Catherine Cahill was appointed President and CEO of the Mann on June 1, 2008 following eight years with the Brooklyn Philharmonic, where she also served as President and CEO. Since then, Ms. Cahill has drawn on her leadership experience with major arts and culture organizations in markets such as New York, Toronto and Chicago to transform the Mann’s business model and reinvent the audience experience at the Mann’s grand campus in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park. Ms. Cahill has developed artistic programs to include new themed festivals, commissioned special projects, created non-traditional artist pairings, launched the new “Movies at the Mann” Series, and celebrated institutional significant anniversaries. Ms. Cahill has successfully refocused the Mann’s educational programs and reignited community engagement activities to include free family-oriented events, such as marathon day-long multi-cultural festivals. Michelle Leonard wears many hats. She is the founder and host of the successful Tasty Talks luncheon series, where celebrities talk about making a difference. Michelle’s Dine and Dish dinner series connects inspirational leaders who share their secrets of success with our community. Every event that Michelle produces has a charitable component because of her strong commitment to giving back in our community. “Dine & Dish allows me to share my passion for connecting exceptional people, while dining on amazing food in a stunning setting,” explains Realtor Michelle Leonard. ARTS & CULTURAL EVENTS Moore College of Art & Design Convenes Philadelphia Cultural Organizations for “Maintenance Art at 50” Citywide Celebration of Artist Mierle Laderman Ukeles est known for her decades-long role as the official, unsalaried artistin-residence at the New York City Department of Sanitation, Mierle Laderman Ukeles returns this November to Philadelphia, where she penned her Manifesto for Maintenance Art 1969! Proposal for an Exhibition “CARE”, for a series of presentations and dialogues throughout the city in celebration of the 50th anniversary of that work. Convened and organized by Moore College of Art & Design, Ukeles will be “embedded” in Philadelphia for five days, from November 4 - 8. She will kick off her stay with a major public lecture at Moore on Monday evening, November 4, followed by a series of smaller workshops, conversations, and panels with partnering cultural organiza-

Duchamp,” in which she “aired” a string along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, starting at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and cut it in front of the College — a collaboration with the Museum’s then-curator Anne d’Harnoncourt. “Ukeles was a groundbreaker, and she is a role model for Moore students, in terms of the social impact that art can have,” said Moore President Cecelia Fitzgibbon. “Her manifesto is deeply rooted in the cultural history of the city of Philadelphia, and bookends the institutions on the Parkway – from the Philadelphia Museum of Art to Moore – as places where great art can take shape.” In the kickoff event, Ukeles will be joined in conversation by Moore’s Academic Dean Patricia C. Phillips – who co-curated the retrospective exhibition of Ukeles’ work at the Queens Museum in 2016 and was lead author of Mierle Laderman Ukeles: Maintenance Art – on Monday, November 4, 2019, 6 - 9 p.m. in Graham Auditorium at Moore College of Art & Design, 1916 Race Street, located on The Parkway, Philadelphia, PA. They include Moore College of Art & Design, The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage, Mural Arts Philadelphia’s Trash Academy initiative, RAIR, The University of the Arts, University of Pennsylvania’s Weitzman School of Design MFA program, Temple Contemporary and Tyler School of Art and Architecture. “Moore is honored to host Mierle Laderman Ukeles’ public lecture, and we are particularly delighted to work with other Philadelphia-based stakeholders in welcoming her back to the city,” said Moore Academic Dean Patti Phillips. “Collaboration and partnering are core to Ukeles’ work – perhaps her most epic project is Touch Sanitation Performance (1979–80), in which she faced, thanked and shook the hand of every member of New York City’s Department of Sanitation (8,500 at the time) over the course of 11 months, including three daily eight-hour shifts—and so this concept guided and inspired the week of events and activities.” Written 50 years ago and in a single sitting, Ukeles’ manifesto laid out the hidden yet essential role of maintenance in Western society—and the radical implications of actively valuing rather than dismissing or hiding it. Her writing predicted a deep concern with reproductive labor found across feminist thought, contemporary art, and the activism that falls under the banner of “care” work. This event celebrates the anniversary of the manifesto while looking back at how the concepts outlined in the manifesto have been present in Ukeles’ artwork as well as finding points of convergence with current artistic, social and environmental movements. Mierle Laderman Ukeles became the official artist-in-residence at the New York City Department of Sanitation in 1977. Since then, she has created art that deals with the endless maintenance and service work that “keeps the city alive,” urban waste flows, recycling, ecology, urban sustainability and our power to transform degraded land and water into healthy, inhabitable public places. Ukeles asks whether we can design modes of survival – for a thriving planet, not an entropic one – that don’t crush our personal and civic freedom and silence the individual’s voice.

