between the Socs and Greasers lead to Bob's death, Johnny's death, as well as many injuries throughout both gangs. The book "The Outsiders" is written by S.E. In the example of Obesity, an individual's obesity can be wrongly viewed as their own personal trouble but when viewed at a broader spectrum, it is noted that there is a variety of social issues involved which transforms it from a personal trouble to a social phenomenon. In addition to Mills' ideas, there has been a significant amount of research which suggests obesity is a social phenomenon. Social Issue Analysis

In this essay, I interview subject (x) based on topics of political issues of (a) role of government, (b) economic, (c) social, (d) military and (e) environment. I interview and analyzed responses to determine what extent does my interviewee conform to ideological categories of left or right. The interviewee is a white male 65 year's old, retiree and resides in Bayside, Wisconsin. The interviewee has a bachelor's degree, divorced, once a brewery worker, has one son and is currently disabled. The questioned presented first a general and broad. I then relayed a relevant current event question that tied in with the overall subject. This approach I discovered became useful in determining what ideology the subject sided with.

In regards to the role of government the interviewee tended to be one sided revealing leftist or the Democratic ideology. I asked, "Do you support a large government or a small government?" The subject responded that the "government needs to be larger and more involved in regulation to end corruption." In this question the subject's response sides with the left, "which believes in expanded government, and the right believes in limited government" (Hey). This concept of regulation mentioned in the response, sides with the Democratic platform, "the...show more content... The question was asked "whether they supported same–sex marriage?" The respondent said the "he supports it and it doesn't bother me or offend me, as long as they are happy their rights should not be denied." On this issue the subject supported the Democratic platform of supporting "marriage equality and support the movement" on the basis "to secure equal treatment under law for same sex couples" (Cooper). The topic of abortion was flipped, the subject said they did not support abortion in any condition. For this reason the subject would side with the Republicans who "support banning abortion"
