Foreword Holidays are not merely a break from routine; they play a crucial role in fostering our overall well-being and the benefits they offer are multifaceted. A coastal retreat offers an opportunity for renewal, allowing us to recharge and return to our responsibilities with fresh perspective. Exposure to new environments and experiences are essential for mind and body, and in Cornwall that embraces Blue Mind theory. The healing power of the water can slow our breathing and heart rate, taking us into an almost meditative state. There are a plethora of retreats across the Duchy that offer sanctuary from the everyday. Stays in these unique locations are a place to call your own; a place to which you can return at the end of a day’s exploration; a place where you can assimilate the memories of a day well spent. Boutique Retreats

(8) are specialists in creating a world of wanderlust with their enviable portfolio of properties, giving guests the versatility of a self-catering stay. For those who prefer to be pampered, St Michaels Resort (20) creates a Cornish coastal symphony of stay, spa and sumptuous dining in a luxury hotel setting. In contrast, Wooda Farm (26) – although no less luxurious – combines eco-lodges and coastal cottages with an intimate connection to nature. From coastal paths to urban wanderings, the Penventon Hotel (38) brings more than just a touch of decadence to city streets with its gilded grandeur and glitz. For those seeking the solace of the ocean, Watergate Bay Hotel (62) is the place where balance is restored just yards from the ocean breakers. Whatever the retreat of your dreams, allow DRIFT to be your companion on an accommodation odyssey.

lifetime. The team at Boutique Retreats know that these moments mean so much more than just ‘getting away’, and take pride in creating spaces in which to journey away from reality, to reconnect with a true life balance and together craft memories lined with romance and magic.

oments spent together in a quiet world away from the noise of reality are hard to come by lately. Life around us rushes by; we delve into plans for our homes, our jobs, our futures, but how often do we take time to press pause on the flickering reel of our lives to sit back and take it all in with the person we’ve built it all around? When an opportunity comes along to take that much-loved hand into your own and lead them to a place where time stands still, if only for a little while, there’s nothing to do but hold onto it tight, and that’s where Boutique Retreats comes in.

Take Cabin on the Cliff, for example. Lovingly designed and hand-crafted on the cliffs of Whitsand Bay, bare to the elements and the mesmerising views of the sea, this dog-friendly couples’ retreat is the pinnacle of romantic seaside living. Each detail of this eco-cabin has been carefully considered, from the natural wood feel throughout around polished concrete floors to the most sumptuous sofa to sink into and share a moment in front of the crackling fire, watching the waves on the horizon. Moor was once a place for local children to come and discover the joy of reading. Today, it’s been transformed into a charming stone cottage just made for two, edged with the perfect privacy that comes Cornish countryside and marked with a trickling stream nearby to set the racing mind at ease. As you may imagine, this comfortable country setting provides a haven for readers looking to curl up together within the safety of walls adorned with original features and inspired by times gone by, remote from all but each other’s company and the stories you share. Adventure seekers are also drawn to the comfort of The Old Reading Room after a day on the moors, to rest together in tranquillity before the next adventure calls.

double-sided woodburner to soak in the deep copper tub as you watch the embers crackle before folding yourself into the warm embrace of a cosy bed just moments away to share quiet thoughts on the day now gone, and wonder what might await in the one to come. Another one for lovers of the calm coastal setting of Whitsand Bay, Esperance invites astonished delight at the 180-degree sea views surrounding this soulful sanctuary. With a sun-drenched deck just made for al-fresco dining in front of a glittering ocean backdrop, romance mists the air like the salt from the sea, and the bubbling hot tub calls to star-crossed lovers who wish to lie back and take in the sparkling night sky with a glass of something cold in hand. When the weather is wonderfully wild, where better to take in the beauty of the natural world than a plump sofa aimed right at the expanse of water beyond with a fire to warm your toes, or perhaps from under the safety of the bed covers as the rain taps a friendly pattern at the window, books and cups of tea nearby?

Journeying to the very heart of Bodmin Moor, few are lucky enough to stumble upon the warm invitation of Smugglers, hidden away from the hustle and bustle of today. Clad in larch and with the wildness of the moors all around, nature seekers are sure to find bliss in the arms of this secret retreat. Gently awaken to the warm glow of sunrise through the French doors of the bedroom, and after a day spent out in the stretch of country all around, with

no one to intrude on conversations shared as you wander hand in hand, return to welcome twilight as it descends over the land from the healing warmth of a wood-fired hot tub, taking in what it truly means to be outside.

Elegant, feminine and offering nothing but bliss, Pearl resides right where you might picture, in the heart of the stunning oyster that is Marazion. With none other than St Michael’s Mount taking centre stage amongst the spectacular coastal view, many a breath has been whisked away at the sweeping vista. Pale, natural tones permeate the space inside, evoking peaceful thoughts as you contemplate your bewitching surroundings. While there is space to take in the world on the covered terrace, perhaps the best spot from which to enjoy the location is the freestanding bathtub made for two, placed perfectly to enjoy the view through the aperture of a wide window, as the stresses of day-to-day life ebb away.

