MARKET REPORT

Dell Emerges As Leader in Indian Server Market with 25.3% Market Share The overall server market in India witnessed a year-over-year (YoY) decline of 17.2 percent in terms of revenue to reach $308.2 million in Q4 2018 versus $372.1 million in Q4 2017, according to the latest IDC Asia/Pacific excluding Japan (APEJ) Quarterly Server Tracker, Q4 2018. The x86 server market accounts for 86.7 percent of the overall server market in terms of revenue. The contribution in the x86 market mostly came from the professional services vertical followed by manufacturing, telcos, and Government. Investments in the infrastructure remain as the top priority for enterprise business applications, data management, content and collaboration, web infrastructure and application development and testing workloads. The Intel-based x86 platforms are robust and provide the price-performance balance for enterprises looking to deploy these applications for their end users. However, the large enterprises from the data-intensive industries such as banking and telcos still prefer to use the non-x86 platforms to run their core applications demanding higher availability and performance. The x86 server market in terms of revenue declined YoY by 17.2 percent to reach $267.1 million in Q4 2018 from $322.6 million in Q4 2017. Professional services, manufacturing, communications and media, and Government accounted for 84.8 percent of overall x86 server market revenue. Government saw the biggest Y/Y growth of 104.4 percent owing to the investments coming from various federal government departments and local state Government projects. The blade and rack servers which contributes for 78.6 percent revenue share has seen a surge in their ASPs due to the higher core, memory and processing configurations for newer workloads demanding higher IOPS. The non x86 server market also declined YoY by 17.1 percent to reach $41.1 million revenue, in Q4 2018. IBM tops the market with a revenue share of 74.3 percent, followed by HPE with share of 23.9 and Oracle with 1.8 percent during Q4 2018. Banking remains top vertical with 52.0 percent revenue share followed by manufacturing and professional

services with 18.9 percent, and 9.0 percent respectively, during Q4 2018. "In India, the "cloud-first" approach is gaining traction for new-age applications where investments on cloud infrastructure are focused towards building scalability, agility, simplified orchestration and minimizing cost," says Ranganath Sadasiva, Director, Enterprise Solutions, IDC India. In Q4 2018, Dell Inc and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) tied for the pole position in the India x86 server market with revenue share of 25.3 percent and 24.6 percent to reach $67.6 million and $65.7 million respectively. Dell Inc continued to show its good performance throughout 2018 as a result their business grew YoY by 44.2 percent at end Q4 2018. Cisco was able to register the revenue share of 8.1 percent followed by Lenovo who stood at 6.6 percent revenue share at the end of Q4 2018. ODM direct continued supporting the DC capacity expansion of tier-1 cloud providers in India and now accounts for 26.2 percent revenue share in Q4 2018. "The increase in server ASPs across major

verticals such as Professional services, telcos, and banks indicates that newer workloads are gaining traction allowing the scale-up approach, resulting in the higher configuration of servers," says Harshal Udatewar, Market Analyst, Server, IDC India. IDC India Forecast Spending from Central Government was an all-time high in Q4 2018 owing to the initiation of new projects related to various ministries under the central Government. First quarter of 2019 is expected to be big due to large projects in the Government sector across education and smart cities segments, while the general election in 2019 would slow down the overall growth of server market during 2019. We are expecting telecommunications spending to come from the initiatives such as IMS stack for VoLTE, VRAN, 5G testbed programs towards 5G development and network expansion. Some of the banks refresh are expected to keep banking vertical stable for 2019 whereas manufacturing spend would be focussed towards implementation of ERP, SCM and CRM applications.

80% of Today’s Project Management Tasks Will Be Eliminated by 2030 as AI Takes Over: Gartner By 2030, 80 percent of the work of today’s project management (PM) discipline will be eliminated as artificial intelligence (AI) takes on traditional PM functions such as data collection, tracking and reporting, according to Gartner, Inc. “AI is going to revolutionize how program and portfolio management (PPM) leaders leverage technology to support their business goals,” said Daniel Stang, research vice president at Gartner. “Right now, the tools available to them do not meet the requirements of digital business.” Evolution of PPM Market Providers in today’s PPM software market are behind in enabling a fully digital program management office (PMO), but Gartner predicts AI-enabled PPM will begin to surface in the market sometime this year. The market will focus first on providing incremental user experience benefits to individual PM professionals, and later will help them to

become better planners and managers. In fact, by 2023, technology providers focused on AI, virtual reality (VR) and digital platforms will disrupt the PPM market and cause a clear response by traditional providers. PPM as an AI-Enabled Discipline Data collection, analysis and reporting are a large proportion of the PPM discipline. AI will improve the outcomes of these tasks, including the ability to analyse data faster than humans and using those results to improve overall performance. As these standard tasks start to get replaced, PPM leaders will look to staff their teams with those who can manage the demands of AI and smart machines as new stakeholders. “Using conversational AI and chatbots, PPM

and PMO leaders can begin to use their voices to query a PPM software system and issue commands, rather than using their keyboard and mouse,” said Mr. Stang. “As AI begins to take root in the PPM software market, those PMOs that choose to embrace the technology will see a reduction in the occurrence of unforeseen project issues and risks associated with human error.”

