We understand Cornwall’s most exclusive homes better than anyone As we enter spring, the number of properties for sale are at a record low whilst demand from buyers remains at near all time highs. his has to be my favourite time of the year here in the Duchy. When I awoke this morning it was light and the birds were singing. When I leave work tonight it will still be light and there’ll be chance for a walk along the clifftops before supper. Now is the time when we can begin to appreciate Cornwall in all her glory and start reconnecting with the natural world around us, and what better way to do that than spending a night or two staying at one of Cornwall’s amazing camping or glamping sites? Rosie Cattrell has been delving into the history of camping while on the search for the finest wigwam, yurt and cabin stays across the county (from page 23). This is also the time of year when our thoughts turn to sprucing up our own homes. Timely then, that the Cornwall Home and Garden Show, now in its 11th year, will once again be held at the Royal Cornwall Events Centre, Wadebridge, from 30th April to 1st May. With over 120 home and lifestyle companies all under one roof this is your one-stop-shop for interior, garden and architectural inspiration – turn to page 83 for our guide to the show. Elsewhere, this issue of Cornwall Living sees luxury property from page 30, great escapes from page 49, food galore from page 57 and some exciting outdoor adventures from page 64. However you want to discover Cornwall this month, we’ve got you covered!

Time to consider holiday letting?

Fresh exhibitions at the Jackson Foundation

With staycations on the rise, and this trend looking set to continue, Cornwall is at the top of the list for many, prompting local holiday homeowners to find ways to maximise their boo ings. Cornish Horizons, part of the Original Cottages family, is one of Cornwall’s leading holiday cottage agencies. Whether it’s a future investment, a new and exciting renovation project, or a family home full of memories, Cornish Horizons’ local team of dedicated experts are ready to make your holiday home a firm favourite for holidaymakers, year after year. “After three decades in the business, we know what gives properties the extra pulling power,” explains Annabel Leach, Cornish Horizons’ Senior Property Recruiter. “And with our dedicated local property experts, backed by a recognisable national brand, we’re proud to say we can offer you the best of both worlds, from high-impact marketing to local personal service and property maintenance.

solutions.” ornish orizons has four offices throughout Cornwall in Fowey, Looe, St Ives and Porthleven. “This means we’re never far away from your property should you need us,” continues Annabel. “Our local experts know these places like their own back gardens. Because often, that’s what they are. And like with any family, we are here to talk whenever you need us.” With no restrictions on owner weeks, no joining or annual fees, plus competitive commission rates, now’s the perfect time for your property to meet its fullest potential. After a short break, the Jackson Foundation Gallery re-opened its doors on 19th March to three brand-new exhibitions, featuring two Kurt Jackson shows and one by invited artist Sally Baldwin, whose Fragile Earth evokes natural forms such as trees, insects, sea life and water. The materials, which include handmade paper, silk waste and cotton scrim, are ghostly, white and ephemeral, suggesting delicate, fragile, finely balanced and vulnerable landscapes. In association with Surfers Against Sewage, Mermaids’ Tears charts Kurt Jackson’s efforts to address the blight of plastic in the ocean, and draws attention to the resin pellets or nurdles from plastic manufacturing (known as mermaids’ tears) that pollute the environment. Clay Country is a product of Kurt Jackson’s work in situ at the Littlejohns China Clay Works, where dramatic variations in the weather inspired a diverse range of drawings and paintings, incorporating the clay and stone itself in the mix. Struggling with

Celebrating spring at Newquay Orchard

Wi-Fi issues?

Found just a short walk from the beach, Newquay’s not-so-secret garden is flourishing with wildlife, organic produce and cultural events this springtime. Built by the community, for the community, Newquay Orchard has sustainability at its core. Volunteering activities help local people find friends, learn s ills and ta e home vegetables – all whilst helping to improve biodiversity.

Normally Wi-Fi signals can pass through walls relatively easily. However, with walls that are much thicker, for instance, those made of Cornish granite, the signal can wea en significantly, resulting in patchy coverage throughout your home. With the popularity of remote home working, getting a strong and reliable signal to your desk is a must. The best way to do this would be to run a new data wire from the router to the desk or connect an additional Wi-Fi access point nearby. However, this might not always be practical. If so, you’ll have to do it wirelessly with Wi-Fi access points strategically placed to repeat the signal throughout the house, but this can have other challenges. On a recent project, The Electric Playground found itself confronted with a home that was split in two by a three-foot-wide, solidgranite wall! After a survey, the solution was to place two discrete Wi-Fi access points positioned in a straight line, one either side of the only doorway in the wall. The signal was then spread from these two points, much to the satisfaction of the customer! For more information call 0800 878 6168 or visit S www.theelectricplayground.co.uk Ad:Layout 1 28/8/18 14:46

One of the country’s best sportives!

If cycling is your hobby or even your passion, the good news is that one of Britain’s best sportives is hosted right here in Cornwall and open now for entries. The Coast and Clay Sportive is uic ly becoming a firm favourite on the Cornish cycling calendar and the fundraising team at local charity Cornwall Hospice Care is delighted to again be welcoming cyclists to take part on Sunday 17th July. The event has something for all cycling abilities. There’s a 17-mile route called ‘inspire’ for families and new riders, the challenge run that’s 44 miles, the epic 71-mile course and the extreme route that covers 104 miles. Recognised by Cycling Weekly as one of ‘20 of the best British sportives to ride’, depending on the route you choose, you’ll experience the coastline and cliffs of the north coast, the beautiful country lanes of mid Cornwall and the calmer and gentler south coast. Starting at Padstow’s stunning Prideaux Place, the event sees riders winding back through the Cornish

countryside past spectacular views and stunning beaches to a welcome finish and a well-deserved medal. Jane Appleton, the Event Director, says: “Last summer we had a day to remember with spectacular weather and nearly 400 cyclists taking part, it was a great day all round and we raised more than £30,000 to help fund the care we provide. This year we hope to go one step further and welcome 500 participants, so please sign up and join us for a great day of cycling.” The route will be fully signposted with strategically placed marshals, wellstocked feed stations and just a few hills! ll finishers will be awarded a medal worthy of the efforts put in by each and every cyclist who joins in the Coast and Clay Sportive 2022. To sign up, be sure to visit the Cornwall Hospice Care website. For more information call 01726 66868 (option 3) or visit www.cornwallhospicecare.co.uk

