LOUD AND PROUD Making a bold statement with its theme, “We Can, We Do, We Will,” the staff chose an impressive Metallic Brushed Black Diamond cover material. Two silkscreen inks provide dimension in the form of outlined type layered with a blocky sans serif, and yet another level is shown by the blind deboss. It’s always nice when the theme can merge with the school name for added effect. The school-color type is continued on the spine, and the all-caps headline style finds its way to both dividers and smaller uses. Throughout, this staff’s can-do attitude really shines through.

Bullnanza

The blue printed cover and super thin gold line are school colors and carried throughout. Two sans serif font families are paired to support the modern, clean look that began on the cover.

Adding the laser-cut cover and foil on the endsheet made this cover really stand out. And, the fact that the horizon on the front endsheet and the cover line up so well is a “chef’s kiss” to the cover production department.

In a stunning use of contrast, the staff took a literal theme approach, reminding students to look “On the Bright Side.” The sunrise on the front lid and sunset on the back speak to their endurance through the unusually tough school year — echoed by the theme copy that calls out both embracing change and powering through adversity.

SUBTLE INTENTION To support the idea of “Overgrowth,” the cover features a close-up photo and uses Raised Gloss UV to outline the veins of the leaves — adding shine and texture. The coating also covers the script font for the theme on the font lid. The back lid continues the image, giving the context of where the plant appears on the campus (a recognizable statue appears in background.)the Also, another cool detail, the foliage on the front cover is coated with Suede lamination where the rest of the image has Gloss UV, which provides a nice contrast and lends depth to the dark crimson leaves.

Inside the book, the super thin and super tall characters are repeated on dividers and joined by a chunky display font (which resembles a wide marker) as well as a handwriting font. This three-font combo continues throughout providing a text-asartwork look. Using dividersseasonaltobreak up the year, coverage can be organized logically for easy reader access. In 2020-21, uncertaintiestheof the year and the need for greater flexibility meant more staffs listed only division page numbers on the endsheet, but many wisely followed with a complete listing for all coverage on each section s divider.

SAME SECTIONS, NEW NAMES Many schools choose to organize their content traditionally and to rename the sections in order to strengthen the theme. Literal spin-offs — where the section titles repeat a word from the theme — are popular, but the possibilities are endless. Renaming the book’s sections can be a powerful way to help readers better understand the theme from the start. Don’t forget to label the sectional content alongside the typetitles;theme-advancingnewitcanbesmallerasitsonlythereforreference.

A stunning, local image dominates the opening and — while it looks simple — nuanced decisions were made at every turn. It s no surprise that the closing is similar, but reversed, with the photo bleeding off the left and similarly designed copy to the right. Stunning!

As the only permanent record of the school year, the yearbook is seen as the ultimate document of truth. People often say that if it s not recorded in the yearbook, in five years, it will be as if it happened.never

There’s a definite trend toward creating a cohesive senior ad section that ties visually to the look of the entire volume. Using familiar colors, fonts and graphics in ads makes sense, and it’s a terrific way to increase the impact of the section. Flexibility in ad size can increase variety as well. Evermore sells five sizes of ads, dividing each page into 12 blocks. Offering a variety of sizes and prices means more students have the opportunity for their stand-alone moment of senior celebration.
