Welcome

From the Editor

to the Bath and Bristol edition of Cornwall Living!

Are you fed up with the angst of waiting for passports to arrive? Do you dread the airport queues and long days of travelling? Then, why not make Cornwall your holiday destination of choice this year? We might be a little bit biased here at Cornwall Living, but we think it is the most wonderful place to stay and explore. We've been busy curating a selection of stays that we think will simply take your breath away. From page 10, choose from a showcase of self-catering apartments, incredible coastal hotels and luxury lodges, all of which are sure to make your holiday here one to remember forever.

Continuing our stay theme this issue (from page 21), we delve deeper into luxury stays around the county. The selection is nothing short of incredible. Whether you are looking for a romantic bolthole for two, a family holiday home that you can call your own, or even a retreat on the magical Isles of Scilly, simply turn the page to be transported to holiday heaven. For those looking for the next-level pampering a hotel stay offers then Karma St. Martins on Scilly (page 28) or the Falmouth Hotel (page 30) offer indulgence in spades, both a stone's throw from the ocean.

If you're a family looking for a little more independence and the flexibility of self catering, then Forever Cornwall (page 26), Cornwall Hideaways (page 33) and Cornish Escapes (page 36) all boast incredible portfolios of holiday properties, each one carefully curated. Or, choose from one of Cornwall's fantastic holiday parks where families can take advantage of the on-site facilities as well as being within easy access of Cornwall's coastal playground. Take Atlantic Coast Holiday Park (page 38) for example. This sensational park not only offers wonderful stays, there is also the opportunity to purchase your own lodge. The only problem you'll have is which one to choose!

The day of your dreams at Enys Gardens

Liquorice the seal pup returns to the wild

Liquorice, a rare grey seal pup rescued from Cornwall’s coastline, has returned to the wild after a successful rehabilitation at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary. Completely black from head to toe, Liquorice is ‘melanistic’. The condition happens when too much melanin is produced in the skin – something seen in just one in 400 grey seals.

She first came to the Sanctuary back in January, underweight and with breathing difficulties, after being spotted by local walkers who called the Cornish Seal Sanctuary for help. Now, however, she has made a successful return to the sea after receiving expert care from the Sanctuary’s animal care team.

Tamara Cooper, the Sanctuary’s curator, says: “While it’s sad to see Liquorice go, we know the wild is the best place for her and we’re sure she will now thrive in the place where she is supposed to be.”

Stays of S SPLENDOUR

Taking luxury retreats to new heights, we discover some of Cornwall’s finest havens that deliver indulgence on every level.

COVER FEATURE 10 | CORNWALL
LIVING

Did you know that you don’t have to spend the time and money to travel to far-flung retreats in order to experience holiday splendour?

Here in Cornwall, there’s a wide selection of luxury stays, all with the incredible backdrop of the Duchy’s beautiful landscape. If you’re travelling from out of county, then Cornwall is a little over five hours from London by car. With the last remaining section of single carriageway on the A30 due to be upgraded later this year, driving to your holiday home is a great way to travel. If you prefer to fly, then there are regular domestic flights from the ideally situated Cornwall Airport Newquay, or choose from the regular train services from across the UK.

With travel sorted, where should you choose to rest your head? Whether it be for a much-needed weekend escape or a longer stay, Cornwall’s luxury hotels and resorts offer the warmest of welcomes and an opportunity to relax in tranquil surroundings. From coastal comfort to city chic, we have selected just a few of our favourites to tempt you.

If you are looking for a coastal-chic base then the Padstow Harbour Hotel will fit the bill. This gem of a hotel has the most incredible views over the Camel Estuary, super-comfy beds, friendly service and serves delicious Cornish food. The hotel is perched in an elevated position above the town, providing a unique wraparound outlook over the harbour.

The lavender-fringed lawn is a truly blissful spot to enjoy a cream tea or local ale while watching the fishing trawlers return from their daily boat trips.

or local ale while watching with its gigantic

The décor is nothing short of impressive; from the entrance with its gigantic neon 'What Shall We Do With a Drunken Sailor' sign, to the inverted skiff moored to the ceiling in the lounge.

