Paper #1

The Bitterness of Revenge Revenge grows and festers off of resentment and rage. Revenge is an illness that is very contagious. Revenge can take over a person's life and end in heartbreak and misery. Revenge hurts people as well as their love ones. Revenge will always end in unhappiness unless one learns that revenge is nothing more than a dead end. Revenge does not solve any answers and will not make any person any happier than before. This theme of revenge is shown numerous times in the story Great Expectations written by Charles Dickens. In the novel, many bitter souls seek revenge as the answer to their problems. Characters commit crimes, hurt other because of selfish...show more content... Joe being physically damaged. However Orlick is able to get away with this attack. His quest to fully satisfy his misery comes when he tries to also get back at Pip. The second person Orlick seeks revenge on is Pip. Pip is a very nice young man that tries to become a gentleman. There should be no reason why Orlick should want to seek revenge upon him. However, Orlick sees Pip as a threat from an early age. Orlick blames Pip for loosing his job as Mrs. Havisham's porter and for also ruining his chance with Biddy. Orlick insinuates, "You did that, and that would be enough, without more. How dared you come betwixt me and a young woman I liked?" (Dickens 452). Orlick is had a liking toward Biddy and feels that Pip gave her bad opinions about him. From when Pip started working at the forge for Joe, Orlick always felt Pip is in his way. He blames Pip for all his problems and even tries to get back at Pip by blaming him for attacking Mrs. Joe. Now it ends with Orlick trying to kill Pip. Orlick declares, "You was always in Old Orlick's way since ever you was a child. You goes out of his way, this present night. He'll have no more on you. You're dead" (Dickens 453). Orlick has taken revenge on Pip but fails when Pip is rescued by his friend, Herbert. Later Orlick is caught and taken to jail for stealing from Pip's uncle. Through Orlick, Dickens show that revenge ends in misery and that it festers from bitterness. Since Orlick tried to take revenge on Mrs.

In Corporate America there are organizations that pay their executives bonuses. In addition to, the six figure annual salary that most of them earn. The past few years the country has been going through a recession, many people are unemployed and in need of a job and many companies are still downsizing. Therefore, I do not think it's logical for a company to payout such large bonuses to executives. Companies should be more socially responsible by creating jobs for some of the unemployed and distribute a portion of the money to executives in bonuses. The three issues I have regarding executive bonuses are: What is the bonus structure for executives, why does the board of directors approve such large bonus payouts, and how often are these...show more content...

The Board of Directors is in control of bonuses paid to top executives. "I am sure you will find your blood boiling by how much money in bonuses a select few top executives receive. You will feel outraged that so few people receive so much money that could benefit so many more people." Point of Sales System

I had been putting off changing from my trusty old cash register to a computerized point of sale system, as I was intimidated and daunted by the task. I kept telling myself, changing to a new system would not really benefit my business that much, and in any event, I don't have the time.

A friend of mine, who had gone through the process a year earlier, was kind enough to sit down with me and share how he had handled the changeover process, and some of the tremendous benefits this had provided for his business. Now, two years later, I would like to pass on, how your business could also become more efficient and profitable, by switching to a modern computerized point of sale system.

Companies are increasingly employing Inventory System. A computer start with an inventory counts in memory. Withdrawals are recorded by the computer as they are made, and the inventory balance is constantly revised. When the recorded point is reached, the computer automatically places an order, when this new order is received, the recorded balance is increased. Retail stores have carried this system quite far, each item has a magnetic codes, and as on item is checked out, it passes over an electronic reader, which then adjusts the computers inventory balance, at the same time the price is fed to cash register tape. When the balance drops tothe recorder point, an order is place.