For anyone looking to remove themselves even further, The Sea Room is about as remote as you could imagine, aptly named to reflect its privileged position on the very edge of the water, just six miles west of Fowey. Accessible only by boat or footpath, you can be sure of blissful isolation with the one you love most. Wander down to the shore, where a private shingle beach will reveal itself at low tide, tempting you to dip a toe and revel in the cool moonlight as it dances on the dark water across St Austell Bay at night. The warm glow of The Sea Room will draw you back to safety, like a lighthouse at sea, pulling you into the comfort of the open-plan sitting room, lined with well-stacked bookshelves and a fire to warm the soul. Crowned with exposed rafters and with views out across the bay, the king-size bed invites uninterrupted slumber, with nothing but the sound of the sea lapping the shore to lull you to sleep.

Dotted throughout Cornwall, Devon and the rest of the UK, there are spaces just like this, and yet each is perfectly unique. When it all feels a little heavy, and the only thing to do is seek sanctuary in each other somewhere far away from the weight of reality, to forget the world just for a while, Boutique Retreats knows just the place. boutique-retreats.co.uk

Combining luxury with an abundance of traditional charm, this hotel gifts each guest with the feeling of coming home.

T

ucked away in a secluded bay on the south Cornish coast is The Nare, a quiet and quintessentially English country house enveloped in sea breezes and seclusion. The hotel has been privately owned by the same family for over 30 years who have forged a passion for generous hospitality since it first came into their hands. Built in the 1920s, the property was purchased by Bettye Gray in 1988 as a retirement project. Over the coming years, under the steam of General Manageress Daphne Burt, the reputation and quality of the hotel greatly improved. Now under the ownership of Bettye’s grandson, Toby Ashworth and his immediate family, The Nare’s welcoming reputation continues to thrive.

From luxury hotels to boutique retreats, Cornwall is rich with places to stay. Aside from its traditional hotelier practice and charming yet high-quality service, what makes The Nare so unique is its location. Situated on the Roseland Peninsula, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the south coast differs drastically from the more popular north coast; what it lacks in good surfing spots, it more than makes up for in never-ending stretches of calm safe beaches. Perfect for families and coast path walkers, here you can spend your days fishing, sailing and swimming before returning to the sanctuary of The Nare which so effortlessly exudes the undisturbed beauty and peacefulness of its surroundings.

Barman Ken Cracknell, has been crafting cocktails in the hotel for over 40 years. It is this unfaltering team of friendly staff that is the key ingredient in making The Nare a purveyor of genuine, thoughtful and unaffected comfort.

All of the bright and spacious rooms and suites are individually decorated with the refinements of a well-run country house; expect comfy armchairs, a plethora of books, fresh flowers and plump beds overlooking the Atlantic as it stretches into the horizon. Beyond lift access to the first floor and accessible ground floor rooms, all residents, from families and couples to four-legged friends and solo travellers are catered for. Upon arrival, your bags are taken to your room and unpacked if desired. In addition to a full valet and evening turndown service, guests are given a choice of sheets and duvets to choose from and the provision of water bottles throughout the winter months, not to mention extra touches of luxury that make your stay truly special. With traditional shoe cleaning, in-house laundry and 24-hour room service, The Nare expertly blends the unobtrusive charm of a classic country house with the comfort points of a five-star hotel.

In addition to its comfortable and elegant interiors, The Nare offers an extensive range of leisure facilities and bespoke activities for guests to indulge in during their stay. When the colder weather prevents you from utilising the sun loungers and refreshing water of the outdoor pool, the heated indoor pool awaits. Complete with its own jet stream, hydrotherapy spa, sauna and steam room, you could easily while away the hours in the warm water before retreating to the Carne Bay Spa for a menu of relaxing treatments designed to relax and rejuvenate. For something more active, head to the gardens for an afternoon of fun on the tennis court or croquet lawn, overlooking the breathtaking coast. The Nare is also lucky enough to have its own resident artist Jeanni, an enthusiastic and innovative freelancer and former art teacher who believes everyone can paint or sketch if shown how. She offers art and painting tuition for guests, either individually or in groups; her passion for art is infectious and her lessons from one-hour tasters or daily sessions are always popular. If you wish to venture outside the grounds of The Nare, then the best that Cornwall has

The attentiveness and ambient charm of The Nare wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of the long-term staff who form a small yet strong team. Despite retiring as General Manageress in 2000, Daphne Burt remains as a family confidante and loyal, steadying influence for the next generation. Deputy General Manager, Julie Johns is a familiar face for returning guests over the decades, having been employed by the original owners in the 1980s while Head