And what to do while you’re there? Well, no visit to Padstow would be complete without a walk or cycle on the famous Camel Trail. Padstow Harbour Hotel likes to make things easy for their guests, so it's no surprise that the trail starts a few minutes’ walk away, nor that the hotel will lend you bikes, maps and even pack you a luxury picnic in a backpack to eat en-route. Many guests opt to hike the rugged clifftop paths of the nearby South West Coast Path, or join a sea safari with Padstow Sealife Safaris, to glimpse nesting puffins, seals, dolphins, and even basking sharks. Also, don’t miss the National Lobster Hatchery, which provides visitors a fascinating insight into the hard work required to keep up a sustainable lobster population in Cornwall. Moving from the north to south coast, you’ll discover the Talland Bay Hotel. Set in the most peaceful pocket of Cornwall, it’s reached via winding country lanes and reveals the most spectacular views. This is a hotel that feels like a home-fromhome, with friendly and welcoming staff. Walking into Talland Bay Hotel is like stepping into Alice in Wonderland. The design and décor throughout the hotel is striking. Each room is individually designed and all offer a calming retreat after a day’s exploration. We recommend a stroll down the lane to Talland Bay beach where you can while away many a happy hour soaking up the sun or watching the waves lap the shore.

Or, walk the South West Coast Path to Polperro, where you can meander through the streets of the traditional Cornish fishing port. Returning to the hotel, pre-dinner drinks on the terrace or lush green lawns is such a special experience as you soak up the uninterrupted view out across the sea. The food is exceptional here. Each dish is carefully considered and has a little extra flavour kick, whether that’s curry oil with the fish or a crunchy quinoa and sesame cracker with the salad. The hotel has recently launched a nine-course dining experience, too, taking you on a culinary journey through the best local seasonal produce.

Further south, St Michaels Resort is unique in that it offers both luxury hotel and self-catering accommodation. Choose from one of the delightful rooms or suites and you’ll experience a hotel stay that you’ll want to repeat year after year. The hotel is home to the largest hydrotherapy pool in Cornwall and new for 2023 are four Spa Garden Lodges. With private terraces, outdoor bath tubs and packages with unlimited Hydrothermal Experience access, this is the ultimate way to relax and unwind in coastal surroundings.

For the ultimate in versatility, the hotel’s Beach Residences offer the best of both worlds. With elegant coastal styling these are perfect for families or group stays providing deluxe spaces in which to enjoy the ultimate in beachside relaxation. While each has a well-appointed open kitchen, there is always the opportunity to stroll across the hotel’s garden and experience either the Brasserie on the Bay or the more informal Garden Kitchen. Whichever dining experience you choose, both menus offer fresh, seasonal dishes made with ingredients chosen from Cornwall’s abundant local larder.

A stay here is one of south coast elegance with an ocean backdrop. For exploration, Gyllyngvase beach is just a stone’s throw away while the South West Coast Path extends in both directions just a few steps from the bottom of the hotel’s garden. The maritime town of Falmouth makes for a wonderful way to while away a day or for seafarers; its worldclass sailing waters await.

For an elegant coastal stay with a difference, the Park Mawgan Porth’s stunning yurt village takes five-star glamping to the next level. Nestled in a secret valley in 27 acres of tranquil gardens, where luxury lodges, cosy cottages and cabins are also available, the yurts make for an under-canvas retreat where you can connect with nature without

having to sacrifice quality and comfort. Each yurt has underfloor heating, and vast sink-into beds draped with luxury linens invite deep slumber.

The village itself is magical; birdsong greets early morning risers in utterly peaceful surroundings. The addition of an outdoor hot tub means guests can experience gentle restorative warmth while breathing deeply of fresh, coastal air.

The coast is but a few minutes’ walk away and with a location between Newquay and Padstow, The Park Cornwall has endless opportunities for adventure; whether that be al fresco, ocean or culinary.

From the ultimate in coastal comfort we move to an uber-cool, urban bolthole. The Penventon Park Hotel is a place where guests can expect to escape the ordinary. This hotel, which can be found in Redruth at the heart of one of Cornwall’s historic mining towns, affords splendid Georgian architecture and glittering interiors. Lavish chandeliers hang from high atrium ceilings; gilded paintings, plush velvets, silks and satins invoke Italian grandeur.

Sophistication can be found at every turn. The dining experience is nothing short of theatrical while the Copper Bar offers an elegant start or end to the evening. The bedrooms, as one would expect in a Georgian mansion, are fit for lords and ladies. Each room is a luxury escape in itself – think opulent antique furniture, fourposter beds and luxurious touches at every turn. This is the ideal base for exploring Cornwall’s industrial heritage, discovering ancient engine houses and mineral tramways that wind through countryside decorated with granite outcrops and swathes of gorse and heather.