Or might it be another type of facility where they are all residents? Get to know these extraordinarily ordinary people as they mix and mingle and share their stories. n September 13, 2019, St. Margaret School was acknowledged for Distinguished Instruction in academic growth by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Through annual assessment of students in grades 3 to 7, the results have affirmed significant growth and progress across all grades. This award was determined by an analysis of the Normal Curve Equivalent scores of two consecutive years on school wide standardized testing. If a class has the same NCE as the previous year, they have shown a full year’s growth. St. Margaret faculty is commended on efforts keeping the students at 100% growth at every grade level tested in every content area. Other awards were received in the diocese for those schools that were successful for 95% or 90%. St. Margaret School performs in the top 23% of the Archdiocese schools receiving the Distinguished Instruction awards reporting 100% growth over two consecutive years school wide. Screening of Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 11/9 at the Peace Center of Delaware County n Friday, November 1, at 7 p.m., the 2018 film, Fahrenheit 11/9, will be screened at the First-Friday Free Large-Screen Film Series held at the Peace Center of Delaware County, 1001 Old Sproul Road, Springfield, PA. Fahrenheit 11/9 is the Oscar winning filmmaker’s latest film declaration of sardonic wit, guerilla theater, and biting documentary, combining laughter and tears, that asks: “Why can’t we just see what’s going on here?.” Here, though, Moore is enraged. He paints a picture of American power, greed and hatred, beginning with the question: “How the f**k did this happen?!?” It wouldn’t be Moore to hold back. Fahrenheit 11/9 doesn’t. The film’s title refers back to Moore’s 2004 film, Fahrenheit 9/11, about the Bush II Administration’s policy of “endless war” in response to the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. Both titles refer back to the Ray Bradbury dystopian novel, Fahrenheit 451. In Fahrenheit 11/9, Moore talks Trump, but then goes well beyond and beneath Trump, to the destruction of the environment, war, health care, gun violence, and the wholesale ripoff of the American people and their democracy. Michael Moore, in Fahrenheit 11/9, is saying Trump is really a symptom of a far deeper illness in American political culture, and the only cure is the old “we-the-people” thing. Fahrenheit 11/9, is Rated R for language and some disturbing images, and runs 120 minutes. The film is written, directed, and narrated by Michael Moore. Widrig, while balancing the class-load of a fall semester college senior, is already a quarter of the way into his task and has no plans on stopping until he reaches his goal. “I thought that would demonstrate my commitment to the cause and perhaps offer enough time so that other individuals could get involved in it,” said Widrig. He reflected upon the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s and his memories of how they had impacted his grandmother. “I think the hardest part about Alzheimer’s is that normally with people, when they pass away, they’re here and they’re gone,” he continued, “but with Alzheimer’s, you have to watch their condition deteriorate over time.” Ethan has a fundraising goal of $2,000 for the campaign and has been encouraging his friends and classmates to participate in the runs to further help raise recognition for a disease that younger generations like Ethan’s are not as familiar. Alzheimer’s awareness is something that Ethan has taken to heart over the years, and he has future goals of putting together an organized 5K event for the cause, as well as community walks for those who may be intimidated by the idea of running a 5K. By using popular social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook, Ethan is trying to spread Alzheimer’s awareness with hopes that his campaign will reach the younger generation. Boo at the Zoo

