Robert Burridge Larger and Looser Abstracts August 2-6, 2021 Acrylic Level 1 and Up $650, WKSHP-00910

Sue Archer Achieving Textures & Alternative Surfaces July 26-30, 2021 Watercolor/Mix Level 3 and Up $575, WKSHP-00908 Sue’s goal as an instructor is to present you with as much design and color theory information as time allows and encourage you to take advantage of the many “wet into wet” qualities of watercolor. You will be experimenting with textures and incorporating texture into your own work if you desire. Sue will introduce you to several alternative surfaces. Those students who do not want to work on textures, but wish to receive help with color and design, and on their own paintings (on traditional papers), are also welcome in this workshop; and you may work in any genre you wish. Finished paintings are not the objective; the planning and designing of your painting is. Your days will be filled with daily demos, lectures, color or design projects, and on-going critiques. A personal, one on one consultation time will be available. This is a studio workshop. Sue is a studio and plein-aire artist, national workshop instructor, and national juror and judge for watercolor exhibitions. She participated in Art Festivals in Florida from 1985 -2014. She still shows her work in national watercolor exhibitions. Since Sue began exhibiting her work in 1985, she has won over 200 state and national awards; has received a Florida State Individual Artist Fellowship grant for painting; and has a DVD “Commanding Color”. For 25 years Sue had painted large still-lifes showing strong light and with textural interest. Now she is doing abstracted-textural work, close-up or mid-distant landscapes, and some figurative work; studio and plein-aire. Painting the effect of light on her subjects is still a passion of hers.

Think Bigger. Creative large painting with techniques for the Postmodern artist in this cutting edge, large and loose workshop. Using professional artist acrylic paints, Burridge will demonstrate his latest color theories, goals and theme techniques for the purpose of creating powerful show-stoppers. This workshop is a serious approach for those who have a great sense of humor and a positive attitude. Paint and canvas are just a point of departure for you to explore the work of art. Emphasis is on originality, personal vision, intentions and goals. Daily demos and handouts included. This expressive abstract workshop pulls out all the stops and propels you into the stratosphere of what it’s like to be a truly contemporary painter. Robert Burridge, a noted award-winning Industrial Designer who, after twenty-five years in the corporate world, focused his life to painting every day. Burridge attributes his success to his education from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, his stint as an adjunct professor at Cooper Union in New York City, and in 1966, his Fluxus art performances with Yoko Ono, Nam June Paik, Jim McWilliams and Charlotte Moorman. His solo museum exhibitions received positive attention, so he was invited to exhibit his paintings at the Smithsonian Folklife Circus Arts Festival in Washington, DC.

Robin Poteet For the Love of Nature August 9-13, 2021 Watercolor Level 2 and up $525, WKSHP-00912 Take your painting skills to the next level while learning how to “make a difference” by using nature as your subject. Our planet is filled with inspiration — from plants and animals, to rivers and rainforests, and as an artist, you can be a powerful voice for nature, simply by doing what you do…create! Choose any aspect of nature you’d like to explore: landscapes, native plants, threatened animals, migrating birds…the possibilities are endless! Using watercolor or watermedia*, you’ll create a series of paintings that express a connection with your subject. The class will be fun, productive, and filled with creative exercises, techniques, guidance and demos. Learn viable ways to use your art, whatever your level of expertise, to draw attention to our planet’s environmental needs and to “give back” in a meaningful way. Robin will offer ways we, as individual artists, CAN make a difference. *Demos and instruction will be in watercolor, though students that prefer other types of water-media are welcome to bring those. Robin Poteet is passionate about teaching, painting, and nature. Her strong design sense comes from a successful career in graphic design and illustration for major US corporations. When she transitioned to full time painting in 2010, Watercolor Artist Magazine selected her as one of their annual “Ones to Watch”. She has won numerous awards and has been featured in national publications. Robin’s teaching approach is relaxed, yet instructional, and she has the unique gift of pushing students without them fully realizing it. She is a popular instructor for workshops in the US and abroad.

John Lovett Edit, Adjust, Manipulate: Make the Most of Your Subject August 16-20, 2021 Watercolor Level 2 and up $675, WKSHP-00914 In this workshop we will explore the hows and whys of editing and adjusting our subject to amplify its character and create more impact and engagement for the viewer. Re-working the subject and seeking out similar subjects allows you to experiment and stretch the ideas in various directions. Play around, experiment and take risks – don’t feel you have to produce masterpieces. It’s much better to occasionally have things go wrong than to constantly take the same safe approach. The main thing to keep in mind is not to simply describe or copy, but to discover and expand on an aspect of your painting subject that will cause the viewer to see it in a different way. John’s work possesses an emotive power and vitality that is enhanced by his use of light, colour and strong sense of design. His knowledge, enthusiasm and relaxed approach make his workshops very popular. Spaces are limited and this class will sell out quickly! Australian artist, John Lovett was born in Cooma, NSW, in 1953. He studied at the National Art School, Newcastle, and has been painting professionally since 1979. He has held over 40 solo exhibitions and participated in numerous mixed exhibitions. He travels extensively throughout Australia and overseas, and his love of the landscape, people and environment are evident in his work. John conducts workshops in Australia, Europe, The US, Canada, and Asia. His articles and paintings are regularly featured in “International Artist” and “Australian Artist” magazines and his work is represented in private and corporate collections in Australia, United Kingdom, Europe, Asia and USA. Publications include: “John Lovett’s Textures, Techniques and Special Effects for Watercolour” (International Artist) and “Watercolor for the Fun of It – Getting Started” (Northlight Books). DVDs include a Series of 10-minute Watercolour Instruction DVD’s in association with International Artist magazine and “Splashing Paint” – a 2 hour instructional DVD.

Frank Eber Finding Individual Expression

Kristy Kutch Luminous, Lustrous, Colored Pencil

October 4-7, 2021 (4-day, no Friday class) Watercolor Level 3 and up $575, WKSHP-00928

October 11-15, 2021 Colored Pencil Level 2 and up $525, WKSHP-00930

The workshop will continue in the tradition of the 20th Century California Barbizon movement (“intimate works, painted with a limited palette; softly expressive, suggestive rather than detailed”), focus on emotional responses to nature, and encourage the individual artist’s expression while balancing the forces at play in creation of a painting. Topics will include design and composition, color and lighting, positives and negatives, simplification of shape, and atmospheric effects. Frank’s watercolor workshops reach beyond technique, encouraging individual expression and observing the elusive balance of forces that create beauty in painting. All levels are welcome, but students should have an understanding of the watercolor medium and of simple one-point perspective. Frank stresses a solid foundation in the basics, “…so that our focus is on creating timeless art. An emotional link is necessary in our work, as well as the connection to the vibrancy of everything we paint.” This is a 4-day workshop--NO Friday class. Frank grew up in Europe and was mentored by Italian master painter Renato Casaro in the 90s. In the 80s and 90s Frank worked as a professional illustrator for video cover sleeves and as a portrait artist by commission. He lived for three years in the south of France, and has painted on location in many countries around the world. He is also an accomplished Portrait painter. Frank is an award-winning watercolor artist and Signature member of the American Watercolor Society (AWS), the National Watercolor Society (NWS) and the Transparent Watercolor Society of America (TWSA). He is a juried Artist member of the prestigious California Art Club. Frank’s paintings have won numerous awards worldwide, and he has been featured in many prominant publications. Frank conducts workshops and demonstrations nationally and internationally.
