Simplicity and Humility
"Let the little children come to me, for the Kingdom of God belongs to them and to all those who are like them,� says Jesus. Marie Rivier had truly understood
this word, for she said: "Jesus Christ is pleased to be among the humble. He communicates himself willingly to people who are simple and humble".
WORD OF GOD FOR US from our Rule of Life:
Each one is responsible for the climate of the community. This climate is made up of delicate attention, gratuitous service, gentleness of manner and that humility in love which allows us to accept one another in our differences, makes us more concerned with giving than receiving‌ These attitudes which we cultivate in faith fashion in us, little by little, a true community heart.
Reflection One day when Marie Rivier was praying before the statue of Notre Dame du Puy, she begged the Virgin Mary to let her know how she should lead her daughters, and it seemed to her that she heard this inner response: “Lead your daughters in the way of humility.” Impressed by this thought, she never ceased to exhort them to the practice of this virtue. …
She would say to them: “Humility is the key to the Heart of Jesus, and the way to be successful in your vocation. The more humble we are, the more good we do. …
Then, and only then, will you work in a worthwhile way at your growth in holiness, …you will be building on solid rock, on the rock that is Christ Jesus, he alone on whom you must rely and in whom you must put your trust.” (Marie Rivier, Her Spirit and Virtues, p. 95 – 96)
