CTC AVIATION IS INCREDIBLY PROUD TO SUPPORT AEROBILITY - A CHARITY OFFERING DISABLED PEOPLE, WITHOUT EXCEPTION, THE OPPORTUNITY TO FLY AN AEROPLANE. SOME DECIDE TO CONTINUE THEIR TRAINING - MANY SECURE THEIR PRIVATE PILOT’S LICENCE, OTHERS LIKE SIMON LI AIM EVEN HIGHER.

WHAT A MILESTONE I always wanted to be an airline pilot from a very young age. Having left school with average grades, I was told that with my dyslexia I could never realise that dream. I didn’t give up. Simon Li, CTC TAKEOFF

IN MY LIFE.

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH

Aerobility provides ‘experience of a lifetime’ trial flying lessons for as many terminally ill and disabled people as possible every year, also subsidised flying days for other disability charities and at-cost instruction and qualification flight training to disabled people. Want to fly? Last year Aerobility gave trial flights to over 350 disabled non-members - people of all ages with every conceivable disabling condition, from spinal injury, amputation and MS, through to learning and sensory disabilities. Come and join them!

In 2007 I still wanted to be a commercial pilot - I found the modular route was best suited for me, as it is very flexible and allowed me to do the training at my own pace. I started my PPL training in 2010 with Aerobility, and what an exciting time it was! Doing my first solo was the best feeling in the world as I was fully in charge of the aircraft for the first time. Determination was the key – I’d come this far and I wasn’t going to stop here! For the final part of the training Aerobility put me in contact with CTC Aviation to complete my Multi-Engine Piston (MEP) rating, Instrument Rating (IR) and Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) through their CTC TAKEOFF professional pilot course. This was another exciting time for me; learning how to fly a multi-engine aircraft with a glass cockpit.

Visit www.aerobility.com email info@aerobility.com or call 0303 303 1230

The training was intensive with lots of new challenges. But, with lots of hard work and coaching from my instructors, I achieved a first-time pass on my IR. Not long after I took my CPL along with the MEP rating - gaining a first-series pass. The day I actually hold my Commercial Pilot’s Licence in my hand will be a day I will never forget for the rest of my life; having achieved a milestone to which I have dedicated 110% and have spent the last four years aspiring to. I have met many friends and mentors along the way who have helped me gain more confidence in myself and my abilities.

the way…

My first solo flight was nerve wracking, yet exhilarating. It was a predominantly new experience for me as I had near to no flight hours, so to be placed on my own after just 14 lessons is a feat. Upon completing my CPL skills test we took 2 days out to complete an 800 mile road trip, spanning from Phoenix northbound. To top off the trip we popped across the border into Utah, to see the famous “Forrest Gump Point”, before heading back home to Phoenix. Without a doubt my favourite part of my training was our night flying. It was a humbling experience for sure after seeing the sheer size of Phoenix - great to view from the backseat!

On the return to Goodyear I was lucky enough to fly the “Bravo Transition”, over the top of Phoenix Sky Harbor’s parallel runways, with airliners landing at the international airport below. I cannot wait to be making that airliner landing myself!