Whichever luxury stay you choose, these inspiring boltholes are waiting to offer you a welcome like no other. Book your next escape to Cornwall and discover retreats that you will want to return to again and again.

A major feature of the property is the impressive main living room with an exceptionally high and beautifully decorated

HIGHER LODGE

A four-bedroom home in a private setting, with a two-bedroom bungalow, tennis court and numerous garages and outbuildings.

With only open countryside and woodland owned by the Forestry Commission for neighbours, the property is completely hidden from sight behind an attractive high-walled boundary, with impressive wrought iron entrance gates providing access. It therefore benefits from considerable privacy. A sweeping driveway meanders its way through the 2.4 acres of picturesque grounds. The house itself was originally built as a gatehouse to the adjoining Colquite Estate and now provides a very spacious four-bedroomed accommodation with three of the bedrooms being en suite, three delightful reception rooms, an open-plan kitchen and breakfast room, not to mention the two conservatories, all with stunning views of the grounds. On the opposite side of the courtyard is a triple garage and attached to this is a spacious, detached two-bedroomed bungalow, ideal for a two-generation family or added income as a lucrative holiday let. Within the grounds is a tennis court, plenty of parking, additional garages and outbuildings.

Higher Lodge is positioned near to the sought-after north Cornwall villages of St Mabyn and St Tudy that both provide excellent facilities such as shops, pubs, schools, cafés, churches and post offices. The nearby town of Wadebridge provides numerous excellent facilities that include boutique shops, some excellent restaurants, secondary schooling and numerous leisure facilities. There are also many beaches on the nearby north coast, providing excellent surfing opportunities or family days out, whereas the south coast offers world-class sailing adventures at both Fowey and Falmouth, as well as many beautiful National Trust owned gardens.

THE TOWANS

An exciting one-off opportunity to purchase an excellent lifestyle property, with established income and further development potential.

Complete with no fewer than four two-bed holiday lodges, a three-bedroom detached holiday house and another single-bed holiday lodge, as well as the owners' main four-bedroom residence (aptly named Maine House), The Towans represents an exceptional opportunity for a home with income for a family wanting to go ‘all in’ on a new lifestyle by the Cornish coast. Perhaps most exciting though, are the consented planning permissions. The most recent is outline permission for the creation of a sizeable detached house. The second provides the alternative option of two more three-bed detached holiday houses. The third is for two further holiday lodges!

Maine House is an excellent, L-shaped two-storey modern home that provides around 1,750 square feet of attractive accommodation, with a total of four bedrooms. These include a master suite, while the rest are served by a gorgeous family bathroom. On the ground floor, a large lounge invites you to put up your weary feet and relax by the log burner. Meanwhile, in the L-shaped kitchen/diner, you’ll have all the space you’ll need to whip up a culinary storm, including an island in the centre. This, with its in-built, 18-slot wine rack, makes cooking and entertaining a seamless and sociable affair.

Located in the Seven Bays area near Padstow, The Towans lies in prime position for those wanting to enjoy the best of Cornwall’s coastal lifestyle. With beautiful sandy beaches, excellent surfing and sailing opportunities, and some of the country’s finest food, all lying in wait right on the doorstep, this exceptional property investment seeks to provide both the location, and the means, for the ultimate lifestyle transformation.

SANCTUARY A zero-carbon

Did you know that almost a quarter of CO2 created by us comes from buildings and the homes we live in? A statistic that may be difficult to swallow, but there is a way forward to the future we all want. Verto has spent over ten years fighting for zero on the home front, and as the team like to say, zero carbon means zero limits.

Founded in 2010 by Tom Carr and Richard Pearce, multi-award-winning Verto stands tall as the UK’s leading sustainable housebuilder, with great design, technology, wellbeing and sustainability at the heart of everything they do. This passion for forward-thinking innovation is certainly reflected in one of their latest developments, Tessello Rise.

Tucked away in a peaceful residential corner of Carbis Bay, lies a collection of 17 beautifully designed, Zero Carbon Smart Homes™, within easy reach of the beach and everything that the surrounding area has to offer. Picture waking up every morning in a home that works in complete harmony with its surroundings. From air-sourced heating and integrated rooftop solar panels, to larch and slate cladding, these carefully designed homes define the highest efficiency and sustainability standards.

