members. The coffee machine is probably the most expensive thing I bought and gets used all the time. The coffee is great. We have free beers on Friday so Friday is popular. Tell us more about the specific benefits of coworking. Our costs and facilities haven’t been matched in West London. We offer so much for such a low cost to our members. Our meeting rooms are free for members and we’re open 24 hours. We provide networking and social events, and free training – from VAT returns to how to market your business, and how to network. Most people are at a similar level on the business stage of growth, so everyone supports each other. We have built a great environment for people to share ideas and resources.

NORTH ACTON Alex in the games room Inset: the hub on Victoria Road

Sharing a space Alex Molokwu’s Co Work Hub in North Acton, officially launching this month, is one of London’s largest shared working spaces. In our Q&A, he explains why he chose postcode NW10 to start up his business... Thanks for the tour of the facilities, Alex. So when you decided to start up a coworking hub, how come you chose North Acton? I was searching for the ideal location for a coworking shared office for a year and a half all over London. I came to the conclusion very quickly that I wouldn’t afford office space in West End, Central, the City, East London or the Docklands. I have seen over 200 properties during my search for office space to rent out to people and quickly realised West London is not being

What about you? Do you get to see Ealing outside of work? I have loads of friends that live in Ealing so I do go out a lot. I was raised in Camden but I see Ealing as my second home. West London is awesome. – Carlene Bender www.coworkhub.co @hellocoworkhub coworkhub

catered for. I did more research and discovered West London has a thriving business environment, great transport links and a lively community. North Acton was a no-brainer and a must. I see a beer fridge, a pool table, high-speed internet sockets, a gym, a super-coffee machine – how busy does it get in here? The gym tends to get used before normal working hours and during lunch breaks. The pool table is constantly being used. There are weekly tournaments organised by the

Still here WEST EALING Dean Upfold of Jeff’s Flowers has been trading on this corner of Melbourne Avenue and Uxbridge Road for over 30 years. “Here I am with my dad,” he says, pointing to a photo of himself as a teenager in the 1980s, stood between two older men at the stall. With the building of the new Holiday Inn on that corner complete, his business is no longer in danger. Matching his stall decor to the hotel’s gold colour didn’t hurt, either. Dean doesn’t plan to pass on his business to the next generation, however. “I’d like my children to do something else,” he says.
