oung visionary, Devin “Trek” Thomas has been dedicated to changing the lives of individuals young and old from an early age. From banging on washers and dryers as a toddler, constructing raps at age 5 and performing in talent shows in elementary school, Devin has prospered by entertaining crowds from his immediate family to venues across the nation. Making use of his knack for music, spoken word and percussion, Devin has touched the lives of a variety of individuals who have watched him set stages ablaze. Taking inspiration from artists and music across generations, Devin’s current influences range from lyricists such as Lupe Fiasco, Kendrick Lamar and Common, allowing him to relate to hip hop enthusiast across the board. Although Columbus grown and Ohio made, Devin has pursued his passion for music and motivating others from New York to California. It is also without saying that he gives highest honor to his upbringing in the Church, which played an intensive role in his development as an artist, performer and his natural drive for community outreach. His diverse crowds have enabled him to touch the lives of many by encouraging, uplifting and entertaining through his various talents. Devin’s genuine authenticity and passion for encouragement has been a major influence in his years of continued growth and success in the arts. As a community and youth advocate, he remains a top trailblazer as he uses his God given talents to rebuild communities across his hometown. Throughout his collegiate career and post graduation from Capital University, Devin proclaimed his mission to restructure our youth by serving with organizations such as Youth to Youth International/Compdrug Inc., KIPP Journey Academy, Georgian Heights Alternative Elementary School and Undfyned Entertainment. Additionally, he holds association with R.E.A.C.H Community Speakers Bureau and Columbus Young Professionals. His roles within the mentioned organizations have ranged from Prevention Specialist to Entrepreneur and Musician and have favored the newest generation of youth by instilling passion for education, positivity and development. His rare method of engaging audiences has given him an upper hand in impacting urban institutions and has led him to influence the lives of those that cross his path. “Growing old is mandatory, Growing up is optional”. This quote reigned as continued inspiration for the flourishing entertainer and speaker as he completed college. Once realizing his next steps into adulthood, he was determined to take on his destiny. After taking hold of his life and creating a steady path, he decided it was time to again awaken our communities with his gift of speaking and musical appeal. Devin’s up and coming project, LEGACY, aims to motivate individuals to dwell in the positive light of their lives. Inspired by the birth of his son, Devin made the firm decision to conquer his fears of fatherhood, thoughts of failure and defeated feelings toward increased responsibility by focusing on the components that made him an invaluable candidate for fatherhood, success and beyond. He wishes to impose his prosperity on people of all ages to encourage healthy and fulfilling lives. A “Lifetime of Experiences, Guidance, Attitudes, & Character for Years to come,” (LEGACY) strives to be of support by infusing Devin’s unique method of motivational speaking through spoken word, music and percussion, with tips for manipulating negative attitudes about life occurrences and helping individuals find the light in the midst of the darkness. Using his musical talents, he shows the audience how you can leave your LEGACY through discussion, activities, and much more. This presentation will show how you can use your Positive Experiences, Positive Attitudes, and Positive Character as a stepping stone towards your dreams, goals, and aspirations.
I'm So C.O.O.L.! Audience: 7th -12th Grade/College Keynote: 45-60 minutes (Personal Growth/Leadership/Self-Confidence/Building Diversity) As the world constantly attempts to define who we are, we tend to forget that we create our own definitions of who we are. I’m “So C.O.O.L.” is a captivating battle cry to get back to our true self. Trek encourages his audience to create their definition of who they are by learning their Character, keeping an Optimistic outlook with their lives, staying Observant of others for who they are, and Living out who they truly are. Through the examples of his own life experiences, Trek shows the audience they are C.O.O.L. in their own way.
The One Day I Arrived Audience: 7th -12th Grade/College Keynote: 45-60 minutes (Personal Growth/Empowerment/Healthy Living) “A life without a heart, a life without a soul, is nothing more than a dream seeing potential soar…” These are the words Trek speaks lyrically to his audience. The One Day I Arrived takes the audience on a musical ride as Trek performs numerous pieces chronicling life as he knew it growing up. He performs pieces that go in depth on peer pressure, fear of rejection, confidence in self, and living a healthy lifestyle.
