SALES AND USE TAX

SOUP TO NUTS October 19 • Virtual Instructor: Bruce M. Nelson, CPA Sales and use taxes are often a company’s biggest tax problem, particularly in Colorado. In this class we will begin with the basics and build on them until we are tackling some of the most troublesome sales tax issues confronting your business or clients. In this four-hour presentation, Bruce Nelson, M.A., CPA, will provide an introduction and deep dive into sales and use tax. Using concrete examples, Bruce will explain both the theory and practice that are driving today’s current sales/use tax controversies and developments.

TOPICS INCLUDE: • Nexus – where do I have to file? • The most common taxable and non-taxable transactions • Properly sourcing sales for Colorado, home-rule cities, and other states • Discussion of the most common problem areas: – Is it taxable? – the trueobject text – Manufacturing – Contractors and construction – Software as a Service (SaaS) and other intangibles • Review of the latest developments