practice, The Nare is also one of a small number of southwest hotels to offer a daily five-course silver service dining experience in addition to daily afternoon tea in the drawing room. Eating at The Nare is a luxurious experience, having established a reputation for fine dining over many years with both the Quarterdeck restaurant and Dining Room receiving recognition for culinary excellence. Cornwall itself has become a destination for some of the finest chefs and restaurants in the country, owing much to the excellent local produce on offer both from the land and sea. When it comes to seafood dishes and locally sourced Cornish beef, The Nare has some of the best on offer with its renowned Sunday lunch not to be missed. Menus are carefully crafted to offer classic and contemporary dishes, designed to delight every diner. In addition to culinary excellence, the hotel is home to an extensive cellar offering wines from around the world. These have been selected and laid down with the experience and insight of Toby Ashworth who has also included several of the best wines from local vineyards, owing much of their success to the subtropical climate of the south Cornish coast. In springtime, many guests delight in visiting the great gardens of the Duchy to which the hotel has a strong affiliation, like The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Trebah and the Eden Project, all of which offer a tropical escape to paradise. When the sun is shining, The Nare’s very own Carne beach becomes the main attraction, with countless opportunities to explore the acres of golden sand, spend time in the sparkling water, or simply relax by the rugged coast. Seafarers have the option of enjoying the Alice Rose, a 38-foot motor launch, offering scheduled and private chartered sailings from April to September. The Nare’s proprietor, Toby Ashworth is always keen to spend summer afternoons on the water with guests exploring the Fal and Helford rivers surrounded by a panorama of idyllic countryside and all-encompassing bliss. In the quieter off-season, the South West Coast Path is a highlight for many as the perfect spot for stormy wave watching and long refreshing walks. After some time in the fresh air, return to the warm embrace of the hotel and spend your afternoon sipping tea, coffee, or something a little stronger in front of the open log fire. Wellness has always lain at the heart of St Michaels Resort. Its spa facilities are a testament to this dedication, offering a range of treatments that cater to both physical and mental well-being. Home to the largest hydrothermal pool in the south west, this oasis of warm water has 21 massage stations and is complemented by a herbal Finnish sauna, experience showers and Cornwall’s only sea salt steam rooms. Guests can indulge in rejuvenating massages, skin-nourishing facials, and a variety of wellness rituals that draw inspiration from both traditional and contemporary practices. The spa’s serene ambiance, coupled with skilled practitioners, creates an oasis of calm where guests can unwind and embark on a journey of self-discovery.

After a hugely successful calendar of wellness retreats last year, 2024 will see the return of St Michael’s active Cornish breaks. Level-two Wim Hof instructor Cat Paterson, will once again host a four-day journey of self-discovery, learning how the power of breathwork, mindfulness and cold-water endurance combine to bring about a lasting, positive change in the way we live our lives. Open water swim coach Salim Ahmed will lead a wild swimming break, where guests will take to the calm waters of Gylly Beach under his expert tutelage. For those preferring to stay above the water rather than in it, Brendon Prince of The Long Paddle, who has paddled every inch of the British coast will accompany guests on a stand-up paddle board exploration around the coast. The Beach Yoga break is always hugely popular and is an opportunity to indulge in a combination of yoga and mindfulness. All Active Breaks are inclusive of sumptuous coastal accommodation, a two-hour Hydrothermal Experience and spa access, complementary health club gym and swim, a daily Cornish breakfast and dinner on each evening.

Beyond the pool area, the newly refurbished south-facing spa garden now includes a cold plunge pool and large step-down hot tub. The landscaping echoes the nearby coastal path, with tall grasses nodding in the breeze amongst a sea of deep blue agapanthus. St Michaels also boasts the largest and best-equipped health club in Cornwall, whose next-level facilities are in demand by an oft-oversubscribed 2500-member base.

A Cornish culinary journey also awaits guests at St Michaels Resort, where sourcing local is more than just a whim. A large proportion of all fresh produce used in the kitchens is local and this is reflected in the Brasserie on the Bay’s rolling three-night menu. The ‘catch of the day’ is landed by local boats and comes fresh from Newlyn Fish Market each morning. Pork from Primrose Herd is slow reared on the hills of west Cornwall, with Westcountry Farms supplying fresh salad and vegetables, to name just a few. Under the watchful eye of Executive Head Chef Darren Millgate, the chefs at St Michaels take pride in presenting dishes that not only satisfy the palate but also reflect the rich culinary heritage of Cornwall, with an emphasis on quality, flavour and creativity. Whether indulging in a leisurely brunch in the Garden Kitchen or a romantic dinner overlooking the sea, guests can expect an appetising adventure that complements the overall ethos of the resort.

St Michaels isn’t just a place of wellness and relaxation, but also a launchpad for exploration and adventure beyond the resort. Its prime location allows guests to explore Falmouth town, with its rich maritime history, art galleries and vibrant local culture. For those with a penchant for history, nearby landmarks such as Pendennis Castle offer a glimpse into the region’s storied past. Take a stroll along the promenade and soak up the view out across Falmouth Bay, or venture further afield along the South West Coast Path, taking in the beaches of Swanpool and Maenporth before rounding Rosemullion Head to the head of the Helford River. The resort’s concierge service is adept at curating personalised experiences, ensuring that guests can make the most of their stay. St Michaels Resort stands as a beacon of coastal luxury, a destination where the ebb and flow of the sea harmonises with the pursuit of wellbeing. It’s much more than a resort though; it’s an experience. The carefully curated blend of elegance and adventure is informed by its brand pillars: Cornish, coastal, wellness and relaxation. These underlying currents carry guests on a voyage of discovery, where the memories made linger long after the waves have receded. For those seeking an immersive escape, St Michaels Resort is not just a destination; it’s a coastal symphony of bliss.