Cornish life through the ages The Museum of Cornish Life offers a fascinating insight into Cornwall’s rich heritage. The museum building was originally designed as the town’s market house in 1837. Today, it retains the original sloping floor, which adds to the authenticity of your visit as you journey back in time. In front of the museum is a cannon, salvaged from the wreck of the frigate HMS Anson, which foundered off Loe Bar in 1807. Around 100 sailors’ lives were lost, inspiring Henry Trengrouse to

Three tips for stand-up

An art haven in Wadebridge

paddleboarding safety

The first tip from SUP Standards, is to check what the wind is doing, and not to go out on the water if there’s a bit of a breeze! It’s extremely difficult to paddle against the wind and in doing so, you will get tired. You could even be blown out to sea, or away from your entry point. The second is to use a leash as, without one, you could be left swimming back to shore should you fall off and have your board carried away. Finally, it’s worth learning to fall off correctly – by falling flat, you can avoid doing yourself an injury! For further tips, and to be in with the chance of winning a ‘Learn to SUP’ online course, be sure to visit the SUP Standards website. For more information visit www.supstandards.com

Run by Victoria Mead, a practising artist and sculptor, Wave 7 Gallery is a longestablished art centre in the heart of Wadebridge. Tucked away on Polmorla Walk, the gallery has been exhibiting beautiful art for more than 17 years, and has since uprooted from its previous base in a converted barn near Trelights. Affording a much larger space in which to exhibit the work of a range of talented artists, the move to Polmorla Walk has been a wonderful success. In fact, the gallery now takes pride in showcasing not only Cornish artists, but also those from further afield. This includes top artists in their area as well as up-and-coming talent. With fresh new work coming into the gallery regularly, there’s always something new to see in one of the ever-changing exhibitions you can expect to come across throughout the year. Showcasing all sorts of styles and sizes in painting and 3D work, with a price to match all budgets for those looking to buy.

From stunning landscapes (like Alan Stratford’s ‘Land of Riches’, and Lucy Davies’ ‘Sunset at Treyarnon’, both pictured), to abstract sculptures and functional ceramics, you’re sure to find something that’ll steal your heart. Right in the heart of the bustling town of Wadebridge, Wave 7 Gallery makes for a wonderful stop during your day. If you can’t make it in person, their virtual 3D tour might be just the thing! If you find yourself in Wadebridge, make sure to pay a visit to the gallery between 10am and 5pm from Monday to Saturday. For more information call 01208 880605 or visit www.wave7gallery.com

Dreaming of Tremaine Hoteliers and entrepreneurs Lana and Peter de Savary have struck gold again with their latest project: Tremaine Manor. Set amidst the unspoilt beauty of the Cornish countryside in a private world all its own, Tremaine has undergone a full refurbishment and we can’t wait for the opening in Easter 2022. Peter de Savary, legendary in the hospitality industry over the last 40 years, came upon Tremaine in 2021 and was instantly drawn to its magical qualities, on which he ponders: “Tremaine exudes history,

tranquillity and an abundance of charm. In my quieter moments, I dream of Tremaine.” Having just completed a programme of upgrade and refurbishment to provide delightful, comprehensive and characterful accommodations in the substantial Manor itself, the 12 Traditional Cottages, the Shepherds Hut, and the gardens and grounds, guests are sure to be astonished during their first stay come Easter. PREVIOUS Boho Belle in the spring sunshine

here’s something about stepping away from the sturdy arches of our homesteads and venturing forth to lay our heads down under the stars that brings with it a wonderful sense of adventurous nostalgia. As the chill of winter evenings starts to give way to the everincreasing stretches of spring sunshine, we begin to remember the pastimes that brought us so much joy in warmer days. While there are those who still hold true to the traditional boy scout practice of canvas tents and roll-up sleeping bags hoisted onto their bac s to find a place in the wild to set a triangular silhouette against the warm glow of a campfire, we’ve come a long way since those early, intrepid days. Today, more people than ever are able to enjoy the benefits of the camping world, with a multitude of options to suit anyone looking for a taste of adventure. But how did this popular pastime first ta e root During the 1800s, a craze for ‘pleasure boating’ had developed in Victorian London, whereby groups of people would row on boats along the iver Thames during fine weather. When the evenings drew in, they took to mooring their boats to set up canvas

tents along the banks of the river so that they could camp nearby and be ready to get back onto the river in the morning. Whilst the people of London camped on the river bank, a travelling tailor named Thomas Hiram Holding was taking camping to the next level. Having travelled across America with his parents during his youth, he’d developed a great love for the outdoors, and as a result took a cycling and camping tour across Ireland in the early 20th century. After documenting his experiences in his book Cycle and Camp in Connemara, and founding the first official camping club, ‘The Association of Cycle Campers’, camping had become a way to escape into the wilds of nature. After the First World War ended, the National Camping Club was formed by Sir Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the Scouts. rom this point camping flourished and turned into the leisurely family activity that we are familiar with today, remaining a popular British practice ever since. Cornwall, with its ruggedly wild landscape and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, has made for an idyllic camping destination for many since the beginning, and whether you’re looking to immerse yourself into nature with a bit of ‘wild camping’, find a family friendly spot for some treasured quality time together, or you prefer the comforts of a romantic luxury glamping retreat, there’s an abundance of choice throughout the Duchy.

Henry's Campsite

With the South West Coast Path marking the limits of the land around the county, visitors from all over find themselves drawn to hike the trail with a permanent view, and campsites dotted along the way make for the ultimate places to rest your weary feet before packing up and carrying on the very next day. With an understanding of the archaic need to reconnect with nature that many of us feel, there are a number of campsites spread along our Cornish coastline, ready and waiting to welcome hardy travellers to pitch up in a secure spot and lay their heads for the night. One such sanctuary is Henry’s Campsite (henryscampsite.co.uk), renowned for the spectacular sunsets, breathtaking sea view and its isolated location away from busy roads. The most southerly campsite in Britain, and just a ten-minute walk to the coast path, this small, family run campsite is situated at the top of Caerthillian Valley, and has easy access to some of the most mesmerising beaches in the area: Pentreath, Polpeor, Housel Bay, and even the enchanting Kynance Cove. If you’re one for wild exploration on the very edge of Cornwall, you may find yourself perched around the communal fire pit, sharing your day’s adventures with fellow explorers. Camping is no longer the sole territory of the adventurous wanderer, and provides an endless number of families with a funfilled, cost effective escape from day to day-life. From stretches of turf that fade

