Woodstock Opener, Finally! Woodstock, Illinois - June 9 Woodstock MX

F

inally, we got our first gate drop of the 2017 Woodstock MX season at the McHenry County Fairgrounds. Racers weren’t the only ones waiting for the opener, as a good crowd of locals came out to spectate on the long row of bleachers that sit next to the track’s largest jumps. The all new track that is. Seems this team can’t leave things alone and started over leaving nothing but the gate in the area it was last season. It was a fun filled night full of great racing - and this is just the beginning as the Woodstock season bounces from here to the also all new and expanded Lake County Fairgrounds. It will be a quick season, so jump in while you can. Thirteen riders left the gate for the final in the 50Sr class and right away William Tucker put his KTM into the lead. Jaxson Schiller settled for third in the heat

Antioch, IL’s Tyler Vacala led early in the 250B main.

race, but was quick to slip into second out of the first turn ahead of Nolan Simonton. As these three established their positions, Hunter Morse spent the entire race fighting off Jayce Wolf in fourth. The order held to the end.

50Jr saw a repeat from the heat race where Rockford, IL’s Meadow Thomas pulled the holeshot and never looked back, getting the win. Mallie Arnold held second the entire race, even after some mid moto problems that let Lincoln Paxton and Nate Coleman close in. It was odd seeing the 85Jr class come off the gate, as most of these kids were on 65’s last year and it seems like on 50’s just the year before. Not really the case, but it pointed to how fast these kids are growing up. Batavia, IL’s Talan Zollers ran off with the heat race win but this time he had a bigger challenge getting out of the first turn in fourth. Quickly into third he got around Riley Busse for second in the second lap. Out front was the quick Deegan Cooley though... and making the most of his holeshot. Zollers closed the gap in the last lap but Deegan rode smart and grabbed the win. Busse held onto third as Evan Griffiths and Benjamin Blazek filled the top five. Woodstock KTM/ MX Culture backed Cooley after his win, “This went way better than the heat race where I got a bad start. I got some good lines this moto and it went real well. The 85 is way faster and I can hit the jumps really well. I’m short so corners can be a little harder but I like the bike a lot.”

Elijah Tetzlaff had a big night that began in the 85Sr class where he rode out front all the way to the checkered flag. Ryder Beth stuck close early as Radko Tomko ran in third. As the laps wound down the order held with Jacob Coleman getting pushed hard by Zachary Brunner. On the last lap Brunner found an opening to take over fourth. The 250B class delivered one of the most action filled motos all night! Tyler Vacala got the holeshot with everyone all over his rear fender right away. It was crowded to the point that when Kyle Schneider “slammed” his way past Vacala in a tight corner it opened a door that Chad West and Logan Rusk both fit through. Soon after Vacala was dropped back further by Blake Bauer and Ian Malinowski. This all before the second lap was half over. Still in the same lap, West riding really hard went off the track dropping behind Rusk. The next two laps saw Schneider just ahead of a freight train. Rusk had to be careful as West was looking to take second back. As the white flag came out West made his move and the order was set, Schneider taking the win on his Honda ahead of West. Schneider after the exciting win, “I was second off the start finally. Went to first and then just tried to stay easy on the gas as it was slick out there. I just wanted to ride it out and hang on. I like the new layout of the track even if it was slippery. I’m going to try to race all these, the Mendotas and mix in some outdoors as possible to make it a fun season.” Woodstock KTM’s Connor Burger made his 125cc KTM work for him in the 250C-1 final, taking a runaway win. Burger, “I like the 125 a lot as it fits better and has more motor than my mini. It is just so smooth on the bigger bike that it feels really good out there. I’m light so I don’t feel like the riders on the 250’s have any advantage out here at all.” Can you imagine winning your first race. Doesn’t that sort of spoil the anticipation... the build up, the paying your dues with all the crashes, bad finishes and dumb stuff building up to that big win? Josh Serginia will never know as he came out tonight and suffered his only loss ever in the heat race where he finished third. In the final there was a mess in the first corner but Serginia avoided it. He rode out front with plenty of pushing from Brandon Jackson and Jeremy Merryman,

Eagle, WI’s Lance Gilbert in the +25B/C class.

Casey Palka raced to seventh in 85Sr.

but he got the win. In his first race ever. Serginia, “I rode 65’s for a bit when I was younger then got away from it for a while. I’m sixteen now and started riding a year ago after three or four years off. This is my first race and I am so pumped to win it. I’m local so made this the first one.” Welcome to racing Josh!

As we mentioned earlier, Elijah Tetzlaff had a big night. After the win in 85Sr, he grabbed two more overalls, topping 85 Open and 125Jr. The Southeast Sales/ Fly/ Team Green/ X Frame Goggles/ Williams Motor Works backed Tetzlaff, “Yea, I had a good night. It all began with pulling good starts and then CYCLE USA, July 2017

running out front off the gate. I’m pretty determined to get my starts and work to sort of psych myself up a bit before each gate drop. I have people ask why do you get all loud and wound up before the races... it is all about getting ready for me. Road America, a must Attend

An example of the always present close racing action this weekend brings.

Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin - June 4 By Gordon Lunde

M

otoAmerica returned to Road America for round four of the AMA/FIM pro road race series with the Dunlop Championship weekend. Intermittent rain showers kept the crowd a bit thin Saturday morning. Once the clouds subsided the facility filled with excited fans ready for some serious racing action. As usual, the scent of freshly grilled brats and burgers filled the air from the many excellent refreshment stands on site. Talk to the racers and long time race followers and they’ll tell you the food at Road America is the best in the land. I must agree as I sampled many tasty delights over the weekend! Before the weekend’s activities began, a tribute to recently deceased MotoGP champion Nicky Hayden was held at winners circle. Nicky was killed in a bicycle vs car accident in Italy while he was training on a road bicycle. Hayden was a very popular American racer who won the 2006 MotoGP World Championship. Nicky’s younger brother, Super-

bike racer Roger Hayden, rode a lap of remembrance for him carrying a flag with Nicky’s #69. A moment of silence was held for 69 seconds….. you could have heard a pin drop. For a race track setting, it was eery. R.I.P Nicky! As usual, the Wisconsin weather played games with the competitors. The on and off rain showers had some racers practicing and qualifying on a wet track, while others gained the advantage of a dry surface. Tire selection and tuning be-

come a nightmare. Fortunately the KTM Cup riders were the only class that had to contend with a full wet track Saturday, but they handled it well. Benjamin Smith was the winner on the wet track after a race long battle with his teammate Jackson Blackmon. Blackmon had jumped the start, was penalized and credited with 9th place. Smith ended up being the top points winner in the KTM class with a second place finish on Sunday in dry conditions. Blackmon won the Sunday race. All riders in the KTM Cup ride KTM 390cc motorcycles. By the time the Supersport/ Superstock class gained the track, conditions went from full wet to quickly drying. The sun popped out and made the track a guessing game of what tires to run. Officials declared the race a “wet” race and most racers went out on full rain tires. A three rider crash in turn 5 on the first lap brought out a red flag and stopped the race. That delay allowed the track to dry more and riders on full rain tires were caught out with a sketchy tire choice. Full rain tires on a drying track will deteriorate rapidly. However, other riders chose full slicks and found the track too wet for that tire choice. Once under way again, the battle at the front was full on between Supersport class riders Garrett Gerloff and J.D. Beach. The pair simply ran away from the rest of the pack and Garrett pulled off the win, his third victory on the season. ROAD, Continued on page 14

#69 Sammy Halbert led a couple laps during the closing laps of the Springfield Mile. #1 Bryan Smith on an Indian eventually scored a draft pass win with #9 Jared Mees finishing a close second, Halbert on his Yamaha FZ-07 would end up third.

Smith wins Springfield Mile Springfield, Illinois - May 29 By Tim McBride

T

he factory Indian Motorcycle team effort is still dominating the national flat track scene as Michigan native Brian Smith notched his fourth consecutive win during round six of the American Flat Track series / HarleyDavidson Springfield Mile I. The three Indian Motorcycle teammates including defending champion Smith, Brad Baker and Rogers Racing sponsored Jared Mees continue to set the high bar as far as completion goes aboard their powerful purpose-built machines. The threesome has been filling the top three podiums in almost every event thus far. However a surprise performance came in the form of the Yamaha entry of Sammy Halbert. For much of the twenty-five lap main event the three Indians looked to fill the podium as Smith, Mees and Baker covered the top three positions until the red flag came out on lap twenty for an incident involving Brandon Robinson aboard the factory Harley-Davidson. After the restart the threesome looked to break

away but when Halbert and his new to flat track Yamaha FZ-07 moved into the lead during the last few laps the capacity crowd came to their feet with a roar. Unfortunately for Halbert, Smith and Mees drafted past him at the wire to finish one and two as Halbert held on to third ahead of Baker and a strong effort from Davis Fisher aboard the Kawasaki. “In the shootout, Sammy got up there

and made it interesting for me and Jared,” said Smith. “Heck, I didn’t know who won until I came around and they handed me the checkered flag!” Second place finisher Mees said, “I just came up a little short – that’s how it is on these miles. I wanted to lead it off turn four really bad because I felt I was really strong there, but obviously I was just a millisecond off.”