St Michael’s cellar collection is no less impressive and, of course, includes some of Cornwall’s finest. Camel Valley Brut and Knightor’s Carpe Diem wines lead the local charge, closely followed by local beer and cider courtesy of The Harbour Brewing Co. and Cornish Orchards. For cocktail aficionados, Loveday, Tarquins, Colwith Farm, Pocketful of Stones and Rosemullion Distillery raise the bar with a full measure of Cornish spirit.

families, as Charlotte explains: “We hope we have demonstrated that a caravan holiday can offer all the luxury and home comfort you could wish for, moving away from the preconceptions some people may have about a holiday-park getaway! Gone are the days of sub-standard holidays in static caravans on lacklustre parks, as we welcome a new age of luxury holiday homing with five-star facilities set against the backdrop of some of the most stunning scenery in the UK.”

been welcoming visitors to our fabulous family-owned farm since 1975.” The team’s five-star ethos has also won them an impressive collection of accolades, including being Best of British members, Premier Parks members, ACSI Best UK Campsite and a TripAdvisor certificate of excellence. Amongst the many things that Wooda is renowned for, perhaps one of the most important is the incredible ability to cater for pretty much everyone. From touring and camping pitches to holiday homes, luxury lodges and Cornish cottages, there is truly something for all, which Charlotte happily indulges us in: “The touring and camping side of things is close to our hearts, as this is one of the first outlets we ventured into when opening the farm up to the public. The pitches themselves offer spectacular sea and countryside views and all the five-star facilities you could wish for, including our newly renovated multi-million-pound toilet and shower block! We are extremely proud to have been voted the UK’s Best Campsite 2023 by ACSI, as well as upholding many other awards and accolades.”

The nine luxurious eco lodges on site are aptly named Gwelva Hills (Gwelva meaning ‘viewpoint’ in Cornish), and it’s certainly easy enough to see why. Perched on the top corner of the park, beautiful sweeping views out across Bude Bay set the scene through the floor-to-ceiling windows in the open-plan living area of each lodge, a stunning backdrop to a perfect getaway. Sleeping four to six people, and with dog-friendly options, the lodges remain open all year round, unlike the seasonal options of the campsite and holiday homes. Finally, three enchanting self-catering cottages complete Wooda’s accommodation collection. Each enjoying the holiday park’s facilities, Tregea and Brambles sleep ten and seven respectively, just perfect for family gatherings, whereas Pebbles, located in the traditional Cornish town of Bude itself and within walking distance to the beach, sleeps four and would make for an idyllic home from home for a couple or small family.

With a collection of over 50 holiday homes, you’ll find each one beautifully decorated and catering to a range of budgets, with dog-friendly options too. Sleeping between four and six people, with open-plan living spaces and the opportunity for a balcony from which to enjoy the sea view, these homes work particularly well for couples or young

is also the gorgeous Elsie and Rose gift shop and Sue Read’s art studio where you can pick up a piece of Cornwall for your very own.

Passionate about providing the best five-star facilities possible, naturally the team at Wooda are constantly reinvesting and updating their offering to ensure that each time their guests return, there’s always something new to look forward to. “We are lucky enough to have a large community of guests that return to us year on year (some of them have been visiting since we first opened in 1975),” Charlotte continues, “which we think is testament to the fact that we hold a special place in people’s hearts, ensuring that we provide the warmest of welcomes from a guest’s first stay, to their hundredth!”

Other facilities at the disposal of all guests include the fantastic on-site eateries, takeaway and bars, including the Loft Cocktail Bar, specialising in Cornish spirits, not to mention a great selection of family-friendly activities on site too. From Segway tours and archery during the summer holidays to tractor rides, a badminton court, tennis court, pitch ‘n’ putt, wellness barn, gym, woodland cycle trail, farm animals, games rooms, nature walk and a whole lot more, there’s always something to get you out and about, away from screens and making memories together.

When it comes to camping, you’ll find everything you could possibly need to enjoy your time away with your tent or caravan; from a superb, newly renovated toilet and shower block and the option to hire private en-suite bathroom pods, to free Wi-Fi across the site, launderettes and camper’s kitchens to name but a few. From romantic breaks for two to dog-friendly stays, child-friendly summer holidays, family gatherings and everything in between, you can rest assured that Wooda extends the warmest welcome to all, for a Cornish escape made for memories to last a lifetime. wooda.co.uk

For a luxury pet-friendly getaway, Albany in Port Isaac is as delightful as it is desirable. Styled to an exquisite standard throughout, this coastal cottage is a short walk from the village’s shops, harbourside and beach. The contemporary living area with woodburning stove is the place to unwind together, whilst the master bedroom boasts stunning views from the balcony. Perch in the room’s hanging chair whilst reading your book, with the marine vista as your backdrop, and you will feel instantly at peace. With a garage to park one car and a picture-perfect back garden with sea views and a lawn, this is a superb dog-friendly holiday home.

Exploring north Cornwall’s coastline affords an endless natural adventure playground, where quality time can be spent together as a family. Finding familyfriendly holiday homes is child’s play with John Bray Cornish Holidays, as they handpick properties which offer amenities perfect for a group with children. Seahaven in Port Isaac is a spacious, immaculately presented house that has been carefully styled by an interior designer. Sleeping ten guests and a well-behaved dog, there is room for all in this desirable seaside sanctuary. There are breathtaking ocean views towards Tintagel Head, best experienced from the landscaped gardens and the open-plan living area. Head to the beach for the day, before returning for a social evening cooking on the stone barbecue and relaxing in the stylish outside space.