into a sandy beach, to bustling pitches with access to electricity and children’s play areas, Cornwall is brimming with family friendly campsites, ready made for lasting memories. For instance, the National Trust’s Teneriffe Campsite draws families from all over during the warmer months to its site on the dramatic Lizard peninsula, pulling in with cars loaded and kids in the back, ready to jump out and pitch the tent together before exploring the site and planning a fun filled day ahead. The toilets, showers, baby changing area and washing up point make for an extra comfort and convenience, meaning family life can continue while you have a shared adventure! Glamping, a slightly more recent phenomenon, suits those of us who are seeking a wild experience with a touch of luxury. This usually involves a sturdier structure than the light-weight tents we have become accustomed to today, and is often attached to a feeling of romance and freedom, making for an enchanting escape for couples looking to get away from it all and retreat into the heart of ornwall while benefitting from touches of warm luxury. Laced with a charming sense of wild tranquillity, Trenoon Meadow Glamping seems a world all its own, carved amongst the floaty meadow grasses and flourishing habitat of the surrounding wildlife. With four bell tents and two ‘pods’, each carefully arranged with inviting beds and cosy amenities, this is certainly a couple's retreat for those in search of a private escape complete with starry nights and sunset skies.

Bordering between the worlds of camping and cosy cottages is the enchanting conception of the shepherd’s hut, a beautiful structure that makes for a comfortable home from home and can be found throughout Cornwall as a popular retreat from the outside world. Famed for his love of the county, Rick Stein’s recent addition to The Cornish Arms in harlestown, Padstow, are five stunning shepherd’s huts. Nestled by the sheltered woodlands on the grassy grounds of the pub, the wooden huts offer a peaceful countryside calm within reach of Cornwall’s burgeoning food scene, beaches and coastal walks, and make for an idyllic weekend getaway for those of us who may not have the stamina for sleeping night after night on Cornish soil. From intrepid explorations with our shelters on our backs to the most relaxed of moments in a peaceful structure that still allows for a gentle immersion into the wilds of Cornwall, our treasured county holds the key for campers and glampers of every sort. With a world of natural beauty all around, there is adventure ahead no matter the shelter over our heads while the stars are shining.

RIVERBANK splendour

An imaginatively designed, new-build home realised dreams of Cornish creekside living.

T

here are times when there are not enough superlatives in the dictionary to put into words how breathtaking a property is, and Creek View, Devoran, which was recently sold by Shore Partnership at a guide price of £1,300,000, is a case in point. The village of Devoran is a hugely desirable location, having an enviable position on the banks of the Restronguet Creek, being only a six-mile drive to Cornwall’s cathedral city of Truro and within easy access of both the north and south Cornish coasts. Completed in 2021, this grand design took its inspiration from the iconic boat houses of old combined with modern finishes and contemporary styling. Its toes-in-the-water position is maximised with garden terraces giving direct water access, perfect for paddle boards and kayak adventures. A sunken hot tub in the upper deck and external hot water shower are evidence that this property was designed with outdoor living in mind as much as indoor – and who wouldn’t with such an idyllic location? In fact, the outdoors are also embraced by the interior design with a wall of impressive floor to ceiling windows on both the ground and second floors, offering panoramic, picture-postcard views of the river and the lush green countryside beyond. The

open-plan living area, with high-quality kitchen and vast three-metre, granitetopped breakfast bar create a luxury living space, while the four bedrooms are havens of calm in which to retreat. A highlight is the sensational master suite with vaulted ceiling, dressing room, en-suite bathroom and private balcony affording breathtaking views across the river. Security comes in the form of a fully integrated phone-controlled security system and Nest camera doorbell, so there is the opportunity to lock up and leave this incredible property with total peace of mind. It’s rare that such a unique riverside property as this comes to market in Devoran, and so it was no surprise that Creek View was purchased very quickly. In light of this, and whether you are looking to purchase your dream Cornish home or to sell your current one, Shore Partnership’s expertise in selling desirable homes in desirable places could be your route to success.

re you looking for a way to revamp your conservatory this year so that you can make the most of the spring and summer months? One costeffective way you can do this is by replacing your conservatory roof, giving you a room you can use every day.

A touch of glass Glass roof replacement helps retain heat whilst reflecting the U rays and heat away much more effectively than panels that may have been installed up to 20 years ago. Modern glass can improve thermal performance by up to 33%, which is in itself a worthwhile investment and can help to reduce your energy bills. You can also customise your replacement conservatory roof by selecting from a range of colours and by upgrading to cornice to hide the gutters. An internal pelmet is also a great way to add insulation, plus you can install downlights and speakers to create an orangery feel. Solid as a rock Another option, is a solid replacement. This kind of roof is designed to mix solid and glass roof panels to create a distinctive contemporary design, which can usually sit on the original window frames, if the

A vaulted, plastered ceiling is available with shaped or rectangle glass panels, allowing for natural light to enter into the room below where needed. Tile with style A tiled conservatory roof replacement can be configured into any style or shape and features full-length glazing windows for a stunning effect. You’ll have control over the design and how you introduce light into your new room, making this space feel less like a re-vamped conservatory and much more like an extension. Finishing touches Once you’ve decided on your choice of new roof, you may want look at changing the furnishings to match – the key here is to not overdo it. Use furniture which brings space, light and colour to the room. If you do choose dark furniture that might be subject to fading, replacement glass with a high U filter can mitigate this from happening.

Red hot, right now

Jo Downs Handmade Glass unveils a stunning series of pieces from the new Crimson Collection.

