New Casino Development for the Pueblo of Tesuque The Pueblo of Tesuque Tribal Council announced in December 2017 that it intends to develop a new casino at a site adjacent to the Santa Fe Opera, just off Highway 84/285. In making the announcement, the Pueblo leadership expressed that “The Pueblo of Tesuque envisions [that] our new casino will be timeless, inviting, and unlike any other casino in New Mexico. This development will bring fresh energy to our gaming operations with a unique look and modern amenities, all within close proximity to the Santa Fe community.” Pueblo leadership went on to commend the participation in this development of homegrown New Mexico firms Dekker Perich Sabatini, Bradbury Stamm, Bohanan Houston and Souder Miller & As-
sociates. The development and operation of the new casino will contribute to an increase in local jobs and to the economic expansion of the region as a whole. The first phase will include a casino floor featuring 750 of the newest and most popular slots, along with a variety of table games. Inviting food and beverage venues will offer local favorites on their menus. Future phases will include a hotel and other resort amenities. Groundbreaking is scheduled for this month, with the opening anticipated sometime in the fall of this year. The Pueblo of Tesuque is a federally recognized tribe that follows a traditional form of government. Their rich culture and customs continue to play an important part in their way of life.

One of the oldest and most revered groups in Mexican banda is bringing their classic sound to Inn of the Mountain Gods. One of the first banda artists to amplify and synthesize their sound, La Original Banda El Limon infuses the traditional Mexican musical style with contemporary elements. Their 2009 album, Derecho de Antiguedad, landed on top of the Latin Charts, as did their 2010 follow-up, Soy Tu Maestro: 45 Años Gracias a Ti, as well as 2013’s Fin de Semana and 2016’s Mas Original Que Nunca. Warrant and Winger • Saturday, January 20 Warrant and Winger will be rocking out at Inn of the Mountain Gods on Friday, January 20. Soon after their formation in 1984 in Hollywood, Warrant took the country by storm, producing five glam metal albums that reached international sales of over 10 million. The band first came into the national spotlight with their double-platinum debut album, Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich, and the single “Heaven,” which reached No. 1 on the Rolling Stone charts and No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. The band continued to make heads bang into the early 1990s with another double-platinum album, Cherry Pie, which provided the unforgettable hit and music video of the same name. Winger harnessed the power of two popular metal genres—glam metal and pro-
gressive metal—to inspire a new way of rocking out. Formed in New York City, Winger gained popularity with two platinum albums, Winger and In the Heart of the Young, along with charting singles “Seventeen,” “Headed for a Heartbreak,” and “Miles Away,” which put the band at the top of the charts by the early 1990s. Winger was nominated for an American Music Award for Best New Heavy Metal Band in 1990, proving they know how to step onto the music scene with a bang. Tickets start at just $25 and door open at 7pm.

ROULETTE STRATEGIES ESSENTIAL TO SUCCESSFUL PLAY When it comes to roulette, knowing how to play the game is just the first step. Learning the strategies that will help you maximize your profit potential elevates this game of chance to another level. There is no better time than now to take a closer look at the game and “think outside the wheel” to take advantage of the many wagering options that are available to players. The richest prize you can win is hitting a number “straight up.” That pays 35to-1. The odds against winning the bet are actually 37-to-1, which are the true mathematical odds against you, given the fact there are really 38 numbered slots when you factor in the green “0” and “00.” Therein rests the 5.25 percent house advantage that the casino enjoys on the game. The “0” and “00” impacts all of the payouts in roulette in addition to the numbers. It affects the red/black, odd/even, and high/low bets, among others. The good news is that, with the exception of one illadvised roulette wager, all of the bets pack the same 5.25 percent house advantage. Instead of reaching all the time for the toughest bet to hit on the wheel, namely a straight-up number, our strategies revolve around building up your stack using the other bets. Increasing your stack is the key to staying in the game. Once you have pulled ahead, then it’s time to make some “straight up” bets using your “cushion” in an effort to hit a 35-to-1 payday. One chip-building technique is betting on one of the even-money betting propositions such as red/black, odd/even, or high/low (numbers 1 through 18 or 19 through 36). Win the bet and you’ll double your money. You can take your profits, or choose to make a parlay (betting it all back on the next spin). Win again and you’ll double your money one more time. It’s

You can also take a crack at the columns, a bet that pays 2-to-1. Hit your column bet and you’ll receive twice the amount you wagered in the form of winnings. Another 2-to-1 betting option revolves around the “dozens,” or a bet the number will be 1 through 12, 13 through 24, or 25 through 36. One strategy to use is to make a bet on a column, in addition to a bet on a dozen. You hope to hit one of them, but the big payday is to hit both. After winning a bet on a column or on a dozen, use half of your profits to make another column or dozens bet on the next spin. Betting on more than one number combination on a spin is another strategy to try to build up your chip count. For example, betting two numbers is called a split. Hit and you’ll win 17-to-1. Do the same if you bet three numbers (street) and collect 11-to-1. You can also bet the corner, or four numbers, and try for an 8-to-1 pay out. A bet called the side street (six numbers) pays 5-to-1. Taking advantage of all of the wagering options available to you at roulette can increase your playing time and build up your stack. Once you do that you can venture off into wagers on your lucky numbers and go for the big 35-to-1 return.

In Memoriam 2017 Many a legend of entertainment, business, and media may have left us in 2017, but it’s unlikely they will soon be forgotten. Among those whose influence is likely to be felt for years and even decades to come include beloved television and comedy icons Jerry Lewis, Don Rickles, and Mary Tyler Moore; musicians Chuck Berry, Tom Petty, Glen Campbell, and Fats Domino; actors Roger Moore, Adam West, and Sam Shepard; actresses Della Reese and Erin Moran; and media mogul Hugh Hefner. Don Rickles and Jerry Lewis are two of the world’s most famous comedians, stars of Las Vegas stage as well as big and small screens. Rickles began his career as a nightclub performer in the 1950s, rising soon thereafter to fame as a Vegas headliner, thanks in no small part to assistance from Frank Sinatra, who recognized the genius in Rickles’s unique style of “insult” comedy. Lewis rose to fame as part of one of the most famous comedy duos of all time, playing the zany sidekick to Dean Martin’s Mr. Cool. After forming their nightclub act in 1946, the duo went on to host a television series before becoming international superstars, thanks to a series of films for Paramount. Lewis was also famous for his tireless work for the Muscular Dystrophy Association of the United States, and his Labor Day fundraising telethons were a yearly staple from 1966 to 2010.
Jerry Lewis was famous for his slapstick humor and antics, but he could play “straight” as well, as he proved with a nuanced performance in Martin Scorsese’s underrated 1982 film, The King of Comedy. American actor and comic Don Rickles was a fixture on such programs as The Tonight Show and The Dean Martin Show. His many memorable film performances include his hilarious turn as Staff Sergeant “Crapgame” in Kelly’s Heroes, and as the voice of Mr. Potato Head in the Toy Story movies. An Emmy- and Tony Award-winning actress, Mary Tyler Moore turned the world on with her smile, first on The Dick Van Dyke Show and later, and perhaps most famously, on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Regarded as the man who single-handedly ushered in the sexual revolution of the 1960s, Hugh Hefner rose to fame as creator of the adult entertainment magazine Playboy, building his controversial yet groundbreaking magazine into an international enterprise. One of the most influential performers in rock and roll, Chuck Berry’s distinctive guitar and lyrical style, as featured in songs like “Maybellene” and “Johnny B. Goode,” continues to influence musicians in a variety of genres.
