quick menu tip

MUNG BEAN AND RED LENTIL DAHL Cook the mung beans in plenty of water until just tender. Meanwhile heat the oil and add the mustard seeds, stir for a minute then add the onion and soften until it starts to colour. Add the garlic, ginger and turmeric and keep stirring until it all caramelise.

You’ll need: *1 cup mung beans *1 cup red split lentils *1 onion, thinly sliced *2 garlic cloves, crushed *1 inch ginger, peeled and grated *1 or 2 green chillies, whole *olive oil *vegetable bouillon *1 tsp mustard seeds *1 cinnamon stick *1 tsp turmeric *1/2 tsp ground coriander *1/2 can chopped tomatoes *chopped coriander stalks and spinach leaves (optional)

Add the chopped tomatoes (you can also use fresh ones) and 1/2 tsp sugar, cook until the oil seeps out and turns orangy red. Rinse the red lentils and add to the sauce, together with the cinnamon stick, coriander, green chilli, stock and enough water to cover. Cook until the lentils are almost done, then add the drained mung beans and a little of their cooking liquid if needed. Season with salt to taste and stir in some chopped coriander stalks and spinach leaves if you so wish. Serve with basmati rice or on its own like a soup!

ashtanga yoga Ashtanga Yoga is a 2000 year old system. and was created to cleanse and detox the body and mind. It does this by working through “Samskaras” or stiffness and pain that manifests in the physical body created by our mind and emotions. The aim of the practice is to prepare us for meditation. The class incorporates challenging asanas (postures) with Ujjayi breath (victorious or heating). It is a grounding yet energising, flowing and dynamic yoga practice which develops a strong, steady body and mind. Each session is focused but friendly and everyone is welcome! You don’t need to be able to touch your toes but do be prepared to sweat! Ashtanga is challenging but so rewarding and many other dynamic yoga systems are based on Ashtanga principles.