As you enter your coastal home, the large hallway leads you to an open-plan custom kitchen and dining area – perfect for hosting a dinner party with friends, or enjoying a family breakfast before a day at the beach.

LIFESTYLE 18 | CORNWALL LIVING An
art lover’s dream, a surfer’s paradise, a family’s haven – a home at Tessello Rise is anything but ordinary.

A handy utility room sits off to the side. The spacious living room, just along the hall, has double doors that lead to your private garden. This home truly brings the outside in to create a zero-carbon sanctuary.

Head upstairs to the first floor to discover four excellent-sized bedrooms, all with Juliet balconies, and a spacious family bathroom. The master bedroom boasts a sumptuous en suite with large, walk in rainhead shower. The contemporary exterior is striking, yet sits harmoniously within its environment. Private gardens are to the rear of all the properties, and with driveway parking and a well-proportioned garage at the side, there’s always a space for you and your lifestyle.

There is no detail that has not been attended to in the design of these astonishing properties. The four-bedroom Heron embodies modern family living, with plenty of room for everyone and everything in the light-filled, open-plan living space. Coming in three beautifully different external elevations, the homes are designed to maximise solar gain for the PV panels on the roof, and the four spacious double bedrooms are designed perfectly for recharging for the next adventure.

On top of the solar panels, an Air Source Heat Pump, triple glazed windows and super insulation, each home has a myriad of sensors in each room all connected to a smart home system which means the home can ‘learn’ how you live, ensuring you are only heating rooms when you need them to be warm. With automatic lighting and Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery incorporated aswell, these really are as cutting edge as they are sustainable. All of this is controlled via a handy app on your phone, meaning you can keep an eye on things from anywhere in the world.

“We’re immensely proud to be from the south west,” Tom reflects, “because it means we’re fortunate enough to build award-winning sustainable homes surrounded by some of the country’s most spectacular landscapes, beaches, towns and villages. As locals ourselves, we care deeply about building architecturally stunning homes that sit harmoniously within these beautiful surroundings.”

If you’re moving from a traditional house where each hot shower, warm radiator and brightly lit room comes at a cost to the planet, the difference is nothing short of life changing. Verto is changing the way we live, by changing the homes we live in, for a lighter, more joyful and sustainable lifestyle. With only a few homes remaining at Tessello Rise, why not reach out to Verto now, and start your journey to Living Zero today.

Located in the rugged north Devon countryside, just 13 miles from the coastline of Bude, Maggie’s Place was bought in January of 2023 as a newly converted one-bedroom barn conversion, just 10 minutes away from the Conwall border.

Named after the owners’ beloved dog Maggie, the property is naturally dog friendly, with an animal theme throughout. A love for animals, nature and wildlife is reflected throughout the property, inside and out.

Beach Pads, Lelant

Occupying a spectacular beach position overlooking St Ives Bay, these three seaside houses are a sensory paradise. Fantastic facilities include an indoor heated swimming pool, two private hot tubs and an entertaining space for the whole group overlooking the ocean inside and outside. Enjoy an evening sitting around a stone fire pit just above the beach. If you prefer there is also space for quiet reflection and privacy away from the crowds. Ferry House and Ferryman’s Rest both enjoy conservatories allowing the outside inside, especially on a sunny winter’s day.

Boasting inescapable sea views, all houses are well equipped, offering open plan living spaces, whilst guests frequently comment on feeling both comfortable and cosy. If you could ever tire of the view there are TVs in the living areas and master bedrooms for curling up and watching a film. Alternatively, a moonlit beach stroll is a highly recommended heavenly experience, with only the sound of the waves to disturb you.

There is plenty for everyone to do with a sandy beach on your doorstep and a great links golf course only meters away. Water lovers can enjoy kayaking, kitesurfing, surf and SUP activities. Sea fishing from your doorstep is a popular pastime. The beach outside is dog friendly all year round and so perfect for doggy guests too. WILD WESTCornwall’s

Tracing an arc from St Ives Bay’s beautiful blue shores to the picturesque St Michaels’ Mount in the south, Cornwall’s wild west is a remote, untamed peninsula, where gorsetopped cliffs and tiny fishing villages dot the coast, and ancient stone circles and disused mines pepper the dramatic landscape.

