The weather outside may be frightening and a warm fire is so delighting. But do you know what is even warmer in the cold weather? A blanket crocheted with love and care. With the time of giving approaching, what better gift than that of a homemade blanket? Why spend hundreds of dollars on a gift when you could instead bestow something priceless on those you care about. In this guide, you will learn how to crochet a blanket that may open your eyes and heart down a path to making more fun creations .

STEP ONE:

To begin making your blanket, you will first need to make a slip knot to keep your blanket from coming unraveled at the end

STEP TWO:

Once you have your slip knot made you will create chains of stitches for however wide you want your blanket to be. This could mean that you will need to chain anywhere from 90-120 stitches. When making the desired width, it is important that you add an extra four stitches, which will be needed when you do your first double stitch.

STEP THREE:

Once at the desired width, double crochet into the fourth chain from the hook, not including the chain already on the hook To double crochet, loop the yarn over your hook and insert your hook into the fourth chain and then loop the yarn over again before pulling back through the first loop. Then, loop your yarn over again and pull through two loops. To finish, loop once more and pull through the two stitches you have on your hook.

STEP FOUR:

Following your double, skip two stitches and make a single crochet. This is done by inserting your hook into a stick, wrapping the yarn around the hook, pulling through, wrapping once more, and then pulling the hook through the two loops you just created.

STEP FIVE:

Following this most recent single stitch, you will need to make two double stitches into the same stitch you just worked. This means that this single stitch will now also include two double stitches as well.

STEP SIX:

Next, you will repeat the process you just did for the remainder of the section until you reach the last stitch. As this will be the pattern of your blanket, you may be interested in using different hooks to change the size of the holes.

STEP SEVEN:

When you are three stitches from the last stitch, single crochet into it to complete your row.

STEP EIGHT:

Starting from the second row, you will stitch by making chains of threes until you reach the end of the blanket. This will give you room to work and make your first double stitch..

STEP NINE:

After making three stitches, turn around and make one double crochet into the first stitch.

STEP 10:

Following this double, skip over two stitches and make a single stitch.

STEP 11:

In the same stitch you just singled, make two double stitches in a similar manner as before.

STEP 12:

Continue this process again until you are three stitches from the end of this row.

STEP 13:

You will continue to complete the same processes as before until you have created a length of you liking.

STEP 14:

To finish, cut the yarn from the roll and make one last single stitch. But instead of making a loop you will pull the yarn all the way through and tighten the knot. Then pull the remaining yarn from the knot through the loops of the last row or make another knot at the corner and secure by tugging slightly so that it won’t come undone.