T

he arrival of spring calls for a much-needed dose of warmth and colour, and at Jo Downs Handmade Glass you can leave the winter blues behind with hot new pieces from Jo’s new Crimson Coast collection. Created in a dazzling red, the collection is accented with a sprinkling of soft pearl and berry tones, with a final reveal of deep ocean blue. It is strikingly different to Jo’s popular palette of aquas and greens and offers a new twist on her typically cool, Cornwall inspired colours. Included in the range are mirrors, bowls, and Jo’s beautiful fold-form vases, which bring this rich new palette of colours together in ripples of light reflecting glass, just right for contrasting the simple beauty of white roses or stems of silvery eucalyptus. For relaxed spring evenings, her Crimson Coast tealight stand is designed to throw an array of warm colours across your table, while the matching coasters are the perfect complement to that well-deserved glass of red wine. Of course, throughout the spring you can still enjoy the hot and cool contrast of o’s Indian Summer collection, and the coastal blues and greens of her Polperro, Gwithian, Samphire, and Shoreline pieces, but if you want to put some heat into your home design this season, Crimson Coast is the red-hot collection for you right now. Also available in limited edition are only a handful of one-off Crimson Coast coloured Shoaling Fish installations, which will be making an appearance variously at their Cornwall galleries, so keep your eyes open! ou can find all of o’s beautiful collections at Jo Downs Handmade Glass galleries across Cornwall at Market Place St Ives, Middle Street Padstow, Fore Street Fowey, Fore Street Tintagel and Pennygillam.

hile energy prices continue to rise, we’re all beginning to feel the pinch of our everincreasing monthly bills, an uncomfortable new reality that many of us are finding difficult to adjust to. owever, reen enU are leading the way forward into a greener, more sustainable way of living, with sustainable alternatives like solar P and battery storage. The team have been taking on countless en uiries and solar installations because of this hike in energy prices, with electricity soon to cost p h after pril and even higher after ctober. s a result, the benefit of a solar installation has more than doubled, meaning you’ll see a typical return on investment of five to eight years. Going solar allows homeowners to reduce their demand from the grid, reduce their electricity bills and, at the same time, reduce their carbon footprint everybody wins! ot only that, you can actually get paid for all the surplus energy you generate and export bac to the national grid, than s to the overnment’s Smart Export uarantee. our solar energy can also be charged into a battery to supply your home overnight and generate hot water, reducing the costs of your heating.

ll of these are options offered by reen enU , however each home and owner are li ely to have differing needs, so it pays to consult the experts to see which solution wor s best for you. hatever that might be, if you are among the growing number of individuals loo ing to ma e a change for the better and safeguard yourself against future energy price-hikes, then the experts at reen enU are there to offer you a bespoke proposal to suit your home, which they can even do remotely!

PLANT OF THE MONTH The Cornish Clifftop Mix is inspired by walks along the coast paths and clifftops of Cornwall. This mix, using cultivated grasses and perennials, aims to bring a reminder of this to a sunny corner of your garden, on top of a Cornish Wall, a rock garden, or in a pot or container. Visit the Plants of Cornwall online shop to find out more.

PLANT TALK Check out the latest gardening vlog from Chris and the team at Plants of Cornwall. Covering all manner of horticultural themes, there are loads of hints, tips and tutorials to be found on the Plants of Cornwall YouTube channel. Visit the website to find out more.

C

hris Plant and his family have horticulture in their DNA. Chris’ parents ran a successful garden centre in Sussex where Chris spent his early years. He then completed an apprenticeship in horticulture and landscaping before setting up his own landscaping business. On moving to Cornwall, with his wife Laine and their children in 2003, Chris quickly teamed up with Mid Cornwall Landscaping and ran the company as Manager for 12 years before taking over the business in 2017. Wanting to expand the business, Plants of Cornwall was the obvious next step. Chris has a clear vision for Plants of Cornwall, wanting it to become more than just a plant supplier; rather using the business as a gateway to helping people find clarity and creativity through gardening, adding to important conversations about why looking after nature is as important as looking after our wellbeing. For the last 30 years, Chris has created beautiful green spaces and gardens and is passionate that gardening and the outdoors benefit our health and environment. It seemed only right to share this with others, which is why Plants of Cornwall was started. “Whether you are an experienced gardener with an established garden or just starting out with a few pots and containers, we hope to help and inspire you to get the

most from your green spaces. We aim to provide locally sourced, quality plants in an environmentally responsible way and to bring a touch of Cornwall to you, wherever you are,” explains Chris. The plant range has been carefully selected, inspired by the unique Cornish landscape and climate, with a specific range of plants, plant mixes, and garden accessories chosen to help you achieve your garden dream. From coastal plants and grasses inspired by the Cornish clifftops and dunes, palms and succulents that emulate some of Cornwall’s famous subtropical gardens, to perennials, trees, and shrubs that attract pollinators, all encourage wildlife and conse uently benefit the environment. Spring is the perfect time to start planning your planting projects so, why not get in touch or visit the Plants of Cornwall website to discover their latest offers, articles and videos on all things plants!

SUSTAINABLE Ideas from Oltco to help us all make our outdoor spaces more sustainable.

O

DISCOVER MORE Feed the bees! By planting wildflowers, you can attract birds, bees and other pollinators into your garden, giving it a feeling of wilderness quite unlike any other planting scheme. The best part, is that many wildflowers actually prefer poor soil and neglect, perfect when low-maintenance is the aim of the game.

swaps

ver the winter months, you may have noticed that your garden has taken something of a battering, particularly in light of the extreme weather we've experienced over the last year. What’s more, households across the UK and beyond are looking for ways in which they can make their gardens more sustainable, more conducive to a green future, and more aligned with our growing sense of need to surround ourselves with nature. Catching up with the team at Oltco, we learn that there are plenty of ways to achieve all of this. The first especially if your fences are in a state of disrepair anyway is to replace them with panels that contain holes for hedgehogs. Hedgehog ‘highways’ ensure these much-loved creatures can pass freely through your garden. Considering that the average hedgehog travels around one mile every night (traversing through our gardens and other greenspaces in search of food and a mate), by cutting a small gap in the bottom of your fence, you can make these wanderings far easier and safer, reducing their need to ‘king of the road’ their way across increasingly busy streets. A gap 13cm wide by 13cm tall is ample, and will be too small for nearly all pets, providing the added bonus of an escape route should your furry friend take an unhealthy liking to these unassuming wanderers. Another consideration to make in gardens that don’t have grass, is to grow your own produce using a VegTrug. Made from sustainable fir, these durable planters

come with purpose-built, fitted membrane liners, and are specifically designed to an easy working height. They provide access for all who wish to ‘grow their own’, and by feeding your family ë é ABOVE The Oltco team with produce grown just outside your back can help bring your door, you can significantly reduce the miles exterior vision associated with your food, and therefore to life your home’s carbon footprint. Finally, if you’re hoping to install a hardstand area in your outdoor space, why not choose Recycle Bound over traditional paving or tarmac? SUDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage System) compliant, Recycle Bound is made to ensure that water drains away from the surface quickly, reducing puddling and ma ing your new outdoor space be it a driveway, outdoor kitchen, or patio alternative as low maintenance as possible. world first, sustainable resin bound solution made using waste plastic currently in circulation, it’s a fantastic way to offset your home’s environmental footprint, contributing to the clearing of waste plastic from the natural world and transforming it into a solution for your home that’s both practical and beautiful.

