BEAUJOLAIS NOUVEAU 2021 EDITION

A Celebration of a very Young fruity French Wine

By Michel Lanfrey

“Beaujolais nouveau is a true artisan wine experience, a Gamay that has a red dress and fruit flavor. Its main qualities reside in the exuberance of its youth and its fragrance and delicacy, which are obtained by picking the grapes at a specific time of maturity. Only experienced winemakers can choose this key moment”

Following our yearly French tradition of celebrating this young wine web called “Primeur”, the fourth week of November this year at the residence of The French Ambassador again on 25 November, a colorful event attended with a sum of over 510 guests prevailed.

This year Chef Allankalee and his staff have specially come from Zanzibar Melia Hotel to prepare and present the special cold cuts, fromages, saucissons,pâtés, and as well prepared locally some special gastronomy dishes with the help of assistants chefs from Samantar.

For this event, many delicacies were presented in an elegant way. Just to give an idea beside the traditional bread baguettes and rolls from Epi d’Or, Cold Cuts & Cheese selection with dry fruits and nuts; as well a freshly prepared avocado, tomato, orange salad, and mustard dressing, green salad, baby spinach with apple, bruschettas, pineapple and tomato chutney, aubergine caviar, beef salad …

This year we don’t know how many bottles were produced and sold and transported from France toward the whole world, due to the enormous disruption of the COVID19 pandemic and transports were not made easy, but we succeeded and some 600 tickets were sold and over 510 people turned up to this fantastic yearly event.

As usual this event is characterized for its very informal nature featuring traditional food directly from France with lots of varieties of French wines including Barton & Guestier wines were selected with and served after 10 am as brought to Tanzania by Red & White.

“The Beaujolais Nouveau event is definitely meant for enjoyment free of formalism but we don’t only meet for pleasure & leisure. All money remaining from the purchases and logistics of the Beaujolais event will be given as usual into charity as per past years.”

The committee has become so acquainted with preparing this event and all the cumbersome administrative endeavors that this time it has really delivered beyond expectations! Of course, with the help of the French Embassy and Alliance Francaise.

The Committee is very proud of the outcome. Thanks to our long-time sponsors, Bollore Transport and Logistic, ORYX Energies, Maurel & Prom, Barton and Guestier Red & White, CFAO Motors, The FrenchTanzanian Chamber of Commerce, Epi d’Or and obviously the French Embassy & Alliance Francaise of Dar es Salaam.