Owners are as much a priority as guests at John Bray Cornish Holidays and so they believe that there are a number of key features that will make your holiday property stand out to the increasingly discerning customer. First and foremost is its location. Whether the property offers stunning views of the north-Cornwall coastline, or has far-reaching views across open countryside or farmland, one thing is for sure: holiday homes with an outlook sell. They advise that you think of your property as a holiday destination in itself and be sure to make the best of these features.

Nestled in Daymer Bay, just a stone’s throw from the beach, is Greystones. This magnificent property, designed with entertainment and group socialising in mind, makes gathering with friends or perhaps a multi-generational family looking to spend quality time together, effortless. On sunny days, spill out onto the garden where you can play a game of table tennis on the outdoor table, or lounge around the firepit. In the evenings, why not head inside to watch a film in Greystones’ very own cinema room! With so much space both inside and out, guests are free to join together whilst still having room to enjoy individual pursuits.

There are a number of other locational factors that guests consider important when booking a holiday, with 34% preferring accommodation close to the beach, 33% wanting to be near to shops and 25% choosing to be close to pubs and restaurants. If your property ticks any of

With reference to property features, over the last 12 months owners have found properties with hot tubs can earn 37% more and properties with wi-fi earn 26% more. 32% of people are also looking for good outdoor space or a garden. Lastly, Google searches for holiday cottages with EV chargers have increased by 20% year on year. Investment in any or all of these areas will pay dividends in terms of increased appeal and income, making your self-catering accommodation stand out from the crowd in Cornwall’s increasingly competitive holiday letting landscape.

look like for John Bray Cornish Holidays? Recently, initiatives have included a free cancellation option and a low deposit booking scheme, both of which have made booking holidays more accessible to guests. An eight-figure marketing budget ensures the portfolio is visible across multiple media platforms, including partner sites such as Airbnb and Booking.com. This, coupled with their ability to offer customers flexibility, is key to securing high numbers of year-round bookings for owners. In addition to this marketing exposure, all brands in the Sykes Holiday Cottages family offer dynamic pricing tools, giving owners the ability to maximise their income as well as booking numbers. Prices can be automatically adjusted in line with demand by analysing searches, booking trends and individual property performance. Owners that utilise dynamic pricing tools see, on average, six additional bookings and 24% more revenue. Similarly, those that take advice on where their base price should sit, earn on average 16% more revenue than owners who set their own pricing.

There is no doubt about it, the holiday letting landscape is constantly changing and evolving. Competition in the industry is fierce and with the economic climate as it is, securing a good level of year-round bookings has never been more essential for owners. With this in mind, John Bray Cornish Holidays is proud to deliver a service to their owners that is second-to-none, both in terms of consistent bookings and excellent property management.

It’s this level of detail, both in terms of guests and owners, that has always been at the heart of John Bray Cornish Holidays, making them an outstanding holiday letting option for owners with properties across north Cornwall.

In light of the ever-evolving needs and requirements of customers, understanding the importance of industry-leading marketing, including offering flexible booking options is key. So, what does this

Its rich past echoes around the hotel today in the form of its sophisticated yet welcoming rooms. Whether you are seeking a solo excursion, a romantic escape to a suite, or a family stay in superior surroundings, there is a beautifully furnished room for every guest to relax in. Each bedroom was designed with specific inspiration in mind and the opulent Regency period of the once Georgian manor house is what infuses its captivating feature rooms. Think crisp white linen, soft cloud-like pillows and a hand-carved four-poster bed, discovered and renovated from an old manor house in south Devon that had fallen into disrepair. Single rooms are perfect for a short stopover in a slice of splendour while classic doubles captivate the essence of art and travel. Designed by Dynargh Design and styled with Osborne & Little Hardwick fabric, they

ituated on the outskirts of Redruth, this luxurious Georgian mansion was originally designed and constructed by John Penberthy-Magor in the early 19th century and has been a portal to the past ever since. Dripping in glamour, the interior offers relics of a glitzy time gone by, blending sophistication with originality. What began as Penventon House, otherwise known as Parkanhal, used to be a hub of social activity with its large grounds playing host to wealthy and titled families who, many years ago, would come to the sophisticated and regal private home to indulge in music, marquee events and tea treats. While the property has had several owners since its construction in 1796, it wasn’t until 1969 that it fell into the hands of the Pascoe family, the current owners who created the Penventon Park Hotel as we now know it.

Spend the day exploring the wonders of Cornwall from the Penventon’s central location while your four-legged friend enjoys the scents and sights of luscious gardens, vibrant forests and picturesque beaches. Filled with a variety of walking trails and wildlife, Tehidy Woods is only a 15-minute drive away, while Portreath beach is popular among locals and dogs too, outside of seasonal restrictions.