Surrounded on three sides by soaring granite cliffs and the crashing Atlantic, this corner of Cornwall is home to some of the county’s most popular spots, including arty St Ives, iconic Land’s End and St Michael’s Mount, but head off the beaten track and you’ll discover endless opportunities for adventure, culture and nature-based fun – whether you’re an ocean lover, a wildlife spotter, a thrill seeker or a foodie, you’ll be sure to find what you’re looking for in west Cornwall.

From characterful cottages and romantic coastal cabins to stylish beach pads perfect for large groups, each unique property at Forever Cornwall makes an ideal base for exploring this part of the county. They all come with a raft of special features, from hot tubs and wood burners to epic coastal views, so whether you’re looking for a secluded hideaway for two or a sprawling retreat for that family gathering, we’re sure you’ll be able to find the perfect escape for you. What’s more, they’re all in inspiring locations that

Gwithian takes pride of place at one end of three miles of gold sand facing across the bay to St Ives. Low tide reveals intriguing rockpools and caves, whilst the grassy dunes are perfect for sunset barbeques with glorious views across to Godrevy headland and the lighthouse. Making the most of the glorious sea-and-lighthouse views, Forever Cornwall’s Gwithian chalets and beach houses are all within an easy stroll of the beach.

With vaulted ceilings, walls of glass and wraparound gardens and terrace, cedar-clad Dune House and Lodge, which can be rented together to comfortably sleep 12, are probably the most exclusive retreats in the area. If you’ve got four-legged companions in tow, laid-back Luz is a stunning beach house set just above dog-friendly Gwithian beach, with a deck that’s perfect for sunset gazing in summer or storm watching in winter. Stones Reef’s dramatic setting is hard to beat. This contemporary beach chalet has uninterrupted views of Godrevy lighthouse – head out of the garden gate straight

Near lively Hayle, west Cornwall’s paddleboarding, kayaking and kitesurfing capital, Chalet Thiseldo is an architectdesigned bolt hole tucked into the green cliffs with a bird’s-eye view over the Hayle Estuary. With a private clifftop veranda and direct access to the beach below, this chalet is the ultimate coastal cabin. Way down west on Cornwall's south coast, pocketsized Mousehole is a tangle of fishermen’s cottages and cobbled streets. The delights of the village, harbour and beach are less than a minute’s walk from St Clements House, a beautiful Georgian retreat nestled in the village, just seconds from the water’s edge.

Surrounded by a rambling garden with St Michael’s Mount views, Little Acres and The View are both spacious retreats just a ten-minute stroll from the charming little village of Marazion, with its clutch of independent shops and galleries, cafés and pubs. If you’re bringing the brood, The View has bucketloads of space. With cool coastal interiors, these properties are within walking distance of the epic sweeping beach that stretches for two miles all the way to Penzance. With its historic castle setting and exceptional location perched atop the Cornish cliffs, the stately North Wing is a complete one-off, with beautiful, contemporary interiors, sensational Mounts Bay views and a string of hidden coves waiting to be explored from the coastal path, which runs along the bottom of the garden. ARCHIPELAGOEngland’s magical

The most southerly landfall in the UK, the Isles of Scilly lie just off Cornwall’s south-west coast, around 28 miles from Land’s End. And yet, the archipelago of islands, five of which are inhabited, feel like a world apart, with their own unique history, culture and even geography.

Flying into the islands, you could be forgiven for thinking you were somewhere in southern Europe. The islands crouch low and green in the Atlantic, grassy bluffs and brilliant white sand beaches giving onto startling turquoise water. Their southerly location and prevailing ocean currents mean the islands are among the warmest locations in Britain.

There are a host of activities to enjoy, from sailing adventures and snorkelling with seals, to exploring some of the outlying islands on kayaks and glass-bottom boat excursions, as well as wind and kite surfing and paddle boarding. On land, easy strolls are a great way to explore coastal paths, empty stretches of beach and verdant landscapes filled with endemic plant and flower species. Mountain biking and trekking are also great options for getting around, while there are regular boat services to shuttle you between the islands.

Clustered along a stunning stretch of coastline on St Martin’s, the northernmost of the five islands, Karma St. Martin’s luxury boutique resort evokes a classic, English seaside village. The 30-room resort is set right on the edge of Par beach – a stunning stretch

of white sand giving onto pellucid waters that are perfect for a bracing dip.

