ooks like you’re onto something with the Comedy Night – was its success a surprise? > We probably could have sold out twice over so yes it was a pleasant surprise. It was great to see some new faces coming down to the Brentham Club, some for the first time, having fun. I think people are looking locally for a good night out. Why bother getting on a tube or bus when you can see high quality acts on your doorstep? Comedy also pulls in a great demographic of all ages, which was nice to see. We’ve spent some money upgrading the stage lighting in the hall and we wanted it to feel and look as close as it could to a professional comedy club. A lot of hard work went into it from

What else have you got planned for us then? > The next comedy night is on 20 Jan, and we are excited that our headline act Nathan Caton has confirmed. He’s been on Live at the Apollo and Mock The Week. Music is another area we are trying to develop, and with further investment in the hall and
with the help of our resident sound expert, Pitshanger local Tudor Davies, we are looking at bringing some big-name music acts to the club. There’s also lots of lesser known music talent in the local area and we’d like to become a place where up-and-coming musicians and bands can come and gig. You are also a very serious tennis player; is tennis still the number one reason why people join the Brentham Club? > No – although tennis is the biggest section in
terms of numbers and there is a strong association with tennis in the history of the club. We are at heart a multi sports and social club with a wide range of membership options. Snooker, darts, bowls, bridge, cricket, and football are all part of what we offer. Let the shopping season begin PITSHANGER W5 > Once again, Ealing North MP Steve Pound was on hand at Light Up The Lane to lead the countdown to the switching on of the Pitshanger Lane Christmas lights, marking the official start to Christmas shopping season 2016. The street party ran from 4pm to 8pm.

Coworking summit BROADWAY W13 > Providers of coworking hubs in the borough of Ealing were invited by Ealing Council to participate in an Ealing Coworking and Workspace Providers Summit last Friday, held at the West Ealing Workspace currently under refurbishment. Entrepreneurs and representatives from workspace providers Co Work Hub, BoomZone, the Co Club, the Lido Centre, and OPEN Ealing attended, as well as Light Factory Workshops from Willesden, the Goldfinger Factory from Kensington, and a number of connected services, including Contactus magazines, Now Communications, and Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College. The workshop summit tackled questions such as the possibility of forming of a local coworking consortium, and how the new West Ealing Workspace could fit into that.

Holodomor remembrance NEWTON AVE W3 > Members of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church community were joined by their local Ealing Central and Acton MP, Dr Rupa Huq, to mark the 83rd anniversary of the Holodomor man-made famine in Ukraine 1932-33, which killed seven million people. UK parliament does not recognise the Holodomor as an act of genocide.
