In fall 2018, the Colorado State Board of Accountancy randomly audited CPA certificate holders for the 2016-2017 CPE year. The audits found the following common deficiencies: • CPE was not completed by the December 31, 2017, deadline. • The four-hour ethics requirement was not completed. • CPE courses do not meet the NASBA/AICPA Standards. If audited, a certificate holder must provide all documentation and information requested regarding CPE compliance within 30 days. Additionally, a certificate holder should not try to change to an inactive status if he/she didn’t complete the CPE. At its next meeting in open session, the Board will cite the statutory CPE violation and the criteria used for discipline. Remember, it’s important to keep the State Board updated on any name, assumed or trade name, address, telephone, or email change within 30 days. If you have questions about your CPE requirement, email or call COCPA CPE Director, Rebecca Campbell, CAE, at rebecca@cocpa.org or 303-741-8618.