Upgrade to the superior double or twin for an extra taste of luxury, inspired by the great gardens of Cornwall. Superior family rooms sleep up to four guests, offering those travelling together a botanical haven, paired with exquisite Noble Isle bath and body products, fluffy towels and highly praised Cosmopolitan mattresses. While each room in the hotel is thoughtfully decorated, the Penventon Suite offers another level of extravagance, perfect for those celebrating, wanting a well-deserved break, or simply looking to treat themselves for the sake of it. Unwind your senses by sinking into a deep sharing bath of bubbles surrounded by luxurious mood lighting before retiring to your king-sized turnpost bed, complete with a headboard upholstered in GP&J Baker fabrics and accompanying chaise lounge. in the Duchy, the food and drink alone are worth a visit to the Penventon. While fresh seafood is available in abundance in many hotels, the Penventon not only offers local Cornish cuisine but takes inspiration from its rich history to create culinary delights. Savour iconic dishes around the world from this cosy corner of Cornwall; explore flavours from Andalusia with aromatic pil pil prawns, journey to the streets of Venice with a 60-year-old secret Italian recipe, or take a trip to the coast with the morningcatch seafood linguine.

To elevate your culinary experience, the Penventon has undergone meticulous wine tastings to create a wine list perfectly paired with its dishes. Featuring gems like a Villa Blanche Chardonnay to complement the 12-hour braised pork porchetta, a Beaujolais Villages to enhance the lemon and thyme whole roasted poussin and a crisp Champagne to accentuate the fish and chips, the team’s passion for both food and wine is at the fore. This is also evident in its continually expanding wine list, which currently hosts 130 exquisite wines. The Copper Bar also caters to rum drinkers, cocktail lovers, whiskey connoisseurs and ale enthusiasts alike. With over 140 gins to choose from, this makes it the biggest gin bar in Cornwall. If there’s one guest review that summarises the Penventon, it has to be this: “I feel as though I have been wrapped in cashmere and spoon-fed brandy.” The hospitality and service on offer mean nothing is too much trouble for the hotel that guarantees an escape from the ordinary.

Speaking to Jess Pascoe, family member and Marketing Executive, she reveals a few personal favourites: “I’m actually a vegetarian and my favourite dish on the menu is the oven-baked provençal pancake rolls, which are also vegan friendly. The sauce has this gorgeous buttery feel, loaded in flavour that cuts through the richness of the tomatoey provençal vegetables. I also like it as it’s not a dish I have seen on any other menu. I love Mrs P’s tiramisu, which is an authentic 60-year-old secret recipe. Paola Pascoe (lovingly known as Mrs P) is one of the founders of the Penventon and brought that recipe straight from Venice with her, where she was born and raised.” If you fancy something a little lighter, then an indulgent afternoon tea might hit the spot. villa ambiance and are ideal for groups or families, offering a blend of bedroom privacy and communal spaces. The accommodation doesn’t stop there, such is the hotel’s versatility; coastal villas, eight recently added garden apartments and an off-site house complete the picture. The St Moritz holds families close to its heart and offers a family-friendly, home-away-from-home stay that can be enjoyed by everyone, no matter their age. In summer, the biomass-heated outdoor pool, which is surrounded by beautifully manicured gardens, is the perfect place in which to lie back on a lounger or hammock with a good book while the children enjoy the water fun. For the more energetic, there’s a tennis court for a game or two and little ones can join Mini Moritz. This welcoming children’s club offers daily activities, many of which take advantage of nature’s playground when the weather’s fine; scavenger hunts, rock pooling and football on the lawn help to work up healthy appetites. In the winter months, arts, crafts and cupcake decorating keep hands and minds busy while movie nights make for a fun end to the day.

St Moritz has always put wellbeing high on its agenda, and the pinnacle of relaxation here is the Cowshed Spa. It is the only Cowshed you’ll find outside of the Soho House properties which can be found in luxury locations across the UK, Europe and the States. Adopting the original Cowshed philosophy developed at Babington House in Somerset, which was “to inject a little country calm into people’s busy lives,” treatment-led natural therapies are based on English country garden botanicals to nourish body and soul. In fact, such is the draw of St Moritz that Sara Last, who worked alongside the hotel’s founder Hugh Ridgway on the pre-opening of the Cowshed Spa, has returned as the hotel’s director of operations after starting her career at the property when she was 21. Sara brings a wealth of high-end experience in the luxury spa and leisure industry and will be heading up the build of the hotel’s new wellness area: “St Moritz Hotel and Cowshed Spa are ingrained in my DNA; it feels like home. With beautiful properties in every corner of Cornwall, this family-run agency is the gateway to your dream Cornish retreat.