Podium at the AFT Springfield TT Hayden Gillim (center) took the win, Jesse Janisch (left) was second as Kolby Carlile finished third. CYCLE USA, July 2017

Halbert’s third place result was his second podium finish of the year. “Estenson Racing put together a great bike for me, the Yamaha was running great, especially at the end. I was struggling a lot at the beginning and lost the lead draft, but as the track got faster, my set-up came in.” On the previous Saturday the AFT Singles National TT was held at Springfield multi-purpose stadium. The Cycle World Suzuki sponsored Hayden Gillim won the 15 lap National. Gillim is the late Nicky Hayden’s cousin from KY. He was on a mission as he dominated the field in convincing fashion. Finishing second was Wisconsin’s Jesse Janisch sponsored by West Bend H-D, and rounding out the podium was Kolby Carlile from NY aboard a Honda. Carlile’s podium finish moved him into the championship point lead 88 to 87 ahead of two-time national winner Shayna Texter who was unable to make the main event. The all-day event also played host to the Steve Nace Racing Promotions District 17 amateur race that was held during the day prior to the AFT National.

ROAD, Continued from page 11 Normal front runner Valentin Debise on the Suzuki was one rider that chose slicks and finished 14th due to his tire choice. When families come along to the track, some members may not be totally enthralled with the racing. I can’t imagine that but it is true… At Road America there are other activities to fill time for those bored by the sight and sound of high rpm, screaming race bikes. The Zip Line was active most of the weekend with fans getting the eagle eye view of the track while zipping down a very long ride above the crowds. Others used the newly built Frisbee golf course that spreads throughout the beautiful grounds. A stunt show also kept some busy watching riders perform wheelies, stoppies and smoky burnouts until tires blew from the abuse. The Genuine Broaster Chicken Honda team with rider Jake Gagne had a trailer set up in the paddock where fans could sample freshly broasted chicken during the Fan

Walk. Always a big attraction, the walk allows spectators up close to the racers and their machines. The racers have many items to offer the fans like stickers and posters that they will personalize and autograph. The lines are always long at the top racer pit areas. In the Motul Superbike/Bazzaz Superstock event, the track was fully dry and a great race developed up front between Superbike class riders Cameron Beaubier on the Yamaha Factory racing YZF-R1, Tony Elias and Roger Hayden on their

Yoshimura Suzuki Factory racing machines. Unfortunately Beaubier’s teammate Josh Hayes didn’t make the start after crashing spectacularly on the warm up lap. Hayes’ machine burst into flames upon impact with a trackside barrier. The leading trio broke away with Hayden leading the first seven laps of the race. Beaubier took over for a few laps until Elias claimed the lead from lap ten through the last corner on the last lap. Beaubier stuffed his machine up the inside of Elias in turn fourteen and led the final few hundred yards to the finish line just .005 ahead of Elias and .153 seconds ahead of Hayden. This was the closest finish of the series so far this season. Sunday presented even more great racing all through the day. So, another Superbike weekend is completed at Road America. The MotoAmerica circus headed to Utah for the next round. If you haven’t been… get to Road America next year for this fabulous weekend of high performance motorcycle racing and fan action. Austin Pogreba scores the win

Austin Pogreba got his first AA and Overall wins!

Millville, Minnesota - June 11 By Paul Otto

M

eadow Valley Motocross Park and the Straight Arrow Enduro Riders joined forces to put forth a new Hare Scramble race for the District 23 Series. Located in Millville, MN, Meadow Valley is mostly known for it’s Motocross practice facility. Over the past few years a trail system was created to draw more recreational riders and with the collaboration with the SAER, a race course was made possible. Starting the day off with clear skies and 70 degrees the Premier, Girls and Peewees enjoyed the perfect conditions mother nature brought upon us. Ryder Gerulli has really stepped his game up by once again winning the Premier class. Getting the holeshot with Alex Burdick and Sydney Van Moer in tow made the job much easier as Gerulli never looked back. Defending champ Travis Illies snuck up behind Gerulli on 16

CYCLE USA, July 2017

the first lap trailing by five seconds. Blake Auckland had a rough first lap. Sitting in third Auckland fell back to fifth, then he dropped nearly four minutes off his first lap on the final two laps pushing him back up to third. The #41 of Bryce Rauner showed some real dominance in the PeeWee class. Grabbing the holeshot and putting down unmatched lap times Rauner even got an extra lap. Jaegar Larson had a good ride going, bettering his lap times each and every lap. Only problem was Cooper Anderson was doing the exact same thing and chased down Larson on the last lap to overtake fourth. While Bryce Rauner ran away with the win Thomas Hanson and Zachary Brown finished 2-3. Remember when I said it was clear skies and 70? Well how things can change in a hurry. The clouds rolled in with severe thunderstorms catching the Micro/ Macro’s after their parade lap to have the race halted with just enough time to get to shelter before the torrential

down pour came. Once the rain subsided and the damage was accessed it was decided that the race would be delayed till after the C race so they could revamp a new course the 50cc bikes could handle. The Micro/Macro riders once again lined up hoping this time to launch off the line without any more delays. Due to the shortened course scoring became a hectic place to be with twenty-seven riders and thirty-one laps by the leader. Macro rider Ethan Anderson led the way, putting down some consistent laps. Lucas Stageberg stayed right with Anderson for most of the race. Bringing home the bronze was Moose Racing’s Austin Holasek. The hard charger award on the day has to go to Liam Brown. After lap one Brown was scored in eleventh. Brown road a spectacular race and pulled within thirteen second of third place rider Holasek. With the Micro riders leaving just one minute behind they dealt with the same issues and dilemmas as the Macro riders. Carter Niedzielski must have been paying attention to the earlier races. Getting the holeshot and not looking back was the name of the game today and Carter did just that. Pushing the pace he pulled three more laps than the rest of the pack.

Macro rider Lucas Stageberg

Riders meeting for the youth classes before the rain came down.

The beginning of the C class was entertaining as riders negotiated the slimy clay based soil, being the first riders out after the storms had passed. Some riders managed to tackle the mud with ease while others struggled to keep their front tire in front of the rear. 200C saw the return of Isaac Newport whom has been absent with an injury. Out front after getting the holeshot was the #225 of Miranda Tweeton. Unable to hold off the hard charging Newport, Tweeton surrendered the number one spot, but continued to hold off any charge by third place rider Jaden Rolbiecki. Great ride by Newport as not only did he win 200C, he also won Overall C. Mathew Martin grabbed the holeshot in the 250C class from the outside, then quickly swallowed up by the pack. Brandon Rod showed some skill riding a wheelie down the start while Ben Colvin followed. Eventually putting the front wheel down Rod claimed the lead on lap one with Colvin in tow. Andy Hinzmann rode his Honda in third on lap one then slipped back to fifth. Colvin eventually got by Rod, finishing first. With the C race over and most of the mud either pushed to the side or stuck to the bikes it was time for the AA/A/B riders to endure the two plus hours. The AA start had Tyler Pogreba, Logan Kittock and Craig Holasek side by side. Several riders took the short cut on the easy/hard and made up a lot of time on those who chose to not take the risk. After the first lap it was reigning champ Kyle Nelson in the lead with Kittock and Nick Swenson following. Nelson led for

the pack off the start. The Suzuki rider must have been giving the rest of the field a head start as by the end of lap one Peterson was already in second Overall B. The only rider he was unable to get around was Brady Kittock from the 200B class. Kittock would have issues on the last lap and drop all the way back to seventh overall leaving Peterson with the Overall B and 250B wins. As with many riders today Mike Kolden had to ditch his goggles. Not sure if the weather caught everyone off guard or they just didn’t have tear offs. None the less vision didn’t seem to be an issue for the goggle less Kolden as he lead the Super Senior B class wire to wire. Gary Goeden kept him honest with Craig Hinzmann in third. Special thanks to the SAER and Meadow Valley for collaborating efforts and putting on a great event in spite of all the rain. Sounds like they will be back

several laps before Austin Pogreba railed past everyone and claimed the lead by lap three. Lap three would also claim a few riders as Kittock had bike issues and Swenson went down. This left Austin Pogreba pulling away, Nelson maintaining second and Chaz Herzog coming from seventh to take over third. This was Austin’s first win in the AA class and his first Overall win. Congrats to him. Open A had John Weir jump out front on the start. Honda mounted Drey Lacroix moved past and led for three laps GEAR UP & RIDE | BOBSCYCLE.COM before Weir took back the spot. Paul Reschke rode a lonely race in third. 250A and 200A started together and Colton Reschke out of 250A took the start, but Devon Jirik had other plans. Motocross Weekend! D16 Points Both Days - Fun filled weekend, Don’t miss this one chance all season!