The resort’s destination restaurant – Sir Cloudesley Shovell (named after a famous 17th century naval commander) – is an acclaimed eatery that has won the AA’s double-Rosette award for the last five years running. Fresh caught seafood and farm-to-table meats and produce are the order of the day, prepared in the modern French style. The restaurant offers ocean views all the way to nearby Tresco and the uninhabited islands that surround it. The excellent cuisine is matched by a well-stocked cellar, including Karma vintages, old and new world wines as well as access to the Enomatic Wine Machine for those interested in sampling.

There’s a pretty garden terrace and a private jetty where the ferry from St Mary’s docks when dropping off or picking up guests. It’s the perfect base from which to explore the magical islands – or simply to settle back and gaze off across the ocean with a glass of wine in hand. What’s more, you can do so with your favourite fourlegged friend in tow – Karma St. Martin’s is a dog-loving resort and your hound will be treated with as much care and attention as you are.

Owned and run by the Colwill family since it was first established in 1975, and farmed by them since 1928, Wooda Farm Holiday Park has traditional family values at its core. This rural escape of woodland, farmyard animals, outdoor experiences, five-star accommodation, tractor rides, freedom and open spaces for children to run free, is a safe haven; a place where cherished memories are made. Charlotte Veale, a member of the latest Colwill generation explains: “We want our guests to share our home, discover for themselves what we love about the site and become part of the Wooda family.”

To help make stays as comfortable and convenient as possible, the site has evolved over the years to now incorporate an on-site bar and restaurant – once the farm’s milking parlour. There is also a coffee lounge and cocktail bar, sports facilities, and even a Wellness Barn. “The views here are incredible, too,” says Charlotte, “and we’re very close to the beaches and seaside. We are a family, and the business is run by us, which is why I believe that Wooda will take a piece of your heart. We have some families who return year on year, and have done so for more than 30 years!”

The site’s latest accommodation offering is a selection of luxury lodges named Gwelva Hills, designed to capitalise on the Wooda Farm

vista, simultaneously incorporating eco-friendly elements. The lodges are aesthetically kind on the landscape, with living roofs and cedar cladding. Each also has an air-source heat pump powered by a ground-mounted solar panel system, as well as a passive heat recovery system. Sustainability aside, the stamp of accommodation at Gwelva Hills is undeniably luxurious. Hartland, Marsland, Northcott and Summerleaze, just four of the lodges that make up the development, boast stylish designs and soft hues, drawing inspiration from the surrounding coastal landscape and creating the perfect space in which to relax and soak up the scenery. With five-star facilities for touring and camping, alongside luxury holiday homes, self-catering cottages and lodges, Wooda’s welcome is driven by a love for the land and a passion for great hospitality that’s been passed down over the course of almost a century.

Set within 150 acres of countryside, incorporating three lakes, this multi-generational, action-packed nature and wellness retreat offers the ultimate enjoyment for young couples, families, or celebratory groups of all shapes and sizes.

It’s a site that more and more prospective holiday home owners are falling in love with, especially those who visit regularly and are seeking something a little more permanent.

Effortlessly stylish and surrounded by countryside, with some perched on the banks of the lakes, each barn provides a space that’s designed for time spent together. Picture living spaces with sink-into sofas, cosy bedrooms for snuggling down in, deckings perfect for gazing up at the starry night sky.

Water sports are on offer all year round with children booked on to the FlowRider or Aqua Park after school, or surfers wanting to practice their skills on the guaranteed wave. Plus, the water sports team is also known for their Flow Shows at peak times, demonstrating their daredevil skills and stunts to spectators who will

kick back with a drink or a meal – it’s great family entertainment. There’s also a beach café down at the lake for those that would rather spectate than get wet, and the indoor pool with sauna and steam room is perfect for those looking for something a little less action packed. For couples and groups of friends looking for relaxation, a trip to the spa for a massage or treatment is just the thing, or maybe mum needs a couple of hours to herself after a busy day.

So, whether it’s taking a dip in a hot tub on the roof top terrace, breakfast on the decking overlooking the countryside or sitting with a book and a cooling drink as you listen to the sounds of the lake, there is a barn for everyone – ranging from two and three-bedroom options, right through to those with four and even six!

When the day’s end finally rolls around, Retallack’s exceptional accommodation provides a welcome and luxurious retreat. And whether you’re choosing to stay there yourself, or to let it out to guests, what we’re sure you’ll find is that a holiday home purchase here is an investment that yields dividends well beyond the monetary.