93% of Indian Businesses Yet Struggle with Adequate Data Protection: Dell EMC Dell EMC announced the results of the third Global Data Protection Index revealing an increasing growth rate of data of 130% in Indian organizations (vis-à-vis Globally: 569%) and an impressive jump in data protection “adopters” of nearly 50 percentage points (48%) since 2016. The research, which surveyed 2,200 IT decision makers from both public and private organizations with 250+ employees across 18 countries and 11 industries, provides a comprehensive understanding of the state of data protection and the maturity of data protection strategies. Specifically, the Index uncovered an increase in the average amount of data managed – from 2.79 petabytes (PB) in 2016 to 6.43PB in 2018 in India (vis-à-vis globally: 1.45 petabytes (PB) in 2016 to 9.70PB in 2018) – and a high awareness of the value of data. In fact, 93% of Indian respondents see the potential value of data (Globally 92%). While this acknowledgement is positive, most respondents are struggling to properly protect their data. The combination of these factors is driving many of the survey’s findings.

Disruption Incidents Are Costly The sheer volume of data and its importance

to business operations make data protection much more challenging. Disruption incidents are occurring frequently, but more alarming is the increasing amount of irreversible data loss. More than three-quarters (76%) of respondents in India and globally experienced some type of disruption within a 12-month period. Moreover, around 30% of Indian businesses said (27% globally) that they were unable to recover data using their existing data protection solution. Around 85% of India respondents are using at least two data protection vendors, in comparison to 75% worldwide. The most common type of disruption faced by organizations in India using two or more vendors were: • Unplanned systems downtime (51%) • Data loss (36%) • Local disaster that affected access to data for an entire site/group (34%)

Although unplanned systems downtime is more prevalent, data loss is far more expensive. For example, in India, those who encountered downtime experienced 29 hours of downtime on average in the last 12 months, costing $958, 583 (vis-à-vis 20 hours of downtime for global leaders, costing about $526,845). Indian respondents said that they lost more data than global & APJ counterparts, averaging 3.31 terabytes lost with a price tag of $1,287,788 (vis-a-via 2.13 terabytes costing $995,613 globally). It’s clear that organizations now recognize both at India (95%) and global level (81%) to take data protection more seriously for categories of data that have the greatest monetary value. Challenges Surrounding Data Protection Although, most of the Indian businesses are struggling to implement a solution that adequately fits their needs, data protection “adopters” sprang forward by nearly 50 percentage points from 2016 to 2018. Moreover, data protection “leaders” in India increased by 29 percentage points between 2016 to 2018, nearly 20 percentage points more than global counterparts.

There's a big difference between customer centricity and good customer service. For example, customer service is to help a distressed client with your product or service, but customer centricity is more than providing good service, loyalty rewards, and special promotional offers. It is to identify the most valued customer, get a clear understanding of their requirements and delight them based on their behavior. Also, our services should fit-in as a solution to the customer’s existing ecosystem. We need to bring their views to the service COE (Center of Excellence), create value for them, generate revenue from them, and find more customers like them. Nowadays, the business process is changing dramatically, and one will find a vast difference between the modern and traditional way of doing business. End customers are more attracted towards the customer centric companies, where they get personalized services, offerings, and where their relationship is recognized and rewarded. Customers are willing to build long-term relationships with their providers, but the experience that they gain, decides the longterm relationship. For example, the limited taxi access and fare control has sidelined the traditional taxi business and not the taxi services like Uber. There are a few common problems with traditional business models, which include limited hours of customer service, non-personalized offerings, cost and human dependencies, and untraceable services. Today's customers are very different in their

outlook, they are more resilient, adaptable and tech savvy than their older counterparts. They are dealing with smartphones, IoT devices, and social media. They are very u p f r o n t and do not hesitate to give their feedback and reviews on social media platforms. This high volumetric customer data that comes from enterprise applications, CRM and other social media platforms, can play a crucial role in understanding and unfolding the behavioral insight, sentiment analysis and paying attention to the voice of the customer. Organizations that take customer experience seriously will stand out and win loyal customers. Nowadays, most of the quality management system (QMS) redefine quality by emphasizing on customers' expectations and satisfaction. They are currently switching from product or service-centered approach to a customer centric approach. Because, completely satisfied customers will speak good things and be a ready reference for the other customers. It also helps in business continuance, reducing churn and increasing revenue. Big data and statistical techniques can facilitate enterprises that offers comprehensive powerful and actionable insights into 360°

customer view, customer classification, and sentiment analysis. Analytical and statistical modeling allows an organization to forecast all portfolios and probable losses. Below are some of the key drivers: • Identify relevant cross and up-sell opportunities • Targeted marketing campaigns to acquire new profitable customers • Enable the organization to understand risk dimensions faster without expanding the pool of human resources

With limited understanding of technology stack and a lack of data-centric culture being the barriers, companies should rethink and adopt the customer centric service and understand the power of data. They need to incorporate cutting-edge technologies to get interesting data and figure out ways to use customer data in the customer acquisition journey.