Echo Valley proves weather forecast wrong - again Brookston, Minnesota - June 4 By Samantha Laderer

A

s all midwestern people know, the weather man is wrong 75% of the time. This was especially true for the first Echo Valley race of the 2017 season. The weather man called for a rainy day with storms, but instead it was bright blue skies with only a few fluffy clouds in sight. Although numbers for each class weren’t at all time highs, that didn’t mean there wasn’t a lot of good battles. Race five of the day filled the valley with the beautiful sound of two-strokes in the 125 class first moto. Dillion Nelson, who was racing at Echo Valley for the first time, pulled the holeshot and stayed out front. Matthew Thompson, Kole Snyder and Dominic Lindquist followed behind, Ricky Walker and his son, Bentlee enjoying some quality time at the track

battling for second. Thompson was able to put a little gap in between him and Snyder on the third lap. Lane Kachinske had bike issues off the start but was able to catch up to Andrew Wedge and the two then battled for the fifth position the last two laps. Mikaila Clough and Linzy LaValley, the two ladies in the class had a small battle the first lap before Clough was able to make a good pass that stuck. Moto two things get a little shaken up. Nelson again pulled the holeshot and led all the way. Behind him things got interesting. Lindquist found some extra speed and hung in the second position, battling with Snyder. It was close the first couple of laps, but then Lindquist pulled some better lines and got away. Thompson was able to salvage the fourth position overall. As for Wedge, he had a good consis-

tent race behind Thompson. Wedge recently moved up to a 125 and is getting more comfortable with the bike every race. “I always love the trip up to Echo Valley, it is one of my favorite tracks,” says Lindquist. The biggest show was in the Open A, B and C class drop. Veteran rider Kyle Love decided he wanted to go play with the young guns. In one drop the three Ariders, seven B-riders and one C-rider shot off the gate in a heated battle for the holeshot. Josh Virnig was able to pull the holeshot and lead the first lap with Spencer Kadlec and Love hot on his back tire. Kadlec and Love were both able to get around Virnig by midrace. In B, Lucas Giardino, Tim Rasmusson, Carter Reece and Josh Schaefer were bar to bar for the first lap and a half. Rasmusson who recently got back into to racing told me he felt like he was making a good comeback after being off the bike for several years. Little did top four guys know though that Gavin Love, Kyle’s son, had plans to catch his dad and that meant for him to make some passes. During a battle for the second position between Reece and Rasmusson, Gavin Love came in hot and made a block pass on Rasmusson in a corner resulting in Rasmusson going down. He was able to get right back up and find his pace. Giardino pulled away and led the B-class. Reece battled with Gavin Love till midrace when Love made a pass and took over the second position. The two had the fastest pace out on the track. Come second moto, Kadlec was able to steal the holeshot ahead of Kyle Love. Virnig found a good pace and showed a tire a time or two to both Love and Kadlec as they finished out front in that order. For the B class, Giardino wasn’t able to make his second moto. Reece was able to get in the lead CYCLE USA, July 2017

after Gavin Love made a mistake in the second corner which resulted in a small pile up. Rasmusson was able to quickly get around everyone to fill the second position. Schaefer got around the pileup as well. He caught Rasmusson midrace which led to a good contest for second. The two were having fun while they went back and forth. Gavin Love was unable to finish the race, opening the door for Christopher Janzig to take the fourth position. We all wish for is a good Sunday at the track surrounded by friends and family, with some good battles in each class and of course a sunny blue sky with fluffy

Sunset Ridge ATV Nationals Walnut, Illinois - June 17 By Josh Rud, Shift One Photography

T

he middle of June brought round 7 of the ATV MX National Championships to Sunset Ridge for two days of amateur and pro ATV racing. The event is unique, bringing the pros and amateurs in on the same weekend of racing. Saturday also has the pro riders running two motos which will bring everyone out to the fences. This makes for a good experience for everyone involved, with the fans and vendors all showing up making for a very action packed weekend of racing. The event draws in riders from literally all over the country, including a large amount of riders that make it out from our local dis-

tricts. With the event running so many classes they have it scheduled for two days with the amateurs racing their first moto on Saturday along with the pro races, and then the racing concluded on Sunday with the second motos. There was plenty of the local talent out there giving everyone a run for their money this weekend. Eli Lingle out of Winslow Illinois was tearing up the B classes, winning all four of his motos. Starting off in Production B Lingle got out front with the holeshot and never looked back the rest of the race. This would continue for both days winning the overall in Production B. Lingle also had a good day in Open B taking the win in both motos once again. Ending up 4 for 4 on the weekend is always a good way

to pack up for the drive home. WMX had some great racing both days with Kelsey Dyer out of Quincy Illinois getting into some race long battles going back and forth with Michelle Jenkins (OH). In the first moto on Saturday it was Dyer and Kierstin Keane (MI) pulling a bit out front towards the end of the race with Jenkins hanging back in third. The two up front put on a great race with Dyer hanging on to take the win. In the second moto on Sunday things flipped around with Jenkins taking the win, Keane in second, and Dyer in third. With a third and a first Jenkins walked away with the overall, Dyer landed in second and Keane to round it out taking third overall. Local rider Chad Wienen out of Galena, IL topped the National, winning the Pro class. It was his first Professional win at Sunset Ridge.

The Pro races happened throughout the day with qualifying in the morning during practice and the races taking place Saturday. Running a fifteen minutes plus two lap format the Pro motos would take place a couple hours apart. The first moto was dominated by Joel Hetrick pulling a great start and riding clean. There was a nice battle going on for second with Jeffrey Rastrelli and the local rider Chad Wienen making Galena Illinois home. Pushing hard towards the end Wienen did get up to second setting up a good chance for the overall. With the second moto underway Wienen seemed to be having a rough time getting pinched off on yet another start, but in much better position. The pack fell in line and started knocking out the laps as Wienen pushed up front and got all the way to Hetrick who was in the lead. With one lap to go Wienen made a move right in front of the fans on the fence to take over the lead and push hard on the last lap to keep it. Coming across the line Wienen was able to take the win for his first overall at Sunset Ridge in a pro event. This was a very important win for him and it was certainly nice to win at home with all your family there to watch.

Kaukauna, WI’s Cody Janssen going to 9th in Pro-Am.

Illinois rider Ronnie Higgerson going to seventh in the Pro class.

Up on the podium with him was Hetrick taking second overall and Rastrelli out of Palm City Florida taking third. It was a great weekend of racing with the races going non-stop all day long. The track crew at Sunset Ridge really kept everything going completely smooth all day with nothing but good things being spoken by the riders. Its a very cool event to have come through town and such a great atmosphere around the facilities. It’s not something you will find anywhere else with the professionals riding right along with the amateurs and it makes for a very special day for everyone. GP Racing comes to D16 First event of this style held at Hixton

50cc riders with their coaches before the green flag start.

Hixton, Wisconsin - June 3 District 16 GP Racing

T

he team at CMJ Raceway, commonly known as Hixton, kicked off their 2017 season with a busy weekend in early June. While Sunday had both District 16 motocross and a full Hare Scramble scheduled, our interest was caught by Saturday’s Gran Prix race. This was a first for D16. While other parts of the country have been running them in some form for years, and in Illinois a couple years ago, it is only natural that they catch interest in other areas of the midwest. In District 16, these are counting towards season end Hare Scrambles points. There’s a little twist in the classes from a hare scrambles, but enough overlap that paying points there is easy to do. Bottom line is there’s a good mix of classes for any rider... youth up to the top experts. Most riders can find two classes to ride in as well... making for even more fun during the day. A GP racing’s precise nature will come down to where it is being hosted. Here at Hixton a decent portion of the motocross track was mixed in some of their popular hare scrambles trail. You’ll likely not find any of the events to have 28

the biggest or hardest of motocross obstacles included, nor the tightest of woods sections. These are being designed to suit a wide variety of racers and new riders will love them as well. Two motos, often around 20-30 minutes each. Maybe ten classes, broken up into four or

five actual races so the days are pretty compact. Here at Hixton for the first event, Matt Herrington laid out the course and did an excellent job on it. Then Mother Nature did her best to screw it up the day before the event, dumping a fair amount of rain on an already damp facility. The long course saw the young riders finish only one lap... and it was a challenging one at that. The fastest of riders in the AA (Expert) class turned three laps in their motos. The other story of the day was the heat... like the upper 80’s as summer arrived in a big way all at once. Tough trail/track conditions, heat and early season conditioning caught a few off guard. Race one of the day was for the AA, A and B riders. With no practice laps or real feel for the course the riders started off the motocross gate, winding on and

off the moto track before entering the first woods section. It was obvious right away how wet it really was. Pete Laubmeier had the right idea, leading most of the first lap, staying a little less mud covered. As they finished lap one of what became a three lap race, Checkpoint OffRoad owner and suspension master Matt Stavish was running in second ahead of the charging Mason Amerling and “A” rider Jay Mittelstaedt. The second lap saw Laubmeier slip to third as Amerling was holding pace with Stavish out front. Illinois’ Ryan Moss was moving up, now running in fourth after doing all he could to avoid getting a mud bath in the first corner after a bad jump off the line. Moss took over third in the last lap as Stavish rode a smart race, showing his years of experience in challenging conditions for the win. Motorex/ Larson Cycle of Cambridge, MN backed Stavish had a big smile after the win. It is obvious this guy simply loves riding regardless of the conditions. We asked him about the race and his thoughts on the GP format. Matt, “I’ve been here many times but this is my first GP. They laid out a cool course. I was planning on just taking it kind of easy today and doing a little suspension testing, but it is really hot and with the mud that plan isn’t working out. I started in about fourth and made a couple spots up by passing or having them given to me. Then I just rode steady and trying to keep the goggles through the opening lap. I think the GP format will give a lot of moto guys a great option. They can be intimidated by the two hour racing with big tanks, hand guards and all that stuff. With this they won’t need all that. This is a happy middle point for everyone and basically where our sport started. Like old fashion motocross with semi natural terrain for thirty minutes. You can take a stock bike and come out here and race it. This should take off.” The group’s second moto saw much better conditions as the soil here dries quickly, even more so with the sun and heat. Moss kicked it up a notch showing his skills as he led at the end of the first lap with another long time fast guy John Strangfeld in second. Right there behind them to no surprise was Stavish and Amerling as they all crossed the line in contention for the front spot. Amerling

Ian Beal went 1-4 for second overall in the B class.

