A room for remembering Cultural charity Nubian GLU and ShowpatrolTV are working together to bring an authentic 1960s ‘Reminiscence Room’ to Shepherd’s Bush, to help with triggering memories for Windrush-era dementia sufferers, and to create a chilled out space for the community to relax. or people with memory loss, or dementia, travelling “back in time” to the good old days – to situations that they once knew well, helps to trigger memories that can bring comfort, or even open up communication avenues between the generations. Creating a physical space where those memories can be explored safely is the thinking behind the Reminiscence Room project, being launched in June 2019 by cultural charity Nubian GLU, headed by Michelle Brooks of ShowPatrolTV. The project coincides with the new Windrush Day celebration marking the economic, social and cultural contribution of Caribbean-born migrants to the UK during the “Windrush era” of the 1950s-60s.

Our current sponsors and supporters:

The room will be decorated like an authentic 1960 living room with colours and artefacts from that era.

Events in the space will include storytelling, poetry, screenings and workshops for the community to enjoy.