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, "Inventory refers to stocks of anything necessary to do business" (U.S. Small Business Administration, 2010, pp 1–2). The U.S. Small Business Administration publication describes what constitutes successful inventory management (balancing cost versus benefits of inventory), including

1) Maintaining a wide assortment without spreading the rapidly moving items too thin,

2) Increasing inventory turnover without sacrificing service,

3) Keeping stock low without sacrificing performance ,

4) Obtaining lower prices by making volume purchases,

Judith Wright's Poetry In reference to Judith Wright's poetry as being of a unique and distinctive style, in particular Wright is well known for her use of two subjects, that being the 'Australian aspect' where in her work she commonly relates to the old traditional style of Australia's history and the harsh landscape that is well known as an Australian trait. Three examples of this distinctive style of writing is 'Remittance Man', 'South of my Days' and 'Legend'. The other of Wright's favoured topics is the 'Womens view' or the feminist side of life, in which Wright creatively relays the way a women perceives certain aspects of a subject compared to that of a man. there is also the clear presence in all her feminist poems...show more content...

The main ideas of this poem is the constant comparison between the cold, formal aspect of England to the harsh, laid back way of Australia, which is still a commonly perceived way that is seen today. In the first stanza the line 'backtracks in the summer haze' gives the instant idea of the Australian landscape that shows Wright's direct idea of what she distinguishes this as. This is just the first in a numerous amount of lines that account for the typical view of Australia. There is also a strong sense that Australia is the favoured compared to that of England, not just by the Remittance Man but in Particular through the writing Wright's opinion seems clear, which is also justified in her other Australian poems. Though England seems to have no real qualities in this poem there is also subtle criticism to the refined English culture that Australians ironically are renound to be the complete opposite in manner and in the social ettiquette that exists strongly in England. However once the English aspect is left behind The Remittance Man abandons his old life and is released from the formal ties he hated so much. The 'blind–drunk sprees' were in the past and the 'track to escape to nowhere' was everything that Australia could offer him. Yet Wright still cleverly intervenes with his memories of shame that presented the English 'pale stalk of a wench' which was replaced by 'black

The movie is based upon a graphic novel by Frank Miller (of comic book fame). They are both based upon a one of the most famous battles in the Persian Wars (492– 449 BC), The Battle of Thermopylae. The Battle of Thermopylae goes down in history for being one of the most heroic feats of bravery in any war. The Spartan King Leonidas led 300 Spartan warriors in a fight to block the Persian Army from passing into Greece through a two meter wide pass through the mountains of Thermopylae. The Persian army that vastly outnumbered the Spartans was beat back for two days and during those defeats they suffered heavy losses that outweighed the Spartans 20 to 1. All was lost on the third day after a traitor revealed to the Persian King Xexres that...show more content...

/Leadership–In–Movie–300/214587 How tha hell did 300 spartans beat half a million persians...? There were a few thousand greeks present. They used the terrain to bottleneck the Persain force, making the actual number of Persians they had to fight a perfectly manageable number. The Spartans lived and breathed war. They learned to fight when they were children, and trained hard for it when they were adults. In addition, their armor, weapons, everything was far superior to what the Persians used. Their swords and spears made short work of the Persian's wicker shields. Strategy wise, they were also far superior. The movie 300 was fairly accurate, as to where they fought. Only a small number of persians could come at them at a time. they were in a narrow pass and they had an almost impenatrable defenese with there shields, they were very well trained (from age 8 taking as a young boy) with 40lb bronze shields persian army had wicker shields (very weak) and were untrained mostly farmers. Poverty has been redefined in industrial countries, so that anyone at the lower end of the income distribution is poor ex officio, as it was–poor by virtue of having less than the rich. And of course by this logic, the only way of eliminating poverty is by an egalitarian redistribution of wealth–even if the society as a whole were to become poorer as a result. [4]

History of Poverty in the Philippines Individuals are said to be in absolute poverty when they are unable to obtain at least a specified minimum of the food, clothing, and shelter that are considered necessary for continued survival. In the Philippines, two such minimums have been established.

Outline

The poverty line is defined in terms of a least–cost consumption basket of food that provides 2,016 calories and 50 grams of protein per day and of nonfood items consumed by families in the lowest quintile of the population. In 1988 the poverty line for a family of six was estimated to be P2,709 per month. The subsistence level is defined as the income level that allows purchase of the minimum food requirements
