CES 2018: Tech Giants Showcased Game-Changing Innovations CES 2018 expo showcased future ready innovations under one roof where over 3, 900 exhibitors and 900 startups marked their presence. The 4 daylong event took place in Las Vegas, Nevada.

ES®2018 opened its doors unveiling the next-generation of technology designed to improve our lives and address global challenges across a record-breaking show floor that spans more than 2.75 million net square feet of exhibit space and features more than 3,900 exhibitors, including some 900 startups. More than 20,000 products launched at CES 2018 this week. Owned and produced by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), CES 2018 runs through Friday, January 12, in Las Vegas, Nevada. “The future of innovation is on display this week at CES, with technology that will empower consumers and change our world for the better,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CTA. “Every major industry is represented here at CES 2018, with global brands and a record-number of startups unveiling products that will revolutionize how we live, work and play. From the latest in self-driving vehicles, smart cities, AI, sports tech, robotics, health and fitness tech and more, the innovation at CES 2018 will further global business and spur new jobs and new markets around the world.” Intel’s CEO, Brian Krzanich, took the stage for the preshow CES keynote to celebrate innovation and explore what’s next for big data. “[Data is the] unseen driving force behind the next great wave of tech innovation,” he said. Intel will bring VR content to the upcoming Winter Olympics through its immersive media plan and True View platform, delivering the largest ever VR experience across 30 sports programs. Former NFL star Tony Romo joined the stage to further highlight how VR will transform the consumer experience for live 6

sports, offering the potential to view from virtually any angle through 360-degree cameras, incredible data storage and super computing power. During his presentation, Krzanich also noted the recent opening of Intel Studios, a new workplace in Los Angeles, California to film, gave a live demo of an Intel-powered autonomous “human drone” Volocopter and set a Guiness World Record with its Shooting Star Mini Drone show – the most advanced software fleet of 100 drones controlled without GPS by one pilot. The day prior, CTA’s Steve Koenig and Lesley Rohrbaugh presented Tech Trends to Watch at CES 2018. They identified expected major CES trends such as ingredient technologies like AI and 5G that will permeate the product announcements, as well as native interfaces, smart cities, and digital therapeutics. They also announced the 2018 tech industry revenue at $351 billion dollars – a 3.9 percent increase over 2017. Tuesday evening featured the largest CES Unveiled in history. The official media event of CES 2018 spotlighted a record 204 exhibiting companies, including 72 startups from Eureka Park, the most startups ever showcased at CES Unveiled. Featuring the latest in AI, smart home, virtual reality, emotion sensing robots, Alexa-enabled mirrors, smart headphones, smart lighting and more, CES Unveiled provided more than 1,900 media with a sneak peak of the innovation launched at the show.

Deloitte India Tech Predictions Suggest Major Advances on AI, Augmented Reality, Machine Learning & VoLTE More than 60% of all broadband subscribers will utilize Voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology, surpassing 5 billion subscribers globally by 2023

Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India LLP’s (DTTILLP or Deloitte India) eighth edition of signature publication on Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) predicts major advances in machine learning, VoLTE technology services and Over the Top (OTT) platforms, apart from other trends. VoLTE is expected to be the most prevalent voice technology in the future. It is also estimated that more than 90% of all mobile subscribers will comprise of broadband subscribers by 2023. OTT platforms are witnessing an explosion in original content due to increase in consumption and viewership, the report says, adding that they will gradually become a preferred medium over television, with the consumers of vernacular content likely to become over 2.5 times that of English language content by 2021. The publication highlights the fact that ‘Machine Learning’ will intensify among medium and large-sized enterprises. Compared to 2017, the number of implementations and pilot projects using machine learning technology is likely to double in 2018 and then doubling again in 2020. As enterprises in India embrace technology to bring transparency and efficiency in business operations, data assumes center stage in decision-making, setting the stage for tools such as advanced analytics and machine learning to usher value-chain efficiencies, a Deloitte India spokesperson said. In 2018, technologies like OTT, VoLTE and Machine Learning will make significant progress and as organizations take steps to realize the potential of the Internet of Things (IoT) for their businesses, predictive analytics and intelligent data mining technologies are set to become main stream in India. “India is one of the fastest growing technology market in APAC, with the on-going digital transformation of public sector and private sector enterprises enabled by changing market dynamics and policy interventions. Enterprises across industries are increasingly adopting technology driven solutions to improve customer experience, optimize business operations, and compete effectively in the market. Catalyzed by the availability of cost effective computing infrastructure and flexible business models through Cloud computing,