A boutique gin emporium bringing quality and taste to your glass, from Cornwall and beyond.

T

he Little Gin Shack in Wadebridge is a veritable Aladdin’s cave of gin! The realisation of owner Neil Roberts’ dream of running his own gin shop and bar has survived three lockdowns and continues to evolve, going from strength to strength. A move to a high street position and a major refit has allowed for more seating, with space to browse and sample the vast array of gins on offer. Committed to supporting small, local distilleries you’ll find gins from virtually every distiller in Cornwall, complemented by some of Neil's favourite gins from around the world. As something of a connoisseur, having worked for a major licensing wholesaler for over a decade, Neil and his team are always on hand to help customers navigate the vast array of gins on offer, sharing their passion for the spirit. With a service that sets it apart from others, you’ll never buy ‘blind’ from the Little Gin Shack, as there are tiny tastings on offer to ensure that you leave with a gin for

the perfect serve. Taste is such a personal choice and with such a wide variety of gins on offer, all unique in their use of botanicals, it’s important that your tipple is something that will really excite your tastebuds. The gins are selected based on two simple philosophies: either Neil, or store managers Victoria and Tony, have to love the gin, and the bottle has to appeal to the purchaser. The two go hand in hand as there’s nothing worse than finding you have selected a poor gin in a fancy bottle! The Little Gin Shack’s approach to selling gin is unique in that it doesn’t have a ‘gin menu’ as such; the team prefer to establish the type of gin you like, be that traditional, dry, fruity or spicy. “We will then offer you a taster (with an appropriate mixer, of course) and once you’re happy, serve your choice perfectly, in a proper glass, and with the correct garnish,” explains Neil. “We apply the same philosophy to the

Cornish rum, vodka, brandy, liqueurs, beers and ciders that we stock too,” he continues. This attention to detail has not gone unnoticed as the Little Gin Shack was recently included in the top 10 Independent Shops review conducted by Reach, as well as receiving an award conducted by mystery shoppers and based on TripAdvisor reviews. A full bar service is now available in the new town centre location, which has an outside space in which to enjoy a lunchtime tipple or delicious sundowner. This is also the perfect spot to enjoy an aperitif before dining at one of Wadebridge’s superb restaurants. And, if you have something special to celebrate, why not book in to one of the Little Gin Shack’s bespoke tasting evenings for a special night of gins, matched with food, in the company of friends and guided by Neil’s incredible knowledge. If you aren’t able to visit in person, don’t despair as you can order both gins and other spirits online for delivery to your door. Each bottle is accompanied by tasting notes and advice on the perfect serve, so all you have to do is find your favourite glass, mix and enjoy!

orthleven has, in recent years, become one of Cornwall’s most coveted destinations. Situated right on the South West Coast Path, perfect for anybody walking from the Lizard towards Penwith, the village has heritage firmly embedded in fishing an occupation which many of the same families have been engaged in for generations. It is also a key pin on the map for curious foodies hoping to sample the best of Cornwall’s natural larder, especially the locally caught, seasonal seafood landed by day boats right on the quay. Many restaurants and cafés have found their feet here in the harbourside of Porthleven, and the beauty of them together is that they each offer something vastly different. Perhaps none more so, than Dan Dan the Lobster Man. Created by local dad and daughter team, Dan Dan the Lobster Man can be found right on the edge of the harbour, with a fantastic view of the waters at the heart

of Porthleven. Jasmine, 21, came up with the idea for the business, using her dad’s catch to offer fresh seafood to locals and visitors, straight from the boat to the plate. Promoting local, sustainable fishing is a high priority for the team who have formed a cooperative between themselves and the local fishermen, all of whom receive a fair price for their lobsters. Fresh lobster, crab and prawn salads, sandwiches and platters are on the menu, and visitors are free to bring their favourite wine along with them to pop into one of the wine coolers on hand. With a team made up of local family and friends, the staff are always smiling and ready to help with anything you might need, so make sure to stop by for a real taste of Cornwall.

pending his days sending people down zip-lines over the iconic biomes of the Eden Project, we catch up with Duty Manager, James, about his life as an Outdoor Instructor. ut first, a bit about angloose dventure and how it aims to help the local community. The company prides itself on offering employment to locals. It’s a business that believes hiring from Cornwall’s deep pool of talent signals to customers that it’s truly invested in Cornwall and the surrounding areas; in supporting Cornwall’s growth, the wellbeing of the population, and the health of the local community. There’s no doubt that the team love to be outdoors in all types of weather, working at heights and ensuring visitors have an amazing time on the zip-wire, giant swing, aerial trekking course and all the other activities they have to offer. To find out more, we ask James a few questions to gain an insight into life as an outdoor instructor here in Cornwall.

How did you become an instructor at Hangloose Adventure? “I started as a technician,” says James, who began wor ing at angloose at the age of 19, “working my way to Instructor and then Senior Instructor as my experience grew, and following the appropriate training. This led to my current role as Duty Manager.” James explains that in his early 20s, he spent a lot of time travelling, “the seasonal nature of the business allowing some flexibility for this over the winter months , but now he is well and truly settled here in ornwall. I love the benefits of having a to 5 job, whilst still being able to work outside.”

Did you always want to work outdoors? efinitely! What does a typical day involve? “With safety at the forefront of every instructor’s mind, the morning sees a lot of equipment checking and organisation for the day ahead,” says James. “Once everything has been cleared as working and safe to use, our attention turns to making our visitors feel as comfortable as possible, ensuring they have the best time that they can! e have a great team here at angloose, and everyone plays an important role in the smooth running of the site. We have a lot of fun, too.” What is the best part of working as an instructor? “I would say it’s helping people to overcome genuine fears,” explains James. “We get a lot of visitors who are petrified of heights, and don’t always anticipate what a challenge some of the activities may be. It’s so rewarding getting someone down the zip wire with confidence when they had previously refused. The adrenaline is infectious, and they usually as to go again!