St. Madeleine Sophie Church in West Mt. Airy is filled with laughter and joy of circus students learning a new skill. By night, when the sun goes down, the spirits come alive and enchant the dark hallways, cavernous classrooms and long-forgotten secret spaces. Around every turn, look for the former church transformed into the region’s newest haunted attraction. Get ready for a night of haunting and enchantment as your party leaves for an adventure you will never forget. On Friday nights enjoy an adults-only evening, including a terrifying haunted trail, incredible performances, a chilling Escape Room and other attractions. Bring the entire family on Saturdays for a spooky PG experience for all ages. Look for classic Halloween characters from years gone by, with gentle scares, a trip on the tight-wire and trick-or-treating on our second floor from 68 p.m. Stick around on Saturdays from 7-10 p.m. to enjoy the haunted trail, escape room and other activities. On Sunday, November 3, Yangming will hold a new wine and cheese event called “Sip It Sunday” presented by Albertson Cooking School. From left – wine enthusiast Robert Peters and cheese expert Ann-Michelle Albertson will artfully pair 6 affordable wines with 6 delectable cheeses and small bites provided by Yangming. The event will begin at 3 p.m. with a warm welcome from Wine Expert Robert Peters from the Pennsylvania Wine and Spirits emporium in Ardmore and well-respected Cheese Aficionado Ann-Michelle Albertson. The sipping and the sampling will continue for two full hours with new varietals imbibed and the unusual cheeses discussed and nibbled. Representing igourmet, an online gourmet company, Ann-Michelle will showcase six delectable cheeses. Robert Peters artfully will pair value-based wines to complement the cheeses, with all the tasty wines presented and explained, readily available at the PA State Stores. This “Sip It Sunday” wine and cheese tasting is a gracious Main Line hospitality event. Join your savvy neighbors for this highly anticipated taste celebration to enjoy a lighthearted and entertaining afternoon. “This year I have asked our award-winning chefs to prepare some special small bites to be offered to all the attendees along with the cheeses and wines,” said Yangming owner Michael Wei. “People don’t always understand how a wine’s character and a cheese’s taste and texture can change depending on the pairing,” said Charlotte Ann Albertson, the doyen of her famous cooking school. “It’s just something you have to try for yourself because everyone’s taste buds are a little different. “Every year the residents of our surrounding neighborhoods – such as Villanova, Ardmore, Narberth, and of course Bryn Mawr – call us to reserve their spots in this wonderful harbinger of holiday entertaining. Day of the Dead Celebration – Celebración de Día de Los Muertos – at LOVE Park Day of the Dead Altar Sculpture to be on Display in Celebration of Indigenous Languages hiladelphia Parks & Recreation, in partnership with Fairmount Park Conservancy, the Consulate of Mexico in Philadelphia and the Mexican Cultural Center, presents the first Celebración de Día de Los Muertos or Day of the Dead Celebration on Friday, November 1, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, November 2, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., in the iconic LOVE Park. All activities are free. Día de Los Muertos is a popular Mexican holiday that honors and celebrates loved ones who have passed away. This celebration is a rich combination of traditions and bright colors, with its origins based on activities and beliefs of indigenous communities of Central and South Mexico. Day of the Dead brings families and friends together in a jovial manner by creating ornate altars, usually made up of at least three levels, with diverse elements on each one of them. “I am excited to host this incredible cultural celebration that honors family and friendship in the iconic LOVE Park,” said Mayor Jim Kenney. “It is important to ensure that Philadelphians from diverse backgrounds are celebrated and made to feel welcome in all of our public spaces. One way we can support that inclusion is by celebrating their cultural heritage alongside them.” Renowned Mexican artist and muralist Cesar Viveros will create the celebration’s elaborate Day of the Dead altar. This structure, which will be available for viewing from Wednesday, October 30 through Sunday, November 10, will serve as a reminder that 2019 has been declared the “International Year of Indigenous Languages” by the United Nations. A giant skull by artist Cesar Viveros and team (Domingo Dominguez, Armando Cruz and Francisco Gorgua) will be installed over the fountain. Viveros has created similar pieces at the Penn Museum. Sugar skulls known as “Calaveritas,” are candy treats elaborated mostly with sugar but decorated with royal icing to adorn altars in the Mexican tradition. The resin skull will be approximately 3'8" tall, 3' wide, and 3' in-depth. The altar structure base will be approximately 8' x 8' on the sides and 7' 6" high. The free Día de Los Muertos celebration at LOVE Park will include music and dance, pageantry, face painting, and, arts & crafts.