and Stavish took care of business in the second lap, moving to the front where they stayed to the end, Amerling getting the best of it with Strangfeld beating Moss across the line for the moto, but falling one spot short in the overall scheme, Moss’s 3-4 motos topped his 53... using the motocross style scoring. Latitude Graphics/ Mike’s Motorsports/ West Bend Harley backed Amerling after winning moto and overall, “I got a lot better start in this race and I led a little bit then Dylan Narel got by me. He fell on the moto track and I got hung up on his bike, letting like four guys get past us. From there I put my head down and just worked to get to the front. Matt was leading and I was able to pass him on the motocross track in a muddy section so that was good as it would have been all different if we got back to the woods. Where the first moto was sort of a slop fest, it is crazy how different it is out there now as it dried up a lot. There’s some good ruts and you can really push through it a lot faster now. This was fun being more of a sprint compared to pacing yourself like we usually do in a full hare scrambles race. The little break between races is good and then going back at it. While this is different to us, I’d think it would be cool for

the motocross guys where they get some woods mixed in and it would be appealing to them as well. It’s a good balance.” Long time front runner Chuck Garetson won both motos in the A class, having to work his way up both times. Heath Drone, another very experienced woods rider finished second overall after two third place finishes. Riders beating him out in the individual motos weren’t able to get consistent results. Tony Montgomery pulled a second in the first moto but then a seventh in moto two. Scott Rohlfing suffered in the mud early then bounced back to full speed in moto two, going 9-2. The C class saw nineteen riders hit the track with the top two riders going at it in both motos. Michael Mickelson had his KTM out front early with Colton Thompson pushing his Husqvarna hard for second by the end of the first lap. Thompson made the pass in the second and final lap for the win. Thompson after winning, “I think the GP direction is awesome. There are so many different types of riders in what their likes and abilities are, this is good for everyone. The tracks will be more open so it is good for riders not as into the woods riding for sure. Today so far it was really muddy so it was more chalCYCLE USA, July 2017

real good job laying it all out. I was able to move through a few riders and get out front so it went good. I’d like to thank my mom and dad for all their support, it’s really great being here to do this.” Mickelson bounced back in the second moto to take the win and overall ahead of Thompson. Hurley, WI’s Brian Saari had a good day going 5-3 for third overall ahead of Carter Kaufmann. Paul Jones rode in the +30B class and topped both motos. Ben Eggum finished second just ahead of Matthew Sather in the first moto. In the second moto conditions were improving and Sather found that to his liking as he grabbed second in the moto and overall. Eggum after the second moto, “I think I did better in the first moto where it was sloppy and it slowed the motocrossers a bit. This one I slid off the trail a few times and didn’t ride as well, but had a lot of fun just the same. This was the first GP race I’ve been to and it was a lot of fun, but I’m honestly looking forward to a longer race tomorrow with more woods. I’ll do this again for sure, I just like the woods racing even more as it fits me better. It was a good time though.”

The fun mix of terrain and good length motos are perfect for a lot of riders. Moto guys can just back off the clickers a little bit and be set for this also. After her first moto in the rough conditions she was all smiles and genuinely excited to have just been out there and fighting her way through it all. Thier course was shortened for the second race to allow the 65cc and 85cc classes running at the same time to ride a more manageable track and get in more laps. After again leading everyone through the moto Czappa was again all smiles and excited. “It was rough, but really, really fun out there. day. A lot fo the hare scrambles riders aren’t use to a morning and afternoon moto where they don’t see the course progress during one long race. The morning can be smooth and slick and getting much more rough before a second moto with other classes riding between their motos. Motocross riders see this often. Everyone we talked to had fun and surely welcomed the second moto conditions. The day was a success and we can only imagine this growing as more riders learn of the GP racing. Longer motos and the mix of terrain, yet you don’t have to make a full conversion to “off-road” to get involved in it. It can be a big step into a 60-90 minute long woods race. This eliminates that and two roughly twenty-five minute motos are just right for anyone really wanting solid ride time. There’s one more GP event still coming in 2017... held by the Rapid Angels Motorcycle Club on Saturday September 9th before their Hare Scrambles... so make sure to give it a try and then look for more of these in 2018! MC MotoPark Pro-Am Cody Williams wins in both 250 & Open Mount Carroll, Illinois - June 18 By Josh Rud, Shift One Photography

M

C MotoPark in Mount Carroll Illinois got underway the eighteenth of June for some great racing action with warm weather for everyone to enjoy. The Loretta’s youth regional will be running the very next weekend so this race also allowed many riders to get a feel for the track. The MC Moto Park facilities continue to be upgraded. The Entertainment stage is almost complete, there’s an awesome deck built off to the side of the start to give a great spectator view. Not to mention the upgraded signage and landscaping for some great finishing touches. There will always be a lot of fun to be had around the park after the Philip Maus in the race is over with the large water- Minnesota’s twenty-four rider Open A class slide and pond to top everything up with Peter Parenti making his move off; it’s always a fun time to spend the around the inside of the horse shoe to weekend here. take over third after fighting back from a There were some great races out there sixth place start. They stayed in position for several laps as Denver Rigsby (from Michigan) came moving up through the pack to get a good look at third and made a pass stick. Coming into a left turn after the start straight Williams tipped the bike over letting Sayles by for the lead. Williams kept it running for second. The first moto ended with Sayles taking the win, Williams in second and Rigsby third. The second moto turned into a very long battle between Williams and Sayles. At the checkers it was Williams taking the win and walking away with the overall. Blake Hansen came back in the second moto for a solid third place finish to take third for the day.

Bryce Hansen gets a huge jump on the Schoolboy class.

You can’t ask for a lot more in a setting for a great motocross track.

Williams after the race, “Things have been going great, it’s been a lot of work. Like this morning in my first motos I wasn’t really awake yet. I raced the Highpoint National on Saturday and drove straight here overnight making it in by 4am. So I was pretty worn out, but I was glad to be out here and get some solid finishes. Now I’ll be pushing on to the next weekend and do what I can to break into the top twenty; which is very tough this year with so many well-funded team bikes up front in the 250 class.” Schoolboy was up and ready to fire away at the track with the weather turning out to be wonderful today. They took off the line with Conner Burger ripping out front followed by Dawson Biermann and Eddie Norred Jr in third. As they came over the table top Biermann jumped out front to take over the lead only to stall the bike and have a tough time getting started again. This allowed Burger back into the lead with Norred moving into second and Bryce

Hansen now joining the group sitting in third. It wasn’t long before Norred was putting the pressure on Burger for the lead and Hansen was also there making himself known. Things were getting pretty tight through the turns with the battle getting so close. Norred finally found a pass and took over the lead only to have Hansen follow behind. Hansen kept it pinned to go right past him as they ran out of laps. After the very intense first moto, they were back out for moto two later that day. Norred ended up taking the win this time and that was enough for the overall. Hansen finished in second overall and Larry Davis moved in with his fourth place in the first moto to a third in the second to take third overall. It was a great day out at MC MotoPark today as everything went smooth as ever. The track shaped up some really great lines and I’m sure the regional will put the track to the test - and it will do quite well. The ever changing elevation really makes for some awesome

track with natural terrain and scenery to match. I look forward to the next time I can get here and see how things are coming along with all the upgrades along with dialing everything in on the track. It will certainly make for a popular motocross destination in the Midwest for years to come. Results: 50cc (4-8): 1.Ryder Demott 2.Meadow Thomas 3.Lincoln Paxton 50Jr (4-6): 1.Carter G. Summer arrives at Mora Mora, Minnesota - June 4 By Angela John, Photos by Keith McKenna

ith flowers in bloom and the temperature rising the signs of summer were evident at Berm Benders Raceway. Although many kids and teachers, like loyal BBR staff member Renee Loberg, were not yet finished with this year’s studies they all had an extra jovial spirit knowing summer’s vacation was closely ahead. The energy was contagious as the racers and families filled the campsite and enjoyed a perfect pre-summer night complete with campfires and socializing. The following day riders enjoyed a perfectly groomed track that held just the right amount of moisture with precise watering and tending. With a cool breeze to temper the heat, Sunday’s weather warmed up and gave the riders a sign of what was in store for the approaching summer. Throughout the day the scorching heat and red hot racing were the topics of discussion. With small tires and big ambitions the 50cc Oil Injected racers took their first moto gate. A great start by Colin Megaw gave him the holeshot with Jameson Olson and Jaxon Arends closely behind. Olson took the lead in the first lap while Louis Oswald passed for third. Late in

the moto Iyvan Fratzke grabbed third. The moto ended with Olson getting the win, Megaw second and Fratzke third. The second moto saw Olson in the lead throughout with Oswald challenging in second and Arends pushing hard to protect third. The day’s overall being Olson for first, Oswald second and Arends in third. A fan favorite that day was the +25A race. Prior to their first moto promoter “King” Kurt Caswell watered and groomed the track, perfectly prepping the dirt for some of the day’s fastest racers. In the gate among several other notoriously fast guys was local legend Bill Medek, who despite being almost twenty years older than most of his competition in this class and racing four classes that day showed the fans what true determination is all about. With just one moto to rest from his last race Medek looked fresh and ready but contender Damon Johnson burst to the first corner maintaining his speed and taking the holeshot. Clay Olson charged past Johnson in the first lap as Patrick Miller and Medek battled for third. The first moto finished Olson, Johnson a close second and Miller in third. In the second moto Olson beat Johnson to the holeshot and controlled the lead for

the entire race. Johnson rode aggressively despite the dust that presented itself as the wind blew. Followed by Miller they fought to stay close to Olson who was in full throttle mode. The track dust in our hair, smiles on our faces and varying degrees of sunburns were the evidence of another successful weekend of family fun and racing at Berm Benders Raceway. With a base tan, more sunblock and the help of an umbrella we will head back to Mora for more summer racing because rain or shine it’s always fun. More Megacross Fun! Mendota, Illinois - June 24 Photos by Nick Smith

A

nticlimactic, would be the term used to describe the weather on this night of racing. After weeks of frustrating weather, mother nature decided to give the Megacross crew somewhat of a break this night. "Pack your pressure washers" was stated on face book, reminding riders that a muddy practice makes for a great track in summer time conditions. This is what they found to be true. Lines changed, making inside lines more dominate in tonight's racing. Which increased the banging and heated up some tempers. Just another night with new "friends'' being made! One of the first races was the 125cc class. Couple weeks earlier Kash Schnowske came over from Cambridge to see how he stacked up with the other kids in the class. He had a good battle with Garrett Ward winning the night. Another Schnowske kid from Cambridge came over this time, cousin Ryder on his

+40 riders off the line.