How should anybody reading this look to start their own career as an instructor? “I would say that a desire to support and help people is essential, along with a love for the outdoors, as it can get very wet sometimes! ualifications aren’t always necessary either if you have good social skills, a good attitude and are keen to learn, then there’s always room on the team for you.” The good news is that angloose dventure is loo ing for more individuals li e ames to join the team. nd it’s really a fantastic company to work for; as well as offering incredible adventure experiences with the iconic Eden Project as a backdrop, angloose wor s to help and support local charities based in Cornwall and the south west, so within your new role there you’d be part of a company that genuinely seeks to give back. Indeed, the team love hearing stories about individuals or organisations doing amazing things to help the community, even more so if they can be involved. nd whilst they receive requests from all over the UK, they ma e it a priority to first help those charities and organisations within the ‘PL’ and ‘TR’ postcode areas. So if you would like to make a booking for a fundraising event, be sure to get in touch and let them know how angloose dventure can help.

DID YOU KNOW? Kernow Adventure Park opens for the 2022 season from 1st May and activities can be prebooked online at www.kernowadventurepark.com

s the days lengthen and we’re enjoying lighter and brighter evenings our thoughts turn to the fun that the spring and summer of 2022 will bring. If you’re packing up the car for another adventure, why not head to Kernow Adventure Park, just a short 10-minute drive from the popular seaside town of Falmouth? The team have been busy over the winter, working hard to look after and manage the flourishing wildlife and natural habitats that thrive at this granite quarry, building a seating area and installing an exciting, new attraction. Looking out across the quarry each season and hearing the laughter and excitement from the Aqua Park, the team thought that while fun was being had, what could they offer their youngest of visitors? Being in the business of fun and memory making, there is a wonderful new attraction this year that can be enjoyed by everyone, age two and up: E-boats! Be part of the crew from age two (accompanied by an adult over 18) or be the captain of your own ship from 12 and over, and take a leisurely cruise around the lake, navigating your way through the slalom course, to the outer edge of the quarry where you can experience the Adventure

Park from a new perspective. The fact-packed information boards dotted across the course are a fun way to learn about the rich culture and heritage of Cornish quarrying. magine a beautiful blue ocean, waves gently breaking on one end of a golden sandy beach and building to sweeping rollers at the other. It’s a bright spring morning and you’re faced with a dilemma – to swim, to surf or to paddleboard? The choices seem endless. Whichever direction you decide to go they’ll all be better than the inertia that has marked our lives during the recent Covid lockdowns. The benefits of cold water immersion have been demonstrated to help with mental and physical health – improved sleep, mindfulness, confidence, the reduction of stress response, blood circulation and rheumatism. However, unless you’re a superhero, you’ll need the correct attire or kit to get the full benefits from any of these activities. e it a simple pair of swimming shorts and rash vest, through to the most advanced fibreglass surfboard and everything else in between. This is where MAD Water Sports can help. The team here know their foils from their foamies, and it would be odd if they didn’t, having been surfing and swimming off the north Cornwall coast for the past 20 years, along with running a successful outdoor activity centre. Ironically it was the onset of the pandemic that galvanised them into creating a retail outlet. They had to act uic ly as they saw the ta e up of their instructor led courses drop off a cliff as new rules came into place. So, in 2020 a new business began trading, tentatively at first but as we emerged from the pandemic, the pace is picking up. At their completely refurbished unit just outside Wadebridge you enter a spacious area replete with a new mezzanine level; decked

out with a wide range of sustainable top uality surfboards, paddleboards, bodyboards and a full range of paddles. There are also hydrofoils, wings, and foil boards, along with windsurfers, available to view and purchase in the shop. n the lower floor there are heaps of useful accessories, including uality wetsuits from several world renowned manufacturers, change robes and dry bags. Very consciously they have managed to create a unique shopping experience, where the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. Help and grounded advice is always on hand but not to the point where you will feel pressured. esides selling an extensive range of products they are also aware of the provenance of these items. They strive to ensure that they are sourced and supplied from companies who are keen to reduce plastic in their packaging, develop articles manufactured to ensure a long lifespan and, by monitoring all processes, reduce their carbon footprint. So, whether you just want to hit the sea for the occasional swim or to take it to the next level, we suggest you head to MAD Water Sports to tap into a wealth of knowledge and ensure you purchase the correct kit for your waterborne adventure. You won’t be disappointed.

Showcasing local artists and art galleries 2. COWHOUSE GALLERY

Evening Glow over the Mount by Wendy Powell Situated in the picturesque coastal village of Perranuthnoe, the Cowhouse Gallery is run entirely by a group of local artists and craftspeople, offering a wide range of original pieces including paintings, ceramics, jewellery, glass and more! Make sure to pay the gallery a visit, which is open daily 11am to 4pm wintertime, and 10am to 5pm summertime.

Janet has been painting professionally for over 30 years and has exhibited widely throughout the country. She prefers to work in the landscape itself, starting with preliminary studies, which often lead to a series of paintings in that landscape, each looser than the last. Her work moves beyond just describing the subject to also conveying its atmosphere and her own emotional response to it. Janet loves the play of colours against each other using the freedom and pure colours of watercolour. She walks on the coast path most days and this is inevitably a huge inspiration for her work. Janet’s vibrant work can be seen in the Spring Exhibition at Lizard Art from Saturday 2nd April. Opening Wednesday to Sunday, 11am to 3pm. SPRING A

PROPOSAL Spring is the time for new life and renewed hope, which makes it the perfect time to get down on one knee.

P

icture this: the dark winter days are over, colourful flowers can be seen everywhere, and people seem to have a ‘spring’ in their step. With restrictions lifting around Covid, this spring could make the start of a new beginning for everybody. Spring is the time for new life, new hope and new excitement, which makes it one of the perfect times to pop the question. Ethica Diamonds have come up with a handy little guide with some ideas on how to perfect your spring proposal. aving started business in 2011, Ethica have hundreds of reviews, all crediting the five star service that they receive from the customer service team. Led by company owner Elaine and her daughter, Emily, Ethica specialise in sustainable and eco friendly lab grown jewellery. ased in the heart of Truro, they offer two types of stones the Ethica iamond, their lab grown gemstone and lab grown diamonds. There are plenty of factors to consider when purchasing an engagement ring, but than s to Ethica, the ethics are not one of them, leaving more time for you to come up with the perfect spring proposal, safe in the knowledge that their jewellery is made using ind, not mined, gemstones and diamonds, with Fairtrade metal used where possible.