Here are some more highlights from the TMT Predictions 2018 India edition: Internet of Things, Realizing the Potential IoT-driven point solutions will be adopted to solve a specific business issue. IoT-driven enterprise solutions would help organizations redefine their business models and provide innovative services for their customers; investments will not only be assessed on KPIs, but also will involve new product launches, new supply chains and a new operating model that enables organizations to monetize their services across value chains, leveraging IoT. Revenue in Year 2018” We all know that the smartphone industry has been growing exponentially where big global players are ready for a strong battle to lead India’s smartphone market. Especially the aggression of Chinese brands still bothers Indian vendors as it will be difficult for Indian vendors to compete directly with them on marketing budgets. Mr. Goutam Kumar Jain, Co-Founder, M-tech Informatics Ltd tells DT about their roadmap for 2018.

What have been the crucial milestones of your company during year 2017? We have sold around 3 million handsets in FY 2016-2017 and this consists of approx. 70% sales of feature phones and also sales projections for the current year is approx. 5-6 million handsets.

How do you the overall expected growth for smartphone market in India? What are the major fuelling factors? Decreasing prices of mobile phones is increasing smartphone consumption, which in turn is increase the growth of the India mobile phone accessories market. According to the report on global technology and telecom, the country’s smartphone market will grow at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23% through 2018 and would account for 30% of the global growth during the period. We expect India’s internet penetration to reach 50% by 2018, up from 26% last year, driven by rising smartphone availability and affordability, online content and changing user behavior.

What is the biggest challenge for mobile players in India? The lack of innovation and R&D capabilitiesmany Indian firms still buy from Chinese

vendors and merely re-badge and sell in India – has probably been an even bigger reason. It will be difficult for Indian vendors to compete directly with China based vendors on marketing budgets. The Indian brands are basically trading companies who do not have any R&D and are not capable of countering this surge of products from China. The nationalism wave is real but it is not visible in this industry as there is no alternative. If an Indian product is at par with a Chinese product, the consumer will prefer Indian over Chinese.

How do you support Government of India’s ‘Make-in-India’ program? Do you have any suggestion for government to make this more much more attractive? We surely support ‘Make – in –India’ program but it take 3-4 years but I am sure it is possible in India. We have started taking pro-active strategy due to encouraging government policies. Government should start giving more incentive to SME’s. Also, we believe the next big opportunity lies in PCBA Assembling and Housing [mobile phone plastic body] manufacturing and we as a company would be targeting it.

We are giving 120 days replacement service on feature phone. We are very much concerned about giving best service support to our customer in days to come. To gear up this commitment, company is planning to make 1000 service center by 2020 to cater the service support need across India.

Please share your current revenue and market growth rate. What is target for year 2018? Currently we have revenue of Rs. 340 cr. With excellent go-to-market strategy, we are targeting Rs. 500 cr. revenue in year 2018.

Paytm announced that its app has crossed the 100 million milestone on Google Play Store in the second week of December 2017. “In 2018 We Will Go All Out to Expand Our Portfolio” More than 66% of India’s 1.3 billion people still don’t have access to the internet. The hundreds of millions set to come online over the next decade will likely do so through mobile devices. Until recently, connecting via mobile had been expensive for most Indians but that is beginning to change thanks to a collapse in the price of data which will further fuel the growth. Sachin Batra, CMO, ZTE Corporation India talks with DT to address market growth and their plans to catch good growth in coming years.

