hat made you start up Educare Family Support Service? Did you find there was something lacking for families in Ealing? > We are an independent company founded in January 2014, after budget cuts made to funding within the local authority. As an existing London Borough of Ealing employee at the time, this change was going to affect me. I met with managers from LBE and this led to me deciding to take the opportunity and open up my own business.

Celebrating Beer Day PITSHANGER LANE W5 > The International Beer Day inspired all-day “Happy Hour” at The Village Inn on Friday night was the perfect precursor to settling down in front the telly to watch the Olympics Opening Ceremony from midnight. International Beer Day began in the US in 2007, and is traditionally celebrated on the first Friday of August. Below: Patrons enjoy the warm and sunny weather and the (actually not “free”) beer. Lots of Ealing Shopping EALING BROADWAY W5 > Shopping options in the Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre get a boost on the first Saturday of every month when the Crafted W5 fair comes to the centre put on by event organiser Kate Mc Kenzie. The artisan fair operates alongside her Eat Me Drink Me Food Stop W5 food fair every Friday and Saturday in the centre’s open plaza area.

Charlotte’s Ealing designs EALING BROADWAY W5 > Charlotte Berridge is so excited about her next set of designs, I’m surprised that I’m able to find her tending her Crafted W5 stall when she could be at home working on her ideas. Charlotte aims to finish a new design every month, and so far has “well over 20” designs completed. Some of her finest work were on sale at her stand – her Ealing landmarks and Ealing pubs tea towels, ready-to-frame prints including her most recent Pitshanger Lane illustration, and nifty packets of cards featuring six drawings including Ealing Studios, Pitzhanger Manor and the Red Lion Pub. The images are meticulously drawn on the computer and then sent off to the printers. She is also available for commissions. @CBerridgeStudio

LANDMARK OF THE WEEK EALING TOWN HALL > Hanwell-based artist Jessica Rose attended Thursday’s Ealing Council Scrutiny Panel on the future of the town hall, and reported back in local Facebook groups: “[The] committee decided to uphold the decision to lease the town hall to a developer [...] Mastcraft has been selected as the preferred bidder to turn the building into a hotel: the planning application will be submitted in Feb 2017”.

Cricketforfun die-hards
Cricketforfun is on for two more sessions: Tuesday 9 August and Friday 19 August, both for one GUNNERSBURY DRIVE W5 > With apparently most of hour, 1-2pm.