Husky seeing if can match up like Kash. This night he had more competition from a much improving group. These kids learn fast! Schnowske pulled the holeshot. Gavin Sienkiewicz slid into second with Hunter Billingsley, Luke Jackson and Noah Lee all in the mix. Tight racing ensued. Jackson wasn’t letting this Schnowske kid off easy. Sienkiewicz and Jackson battled to the front with Lee trying to stay close. Last lap Jackson get by Sienkiewicz with about half the track left to try some moves on Schnowske to no avail. The Schnowske kids much like there fathers in the middle 90s came east, dominated and went home with a smile. Fifteen riders in the class tonight, full of beginners to top speedsters. 125cc has been a hit for a long time. Lets talk brothers, the Zollers boys; Preston and Talan. Since they started racing in the 50cc classes the intensity and somewhat shy boys have no mercy on the track. These two have racing instincts that rival a seasoned pro. Preston in the

65Jr class hangs with all the other kids til the gate drops. Then it's all business to keep his competitors in check. Nate Bierbom made some moves of his own to run with Zollers, but Zollers had the corner speed and smoothness to keep all competition at bay. Wesley Johnson and Brody Brewer did a pretty solid battle as well. Kalin Thomas rounded out the top five. So as the night progresses Talon Zollers is up in 85Jr. His competition is a group of riders who mix it up well. Jayson Crawford, known for his off-road expertise along with Connor Pilon and Landon Lee can be seen at as many hare scramble events as moto. Zollers on his shiny Ktm rocketed off the start with Crawford and Pilon on his heals. He like his bother, he kept inching a few bike lengths at a time on the rest of the guys until he secured the win. Crawford pulled a lead on Pilon after lap three to make second his own. Landon Lee and Zach Johnson found their way to top five status.

Kyleigh Mclaughlin didn't get her bike fixed in time for tonight in the Women’s class but never fear, Taylor her brother let her ride the #26 bike this night. Amber Logeland found enough time between lining up riders to sneak out and get a couple laps of practice before her motos. Ashleigh Newmarker also found time to come out after racing the Woodstock event on Friday. Kelly Christman, who basically let her CRF150 sit in the shop for two years, and almost rotted the carb so bad it couldn't be fixed, is back at it. In the Main Erin Pusateri took the holeshot with her Ktm. On the back double tables Mclaughlin kept low and fast, making the pass for the lead. Newmarker had some kind of issue early in the moto which dropped her back to mid pack, in the mean time Logeland passed Christman for a second place finish. Emma Jensen who has been making some good headway on her KX100 took advantage of Pusateri and Newmarker’s miscues for a well earned fourth place. Kyle White and the BWR race team was here as well. A pretty well kept secret was that the return of Max Malatia was happening tonight. Not being on a bike much for two years didn't matter, that big smile and personality everyone missed was back. Ktm was well represented as well with Cody Vanbuskirk and Hunter Sales making the trip down. This 42

set the stage for some great battles. Open A class had Malatia pull the holeshot like old times with White in tow. White dispatched Malatia as he knows that kid can make things way to interesting if he hangs around enough. Vanbuskirk and Sayles who raced all winter Arenacross showed their speed moving up as well. White had checked out, but those KTM's weren't done yet. The battle between the teammates was as intense as always. Notable mentions. Buddy Fortune simply hauls, as the "woods" kid took his 150 thumper and won the Supermini

class, then a Hare Scrambles the next day. Kevin Lee from Lee Excavating took the +40B win. Shawn Christen must not have checked his sprocket bolts as it decided to separate at a very bad time during the moto, thankfully no major crashing was involved. Doug Harms and Jay Jahns step up to the podium plateau tonight. Speaking of returns, Nick Wallace showed up, KX250f which looked like a mini bike as the kid hasn't raced for years and grew up! Needless to say a force to be reckoned with in the B class! Kyle White in practice was the first to triple into the rockers, the next kid to do it, Nick on his 250! Impressive is the word this story teller would use. Great racing can be found in all classes at Megacross this season. The A classes were stacked, B full of almost A riders and C class has had over 50 entries every race which makes for intense and somewhat out of control bar banging! Don't forget to regroup for the fall season starting on August 12th! Ironman series still is keeping alive with events all summer long. B classes Deliver at LTM Casey, Illinois - May 28 By Broc Mikel

L

incoln Trail Motosports welcomed Round 6 of the Fly Showdown Series. This event was held on the Classic Track, the same track ran on since the LTM began. You hear riders talk about tracks they used to race back in the day that are no longer here - the Classic track is your chance to ride on living history. All year the turnouts at LTM have been great no matter which track they were running and this event was more of the same with riders from seven states on the line and ready to race. One dad that was parked by me said “We drive six hours one way to race these tracks and District 17 events because the tracks are always well ran, well kept and safe and fun to ride.” Everyone loves good racing no matter what class it comes from. Today action in the “B” class was the definition of good racing. No… it was Great Racing! When 250B was on the line there wasn’t a lot of fuss going on about it. By half way through the first lap people started to line the fences. Everyone could just feel this wasn’t going to be a normal race. It was one of the best races between four riders I’ve seen. These riders were bar to

bar for the whole moto. Hats off to Spyke’s KTM rider Bryce Cox, Halls Husky rider Jason Gepford, Apache MX Suspension Yamaha rider Bodhi Parsons and Yamaha rider Gage Noblitt for putting in what I say was the best race of the year. At the end of the first lap it was Cox on his KTM out front, Noblitt in second,

Gepford third and Parsons fourth. It’s hard to explain how close these riders were. If this was Nascar they would have been four wide! Gepford made the pass on Noblitt on the second lap and on the third lap Parsons worked his way around Noblitt as well. The four riders in full sprint headed for the checkers and at the end they were still as close as they started with Cox taking the moto win with Gepford second. What a race! When they lined up for the second moto everyone knew it was going to be fun. When the gate dropped this time it was the Husky of Gepford out front with Cox second, Noblitt third and Parsons fourth. Parsons put the heat on Noblitt, making the pass into third on the second lap. One mistake would have taken the riders back but Gepford didn’t crack. He took the moto and overall win. Cox finished second, Parsons third. Even though there was a winner of the group every one of these riders should have received a Hard Charger award if they had one. Just an outstanding job by all of them. In Open B three of the players were back on the line with a new group of riders setting up to challenge them. In the first moto Cox had his KTM flying off CYCLE USA, July 2017

the start to lead the first lap with Gepford and Parsons behind. Gepford was on the gas and putting the pressure on Cox and made the pass for the lead on the second lap to then go on and take the win. In the second moto Gepford put his head down and led every lap to take the moto and overall wins. Behind, Cox was in his shadow and looking good but had some trouble and dropped to fourth. Parsons moved into second where he would stay for the moto and overall results. Cox found himself in fourth behind Yamaha rider Tyler Buckman who was charging. Any time you can battle with someone (no matter how fast you are) it is a great day. In the +45 class there was one of those battles between Honda rider Joe Patton and KTM mounted Dan Hall. In both motos Mark Smith was flat gone to take the moto wins ahead of Yamaha rider Patrick Bruner. The battle of Patton and Hall was for the final podium spot. In both motos these two were grouped up with Michael Kistler just waiting for a mistake from either of them. In the first moto Patton finished third with Hall forth and Kistler fifth. In moto two it was close but the Honda of Patton crossed in third to take third overall. It was a good battle and I’m sure at the next race they will be right back at it. Patton after, “I love racing with those guys. I’m still trying to set up my new Honda and learning every race. Most of all I’m glad to be at the track.” One class that always has great racing is +30B class and being a round of the Kentuckiana series riders came to challenge the District 17 riders. What they found was 2016’s District 17 Champion Bob Mcgee and his new 2017 Honda 450. Mcgee, “I’m still learning about the bike and getting it set up. I had a 250 before so the 450 is a lot to get used to.” All I can say is look out when he gets used to it because in the first moto Mcgee was flat moving, taking the win with Honda rider Steve Sipe second and longtime District 17 and LTM rider Kawasakimounted Aaron Carter third. In the second moto Mcgee again found himself out front on his new ride and was fast and smooth - the golden combination for another win. Sipe on the gas for second with Carter strong in third. The Open C class is always one of the biggest of the day. It is always packed 46

with great racing and for sure lots of action. In the first moto Yamaha rider Dakota Mckay took the win after moving to the front. Yamaha rider Justin Duke finished second with Jordan Bird third. Between motos Bird said “That was a good ride but I know I can do better. I didn’t sleep well last night but I’m focused on doing my best.” In the second moto Mckay again was cranking and took the win. Bird true to his word was on the gas and charging into second where he gave the other riders a wakeup call taking second for the moto and overall. Duke finished third for the in the very tough class. Can you believe that the 50 Open class had thirty riders from four states? The best news is this is a great sign that the sport we love is indeed growing!! I’m sure being the riders are all 5-8 years old that this time of year marks the end of school and the start of summer. So what did they learn last school year? In math this class showed it’s as easy as 1-2-3. Cobra rider Camden Cruea took both moto wins and the overall. KTM rider Dakota Baker took second both motos ahead of Colton Waites. No matter how they finished it was great to see all those Little Dudes and Ladies on the track. Wise triumphant at Huge Spring Creek MX weekend Millville, Minnesota - May 28-29 By Rolfe Otterness