Comprising a close-knit team of six individuals, all native to Cornwall and proud residents of the county, this independent and family-run business stands out against larger corporate entities, national agencies and regional firms. The hard-working team takes pride in their knowledge of Cornwall and naturally the properties that call it home; loving every inch of the land that surrounds them they are true experts on the area, meaning they can hand pick the perfect property for you. With over 50 years of experience, the agency has fine-tuned everything they do with exacting standards for both the quality of properties it markets and the service it provides. Because of its

stablished in 1964, Cornish Traditional Cottages remains the oldest holiday lettings agency in the county, and with the best interests of the Duchy in mind it’s no wonder the company has stood the test of time. It was over a decade ago that the original owners, Michael and Dawn, bought a derelict, old cottage in Padstow for family use, the first of many they would reclaim over the next ten years. Very soon, friends, and friends of friends, began asking the couple if they could market their holiday homes too; before long they were managing a whole portfolio of properties, and Cornish Traditional Cottages was born.

fantastic customer experience, Cornish Traditional Cottages is a Platinum Trusted Feefo member so you know you can book with confidence every time. The team’s stability, with members remaining unchanged for over six years, fosters strong working partnerships which allows business to flourish. Often selected for its personal touch, the consistency of Cornish Traditional Cottages means homeowners are greeted by familiar faces in its office and individuals who are well-acquainted with them, their holiday homes and their needs.

The variety of properties, both in terms of location and character, is important in helping visitors make the most of Cornwall’s diverse landscape, which provides a tapestry of natural wonders. Inviting exploration and adventure, it is these homes that are the gateway to making every inch of the Duchy accessible. From rugged cliffs and golden beaches along the dramatic coastline to the rolling hills of the countryside, Cornwall offers a multifaceted playground. Hike the South West Coast Path for breathtaking sea views or delve into the idyllic countryside, discovering hidden valleys and quaint villages. The inland moors beckon with their wild beauty and historic sites while Cornwall’s varying terrain creates a canvas for a range of activities. From cycling and horse riding to hot air ballooning, an immersive experience in the heart of nature is never too far away. If you prefer to spend time in the water, embrace the countless opportunities for surfing and kayaking in the tranquil River Fal or spend time relaxing by the water’s edge as waves lap against the golden shores. Whether you seek serenity in the countryside or the thrill of coastal adventures, Cornwall’s diverse landscape ensures there’s something for

These homes range from a selection of more than 170, situated throughout Cornwall, encompassing inland, coastal, village, moor and town locations. In the beginning, as the name suggests, Michael and Dawn focussed on traditional Cornish cottages but, as time went on, this evolved into a portfolio of cosy fishermen’s cottages, contemporary apartments and stylish, spacious homes. From family and dog-friendly properties complete with swimming pools to cosy coastal breaks for two, the agency promises a variety of unique and equally as beautiful retreats. While Cornish Traditional Cottages ensures something for everyone, it also has a commitment to diversity. Rather than narrowing its focus to a specific area, it consistently offers a broad assortment of holiday homes across the entire county,

every explorer, which is exactly why Cornish Traditional Cottages don’t play favourites. With a love for the county that runs as deep as theirs, the team knows there’s something special here for everyone to enjoy. Take your pick from 170 holiday cottages throughout Cornwall; choose a sea-salty surf holiday in Newquay, Perranporth or Polzeath, book a romantic getaway in the ancient fishing villages of Port Isaac and Mousehole, or explore the picturesque sights of St Ives.

I think when trying to capture the essence of Cornish Traditional Cottages, Managing Director George Edward-Collins says it best: “Cornish Traditional Cottages is more than a mere booking agency; we are a cherished, independent, family-run business, proudly holding the title of the oldest in the county. Our dedication extends far beyond conventional services, crafting a truly personal and bespoke partnership that embodies the core of our family values.”

This love of its homeland is perhaps why the agency has stood the test of time. Staying true to its values and principles means its status as a family-run business hasn’t once faltered during its existence. In a market often driven by rapid wins, deceptive marketing promises and high staff turnovers, Cornish Traditional Cottages takes pride in maintaining its authenticity. This sometimes means standing firm in providing genuine advice, even if it doesn’t always align with the preferences of owners or guests. Despite this, retaining the reliable family values that have ensured the agency’s success is of utmost importance to the team. The autonomy of team members enables them to make decisions that ultimately prioritise the customer’s best interest over the immediate financial gains of the

From the initial interaction with owners extending throughout its partnership, the genuine family ethos of the agency is what lies at the heart of its longevity and sets it apart from others offering a more corporate approach. As a result of these carefully nurtured relationships, the best and most varied of Cornwall’s properties wait to welcome you with open arms to immerse yourself in the county’s captivating landscape and coastal climes. corncott.com

the hotel, offering chances to get active and immerse yourself in natural elements, whilst relishing those little moments of luxury and relaxation, ultimately adding up to a dream escape. Originally built in 1904, the hotel has come a long way since then, and has been re-imagined as a blissful beach retreat, blending laid-back living with food culture and an adventurous lifestyle.

hile each of us are unique in how we live our lives and the ways in which we seek happiness, the same goes for what makes up the perfect retreat from which we can escape the stretch of day-to-day life. Where some of us look for quiet exploration or culinary discoveries, others seek wild adventure and ways in which to push the limit, but how often do we come across a place that can accommodate the desires of an entire group, each with a different idea of paradise?

