Ramadhan is here! In the name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Compassionate. Editorial Ramadhan is a month of mercy and many blessings for all of us. Allah, The Most High, has given us an opportunity to have our sins forgiven and become better Muslims. Glory be to Allah for giving us the permission to witness and reap the benefits of this blessed month as we do not know whether we will live to see the next one. In this Ramadhan edition, the Reflection section is inspired by the theme of exploring the lives of The Four Great Women in Islam. We have come to an end in this fascinating historical journey with the life of Fatimah al-Zahra (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the beloved daughter of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). We have also included a Food Bites section offering delicious Suhoor and Iftar recipes to make during Ramadhan.

Reflection ‘The Mother of her Father’ Fatimah al Zahra (may Allah be pleased with her), was the beloved daughter of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and Khadija bint Khuwaylid (may Allah be pleased with her). Fatimah is described as having complete Emaan, and she is regarded by Muslims as one of the Four Perfect Women in Islam. Fatimah was known for her beautiful and radiant face. She was described as appearing ‘as bright as

“Fatimah provided unconditional love and support towards her father.” the full moon’. The Prophet (peace be upon him) saw signs of blessings and prosperity in her. Fatimah adopted her father’s character; she was compassionate, caring and always helped the poor and needy. It was reported that A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said, “I have never seen anyone who resembles the Prophet (peace be upon him) from Allah’s creation more in speech, in character and conversation then Fatimah”. Fatimah was very much loved and honoured by the

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) stated, “anytime Fatimah entered a room where the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon) was, he would get up, he would greet her, he would kiss her and hold her hand, and he would take her and sit her down in the same place he was sitting”. Fatimah perfected her faith; she supported and aided the Prophet (peace be upon him) when no one was with him. The Prophet (Peace be upon him) having lost his wife Khadijah, who was his closest confidant; left a void in his life, which Fatimah filled with unconditional love and support. In return to her caring nature, he respected and admired her. A bond we all should desire to have with our fathers. Fatimah lived a very simple life, and this continued throughout her marriage to Ali Ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him). In their marriage, they faced economic hardship and suffered from poverty. One day, they went to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and requested servants from him. The Prophet

(peace be upon him) declined this offer and instead, he taught them this Du’a to be recited after every Salah, and before going to sleep.

Subhana’Allah (33x) Al-Hamdulillah (33x) Allahu Akbar (34x) We can learn from Fatimah’s life that all the hardships we undergo in this world are tests from Allah, The Exalted. To successfully pass these tests we must be patient, have faith, make supplication and Dhikr (Remembrance of Allah). We cannot run away from life’s real situations, but deal with it at the best of our ability. It is with Allah’s will, those faced with calamities will find ease in their journey and it could be the key to increasing our faith in Allah with a great reward in the HereAfter. By Mariam Najjuma

“Allah puts no burden on any person beyond what He has given him. Allah will grant after hardship, ease.” (Surah Al-Talaaq, 65:7)

Food Bites When our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) broke his fast, he would eat three dates and a glass of water. Anas Ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to break his fast with fresh dates before he prayed. If he did not find fresh dates then he would use dried dates. If he did not find that he drank a few sips of water. (Ahmad and Abu Dawood)

Magic Dates Dates offer a variety of health benefits; they are rich in vitamins, minerals and fibre as well as, providing the best ingredients to improve muscle development. They contain oil, calcium, iron, potassium and copper, which are all good for the body. They taste delicious too and so delicious that we have designed a Suhoor Drink that is high in protein in order to keep your energy levels up throughout the day.
