Regardless of your personal holiday traditions or affiliations, this is a season of wonder and anticipation. Many of the students have embraced this time to spend time with their family, friends, and those in need. Milton Wright’s marching band puts in hours of practice and hours of after-school rehearsals to get the parades perfect and the Showcase the best it can be. Ms. Twenty, Dr. Frisch, and Mr. Ferenz put in many months to write the drill for the marching show. They start writing the new drill for the next marching season as soon as the previous marching season ends. C. Milton Wright’s band performed at three parades. It’s the holiday season again, and that means it’s time to break out the favorite holiday movies. One of the most well known TV channels for feel-good, holiday movies is the Hallmark Channel. They never fail to play the movies that make you laugh, make you cry, but most importantly, get you ready for the holidays. One of the most iconicYuletide movies of our generation is Elf. This movie, all about Buddy the Elf and how he finds his father after years of being raised in the North Pole, is one you can sit down and watch with anyone from your little cousin to your group of friends. Another great movie to watch this holiday season is the classic, Miracle on 34th Street. When a man who claims to be Santa is admitted to an institution after being identified as insane, lawyer Ed Collins takes on the case to prove the man is really, in fact, Santa Clause. Can it be done? While movies are a big

part of the holiday season, so is the music people play all month long. Everyone knows Fran Lane and her show on 101.9 playing the new songs and the old favorites. The station takes everyone’s request for their different favorite holiday songs. The most well know, and to some, the most overplayed holiday song, is Mariah Carey’s, All I Want for Christmas is You. The beat of the song, combined with Mariah’s voice, makes for a classic holiday jam. One of the oldest and most well known holiday songs has to be Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. This song is picked by many carolers and anyone else looking for a classic song that is known by all. Who can say “no” to a song about the eight reindeer and their newest edition to the team, Rudolph. There are countless remakes of classic movies and songs to keep everyone happy and entertained in the holiday season. Take time to experience and enjoy something classic as well as something new this holiday season.

Shopping Safety by Candace Everette The holidays are just about here and it’s becoming more important to stay safe while shopping. People get caught up in the celebration of the time and forget to take precautions and realize that bad things happen when one is preoccupied. First of all, try shopping in daylight if possible and if you must shop at night make sure to go with a friend or family member. Wear appropriate clothing. You need to be able to get around easily and quickly if necessary. Also, if you know you’re going to be walking or standing for long periods of time try to wear shoes with good support and clothes that are casual and comfortable. When shopping at this time of year, consider not wearing any

valuable jewelry and not carrying a wallet or a purse in a cavalier manner. There’s a chance it could be snatched off of you by someone who is going to take advantage of your otherwise engaged attention. A few other things to think about is the location of your money and credit cards while shopping. Keep your cash in your front pocket and be very careful if you do decide to carry a wallet or purse because you are definitely a target for purse snatcher. Try not to overload yourself with bags . Your best bet would be either to put all bags in one big bag and carry it around securely or to keep bags in your car trunk. You don’t want to overload yourself and make yourself an even bigger target . If you are, like so many others, addicted to online shopping, there a few precautions to be aware of as well. Use familiar web sites that you can trust, Don’t ever give out your Social Security Number. Check your credit cards to make sure the online store charged you the right amount and read everything you need to carefully before purchasing anything. If possible, use a separate credit card for online purchases to make it easier to check the receipts. Credit card fraud can attack anyone, not just younger people. If you just think smart, you can prevent unfortunate things from happening and have a happy holiday.
