What would you say is the biggest trend right now with wedding florals?

I would say the biggest trend right now with wedding flowers is modern and fun styles with pops of colour. Also, lots of floral installations with different looks for the aisle backdrop.

What are the most common flowers that couples ask for as part of their centerpieces and bouquets?

The most common flowers are always roses. They always seem to be a favourite as they come in every colour, smell wonderful and there are lots of ways to style them.

Are there any flowers that you often get requests for that are not in season during peak wedding season?

With the pandemic, there is actually a shortage of flowers. As a lot of the flowers are imported from the South, there has been a lot of disruption in the industry of getting the flowers into Canada. So, it’s not really that I can’t get a peony per say, it’s more of how much are you willing to pay for something? And waiting to see if the shipment is in for that week. That’s why I always educated my couples to tell them that sometimes flowers will have to be swapped for something similar in season. Having multiple suppliers is key.

The most common type of bouquet I do is more of a contemporarygarden-wild look. The characteristics would be lots of different types of florals in a bouquet with wild looking greenery; some more than others depending on the brides’ preference. The florals also vary in height, so they don’t look compact. It’s the more whimsical but still classy looking. This is my personal style and most of my clients come to me for this look.

The other bouquet that I also prefer to create is a more contemporary look. This look is more modernized but still very classy. I try to use unique flowers you don’t see as often in Bridal Bouquets such as Anthurium and mix them with more high-end wedding flowers such as Peonies and Ranunculus

Do you have any tips or advice for our readers about wedding florals?

My tips would be to just have fun! Make sure you have a decent budget for florals if you want them to have an impactful look at your wedding!

I am from Burlington Ontario and have been working in the industry for about 10 years now. I am a naturally creative person who is passionate about nature, design, and people. This is what brings me to loving floral design and wedding setups. I’m always venturing around Ontario for new weddings, and I couldn’t love it more. I currently live and operate my business out of Hamilton, where I plan on expanding.
