6TH CLASS “TREE CONSUMPTION” “FOTIS PITTAS” PRIMARY SCHOOL, DASOS ACHNAS CYPRUS

The problem ... Don’t close your nose …. Open your eyes!!

How many of these things could be recycled;

Here are some of them!!  Glass  Plastic  Paper  Batteries  Aluminium http://www.resource.nsw.gov.au/murfy/murfy.htm

The solution ‌

All these materials can be reused with recycle.

Recycling is processing used materials (waste) into new, useful products.

Why recycling;  Save resources and raw materials  Save energy  Protect the environment  Reduce waste  Positive contribution to the purchasing power of citizens

Raw Materials  Paper, glass, and metal are manmade goods. In order to produce these goods, we use raw materials which can be found in our natural environment.  Paper is made from tree trunks.  Glass is made from sand, lime and soda.  Aluminum is made from bauxite ore.  By recycling, we reduce the unnecessary waste of paper, glass and metal which can be harmful to our environment.  Therefore we save some of that raw materials.

Reduce Paper Use  At school, we primarily use paper.  We use books, booklets, brochures, paper to paint, and cardboards.  To raise awareness among our school peers to reduce and recycle paper, we decided to do a survey to find out how much paper we consume every day at school.

 For this reason, we prepared a checklist and asked from each class to record the amount of paper use every day as well as the number of notebook pages they use.  Additionally, we asked from the our school secretary to record how many cardboards and A3 papers used in a week.  After a week, we found for each class how much paper it uses.

Think...  For 1 school year we need 13.35 trees!

 But …a pine tree needs

30 years to grow!

What can we do?  We can use the copy machine wisely no more extra copies.  When we print or do copies, we can use both sides of the paper.  We can use more often the class board and our notebooks.  We can actively participate in recycling programs in our school and local area.

Let's not forget ... recycling is the second best solution.

Reduce Paper Use is the BEST solution !!