Taking pride in surprising and delighting guests at every opportunity, you could certainly say that things are done a little differently at the Bay. With an aim to create different spaces and places for people from all walks of life, whether that’s couples, young families, those with teenagers and multiple generations, even walkers, solo

Watergate Bay Hotel, tucked into a cove on the very edge of Cornish waters, is certainly one of those places. The team’s vision to help guests find a balance in life flows throughout

surf out’ access, these lofts are the pinnacle of beach-side accommodation, inviting guests to stay nearer to the water than has ever been possible in the Bay. “The beach lofts are our best rooms,” says Founder and Executive Director, Will Ashworth. “They are sized very generously and the interior design represents our new approach to contemporary Cornish beach living. Most importantly though, all the suites have truly epic sea views and couldn’t be closer to the beach. You’ll literally be able to lie in the bath with the windows open, listen to the waves and feel the sun and wind on your face – while still being inside.” Matt Hulme, Director of Dynargh Design, the Cornwall-based company behind the loft’s designs, continues: “From an aesthetic point of view, our approach was: do nothing that distracts from the view. The lofts have some of the most impressive outlooks of any hotel in Cornwall. But the interiors also needed to have enough appeal in the winter, when it’s dark at 5pm, that feels warm, natural and enticing.”

With the beach right on the doorstep, the opportunities are endless all year round; whether flicking through the pages of a favourite book in the summer sunshine on the warm sand sounds like heaven to you, or starting off the day right with a run across the endless stretch of coastline, or even a leisurely walk on an evening before the sun sets. Naturally, surfing is at the top of the list for many visitors to Watergate Bay. Seasoned surf addicts and salt-water beginners alike are catered for with lessons and equipment from the hotel’s partners at Wavehunters, with the convenience of hot showers and changing rooms right on the beach. Where a ski holiday might offer scenes of snowy mountains, here the vista is replaced with jaw-dropping views of the endless ocean stretching out across the horizon, best enjoyed from the hotel’s seven new ocean-view beach lofts. Think wide-angle views of the rolling surf from the covers of your sumptuous bed, freestanding baths with a floor-to-ceiling outlook over the water beside a glowing fire. Featuring hosted hospitality with ‘surf in,

Amongst 80 bedrooms, 22 family suites, four village family apartments and a selection of dog-friendly rooms, the lofts are a sparkling addition to the already impressive range of accommodation to be found at the hotel, with a level of service throughout that can only be described as first class.

what we can achieve in such a special space,” Will shares. “By moving our own restaurant to the Bay’s prime location, we can give every guest an oceanfront dining experience that’s the highlight of their stay. It’s a view all set for memory making and the ideal place to showcase what Cornwall has to offer.”

Another element that draws guests from all around to the hotel’s doors is the tantalising culinary offering, and with no less than three restaurants on site, each guest is simply spoilt for choice. The Living Space infuses a mix of sofas and armchairs with banquet tables and a decked ocean-view terrace. From coffee, cream teas and cocktails to seasonal salads, hearty fillers or dinner for the kids, here you’re invited to find what’s right for you and settle in. At The Beach Hut, you’ll find considered food paired with care-free dining and a warm welcome, with an emphasis on local, seasonal produce and incorporating plant-based dishes for a sustainable take on the post-surf refuel.

Perhaps the best way to make the most of the incredible food at the Bay is to take advantage of the all-too-tempting Taste of the Bay break: in one mid-week break, you can stay for three nights and eat in each of the three restaurants during your stay, simply pick your room and enjoy all that the hotel has to offer, from the food and drinks to the endless activities. Embrace the local surf culture, wake up with a yoga class on the beach, or indulge in a dip in the pool, wave watching from the shelter of warmer water. However you decide to enjoy Watergate Bay Hotel, you can rest assured that the team delight in accommodating everyone, no matter your idea of paradise.

Taking pride of place in its new location on the sea wall, Zacry’s continues to showcase beautiful food that reflects an ethos of elegant simplicity, shaped by provenance, place and perspective. The seasonally shifting three-course menu embraces the energy of the restaurant’s location, with the stories of the farmers and fisherman behind each dish at the fore. “We’re really excited to see

significant impact on the town’s economy. Harbourside restaurants, beach cafés, candy shoppes, Cornish pubs and even boat trip providers are part of the St Ives Gift Card, plus the iconic attraction Tate St Ives, giving visitors a unique taste of St Ives though one gift card. Accommodation providers are getting involved in the action too, not only accepting the card, but also giving the card in place of welcome baskets to guests, providing an easy way to introduce visitors to St Ives, and the means to get out to explore their local area.

ith a handful of accolades including best seaside resort in Britain, best beach in the UK and the happiest place to live, it’s little wonder that St Ives is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the UK. And in 2023, St Ives decided the time was right to showcase its charms by introducing a gift card specifically for the town. Led by St Ives BID, the St Ives Gift Card is available to buy online either as a physical or digital card, and can be spent like a debit card on everything from accommodation and eating out to shopping and leisure activities, making it ideal for UK holidays and locals looking to explore where they live.

From Tate St Ives to our fabulous restaurants, pubs, shops and accommodation, St Ives is already a strong brand. With our own gift card, we’re building on that brand, putting the power of choice in people’s hands and developing our brand for the future.

St Ives has a population of 11,500 and is reliant on tourism. Approximately five million people visit St Ives each year and around 15% of those visit St Ives for the day or overnight. International travel in the south-west region is forecast to grow by 15% by 2027, and by 3.8% each year through to 2025 in Cornwall itself. Encouraging even a small percentage of these tourists to visit St Ives – and explore when they’re there – will have a