WAITING Cornwall is

As a nation of staycationers, there is something very special about a UK holiday by the sea and perhaps nowhere more so than on the north Cornish coast. Coastdale Parks is a longestablished family-owned company, and its Cornish location, Atlantic Coast Holiday Park, offers ownership of modern, luxurious yet affordable holiday homes. Boasting a gold David Bellamy Conservation Award and just a few minutes’ walk from the three-mile stretch of golden sand that curves from Godrevy to the Hayle Estuary, owning here provides an opportunity for family holidays that will be remembered forever.

Experts in the field, Coastdale Parks knows only too well that buying a lodge or caravan shouldn’t be a stressful transaction which is

why they have dedicated advisors who will look after you at every stage of the journey to holiday home ownership. The choice of caravans and lodges available at Atlantic Coast Holiday Park is enviable. From brand new, top-of-the-range caravans with double glazing and central heating, to good-quality starter caravans – both new and pre-owned – years of Cornish holidays await no matter your taste or budget.

With immediately available stock published in regular lists, it’s easy to search for your dream holiday or, if there's a specific make or model not on the list, stock can be ordered in specially. You’re invited to experience Atlantic Coast Holiday Park for yourself on a weekend break, the cost of which is offset against any future purchase. However, owning here not

only affords Cornish family holidays for years to come, it can also be a lucrative source of income.

The residential buy-to-let market has experienced a downturn in recent years, largely due to tax implications for landlords as well as a slow-down in the growth of house prices amid the current cost of living crisis, so investors have been prompted to seek alternative options. Holiday home insurance specialists, Schofields reported that: “in peak season, a holiday let can earn you as much in a week as you would in a month from buyto-let, with holiday let landlords earning 30% more yield than their buy-to-let counterparts.” Post-pandemic, Cornwall’s staycation industry is still booming with the UK’s tourism market forecast growth of 87.5% to £257 billion by 2025 (Deloitte ONS).

Renting with Coastdale Parks couldn’t be easier due to the owners’ portal, which is a quick and easy way to manage your account. From the minute a guest books, everything is taken care of; payments are taken as per the booking conditions, followed up if necessary, before relevant pre-arrival information is sent out. On arrival, guests are greeted by the friendly reservation team who will provide them with information on their

accommodation, facilities and a wealth of local information.

Your guests have use of all the park facilities just as you do, and the site’s guest services and maintenance teams are always on-hand should there be any issues, with the housekeeping team carefully preparing your holiday home for its next use after each stay. For owners who opt for the managed subletting scheme, they can also be safe in the knowledge that their holiday home meets all of the industry safety standards so it is able to be let safely.

Prices start from £65,000 and each new caravan or lodge comes with a ten-year structural warranty and up to a 25-year lease. Owners can also choose from fully furnished options which are sold with an inventory pack included. With extensive experience of lodge and caravan sales, Coastdale Parks is able to advise on what makes a desirable property, listing pet-friendly accommodation with a hot tub as the most desirable. As a family friendly park, Atlantic Coast is busiest during school holidays, so agreeing to let during those times will give more earnings.

By choosing to let with Coastdale you will be tapping into 20 years of digital marketing experience. Through digitally led strategic solutions, marketing plans are synchronised with sales processes to drive awareness. These services are led by expert digital consultants and experienced content creators, designers, developers and business advisors who are able to leverage the appropriate digital tools in order to create a demand for your product in the market.

A private sanctuary awaits you and your family for whenever you want to get away, as well as the opportunity for a return on your investment. So, why not share the love, while reaping the benefits?

RISING HIGH

Back in 2014, Tom Hannon realised his dream. Now Chef Patron of The Rising Sun in Truro, Tom, and wife Katie, extend a warm, friendly and genuine welcome (there are no ‘too cool for school’ attitudes here) at this wonderfully unassuming dining destination. They have created a loyal foodie following and industry acclaim based on their ethos of inherent and uncompromising quality and attention to detail.

Having trained alongside Michelin star chefs, Tom’s passion, energy and drive are infectious. His love of classic flavours and precision cooking see him develop menus that guests want to return to again and again.

Katie’s background in art and design has ensured the quirky, intimate spaces in the 18th century building are used to their full potential, adding a contemporary feel to a relaxed and unpretentious environment.

Tom and his kitchen team create a dining experience that is sophisticated, with a fantastic balance of flavours and textures cleverly constructed to elevate and enhance the best seasonal ingredients. Procurement from passionate local suppliers is at the core of the kitchen ethos and shines through on the menu, from rod and line-caught fish (they are licensed to buy direct from fishermen) to vegetables from a justice-oriented,

ecologically supportive and sustainable farm a few miles away.