DT: How do you see the overall smartphone market growth in India? Sachin Batra: India is now the second largest smartphone market after China thanks to a spirited recovery in shipments in the third quarter of 2017, as per research firm Canalys report. As shipments grew 23 per cent year on year in Q3 2017 to reach just over 40 million units, India overtook the United States and moved to second position behind China. The growth has largely been driven by low smartphone penetration and the eruption of LTE.

DT: What are the major challenges for ZTE in Year 2017? Sachin Batra: I don’t think there is as any challenge but we see it as an opportunity for ZTE being one of the oldest players in the Indian telecom market. ZTE is a technology brand and the company believes in giving a product at the right price to a customer. I would like to mention that India is a price sensitive market, so getting into the right price points where we can target tier 3 and tier 4 cities will hold the key for success in the current market scenario. As once you have a right product with right pricing you start to gain the market share automatically. We treat smartphones as an extension of a user’s taste, personality, and daily requirements. Therefore, with changing times, we will keep changing the features and looks constantly to stay relevant as a brand to our customers.

DT: What are the device launch plans for ZTE in India in 2018? 20

Sachin Batra: ZTE is a technology brand and the company believes in giving a product at the right price to a customer. In 2018 we will go all out to expand our portfolio. With current line-up of 7 devices and increase in marketing spends for 2018 you will see our presence pan-India in terms of launch of products, and widening into offline space. We plan to launch 3-4 devices every quarter in 2018. ZTE is going to categorize the products into three parts now. First part would be where the brand will have price-sensitive smartphones which would give them a good ground in the budget and mid-budget segment. The second category of smartphones will focus on battery while the third will be around dual cameras. The first device will be launched in January 2018.

DT: How do you support Government of India’s ‘Make-in-India’ program? Sachin Batra: It’s a great initiative by Government of India & we completely support the same. Now, the obsolete and obstructive frameworks of the past have been dismantled and replaced with a transparent and user-friendly system to build best-inclass manufacturing infrastructure. This program has really helped to create better employment opportunities for both skilled & unskilled workers. I think it’s a revolution for the smartphone industry of India. PM Modi has championed a manufacturing drive under the slogan “Make In India” to boost the sluggish economy and create millions of jobs. We have improved in the Ease Of Doing Business rankings globally and the government is constantly working on reducing

and improving the regulation and associated paperwork, procedures of land acquisition and environmental clearances which will further help in strengthen India as a manufacturing hub.

DT: What’s your distribution strategy currently in India? Sachin Batra: We have put in place a strategy that includes both Online & Offline to seek 2-3% market share in 2018. We are aggressively setting up the distribution model in India and have already started working with 100+ partners in limited Geography. We foresee to expand our channel to 350+ partners by mid of 2018. Simultaneously we are in discussion with online partners like Flipkart, Amazon for few exclusive launches. This year we will also focus to have ZTE’s exclusive stores in the key cities, which will be of its kind and customer walk in to experience all the category of products available in our portfolio.

DT: How do you assure your customer excellent service support? Sachin Batra: ZTE currently has more than 300 service centers across India. We intend to massively expedite the entire procedure and offer an unmatched experience to our customers by expanding our customer service support team. We plan to set up 500 + number of service center across India in order to bring down the waiting period during after sales from week to days as positive customer experience is our primary objective.

Raj Kumar Rishi Quits HP; Joins Xerox India as its New MD Xerox announced the appointment of Raj Kumar Rishi as Regional General Manager and Managing Director of Xerox India. In this role, Rishi will focus on driving growth and achieving the business objectives for Xerox India. “Rishi brings significant sales and leadership experience to Xerox along with a deep understanding of the Indian market,” said David Dyas, President, Developing Markets Organisation, Xerox Corporation. Rishi joins Xerox most recently from HP where he led HP India’s print business. He was also a senior leader in HP’s consumer, inkjet printing, printing consumables, enterprise/commercial and distribution businesses. Prior to working for HP, Rishi was Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Samsung’s Audio Visual business. Rishi succeeds Ashraf ElArman, who takes up the role of Regional General Manager, Central & Eastern Europe, Israel, Turkey and Greece (CITG) region. Rishi holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronics and Communications from The Delhi College of Engineering. He will be based in Gurgaon, New Delhi.
