Leading the Airbrush Art movement of the 1980s championed, among others, by artists such as Malt Watson, Syd Brak, Harumi Yamaguchi, Luigi Patrignani (and more recently by the French artist ArnO), Dale Mike B. has been delighting us with his retrofuturistic works for over 40 years, never ceasing to make us dream. In homage to this exceptional artist, Creators Unite offers a unique retrospective of Dale Michael B.'s glamorous and humorously offbeat paintings, photos, and illustrations. Designed in collaboration with Dale to take you on a journey, this 10th limited-edition of the Xtrem Collection features 90 of Dale’s works (including some from private collections). Biography / Biographie
Born in Switzerland in 1957 to a model and a police officer, Dale Mike B. lived in the United States, in Valencia, a suburb of Los Angeles, where he went to study. He was a student at the California Institute of the Arts and The Fine Arts in France. His exhibitions have taken place in London, Paris, Tokyo, and New York. Currently, Dale Mike B. resides in Geneva with his wife and two sons. Fils d’un mannequin et d’un officier de Police, Dale Mike B. est né en 1957 en Suisse. Il vécut aux Etats-Unis, à Valencia, dans la banlieue de Los Angeles où il partit étudier. Elève du California Institute of the Arts et des Beaux-Arts en France, il exposa à Londres, Paris, Tokyo et New York. Il vit aujourd’hui à Genève avec sa femme et ses deux fils.

Le style Airbrush porte certaines marques de fabrique :
Une imagerie surréaliste : la plupart des artistes utilisant l’Airbrush dans les années 80 représentaient des scènes surréalistes, semblables à des rêves, mixant souvent des éléments de la culture populaire (technologie, fantaisie, paysages surréalistes.). De la brillance, des couleurs néons : cet art typique des années 80 utilisait des couleurs vibrantes de type néons ce qui ajoutait une touche mystique et futuriste aux œuvres en question. Des thématiques fantastiques, fantaisistes matinées de Science-Fiction : l’Airbrush Art trouvait son inspiration dans le Fantastique et la Science-Fiction. Il représentait surtout des créatures fantastiques, des machines, des paysages futuristes etc. Une technique de précision qui fait la part belle au détail : les techniques de précision, qu’utilisaient les artistes peignant à l’Airbrush, permettaient la création d’images détaillées et sophistiquées rivalisant presque avec la photo en haute résolution. L’influence de la Publicité et de la Pop Culture : souvent utilisé par la publicité et dans un but commercial (posters, couvertures d’albums, jaquettes de videos, encarts publicitaires), l’Airbrush Art a fait son chemin dans la pop culture. Son style bien distinct est devenu une part de l’identité visuelle des années 80s. Des artistes comme Malt Watson, Syd Brak et Dale Mike B. ont joué un rôle significatif dans la popularisation de cette forme d’art particulière des années 80.
