WELCOME TO THE NEW TSA CATALOGUE You may have noticed we’ve changed to our logo over the summer. With a cleaner, simpler look, we think our new identity reflects the direction that snowboarding has taken over the past few seasons. We last changed our logo way back in the early 90s, back then it reflected the punk attitude that guided the direction of our sport, but alas, with a heavy heart we’ve had to realise that we’ve all grown up and that our beloved sport has grown up with us. But that doesn’t mean we should become all straight laced and sensible, this isn’t skiing. With that in mind let’s have a look at what we have in store for you for this season. Well, the most obvious place to start is the continuing growth of the free carve/snow surf market. With just about every brand climbing on board this wagon, there’s never been a better time to be a freerider. If you’ve never tried one of these boards, make this winter the season that you do. Also, worth mentioning is the new Bataleon line. For 17/18 they’ve introduced their 3rd generation 3BT, this stunning evolution of their exclusive triple base profile has to be ridden to be believed. However, it’s not just hard goods where we’ve made changes; our outerwear line also sees some evolution. The most obvious being the introduction of DC and reintroducing Bonfire back into the range. These two brands offer stunning performance and great value. Alongside our logo change we’re also introducing an all new TSA website for 17/18. This totally new site will showcase our whole range, with detailed descriptions, video reviews and buying guides, it’s going to be the number 1 resource for anyone looking to buy new kit. And it should be mentioned, with no shortage of thanks, that some of our biggest fans have been those that took a risk on year one. The shops, reps and distributers that went out on a limb and took a chance on a few punk-ass pros launching a new brand, have stumbled, grown, and evolved along with us. It’s hard to imagine where we’d be… or even if we’d be, without them. These people have grown to expect a lot from us, and without hesitation, we put that same pressure of high expectations on ourselves. To remain true to why we started and ignore the noise around us has become a bit of a mantra around here. SNOWBOARD BOOTS
It can’t be stressed enough, but if there’s one thing you need to get right on your set-up, it’s the boots. Now as important as it is in terms of being the interface between the rider and the board, what’s more important with boots is getting the fit right. You could have the best board and binding setup in the world, you could be the best rider in the world, but if your feet hurt, you’re going to have a rubbish day. When you visit a TSA store for new boots, we’ll generally run through a set procedure to ensure we get the best fitting boots for you. This starts with the no1 rule for buying boots which is, ‘don’t be fixated on any one brand’. And here’s why. Every snowboard boot (and shoe) starts life based around what is known as a last. This foot shaped mould is the foundation for the shape of the inner boot. However, every brand uses their own unique design of last. Some brands use a narrow last, some a wider last, some are narrow in the forefoot whilst being wider in the heel, some are wider in the forefoot and narrower in the heel, whilst some are higher and some are lower. Basically, what this means is try on different brands because they all have a different fit, when you get the one that is a closest fit to your foot shape, you’ll have the very best starting point to get a

super comfy boot. Remember though, even if you’ve been riding one brand of boots for a while, manufacturers do change their last shape from time to time, so our advice is to still try on a few different brands.
For this season, just about every boot we sell has a custom fit liner. This heat mouldable technology allows our boot fitters to custom match the liner to the unique contours of your feet. So, once you have the shape of your foot nailed with the last, we’ll then heat the liners up in store, get you to stand in the boots and complete that final step to get you the best fitting boots we can. Heat moulding reduces potential pressure points within the liner, helps secure the foot by forming the liner around the heel and increases comfort by reducing the need to really crank the boots up tight to secure the foot. So, the moral of the story is, when you come to the store give yourself plenty of time to get your boots right. Try on different brands, understand how the boot is meant to fit and get them heat moulded. That’s how you’re going to get the best fitting boots. A snowboard is similar to thoroughbred sports car, you can not bother to spend any time maintaining it and it’ll still work, but like the sports car it’s not going to perform at its best and one day it’s just going to let you down. The plus side is it’s not going to leave you stranded by the roadside, the downside it’s still probably going to leave you with a long walk as your board runs out of speed down that long flat section. The best way to stop this is to keep your board serviced. It’s pretty simple to do (there’s tons of video how to’s out there) and pretty inexpensive, plus it’ll make a whole lot of difference to your riding. Get yourself a basic servicing set up and you won’t ever need to be the slowest rider on the mountain again.

WOMEN’S BOARDS Over the past few seasons we’ve seen women’s snowboarding progress at a pace like never before. With a new generation of elite riders coming through, the sport has seen a level of progression both in the park and in the pipe that has been nothing short of incredible. Riders now go bigger, tricks are more technical and that gap between the top male riders and the top female riders has definitely narrowed. But this revolution isn’t just confined to park and pipe, we’ve also seen the same story unfolding on the World Freeride Tour, but even more positive, we’ve also seen a trickledown effect of this evolution becoming more apparent in recreational riders.