S

am Wise has been training hard for months at the Club MX facility and it showed in his ability to master the A classes at Spring Creek Park’s gigantic Memorial Day Weekend event. In Sunday’s competition Wise bested Joe Perron and the rest of the competition in 14-24A, 250A and Open A. Returning to action on Monday he repeated the sweep and stood atop the heap. The Memorial Day weekend races have been scheduled for many years at the Spring Creek track and this year the action was especially intense, especially on Sunday as there were over 900 entries and the track was in prime condition. It was good to see so many of the classes with full gates and bodes well for a bit of a comeback after some lean years in the sport. Monday the

entries dropped off a bit but were still very respectable with over 500. Sunday’s weather was very nice with seasonable temps in the low 70’s and sunny skies but on Monday some showers dampened the track to the point where a couple of hills were cut out to keep things manageable for the majority of riders. Ben Adamson flew through the first turn at the head of the pack in Sunday’s first 250A race. Not bad for an A class rookie but he felt heat from the pack immediately and Sam Wise was soon to shoot by for the lead. Joe Perron, Brandon Haas and Jake Loberg were all running strong in Brennan Myers (644) leads after the first trip through Adamson the whoops with Joe Perron (708) pressuring. pursuit.

was running well and held off Perron for over half the race before Perron took over second. There was a heated battle over third with Adamson, Haas and Loberg for a lap or two with Haas eventually taking the spot, Loberg spinning out going up a hill and dropping back in the pack and Austin Kienast then inheriting fifth as everyone rolled in past the checkered flag. Adamson holeshotted again in moto two and led briefly before Wise took over out front. Haas, back from his South Carolina gig for a visit, and Perron also got by before the end of the first lap. Haas held pace with Wise as Perron was in the mix as they pulled away from the pack. Nearing the end of the second lap Perron took over second Adamson found Loberg on his tail and they duked it out for fourth for a few laps. Wise held fast to the lead despite pressure from Perron and ended up taking the checkers by a small margin. Haas wasn’t far behind for third while Loberg secured fourth over Adamson followed by Kienast. Brandon Dossett from South Dakota led the 14-24C pack early in moto one.

Trevor Bonnicksen wrapped up fifth overall with a score of 8-6. Mini class competition was boiling all weekend. In the 85cc 9-11 class on Sunday Krystian Janik from Illinois led through the first turn in moto one but local hero Avery Long soon took command of the moto and led to the flag. Janik faced pressure from James Clough, who passed him near the beginning of the last lap. Janik doubled his efforts and retook second place about three quarters of the way through the lap and held on to the end. Wyatt McGrath and Braden Long rounded out the top five. Long was in Austin Nelson (162) and Brandon Dossett (7) battled throughout the weekend in the C classes. charge in moto two and snared the win with Clough pulling through for second over Janik. Braden Long held fourth over McGrath at the flag. Monday’s action was intense too but dampened a bit by the intermittent showers that left the track slickened. One group perhaps more affected by the mud is the 65cc 7-11 class, but they showed they could handle some tough conditions. Wyatt McGrath jumped out to lead early in moto one and pulled out a bit of a gap over Brady Karolevitz and Ethan Rennie. McGrath was handily in control of the moto and took the checkered. Karolevitz and Rennie maintained positions to lead Tanner Schlegel and Jeffrey Rinkel across the line. Moto two saw McGrath and Karolevitz run out front of the pack with Brodie Boumeester redeem himself Sam Wise was on top of his game, dominating twelve A class motos through the weekend. Wet week makes for Great racing at Motosports Park

Brandon Hastings went 3-2 for second overall in +30B/C.

Byron, Illinois - June 4 By Josh Rud, Shift One Photography

T

he Nuke Series round four got underway on June fourth with weather being an issue all week. There was a surprise downpour on Saturday that did a pretty good number on the track since it was prepped for the race the next morning. Race morning was a little muddier than anyone would like, but everyone is certainly on the same track and it got really nice as the day went on and the sun dried things up. There was a great turn-out this weekend despite the weather lurking in the forecast. This kept the action moving throughout the day, keeping things lively for the spectators and racers alike. 250C was up for moto one with the track already looking great by this time of the day. Off the gate Steven Minkus got out to an early lead with Nick Wuertzer and Matthew Speers close behind. Heading around to the third turn Speers got to the inside line hard taking over second. This lasted through the first

lap as the two battled before Wuertzer made the move to get back into second around the finish line turn. By this time Minkus had a good lead going but Wuertzer wasn’t giving up and pushed through to take the lead. Behind them, Deven Fell had taken over third before the group made their way back towards the finish line. Then Fell ran into issues stalling out, allowing Speers to take back third. The second moto ended with the same exact results up front, giving the overall to Wuertzer out of Iowa. Minkus grabbed second and rounding out the podium was Speers. 85Sr was a great race today as a lot of fast riders showed their A game. The gate dropped on the first moto with Zennon Shain taking the holeshot followed closely by Anthony Edgerton and Collin Hillary. This order was undisturbed for several laps, but it was intense with

Edgerton and Shain really hitting the track hard against each other. Coming back from a bad start Cole Dekker made his way up to challenge Hillary for third and after several attempts was able to make it by. Shain and Edgerton had made quite a gap, then Edgerton was finally able to get around the Suzuki of Shain. It came down to the final hill with Shain in contention, sitting side-by-side as the came down to the final turn. Edgerton was able to make the inside ruts work for him and stuck it over the line for the win. Edgerton also won the second moto, again with Shain and Dekker behind.

Ryder Mcgee won the 50cc 4-8 class after going 1-1 at Motosports Park’s Nuke Series event on June 4th.

250B was out next with some heated action as always. Heading into the first corner in moto one Logan Rusk came in hard to take the lead with Edward Lengwin and Anthony Goggin close behind. In lap two Goggin made a hard move for second, laying the bike over into a deep rut and pulling an epic pass on Lengwin. After some incredible riding Goggin was making a good push for the lead. Then Goggin got his peg stuck on rut he wasn’t going fast enough through and fell. This allowed Lengwin back into second and Nicholas Czechowicz moved in right behind him for third. After the dust had settled Rusk was still pushing up front with Lengwin in second and Czechowicz third. The second moto ended with Rusk taking the win and the overall, Czechowicz stepped it up for second on the day and Lengwin in third. It was another great day out at Motosports Park with the Nuke Series well underway. There’s a busy schedule as always out at the track and everything is going smooth as ever. The rain over the weekend made for an interesting day, but the crew at Motosports Park never fails to keep the track the best it can be. With the summer here and so many things going on, make sure to keep an eye on the events here at Motosports Park. horts, sunscreen and water (lots of it). Three words that accurately described the weather for the June Aztalan Pro-Am. Mother Nature did not cut us short of sun for race day, but everyone embraced the 90 degree heat and put in the time for a great day of racing. The crew worked hard all week to prep the track for the competition that would make the trek for the Pro-Am weekend. With a guaranteed $3,000 purse, Stop-N-Go Holeshot awards and more, Aztalan pulled in over 370 entries! One of the first big bike classes on the track for the day was Senior +45. As the gate dropped, the nineteen riders raced to the first corner, where Tim Boblin grabbed the holeshot. As the group made it to the back sand section, Boblin continued his lead with Daniel Lopez, Tom Ferguson and Jim Beckman shortly behind. Before Open A riders waiting on the start. they reached lap two, Boblin fell back to third, allowing Ferguson and Brian McCanna to advance. Beckman and McCanna battled for a lap, but McCanna held his own until the end. In the second moto, Boblin once again stole the holeshot, with Ferguson at his back fender. Boblin, Ferguson and McCanna kept the distance short, until the second lap, when McCanna and Ferguson moved past. McCanna and Ferguson held onto steady position, while Boblin and Andrew Bussen battled shortly behind for the rest of the race. McCanna (2/1) took the overall. As 125Jr left the gate, Conner Burger was on the throttle for the holeshot. As they reached the plateau, Burger continued in first while Michell Malaney, Elijah Tetzlaff and Braden Warner battled shortly behind. Finally, it came time for the first Pro-Am class of the day to hit the track, where the riders would battle for fifteen minutes plus two laps. When the gate dropped in 250A, Tyler Lowe was on the throttle for the holeshot. As the riders started to fly over the plateau, Cody Vanbuskirk had already moved into first followed by Dale Kathan, Justin Wolf, and Lowe. Cody Vanbuskirk also started pushing harder and was able to work his way around Backaus into fifth. Towards midmoto, Skodras boggled, allowing Williams to sneak by for second. After making the move past Skodras, Williams continued his push for first. Das stumbled allowing both Williams and Skodras to pass. From there, Vanbuskirk pushed his way into third and started putting pressure on Skodras. With a few laps left, Vanbuskirk found the right line to make the pass by Skodras for second. In moto two it was Skodras on his Honda for the holeshot. Skodras was on the throttle and kept his first place position for the first few laps. By this time, Zach Coons had already made his way around Backaus for second. Once again, Vanbuskirk wasn’t giving up the thought of a win and started to make his push towards the front. When the chance presented itself, Vanbuskirk made his move around Coons and Skodras for first. At this time, Williams also started pushing his way back towards the front. By the seventh lap, Williams was able to slip past Skodras and Coons and quickly gained time on Vanbuskirk. If you were standing by the back sand triple, which for everybody else was a sand double, you would have witnessed the time he was gaining. Vanbuskirk was able to hold onto first until the checkers, followed by Williams, Coons, Josh Philbrick and Backaus. Vanbuskirk (2/1) walked with the overall, leaving Williams (1/2) to take second and Coons (4/3) to take third. Williams on the day, “Each year I look forward to the big races around the Wisconsin area and Aztalan never disappoints. This year, the track was dug deep and watered great. The track got rough and rutted just the way we like it. The day started a little rough for me with some bike problems, but after we got

