YOU MADE IT LOOK EASY We know better. Storytelling is an art. Scholastic journalists do more than just record history. You told the stories that really matter. You collected details of the best and richest days shared. Most importantly, you timestamped the year, capturing what makes each year just a little bit different than all others.

Instead of creating a whole-book look, this is a volume with 16 similar but distinctive sections. There’s more variet y, even though the same display fonts and general graphic devices are used throughout in different ways. Like many other staffs, the end of the year was cause for celebration. And, with a simple collection of three distinctive fonts and some hand-drawn arrows, scribbles and asterisks, the design aesthetic is both identifiable and flexible. Those who want to see school colors gold and black can, but the selected tone is a great pop of color that works well with the bullet journal allusion. It’s often said that the cover is the staf f’s presentation of not just the theme statement, but also their “promise” of what the readers can expect on the inside. TAKE NOTE We love the clever graphic word play in the introduction of the four umbrella sections on the front endsheet. And, the way the back endsheet brings the theme full circle with white boxes and bars on the background.golden LEGEND HS Epic | PARKER, CO

We Are More Than This W hat a powerful way to share stories in a year when nothing was certain! The cover underscores the message with its simplicity, as the navy and white, type-only design leaves the doors open for brilliance and surprises inside. A openingthree-spreadbreaks the theme down. A single, captioned accompaniedimageby a portion of the theme phrase and detailed copy tells the story of a proud school.

TAKE NOTE The folio/ACD bar is great. Not only does it provide all necessary details and a repetition of the spreads’ pick-up color, but hundreds more voices help advance the theme!

MOVEMENTCREATING

That s not to say it doesn’t make sense. White space wins the day as spreads are lively but orderly and easy to read. It’s a pleasure.

The Only Way Is Through R ather than pretend it was normal, Titanium staffers captured the year as it was, beginning with the theme — of course. TAKE NOTE The book ends with fullspread coverage of the in-person graduation (with appropriate safety protocols) that allowed the school to celebrate that — together — they’d made it through the year’s unprecedented challenges.

The visual effect of movement is hard to miss on this striking cover, and the addition of embossing under the letters is key. As opposed to black and gray of the cover, the inside is an explosion of color with five brights joining the chunky black font — and more movement as type is set in different alignments, spreads are turned sideways and the sans serif font family gets full use. The upsidedown and sideways type on the cover goes right along with the inside pages after all.

COVERAGECLOSINGCOVERAGE PROFILE SET YOUR VCR Throwback designs are so popular, even with students who barely remember what a VCR tape box looked like. (This one is a take on the Sony brand boxes from the 80s.) The heavy use of black and rainbow-like banding continues inside as the school celebrates not only its 100th year but its first year in a newly renovated building. Even in 2020-21, they found lots of reasons be light-hearted and celebrate the year. KEARNY HS Lamp Post | KEARNY, NJ

Every D ay, A Gift F acing challenges, but delighted to return to school in-person as the year bega n Twister editors decided to look at each day from a different perspective — and focus on opportunities instead of Beginningdifficulties.literally with rule lines and color bars that create ribbons and a loose script that appears handwritten as bows on the cover, endsheet and title page, the theme is explained with schoolspecific examples in the two-spread opening.

BIG WALNUT HS The Eagle | SUNBURY,

Because the opening spreads’ single images are of a new senior tradition and an annual middle school activity, the third dominant photo is of lower school students finishing an outdoor break on the pre K 12 campus — yet another reminder of the staff’s attention to detail.

On coverage spreads, the edged color bars contain headlines and the scripty accent font continues as layers of coverage capture the events and emotions of the year from all academic levels.
