CROSS purposes

THUMBS DOWN to a local car wash. After paying top money for a full car wash the running boards and wheels were still dirty. When I complained they said there are brushes for you to do that. They do not mention before you pay for a full wash that you have to do the hard bits yourself.

THUMBS UP Big thank you to Carmel and Samantha at Orange Regional Conservatorium for their Kodaly Mini Musos lessons. Inspiring to parents and children alike! These two are the best teaching duo to get your littlies into the swing of music.

The waiting game

With Bruce Bennett

What are you waiting for? The weekend; interest rates to go down; maybe your next holiday. We live everyday waiting for something, be it the next little thing or a distant big thing, be it a good thing like a new car or a bad thing like terminal illness to take its course. Life is a waiting game played with hope amidst uncertainty.

But what if you could play that waiting game with certainty? As audacious as it may sound, that is how Christians play it. Don’t misunderstand me, it doesn’t mean that life is always certain and sunny for Christians. That’s ridiculous. But what it does mean is that no matter what life brings (good or bad), the person who entrusts their life to Jesus Christ lives with certainty. The certainty of knowing that absolutely nothing can interrupt Jesus’ commitment to them. His love, his forgiveness and his promise of eternal life.

How can I be so certain? Because in real space and time, Jesus died to defeat sin, he rose to defeat death and lives forever to guarantee an eternal future beyond this di cult and uncertain life. It’s as simple and profound as that.

THUMBS UP to the young woman working at Aldi on Friday, June 23 who treated me so kindly. It helps to restore faith in the younger generation. A whopping big thank you!

A BIG THUMBS UP to Renee and Zac at BNH Blinds for such professional work at my house.

THUMBS DOWN to the Orange City Council. As a ratepayer and business owner for the last 30-odd years, what a waste of ratepayer’s money in Lords Place. Absolute disgrace.

THUMBS UP to the young boy who works at the Snack Shack. He is always polite and e cient, but also patient in training others.

THUMBS UP to Mr Lopes’ “unfinished” comic in a recent Orange City Life magazine, it was very funny and is now on my fridge.

THUMBS UP to the two paramedics who came to help me at Prince Street Medical on Thursday, June 8 and took me to the hospital. Paramedic Alicia and her male assistant (whose name I do not know) made me feel comfortable and that I was in good hands. I appreciated their abilities and also the wonderful sense of humour that they both displayed. Thank you for helping me!

THUMBS DOWN A long overdue thumbs down to the untidy and grubby entrance to the post o ce. Not a good look for Orange residents and visitors.

THUMBS DOWN to Orange City Life for excluding their puzzle page from the most recent edition. Is this a permanent change? [No, but sometimes we need the space. Double puzzles this week! - Ed.]