With daffodils ‘springing’ up all over the place, why not take your partner to a field of flowers for a picnic a lovely intimate, and beautiful location, to pop the question. Tehidy woods is a great place to do this. You could also take them to a breathta ing viewpoint, for example Lizard Point, or perhaps the headland overlooking the lighthouse at Godrevy? Ethica have lots of spring proposal ideas on their website, so be sure to head there for more inspiration! However you plan to propose, if you’re ready to start the search for engagement rings, be sure to get in touch with Ethica Diamonds.

Wave

POWER

Mike Lacey is the master of capturing surf on camera and is taking wave photography to new heights.

G

rowing up in Windermere, Mike Lacey had a Cornish dream. As soon as he could drive, the Duchy and its world-class surf and reef brea s were his first stop. hat started as a hobby, riding and capturing waves for fun, became more than just a pastime for Mike when he opened his gallery in the harbour town of Porthleven, just yards from the ocean. He now spends his days chasing the swells around Cornwall, looking for the ultimate in wave photography. “Capturing a wave in its most beautiful and critical form before it breaks is such an amazing feeling,” says Mike. “Those moments are there for just a split second and gone the next, but they are so breathtaking when caught in a still photo.” Mike is able to print and display these moments to almost life-size proportions for everyone to enjoy. This allows the viewer to be transported back to the very moment the photo was taken, invoking all kinds of different feelings. Mike explains further: “The way my images bring out people’s imaginations is another reason I continue to take them and ‘Cornish Dreams’ is a prime example of this. The turquoise blues of the ocean and perfect summer s ies filling the frame are simply stunning, leaving many people speechless as to its real location – the dream of a tropical island destination not being so far away.” Mike’s images are available as prints and limited editions as well as splashbacks, which really add the wow-factor to any kitchen. Mike has also recently published a book, Cornish Waves: Chasing Perfection, which documents not only his best work to date but also his own ocean adventures, such as the ambitious paddle board to the Isles of Scilly in aid of Surfers Against Sewage. The book has already received much acclaim, winning the prestigious 2021 Gorsedh Kernow Holyer

an Gof Publisher’s Award for Leisure and Lifestyle in the non fiction category. For Mike, being able to capture the beautiful coastline of Cornwall brings him so much joy, and hearing people’s reactions to his photographs when they walk into the gallery is just incredible. “I really am living the Cornish dream!”

An independent streetwear brand is bringing style and legitimacy to urban outfitting in Cornwall.

A

re you the kind of person who gets it done at all cost? Are your days spent pushing yourself to be the best you can be? Are you someone who is willing to put the effort in to achieve results? If so, then Mustard, a Cornish clothing brand established in 2015, will take you effortlessly from day to night, in comfort and style. Founders Tom Cheeseman and Jack Nowell, both elite sportsmen and individual pioneers in their own right, combined a childhood love of streetwear and a vision to ‘afford armour to the ambitious’ to create a premium, streetwear collection designed to meet the demands of the ‘athleisure’ market. The range, which is designed, printed and finished locally in ornwall, is manufactured from heavyweight, durable fabrics chosen to withstand the rigours of modern living. Fit is paramount, so all of the garments are carefully selected to ensure maximum comfort. Block, bold colours mean that you can mix and match tees, joggers and hoodies with ease. The designs are effortless and logos minimalist meaning that Mustard clothing is as suitable for pulling on posttraining as it is for chilling out on beach days or enjoying a sundowner at the bar. There is

also a vibrant range of accessories including beanies, caps and backpacks that are perfect for whatever weather or adventure you might encounter! Tom and ac identified that there was a lack of legitimacy within the streetwear market in Cornwall, and so created a brand pulling together Cornwall’s elemental essences; sun, sea and the Atlantic breeze. The collection is growing each season and Mustard is in talks with several UKbased factories in the hope that they will be able to move to full-scale production onto British soil very soon. However, and not unsurprisingly for Tom and Jack, the ambition doesn’t stop there: “Our dream is to bring all of the production to Cornwall one day,” says Tom. Mustard currently has two lifestyle stores in Looe and St Ives, plus an easy-to-navigate online shop from where you can get your ustard fix anywhere, anytime!

THE BEAUTY OF

s e d a r t s u l ba

With striking designs and great functionality, a glass privacy balustrade can create a unique personal space to enjoy year-round.

O

ver recent years, glass balustrades have become very popular, not least for their striking, contemporary design, ease of cleaning, durability, safety and strength, but also the fact that they afford the illusion of space. We are all familiar with the clear glass versions, often used so that views are uninterrupted and light is let through to create an expansive atmosphere. However, as we discover from experts in the field, estrel Specialist andrail Systems, the use of a satin or opa ue glass finish as opposed to clear glass can create a really striking look. estrel installs balustrades, uliet balconies and privacy screens using 316-grade mirror polished stainless-steel posts and handrails, which are particularly suited to coastal areas, and when combined with opa ue glass create a personal environment with excellent weather protection. The versatility of using glass as a privacy screen means that you can create everything from a sheltered, private balcony to a full-height wind break. Or, if you are looking to create a low-level, secluded seating area, the use of satin glass means you get the benefit of privacy, while still being able to enjoy the view when moving around. There is also the option of using a combination of privacy and clear glass panels in different areas depending on what you want to obscure.

Privacy glass screens and balustrades are also an excellent choice for hot tub and barbe ue areas, with the added benefit that they can be bac lit, ta ing you stylishly from day to night with mood lighting. However, such screening shouldn’t have to be purely functional; estrel recommends ma ing it a feature within your outdoor space and by using opa ue glass the result will be both visually stunning as well as functional. While a glass balustrade might be more costly than other materials, it is an investment that will last for many years to come. So, if you are loo ing to enjoy some garden seclusion, while retaining your view, then the estrel team of dedicated team experts are on-hand to help you achieve your vision!

ABOVE é New laws will help couples to divorce with dignity INSET Kelly Grigg

The advent of a new law is set to allow couples to divorce with dignity; family solicitor Kelly Grigg of Grigg’s Law explains the process.