You could be forgiven for assuming it is all about the food at this little gem of a pub, but with one of the best back bar selections to be found in the county it is most definitely a destination for craft spirits, carefully curated cocktails, unconventional wines and award-winning national and local beers. The same ethos to responsible sourcing and sustainability in the food runs right through the pub, from biodynamic wines (Katie is a trained sommelier and curates the wine list around these values whilst creating a list perfectly in sync with Tom’s indulgent food) to local craft beers and locally grown, seasonal flowers on the tables.

There are big plans afoot at The Rising Sun this summer, with the development of a secret courtyard garden which will play host to a range of intimate events. Themed nights are also on the agenda, celebrating the finest wines, cooking over fire, cocktail takeovers, summer festivals and more!

EXPERIENCEAn island

Spend a day discovering the magical Isles of Scilly and you’ll be left wanting to return again and again.

Just 28 miles off the coast of Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly enjoy a unique climate, both warmed by the Gulf Stream but also battered by the winter gales. Nature flourishes here in many different ways, from the sub-tropical beauty of Tresco’s gardens to the wild and untamed landscapes of Bryher, St Agnes and Gugh. Spending even just one day on the Isles of Scilly is an experience that you will never forget and there are a raft of experiences just waiting for you and your four-legged friends.

It comes as no surprise that boats play an important part of life in the Isles of Scilly. They are the best way to get from one island to another and an excellent way to see seals, seabirds and wildlife. The calm, clear seas around the islands make this the ideal place to practice your watersport skills or to dip a toe in the water for the first time – whether it’s wild swimming, snorkelling, kayaking or paddle boarding. Beachcombing and rockpool safaris are family favourites. From cowrie shells to sea glass, there is always treasure to be found on shore, and at lowtide, rockpools become mini-aquariums – all you need is a bucket and your eyes.

If you fancy a tipple, the islands are home to vineyards and even a gin school. And for foodies, the bounty of the sea is a given, from fish and chips to fresh lobster. We still haven’t mentioned the miles of coastal paths, spectacular beaches, golf, horse riding, cycling… the list goes on. The islands are famously dog-friendly, and your dogs are very welcome on board our flights and ferry.

All these experiences take place in one of the most beautiful and unspoilt parts of the world you will ever see and can be enjoyed in just one day. However, there is so much to see, feel and do on the islands that for a lot of people, one day is simply not enough! However you choose to travel to the islands, by Skybus from Land’s End, Newquay or Exeter, or on Scillonian III from Penzance, the journey will be as memorable as the destination.

SPRING INTO adventure

With 13 acres of sub-tropical gardens in full bloom and new life around every corner, Newquay Zoo promises an amazing trip out for everyone, from the young to the young-at-heart.

Newquay Zoo is home to hundreds of different species, from firm favourites such as penguins, otters and ring-tailed lemurs, to more unusual animals. Head to the Wildlife at Night enclosure to meet fascinating slender lorises, spot the Hoffmann’s sloths hanging out in the Tropical House and explore the Oriental Gardens to find Papuan hornbills, Owston’s civets and more.

Learn more about all of your favourite animals by checking out the range of daily talks and activities that take place around the zoo throughout the day, including meerkat talks and rambles with Newquay’s knowledgeable Rangers.

For a more hands-on experience, visit the Village Farm to pet some familiar faces and give the pygmy goats a scratch. If you want to go really wild, you can even book an animal experience to get up-close and personal with lemurs and tapirs, as well as a special Junior Keeper experience to get a taste of zoo life.

With accessible paths and facilities, as well as multiple outdoor play areas containing

climbing frames, swings and slides, Newquay Zoo is an amazing place for the whole family to make memories.

Plus, there is a range of delicious food and drink available on site to complete your day out. With fresh, ethical and locally sourced options for all diets, visitors can sample everything from pizzas and burgers to salads and mezze boxes at Café Lemur, overlooking the lake. You can also grab pasties and sandwiches at the Lazy Lion Grill, and treat yourself to an ice cream or ice-lolly at Meerkat Munchies. Complete your visit by stopping off at the gift shop and checking out the selection of unique, eco-friendly gifts, toys and souvenirs.

Newquay Zoo is open from 10am every day (except Christmas Day). Closing times and last entry varies throughout the year. For more information, and to save money on tickets by booking online, make sure to head to the website!