them solved I was able to get some moto wins and had great racing the rest of the day. When all the fast guys are at the races you have to make sure your starts are on point, limiting the mistakes are key and it makes the racing that much more intense. I would like to thank the great group of people that put on the event for all the racers.” Aztalan Cycle Club would like to thank all the competitors and spectators who showed up for a great day of racing! We would also like to thank our awesome sponsors who made this Pro-Am possible: Rob’s Performance Motorsports, Sportland2, Best Tile Werks, Midwest Electric, StopN-Go, Aztalan Inn and Triton Trailers. Hope to see you all here at the next few events!

D23 Huntersville Enduro Ferderer wins on a YZ125 Huntersville, Minnesota - June 3/4 By Paul Otto

T

he River Valley Enduro Riders hosted round two of the District 23 Enduro series. Putting in numerous hours of volunteer hours the club clears and maintains miles of trails in the picturesque Huntersville State Park for our pure enjoyment of riding. Not only do they maintain the trails they also maintain a great relationship with the DNR to ensure we have a future with the Park. It was great seeing this relationship

as the DNR and local Sheriffs department were on hand ensuring our riders were safe crossing the local roadways. Thanks to them for their help and support. After a successful National Enduro in 2016 RVER took this year to stick with its roots and cater to its own D23 riders and they didn’t disappoint. With mother nature taking care of watering the track, conditions were perfect for the sandy soil Huntersville has to offer. Except its not all roses and daisy’s as along with sand comes whoops. Lots of whoops. Whoops that put the suspension and body to the test. Say what you will, but hearing the sound of a two stroke in the middle of the Huntersville State Park is a beautiful thing. Most notably was Nate Ferderer whom had so much fun at the Cambridge Sprint Enduro on a YZ125 brought it out for a repeat. And repeat he did by dropping

a total of 9:55 on the day for the win. For the pure selfishness of the spectators we hope Nate continues to ride the 125 as it’s fun to watch and hear. There was a good and close battle between Logan Kittock and Austin Pogreba for 2nd and 3rd in AA. Pogreba had some misfortune in section four that cost him and a lot of riders too much time to make up as some banners got knocked down leading riders on a unexpected detour. In Vet A Jonathan Banks showed no mercy as he was eight plus minutes quicker on the day than second place finisher Jace Porter followed by Will Holasek for third. Banks also was seventh overall in A. Jonathan, along side his brother Dan are the Enduro Reps. So make sure to introduce yourselves to them. These are the guys that bring forth any issues to the district. That’s what there here for. Senior A rider Jeff Young has come out of hibernation. After years of racing mountain bikes Young has made his return to the motorized form of racing and hasn’t missed a beat. Young, not so young riding Senior A class, scored the win on the day and also took second overall A. Mark Holasek and Jason Goth placing a respectable second and third are hoping Young returns to mountain biking. Fourth place AA class finisher Tyler Pogreba

One more notable ride in the A class was Peter Nickel as he took the top spot in Open A and the Overall A class win. After struggling with the power of the 450 at Cambridge, Nickel went back to his trusty old YZF250 which proved to be a good move. Cody Nash pulled out the win in the 250B class, Overall B and finished 14th overall A riders. What a great ride for Nash. I see a bump to A class in somebody’s near future. Joseph Goth, Brady Kittock and Cole Nash took the B line by storm from the 200B class. Not letting the big bore bikes take all the glory, these young guns proved to be a threat for the Overall. Each rider had their moments, taking the lowest score, but it may look like the detour cost some much valuable time in section four. Goth riding in his first big bike Enduro was a double winner on the day as he beat Senior A rider Jason Goth aka DAD by exactly 1 minute 23 seconds. I’m sure as humbling as it is Dad is one proud papa. I’m sure this article will be framed and put on the family wall as a reminder. In the overall C class it was again the smaller cc bike of Jacob Strang taking the win +50A rider Robert Swift rode to third place. from the 200C class. Brandon matched times having the final check as Mccarthy took second overall and first in the tie breaker. A 15:01 by Banks beat 250C. While Mike Strang reminded out Loberg’s 15:02. Cipala was able to nip just enough time off his first round to take over the lead and get the class win while Mueller saw the trophy slip away. It was impressive watching Mueller unleash the power of his 1100cc climber at full throttle up the hill, trying to get that win back though.

Colton Landwer won the 250cc class.

Woodbury, MN’s Brad Cain led everyone through the first round of the Super Sr class with his 9.307 climb, two tenths faster than Jeff Jack as Dan Murlyn, Martin Peterson and Chuck Lundborg filled the top five. In their second round, everyone in the class put up a faster time... pretty impressive on a hill that looked to be getting slower. Cain needed to improve considerably as Jack put up a 9.196 run. Cain after the run, “The day is going really well. The bike is running great and I’m feeling good about this last time. I’m not sure if it was enough, but it felt better. I’ve been hill climbing for forty plus years, so I’ve been at this for a while. There’s so many good people here at these races, the family atmosphere keeps you coming back. There’s always good competition and you are always around friends - you can’t ask for better times than that.” Cain’s 8.961 was better, and did take the win. Racer, or spectator - everyone went home happy after this day of racing. It was another great event by the long time club at the very cool Dyracuse Off-Road Park in the Town of Rome.

Record Crowd at Dairyland Classic sees Mischler Repeat Plymouth, Wisconsin - June 3 By Bert Sumner

secutive race at the Sheboygan County Fair Park. Last year’s Dairyland Classic plus a race during the County Fair to continue his ascent into the professional racing stratosphere. Mischler currently sat 14th in American Flat Track-Singles National points despite missing three rounds. Sixty-eight riders from eight states signed up to compete. The new Junior/ Expert Open division called back to the

glory days of pro racing, when twins and singles ran against each other. Three AFT Experts took advantage of the new format: AMA National #12 Jay Maloney (“my Kawasaki twin runs really good on short tracks”), AMA National #27 Rob Pearson (“I blew up my 450 in practice, so I unloaded my Kawi ‘miler’”), and former winner JR Schnabel (“I rode one of these (Suzuki TL1000) when I was on the factory Suzuki squad in 2007; I can’t believe no one runs them anymore”). Three-time Daytona 200 winner Danny Eslick also competed, but struggled with his set-up: “I brought a knife to a gun fight, but I will be back with something better next year!” Maloney led the first seven laps of the first Junior/ Expert Open heat race on his twin before ceding the point to Chad Cose’s Honda single on the last lap. Local rider Nick Smith gave the fans reason to cheer as the punched his ticket to the final by finishing third. Mischler, Jesse Janisch, and Pearson ran 1-2-3 to take the transfer spots from heat race #2. Springfield TT winner Hayden Gillim led every lap of the third heat race over Mike Inderbitzin and Steve Sandoval. Sandoval tweaked his ankle in a first-lap crash that brought out the red flag, but he snatched the final transfer spot from Trey Johnson with a nice high-low move in the final corner. Damon Coca led Parker Lange and Jake Fell into the final from the lone Junior/Expert semi. Fell stole the final transfer from Trey Johnson, who again was a half a wheel short. The 15th running of the Jim Sumner Memorial Dash for Cash pitted three twins against three singles. JR Schnabel (Suz twin) sat on the front spot, with Pearson (Kaw twin), Janisch (Yam single), Maloney (Kaw twin), Gillim (Suz single) and Cose (Hon single) lined up behind. Cose jumped the start and wisely circulated at the rear, while Schnabel, Pearson, and Janisch lad after the first lap. Gillim dispatched Janisch and Pearson on lap 2, and passed Schnabel on lap CYCLE USA, July 2017

3 for the lead, and sped away to a jubilant victory. Gillim was so excited after winning that he forgot about the post-race interview! “I have never done that well here, even though I come every year. My setup is working great tonight and to win the Dash was just unbelievable!” Gillim nailed the start and led the Junior/ Expert Open Final into turn one ahead of Inderbitzin, Janisch, Mischler, Cose, Sandoval, and Maloney. Maloney knew he was in trouble right away: “my twin just didn’t work as well in the final as it did in the heat race. I ran okay for a few laps, but then just went backwards”. Inderbitzin slipped way back on lap two, and Mischler was past Janisch on lap three for the runner-up spot. Mischler closed the gap to Gillim, using a higher line than anyone else through 1-2 to make up ground. Mischler used that higher line to take the lead on lap seven, to a thunderous roar from the partisan crowd. From there, he set sail and ran consistent laps to take his second Dairyland Classic victory. Cose suffered a horrible start, but he was methodically working his way through traffic and had caught Janisch by lap ten, moving past on lap twelve for the number three position. The Board Trackers were an instant hit with the spectators, as well other racers

The 1920s-era Board Trackers were a crowd-pleasing addition to the program, with seven competitors racing on antique Harley-Davidson “Class A” machines built from 1915 to 1926. The lap times – with no brakes, no suspension, no transmission, and skinny 3” wide tires - were less than one second per lap compared to the modern Amateur division! Bob Timmons (1925 Two-Cam Twin) led Kurt Mertens (1926 Two-Cam Twin), Kory Postotnik (1924 JD Twin) and Bill Rodencal (1915 61 cubic inch twin) home in the first heat. Michael Lange (1921 Banjo Two-Cam) led Casey Ketterhagen (1925 factory FHAC Twin Cam) and

Brittney Olsen (1923 61 cubic inch twin) into the final from the second heat. The field took Scott Mack’s green flag on the rolling start with Lange taking an early lead but giving way to Timmons before the lap was over. Timmons stretched out his lead with each lap, taking a well-deserved win over Lange and Ketterhagen. “It is such a thrill to race these bikes here tonight”, commented Timmons from victory lane. Lange was content with second; “I tried to keep up with bob, but he just rode so perfectly”. Ketterhagen admitted that his ex-factory FHAC is one “of only one or two that exist in the country, maybe the world.”