S

eparation and divorce can be incredibly difficult and painful for all parties involved, none of which has historically been made any easier by a law that has stood since . Under this law, a marriage could only be dissolved based on one of five facts, all of which either re uired couples to apportion blame or remain in a ‘state of limbo’ for two to five years. owever, with the new ivorce, issolution and Separation ct that is anticipated to become law as of th pril , couples will be allowed to ta e a more dignified approach when it comes to formally ending a marriage. s elly rigg explains The ct will mean that there is now only one ground for a divorce, and that is that the marriage has irretrievably bro en down and an application for divorce can now be made by one or both parties jointly. There will be no

need to explain why, or having to indicate which of the five factors you are relying upon, meaning some of the acrimony and anxiety has been removed. In family law, we always encourage a non confrontational approach wherever possible and so we welcome this new ct with open arms. nything that can reduce conflict and the damaging effect it can have on couples, and their children in particular, is a great benefit, adds elly. ivorce is never an easy topic to address, but with professional advice from a solicitor such as elly, navigating tough times can be made as stress free as possible.

t i f e n e b e Th OF ADVICE

T

What does an increasing VAT rate mean for local businesses? Steve Maggs, Tax Partner at chartered accountancy firm, RRL, explains.

he last two years have been incredibly challenging for all UK businesses in the hospitality sector, with forced closures, staff shortages and supply issues. However, the temporarily reduced VAT rates of 5% initially, and now 12.5% – introduced by the government as a Covid-19 support measure – have certainly helped soften the blow. But from 1st April 2022, the rates are set once again to increase back to the pre-Covid standard of 20%. This, says Steve, is the information available under current proposals (which are subject to the Spring Statement due on 23rd March), but it’s looking like the temporary reduced rate is going to end, which will ultimately mean that affected supplies will revert to 20% VAT from the start of April.

To prepare for the increase, Steve suggests that VAT registered businesses will need to ensure that their tills and accounting systems are set up correctly to apply the increased rate of 20%. In fact, he explains: “There are a number of practical issues to consider, including the supplies which will be directly affected.” These include: food and non-alcoholic drinks sold for on-premises consumption; hot takeaway food and hot takeaway non-alcoholic drinks; sleeping accommodation in hotels and similar establishments; holiday accommodation, pitch fees for caravans, tents and associated facilities; admissions to tourist attractions such as theatres, museums, cinemas, historic houses, fairs, amusement parks and similar cultural events and facilities.

é ABOVE

Could your business benefit from the reduced VAT rate?

BELOW Steve Maggs

VAT Savings for suppliers Preparation for all of the above is key, but in the meantime, there are still opportunities for suppliers to maximise the benefit of the temporary reduced tax rates, by bringing forward the ‘tax point’ of the supply so that VAT is accounted for at 12.5%, rather than 20%. There are two ways in which to do this, says Steve. The first, is to receive part or full payment during the reduced rate period for a supply which will take place after the rate increase. Take, for example, a caravan park offering pitch fees for the 2022 summer season when the VAT rate will be 20%. If the park receives a deposit or full payment before 1st April 2022, they can account for VAT on the amount received at 12.5%. Any balancing payment received after 31st March 2022 will be subject to VAT at 20%. The park may consider offering an early payment discount to the customer to encourage them to pay before 31st March 2022. This will provide a cash saving for the customer, and a T saving and cash flow benefit to the business. The second way, is to raise a valid VAT invoice before 31st March 2022. An example here would be the owner of a furnished holiday let, who could issue a valid VAT invoice to their customer on 28th February 2022, for a stay which is due to take place in May. The raising of the invoice creates a tax point for VAT of 28th February 2022, when the VAT rate for holiday accommodation is 12.5%. Even if the customer does not pay all or some of the invoice until after 31st March 2022, the VAT rate can remain at 12.5%. Crucially, the invoice must be raised before 1st April 2022.

VAT savings for customers For customers who can’t fully reclaim tax input, it may be beneficial to pre pay for some hospitality supplies before 1st April 2022, thereby creating a tax point for VAT when the lower rate of 12.5% still applies. It’s worth noting, that this will only benefit the customer where supplies are advertised on a VAT exclusive basis, so that the VAT added to the bill is at the temporary reduced rates. Otherwise, the VAT saving will be retained by the supplier. VAT Flat Rate Scheme (FRS) hen the temporary reduced rate was first introduced in uly , the flat rate percentages for many hospitality related categories were reduced, leading many businesses to leave FRS, particularly those that had a lot of 5% VAT sales and relatively few sales at 20%. These businesses may now wish to consider re-joining the FRS, so long as they have been out of it for at least 12 months, as the rates within the scheme are expected to be adjusted from 1st April. These adjustments are expected to see a rise for catering services, including restaurants and takeaways, from 8.5% to 12.5%; an increase from 5.5% to 10.5% for hotels and accommodation; as well as a rise from 4% to 6.5% for pubs. Here in Cornwall, where hospitality and accommodation are very much mainstay industries, there will likely be a number of businesses affected by the forthcoming VAT changes. If yours is among them, and you’d like to discuss any practical issues or opportunities to obtain a T benefit, then be sure to contact Steve Maggs and the team of experts at RRL Cornwall.

BE AN EARLY

DETECTOR

As April is bowel cancer awareness month, Duchy Hospital offers advice around Colorectal Cancer detection and treatment.

W

e talk to Consultant Colorectal Surgeons, Mr Faux and Mrs Feldman, who have given us information, advice and tips on what to look for. Bowel cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death in the UK and yet if detected early it can be treated successfully with a high chance of cure. The difficulty is that it can be hard to spot at an early stage and Bowel Cancer Awareness Month aims to help us all know when to seek help. Symptoms include blood in the poo or from the bottom, unexplained changes in bowels, anaemia, lumps in the bottom or the abdomen, weight loss or abdominal pain. When any of these are present GPs can fast track patients for tests; Cornwall’s fast track service is run by specialist nurses and is a national exemplar. However, for some people there are no signs at all at an early stage. The National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme is an effective way to improve our chances, as individuals, and for the population as a whole. The Bowel Cancer Screening Programme is offered from age 60 to 75 but over the next few years will be offered from age 50. If blood is found in the poo sample, a consultation is offered to discuss

colonoscopy or sometimes CT scans. Early cancers are sometimes removed at the time of a colonoscopy with no further treatment needed. Surgery itself is usually completed in a keyhole fashion and most patients having surgery will not need to have a stoma (bag) at any point. In Cornwall almost two thirds of patients stayed in hospital five days or less to have their cancer operation. The county has a single hospital trust and a single private care provider. All patients who develop colon cancer have treatment planned on an individual basis by the multi-disciplinary team at the Royal Cornwall Hospital. So, take up every offer of screening and if you notice changes in the way your bowels work, lumps, pain or blood, call your GP. Alternatively, call the Private Patient team at Duchy Hospital to book a consultation with one of the Consultant Colorectal Surgeons, on 01872 438079.
