Build a local following

Here are some reasons why it makes sense to create a loyal local support base to launch and grow from:

• for trust and credibility, and to do better business (e.g. same-day delivery, fresher produce, follow-up services for repeat customers)

• to let people know you’re here: “if customers don’t know you exist, how will they buy from you?”

• because Google says 97% of customers search online for a local business

• an average customer will use up to three sources to look up a business

• word of mouth is everyone’s favourite marketing tool, but it takes a long time to work

• businesses’ pet frustration: customers who say “I didn’t even know you were here”

Five tips to help local customers find you

1. Use the word ‘Ealing’ in posts and profiles

2. Add London or West London too if necessary

3. Include 0208 phone number if you have one

4. Strategise with other local businesses