Ezra Brusky won the first Amateur heat race, with early leader Dylan Anaghoustopolous and Emmett Sund also transferring directly to the final. Brady Lange, early leader Jesse Leu, and Ethan Rosine punched their tickets from the second heat. Jake Walter, Todd Lefeber, and Cody Funk earned spots in the final from the last heat. Fathers Day at Fox Valley

65 Beginner Start.

Wedron, Illinois - June 18 Photos by Nick Smith

T

he Fathers day event has become a staple in the Fox Valley series. This year weather played a part in turn out and it was evident that "dads" got to choose. Most importantly, many dads this day came away with a smile for their kids accomplishments. Before we dive into the racing... rain came Wed, Thurs, Friday and Saturday. The first two storms were pretty intense but the last two weren’t so bad and the park ended up drying out well. The ongoing conversation about race order comes up on days like this. Muddy in the morning little slick and the first ones out are the kids. They get to learn conditions real quick this way! 65cc Beginner was the first to rocket off the line, Trey Lee on his trusty 70cc Honda was in the pack with Ashten Tritsch and Jackson Piecha. Jake Hasten didn't waste any time taking over the lead. As the laps ticked away, Hasten dropped to third letting Ethan Fox and Alexzander Mccann advance for a few laps. Hasten rebounded well and climbed back to the lead and won with Fox and 72

Mccann filling out the podium. As the 65cc beginners are running so are the Women, 85cc, and 65cc big course riders. 9am the line is set and they start heading off into the timber with wet conditions. The two hitters where here today - Allie Roland and Autumn Torres. Both girls have rode the park extensively since they were much younger and have developed a friendly rivalry. The up and coming Krysten Merchantz by all accounts is a moto girl, has taken to the woods well and specially in adverse conditions. Roland has been racing all over the country chasing big series races which showed how much it's helped her improve as well. Torres on this day had her share of issues which dropped her to seventh early in the race. Merchantz kept it steady and smooth to slide into second at the middle of the hour long race. Torres, over coming early miscues at the end to step on the third place spot on the podium as Roland got another lap in and pretty much sailed to the win. Next up was +50 and all the C classes. Today's course was clockwise, so it's actually backwards from the way Fox Valley runs the HS courses. If it had been drier riders would have had at least 8-10

up and down hills to handle, as it was with the rain the night before it was set up as a "wet flat course". Notes: It was Jay Hall’s (Halls Cycles) first race back after having some new parts installed, Kenny Otterbach back from last year’s win in the FVOR Series, having not sat on a bike since October. Rick Mahrt, Tim Farrell, Kevin Finefield and even the old guy Wally Mika was back to burn some laps in! Greg Gourley who hasn't been around the HS scene for awhile was on hand as well. So Otterbach as he always does puts his head down and starts slamming corners. Gourley rides much the same way and was in tow, the two setting a blistering pace. But this course wasn't having any of that. Tight corners which sent a good portion of the C classes down the wrong hill and in front of the 50A class right on the first lap. With the added clutter on the trail, Otterbach blew a corner letting Gourley take the lead. The +50 guys looked like a pack of dogs hunting at warp speed. Slicing and passing through all the riders who shouldn't be there when these old guys are all spry and flying early in the race! Gourley took a hard tumble about two laps in, so much that others stopped to make sure he was ok. Finefield wasn't messing around this day. Mr Smooth took over the lead, leaving Farrell and Hall who are great friends to do battle. Farrell is the "young" pup in the class so he had to do a little proving on this day. Hall and Farrell battled til about the hour mark before Hall got stuck behind a lapper letting Farrell by. Finefield all this time has quietly pulled about a lead for the win. Otterbach and Gourley rounded out the top five. All this and the AA, A and B classes are now set to go for the afternoon race. AA and A are the "fast kids" class, well ex-

cept for the 40 year young Ryan Moss who is still competing with the pups, many of which he has worked with in the past. Today's race served a little notice of things to come. Blake Ryan pulled the holeshot with Moss and Matt Mcdonald in tow. What they didn't see was A class rider Tanner Whipple, going into the first turn dead last and over 30 seconds down (difference in gate drops) has been riding pretty well. Coming off a broken arm the first week of May, he was counted out a bit. Whipple was turning laps that are 1012 seconds or so faster then the leaders. Everyone watching finally realized the kid in the green glow gear is catching the pack. About at the half way mark Whipple caught the leaders and dispatches them like he has done it before. Anyone who knows this kid, knows he is a quiet, relentless stalker. When he is "on" he is hard to beat, this was true when he was on 50's and it's true today. Whipple pulled a minute lead at the end, but this didn't dampen the race for the AA win behind him. Ryan and Mcdonald were still sorting out who was going for the gold. Ryan has some experience on Matt, they also are friends too. Mcdonald passed Ryan and kept him behind him for a bit back til a mistake let Blake back by. They raced close enough to use the worn out phrase "you could throw a blanket over them"! The whole 1 hour 45 minute they didn't separate by more than a few seconds! At the end Ryan held on for the AA win and second overall. Excellent racing this day at Fox Valley,

Pine Ridge Pro-Am Athelstane, Wisconsin - May 28 By Cody Wills

T

he spring has arrived and that meant it was time for Pine Ridge Pro AM. With one race in the books already this year everything was set to run like perfection in the great north woods. A little threat of rain didn’t keep the riders from showing up and shredding the dark sand of Pine Ridge. At the same time the Pro-AM classes saw many riders show up to put on a show for the everyone and that they did. Getting right into the action, Open A class saw local Pro Nathen Laporte get out front early and start to check out. With the longer Pro-Am motos this was either going to be a check out and see ya or give someone a chance to use their endurance to try and catch up. New to the track, Nolan Hepper got out to a good start as well. As the moto started to move Lena, WI’s Darin Dionne went 2-2 for second overall in the +40A class behind Tom Kalies.

along a guy without the benefit of a good start was Blake Hansen, picking off riders one by one. By the half way point he had moved into fourth past Tylor Skodras. Also in the mix was Hunter Sayles, a pro fresh off a runner-up spot in the Arenacross lites class. Hansen made his way by Hepper with eyes set on catching Laporte. As it came down to the final laps Laporte must have had a issue in the back as Hansen caught up and made the pass to then take the win! Laporte held it together for second ahead of Hepper and Sayles. Skodras finished fifth. In moto two Laporte wanted redemption and got it by again nailing the start and checking out. Hansen had trouble about half way through and had to work his way back up to try and help salvage any sort of good overall. Moto one third place rider Hepper pulled out of the moto. Sayles gave Laporte a battle but it

Blake Hansen went 1-4 in Open A for the runner-up spot.

wasn't enough, the moto win belonged to Laporte. Sayles picked up second as Skodras moved up to third and moto one winner Blake Hansen salvaged fourth. Laporte topped the overall as Hansen's 14 got him second. The second Pro-AM class of the day was 250A and familiar faces from Open A's motos were in the mix. Nolan Hepper and Hunter Sayles put on a clinic out front. Blake Hansen came around near the back with a radiator shroud flapping but that didn't stop him from putting his head down and charging forward. Another battle going on was between two Yamaha riders of Jamison Duclos and Kyle Hameister. As Hepper took the first moto win followed by Sayles, David Watzka quietly rode to third and Duclos held on to fourth. Moto two saw Sayles put his game face on to battle Hepper. A new face showed up to battle with Hameister and Duclos, Jake Vaness and those three would duke it out for the third spot as Sayles and Hepper battled for the win. Sayles got the 74

moto two win and overall. Vaness picked up third after a first moto mechanical and Hameister beat out Duclos for fourth in the moto. Another good race came in the +40B/C class. We saw a lot of mix up and a lot of good battles in both motos. Brian Jochman had just picked up a new YZ250F and it must have been a good move as he went 3-1 for the overall and

had some good battles with Lance Dehne and Dave Bickel. Dehne went 1-3 for second overall, Justin Ernst was in the mix in moto two and his 4-2 picked him up third overall. Stephen Combs of Marquette delivered a consistant 5-5 for fourth. After a good first moto battle up front Dave Bickel went 2-8 for fifth after some second moto troubles. Another race is in the books at Pine
