Why choose north cyprus? When to travel North Cyprus is blessed with the most pleasing climate in the Mediterranean; the winters are mild and rarely extend beyond February. With over 300 days of sunshine a year, the temperature can reach into the 70s as early as March. In April, May and June, North Cyprus is at its most beautiful, with fields of wild flowers in full bloom and the weather not unlike that of a good English summer. July and August are the hottest months and ideal for sun worshippers, whilst September to November are the most popular months being comfortably warm.

Restaurants and fantastic cuisine there is a wealth of restaurants to choose from in north cyprus, offering everything from simple local fare to gourmet French cuisine. eating out is not expensive. For traditionalists, the cuisine of north cyprus owes its heritage to a mixture of Mediterranean and oriental influences; local dishes are delicious and prepared from fresh ingredients. Meze are a particular treat – a cypriot speciality consisting of a large number of hot and cold hors d’oeuvres. other typical dishes of the region include yalanci dolma (vine leaves stuffed with rice, onions and tomatoes); shish kebab, kleftiko, mousakka and lahmacun (thin turkish pizza). Fish is also particularly good, and is usually served grilled or as a kebab. typical desserts are lokum (turkish delight); halva (slices of ground sesame seeds and sugar) and baklava (made from mille-feuille pastry, nuts, honey and syrup) - finally, no meal is complete without a traditional turkish coffee!

Food, toiletries and general day to day items can be purchased from the larger supermarkets, which can be found in and around the main towns of Kyrenia and Famagusta. the signs ‘Lemar’ and ‘tempo’ indicate two of cyprus’s biggest supermarket chains.
Make your money go further the currency of north cyprus is the new turkish Lira (try) – the exchange rate at the time of going to press was about 3.85 try to the pound. please check rates with your uK bank prior to departure. you can purchase try before departing from the uK, but changing sterling at banks and bureaux de change in north cyprus usually produces a slightly better rate. If you wish, you may inform your supplier that you would like to pay in pounds when you ask for your bill. change will almost always be given in try. credit cards are generally accepted in north cyprus.
